I Want These Ladies on MY Side!
baccaruda114 June 2021
Female power is on full display with this movie, and it seems there is nothing that they can't or won't deal with! The acting is solid from the actresses, which is a good thing because the performances elevated many of the instances when the writing needed help. The plot is more episodic than linear, with a couple instances of uneven results. Still, it was fun to watch powerful women do their thing!

Could make a cute series
MacTad17 July 2021
I must admit that I had no idea what this movie was about prior to watching. I ran across it on Prime Video; saw that it had something to do with Black church ladies, and; that it wasn't too long, so I took a chance. I am SO glad I did! Any Black person with even a passing familiarity with Black churches will recognize the women in this group of six sisters. When one gets in trouble, she's got five saviors who come running. And that is where this movie takes a dark, but highly comedic, turn. Church women are thought of as nice, gentle, retiring types. Well that's not these women-at all. The juxtaposition of church ladies in their hats and the lengths to which they'll go for each other is what makes this film work. I wish the production had more funding. I suspect that some of the script's lack of flow in certain scene transitions had more to do with what was captured on video and needed to result in a more-than-decent movie than what was in those 90+ pages. Of course, it could always be both script and editing.

On the whole, this movie would make a very good series. I'm not the kind of viewer who likes 95% of what passes for comedy. I think most of it is plebeian in the extreme. Nevertheless, if producers hired the right writers, a series based on Sunday Morning would have a good shot at success. I hope someone in L. A. reads this review and gives the idea some thought.

Great Idea, Bad Execution
chrismarcus829 August 2021
The premise was cute enough, a woman named Sunday goes through life with her 5 dysfunctional but churchgoing sisters. Their lives are chaotic but the 6 women always have each other's backs. Sunday, played by Courtney Arlett, is a very interesting character. The movie flowed better when the plot focused on her. The acting by the ladies playing her sisters was very uneven and their storylines were very choppy. As with many low budget productions there were unnecessary scenes and dialogue.

Got that home movie feel.
rankthelion18 June 2021
Before watching this I didn't read the description because like throwing myself into these kind of movies and oh my word. Defiantly feels like a home movie where they got all their sisters and they were told what the scene was and they took off. There was great chemistry and the story was there. Wish the audio was cleaner and the cinematography was easier to follow. But all in all a great low budget indie film about being there and sticking up for your family.

Never Seen a Film Like It
briandilorenzofilm24 June 2021
I can honestly say I've never seen a movie quite like Inda Reid's "Sunday Mornings". Courtney Arlett gives an arresting and captivating performance as Sunday, a Church-going, God-fearing woman, with a big family and a lot of heart. The film moves at a brisk pace (run-time is just about 65 minutes) but packs in a lot of characters and situations. The ones that stuck with me the most were in the opening sequences, seeing a group of women going after an abusing husband in their Sunday best was empowering and powerful. It ends on two radically different tones, for which I applaud the filmmakers for trying something completely different...a musical number, followed by the conclusion of a very dark subplot. I can honestly say I've never seen anything like it! Definitely worth a watch.

A meandering yet soulful journey
moviezagogo3 September 2021
What a riot of a movie! One moment you're laughing out loud and then you're suddenly transported to much darker subject matter. But that's life. And I think that's the point of this movie. While you never know which direction it'll take next, Sunday Mornings eventually snowballs into a comprehensive portrait of Sunday's family. The movie is full of endearing well-acted characters, with a bunch of hilarious secondary roles for the central characters to riff off (Dell and Brutus were a couple of my favourites). Give this a go if you're into micro-budget indie film and feel like a meandering yet soulful journey without all the usual Hollywood fanfare. Oh, and you don't want to mess with these sisters!

Hilarious and thought-provoking
robinhoodinmoscow14 March 2021
We had a total ball watching Sunday Mornings! Loved the family drama, comic situations and deeper layers about family bonds. The three main actresses are excellent and always balancing the pure fun and joyful moments with a more reflective side. Inda Reid is one filmmaker to follow!

A unique indie film!
rew_jk1 July 2021
Being from the UK it was fascinating to see a film from the perspective of african american women in the southern US. It was very much about female empowerment and family ties. All the sisters put in strong performances and the dialogue was very natural and realistic so I think a lot of the scenes were unscripted and improvised which all adds to the authenticity. So yeah, very much enjoyed this film!

Entertaining Indie Film
tenillr-823-9063299 November 2021
This was an entertaining indie film shot in ATL. It touched on a few topics, including abuse, foster care, singleness, sisterhood, and faith with just the right amount of humor to tell the story. Great, relatable lead actress, Courtney Arlett. I enjoyed it.

Fun watch!
AvaCincotti29 April 2021
It's a fun movie that leaves you with some deeper stuff to think about. I loved how the family really feels like family. Sometimes they're so over the top, it's fun to watch. The actors did a great job and the filmmakers were able to put together a really good movie with an indie budget.

Great Indie film
mikadoog6 January 2022
This is good movie about a group of sisters that will go the extra mile to protect one another. Both intense drama and comedy here. The interaction of the sisters is quite funny. It also deals with some extreme sensitive issues.

A beautiful movie with a powerful message!
laproduccion13 February 2022
With a great sense of humor but reaching deep and meaningful issues of society, this film and its characters take us on a journey full of important moments in culture. We can appreciate the beauty of being alive while we find out the problems this entails.

A film to enjoy accompanied by your loved ones, I especially liked the musical moment of the film which I think is very refreshing.

Fun and highly recommended!

More than you expect!
directortim201214 March 2021
This is a film that can be really funny, but it also has real depth to it. It's smart, with a great story and terrific characters. I particularly loved the Sunday character. You just had to cheer for her and her sisters. It's a lean, fast movie - just a little over an hour - with an excellent comedy/drama mix!

Fun Time
artistgp13 October 2021
This was a really fun comedy to stumble across. I liked the lead actress a lot. I'd love to see her in more stuff. It's not a big studio movie by any means but you can tell the indie team has some real talent on their squad. Can't wait to see more from them.

Love this movie!
NUDavis859-121 March 2021
This movie is told in the same vein of many Tyler Perry's movies. The characters are funny, engrossing, and real. They will make you laugh one moment and mad at one of them the next. Some of the scenes will even be heartbreaking. And I love every minute of it. What makes it work is that you can feel the bonds of family throughout. I would even go so far as saying it's like being with family through their high points and low points as they struggle to find happiness in life despite the obstacles (and squabbling). And when it's over, all you can do is wonder when is the next time everyone can come together.
