Epic feel-bad finale to Season 2 of Rick and Morty reaches beyond the limits of sitcoms
choorydanny5 October 2015
Warning: Spoilers
In the conclusion of Season 2, The Sanchez family is invited to the (mate-melding) wedding of Bird Person and Tammy (Summer's friend who fell in love with Bird Person in Get Schwifty), but Rick seems to be concerned with the inevitability of the confrontation of the institution of marriage as his friend is about to get married. Arriving the wedding, The Sanchez family is surrounded by menacing shadows from the past and an ominous outcome to the ceremony is to come.

However the expectations were high, have I never imagined that such a finale is possible to achieve in a sitcom. This well-crafted episode belies many other live-action TV shows with hilarious running gags, memorable characters, layered and well-written, conclusive dramatic structure, moreover with its spectacular, self- indulging, honest and sincere charm hidden amongst improvised jokes.

Rick and Morty is back on track and the viewers should be prepared to be lost in this charming, heart-felt, not as funny as dramatically heart-breaking season finale of this original, layered, well- developed series we all want to go on watching and loving for years to come. Well played, guys! Well played!

Rick and Morty's red wedding.
TouchTheGarlicProduction4 October 2015
Warning: Spoilers
The only thing missing was the Rains of Castamere. Honestly, by now I should have learnt that weddings in TV shows never go well. Yet still I am surprised. Given the quiet nature of last season's finale, I expected this to be a fairly uneventful episode. Boy was I wrong.

The first half of the episode focuses on the wedding of Birdman and Summer's friend. This half was slow, but ended in a big, shocking sequence. Rick, Morty, and the family then find themselves on the run in the aftermath of the wedding. They are forced to search for a new home, leading to some very funny gags. The planet where everything is on a cob was one of my favourite concepts in the show, and that's saying something.

Then, it ends on a very sad and epic cliffhanger. It really fits with the way they've been developing the characters throughout the season. Overall, season 2 managed to balance a plethora of excellent new concepts and gags with deeper, more fleshed-out character development. Despite having the first weak episode of the series (inter-dimensional cable 2), Season 2 held up to the standard set by the first season and even surpassed it. I can't wait for Season 3.

Warning: Spoilers
Didn't expect this many feels in the finale , not even 1 bi1 , Rick and Morty is by far , the greatest animation beside animes that i have seen , South park isn't even coming close to it.

Rick and Morty manage to include feelings , comedy , drama , in such a matter that u wont even notice what just hit you , i know i didn't , i was expecting a fun , nice ending then in a blink of any eye , turned into the most emotional episode till now , Rick sacrificing himself in order to allow his family to live a normal life , only to find it that nothing will ever be the same as they expected.

One thing is for sure , I CANT WAIT FOR SEASON 3! , best animation by far , 10/10

Season 2: Darker, funnier, yet not as consistent as Season 1.
kedarbayley016 November 2016
Wow. Much like with Season 1, I was extremely apprehensive going into Rick and Morty's second season. It's tough for a show to live up to your expectations, especially after having them raised by such a strong first season.

Season 2 of Rick and Morty proved to be darker, funnier, and overall an improvement on Season 1. If it weren't for the show's only disappointing episode thus far (Interdimensional Cable 2: Tempting Fate), the second season of Rick and Morty had the potential to be perfect.

Despite Season 1 being more consistent overall, Season 2 featured some the greatest episodes we've ever seen on the show. I consider 'A Rickle in Time', 'Auto Erotic Assimilation', 'Total Rickall' and 'The Wedding Squanchers' to not only be some of my favourite episodes on any animated show ever, but also some of my favourite episodes on ANY show ever.

Much like Season 1, Rick and Morty still provides plenty of laughs and gags, yet the characters, much like the show, have matured, giving the show an overall darker feel. Looking back on Season 2, it's clear Harmon and Roiland were intent on developing Rick and furthering his character study. He has has come a long way from being the heartless drunk we perceived him to be during Season 1. If you thought the ending to Rick's Potion #9 was dark, 'Auto Erotic Assmilation' features one of the most heartbreaking sequences I've seen on TV in a long time. Season 2 showed us a whole new side of Rick, from 'A Rickle in Time' to the finale's heartbreaking cliffhanger, 'Rick and Morty' continues to amaze its fans by playing with their emotions in the most unexpected ways.

Powerful, emotional, and an overall brilliant season that cements Rick and Morty's position as one of the greatest shows on TV.

10/10.

Favourite Episode(s): A Rickle In Time, Auto Erotic Assimilation, Total Rickall + The Wedding Squanchers.

S2: Consistently funny and inventive even if this season lacks a thru-line
bob the moo27 August 2018
Having slept on this show for quite some time, I was surprised how good the first season was, and just after finishing that I went ahead of wolfed down season 2. Watching the two so close together, there were some bigger differences between the two seasons, but the common thread was the invention and hilarity of each episode was at the same high level. The use of other characters is extended, so that the family are not just caught up in Rick's world, but actively participate and seem at ease with the other worlds they are exposed to - this is a bit of a jump but the show carries it very well.

Another small change is that this season doesn't feel like it has a thru-line or a build. The season finale suggests otherwise, but mostly the season doesn't have a thread that stands in for the world building of the first season. This is understandable but it is an absence I felt in the season overall, even if no specific episode was lesser for it. The key thing is how funny so much of it is, and how smart a lot of the writing is. Adult Swim have signed on for another 70 episodes apparently, but I'll try to hold off a bit before watching the third season, lest I have the long waits of those who watched from the beginning.

Nice ending

Warning: Spoilers
This episode was one of the best episodes. The bird man who was Rick's friend had a very sad ending. It was an interesting adventure and a good end to season two. When Rick was under the house listening to the family and he decided to hand himself over, it was very impressive.

Rick and Morty S2: The peak of something great.
edicionccq29 December 2019
If you watch the first season than you already know what the plot is, so I'm not going to go on full detail about it. This season may have the same plot of the first season (A scientist and his grandson having sci-fi adventures across the universe) but this season is so awesome that it's almost a crime to hate it.

Why is this season so much better than the first? Good question, everything is related to comedy, story and character development right balance. Let me go through every episode.

2x01 - "A Rickle in Time" is a masterpiece. The sci-fi concept of the episode is great, the jokes are awesome and a really good emotional scene makes you empathize with Rick. 10/10

2x02 - "Mortynight Run" is a good episode. It's full of action and very funny jokes. It's not one of the best in the season; I would say it's the second meh episode of the season for me. 8/10

2x03 - "Auto Erotic Assimilation" is another amazing episode. It's full of character development, really good jokes and one of the saddest scenes of the show. 10/10

2x04 - "Total Rickall" is the funniest episode of the show. It introduces another memorable episodic character and it's full of action and plot twists. 10/10

2x05 - "Get Schwifty" is the worst episode of the season. It's just a meme generator episode. That's it. 6/10

2X06 - "The Ricks must be crazy" is one of the satirical episodes that prove how assholy Rick can be. And the secondary plot is pretty entertaining. 9/10

2x07 - "Big trouble in little Sanchez" is another funny episode that gives many focus to Summer in a very funny and unique way. Meanwhile it shows how sad Rick is inside. 9/10 2x08 - "Interdimensional Cable 2: Tempting Fate" is a funny conceptual episode; it has great jokes and generate good memes. 9/10

2x09 - "Look who's purging now" is the parody episode of the season. It's actually quite funny and gores. 10/10

2x10 - "The wedding squanchers" is the best season finale of the series so far. Full of emotions and twists, it seems like this episode was a game changer. 10/10

So, that's what I like about every episode. This season makes the show looks so more awesome that what actually would be with his next season. But for this season, things were great. This season gets 10 out of 10.

Best episode of Rick and Morty and a great season finale, broh!
adampkalb16 March 2017
Warning: Spoilers
I haven't seen a Rick and Morty episode this amazing since Lawnmower Dogs. Unlike Rick Potion #9, life and consequences actually matter with Rick here. Rick and Morty's Season 1 finale sucked (still tolerable though), but after really bad episodes like Rick Potion #9 and Raising Gazorpazorp, the show finally redeemed itself with an amazing Season 2 finale. Rick and Morty had a much better Season 2 finale than Friendship is Magic and The Amazing World of Gumball because it's both of those with all of the unnecessary cruelty removed. The wedding turns into a big fight and Rick is wanted for a lot of things that caught up with him from before, but the pacing isn't rushed to constantly punish him with worse than he deserved. Rick finally does something unselfish my making the ultimate sacrifice for Morty, Jerry, Summer and Beth against Beth's wishes so they can have a decent life without him. He may not be happy to put himself up for this and Beth will miss him most of all, but it's a happy ending for Morty, Jerry and Summer since Rick won't ruin their lives. Even if the show Rick and Morty doesn't get a 3rd season, this is still the perfect place to end such a short series, because this episode is already over 1 year old and Season 3 hasn't come yet, broh.

Update: It did get a 3rd season, but how can you call Rick and Morty one of the greatest shows on TV when it has few episodes every season and half the time it's not on TV at all between new seasons? I'm getting really tired of this show now because Season 3 is too violent and unfunny and even the better episodes are far less interesting than the first 2 seasons.

More plot and development
anselmdaniel23 March 2023
Warning: Spoilers
This review contains spoilers.

Rick and Morty's tenth episode in the second season is entitled "The Wedding Squanchers." Rick and his family are invited to a wedding between Bird Person and Tammy. The entire family is involved in a misadventure at the wedding.

Like many episodes in Rick and Morty, the episode moves a mile a minute. This episode has the Smith family fighting and fleeing from the Federation. This is a comedic episode that mixes in the serious plot with the funny visuals in the episode. There are fun gags in this episode with the Smith family trying to find a new home. The episode seemingly takes the series into a more serious direction with Rick giving himself up.

I would recommend "The Wedding Squanchers" , which ends the second season of Rick and Morty.

Grade: A

Rick and Morty Season Two

The second season of Rick and Morty is a solid season of television. This is a season that has excellent episodes such as "A Rickle in Time", "Mortynight Run", "Auto Erotic Assimilation", "Total Rickall", "Get Schwifty", "Look Who's Purging Now", and "The Wedding Squanchers". This is a season that has more of an exploration into the science-fiction concepts present in popular culture. This season does this well. The season makes appropriate call backs to popular culture and uses it hilariously.

The season is not afraid to touch serious topics such as relationships. The season is remarkably paced and they are different that makes the entire season feel fresh. This is a new season of the show that feels as fresh as the first season. The season still has the same problem as the first season in that it is incredibly fast paced. The fast pacing is insane in how much a single episode can cover. All the while the audience has to deal with it. This is a minor complaint and the second season is good.

I would recommend Rick and Morty season two.

Grade: B.
