Sex & Nudity

  • No serious nudity or sexual content other than light dialogue and some kissing.

Violence & Gore

  • Part of the film centers around racial discrimination in the United States. We see a security guard escort a black family from a library. The mother tells the guard to not touch her two sons. There is also a scene with a protest of black people, fighting for equal rights. No blood or confrontation seen.
  • Footage (both vintage newsreel stock footage, and newly filmed material for the movie) does feature the attitudes towards African-Americans that were common at the time of filming, including growling police dogs ready to lunge at peaceful protesters. However the amount of actual violence shown on screen is very minimal.

Profanity

  • 1 use of 'Jesus Christ'
  • There are utterances of swear words in the film, such as 7 uses of "hell", 11 uses of "damn", 1 use of "goddamn", 1 use of "bastards", 1 use of "Jesus", 1 use of "Jesus Christ".

Alcohol, Drugs & Smoking

  • The three main characters get drunk at home in one scene and dance around, though this is more of a playful, comical scene, and does not glorify alcohol.

Frightening & Intense Scenes

  • The film features many "of the period" attitudes, including racism and discrimination towards African-Americans, which may be a bit shocking to younger viewers.

  • Closer to the end of the movie we see John Glenn in the rocket in flames on reentry. They lose contact with him for a few minutes. They regain contact with him.
