Enjoyable enough for what it turned out to be, but not a masterpiece...

Initially I must admit that I was lured in to watch this 2016 movie titled "Sailor Suit and Machine Gun" by a number of reasons. First and foremost, the fact that it is a Japanese movie caught my interest right away. Secondly, the movie's cover/poster also was interesting, seemed like it could possibly be one of those dubious Japanese over-the-edge-insane-movies that only the Japanese can make.

I was given the chance to sit down and watch "Sailor Suit and Machine Gun" (aka "Sêrâ-fuku to kikanjû: Sotsugyô") in 2020, without having ever heard of the movie, nor knowing of its existence. But my fascination with the Asian cinema of course prompted me to watch it.

While director Kôji Maeda did indeed manage to make the movie watchable, I must admit that this was hardly an outstanding or particularly memorable moment in the Japanese cinema. Sure, it was entertaining enough and enjoyable enough, but there are far better choices readily available in the Japanese cinema.

The acting in the movie was good, despite of the storyline halting and being semi-stupid at times.

My rating of "Sailor Suit and Machine Gun" settles on a mediocre five out of ten stars.
