It's 'Pasta' meets '49 Days' in this pretty enjoyable K-drama.
cremea4 September 2015
Oh My Ghost (aka Oh My Ghostess) is a 16 episode 2015 KTV drama. The story involves a lowly kitchen worker who wants to become a chef, the head chef as the romantic interest, and a ghost who wants to settle her grudge. There's also a murder mystery angle involved.

SPOILERS AHEAD!

Our story revolves around 2 young women; one is a lonely restaurant assistant who has a crush on her boss, but is too shy to act on it. She also happens to have the ability to see ghosts, which ain't helping her any in her personal or professional life. The other woman is a ghost who can't find her way to the afterlife because she's resentful that she died a virgin. She can't remember how she died and doesn't really care at first., she's just looking to inhabit any living woman she can in order to lose her virginity so she can finally leave this world. Ghost girl meets living girl and discovers that the chef she has a crush on is one of the few living men who can handle her "supernatural sexual powers". Thus, ghost girl plans to quickly enter living girl's body to have sex with this chef in order to satisfy her desires before departing earth forever.

What happens here is ghost girl periodically inhabits living girl in order to accomplish her main goal (i.e. getting laid). This creates all kinds of problems for the living girl, as she can't remember anything that occurs when the ghost girl takes over her body. Furthermore, these two women are polar opposites in terms of their personalities; living girl is timid and lethargic, and ghost girl is an aggressive loud mouth. Thus, everyone around living girl now thinks she's suffering from some multiple personality disorder as she switches back & forth from quiet & reserved to boisterous & outgoing (depending on whether her body is being occupied by the ghost girl or not).

Unfortunately for ghost girl, this chef she's trying to seduce has old fashioned values and wants to take the slow approach to a relationship. She just wants to hop in the sack with the guy, but he won't acquiesce, and this frustrates her to no end. Left with few options, ghost girl and living girl team up in order to find a solution for each of their separate problems; ghost girl helps living girl blossom as an all-around woman and win over the man she likes, and living girl allows ghost girl to continually try to accomplish her goal while also helping her out in other ways. It doesn't take long before these two girls become BFF's while also balancing out each other's personalities.

Everything is going according to plan, but problems eventually arise. Ghost girl starts falling in love with the chef over time (which was not her intention), and living girl discovers that ghost girl's grudge may not be related to being a virgin at all. There's also an attractive career woman vying for the chef's affection that must be dealt with, and someone who might be inhabited by an evil spirit that eventually represents your main antagonist on several fronts. From there, it's just a matter of following along with the story to see how everything will play out.

As usual, you need to give these K-dramas some breathing room to see how they evolve before casting judgement. The first few episodes are a little rocky but the story does settle in quickly, and it's mostly entertaining for the bulk of its run time.

There's a lot to like about this story and this show, and it's helped greatly by the performance of the two lead actresses. I'm quite familiar with Park Bo-young (who portrays the living girl, and is the main star of the show), and she just kills it in a role that requires her to start out acting on opposite ends of the spectrum and slowly blending them into some middle ground over time. Kim Seul-gi plays the ghost girl, and this isn't the first time I've seen her play a bit of a manic character in a supporting role, but she's quite good at it, and somebody needs to give her shot at as a lead actress asap. These two actresses drive this show from start to finish, and they interact so well that you'd think they've been working together for years.

Jo Jung-suk plays the chef and lead love interest. He's fairly likable and effective (especially when compared to the asshole head chef character portrayed in 'Pasta') and, of course, he's pretty easy on the eyes. The rest of the cast of characters not mentioned above consist of the "ghost catcher" lady with a soft spot for the ghost girl, an assortment of fit subordinate chef dudes ranging from reasonable to obnoxious and that get shirtless for no reason (other than to obviously appease the female viewers), along with a few others of import.

This show utilizes several cooking related segments throughout, and a few ghostly special effects as needed, and while both of these of aspects are employed rather sparsely, they do serve their purpose. Production values are solid enough for this type of show, and it's competently written and directed as well (though you'll have to excuse the lack of rules of what a ghost can or can't do). There is a bit of lag during some of the middle episodes, but not so much that it doesn't comply with my number one rule for any K-drama (i.e. "Don't Be Boring!").

Summary: Is it great?...Of course not!. But there are a number of things to like here. It does ultimately work quite well for what it is, it's also pretty well paced, and there's a nice mix of drama, humor, poignancy, suspense, love, etc. Personally, I thought it was very nicely done!

Bottom Line: 8 out of 10 stars on the K-Drama scale!...Solidly Recommended!

I love this show..

In fact, I love watching K-dramas more than just about anything else on TV. It's a lovely romance tale with a touch of comedy, mystery and drama, and Park Bo-Young is just the cutest and she plays her character(s) beautifully - as do the other starring and supporting cast members.

This was a great viewing experience. The 16 episodes have everything you could ask for in a series. There was comedy, drama, mystery and suspense in just about every episode. The characters had depth and charisma. The actors were excellent. The view of Korean society was intriguing and educational. Well worth your time. Enjoy.

It's a classic
fistamamanbush22 August 2016
I've seen many, many dramas; many good, some bad, others just forgettable. There are those I consider great, as in classics. Dramas I've seen twice or more, and will probably watch yet again in the future. Which is saying something because these things are often like watching 16+ hour films.

Secret Garden, My Girlfriend is a Gumiho, Lovely Kim Sam Soon, Hello Agashi, Cunning Single Lady, Healer, My Love From Another Star...well there are a bunch, and this is no exception.

It's a bittersweet love story about moving on, letting go and overcoming obstacles. This drama nails the balance between humor, drama, thriller and the macabre. The acting, direction and writing are all top notch. The two actresses who star in the drama are stand outs - especially the main gal as she plays two completely different personalities flawlessly.

If you are a fan of Korean dramas, or are new to the genre, this one is a fantastic watch. Highly recommend this one!!!

I Fell in Love.
CharlieHere12 April 2018
I had never watched a Korean Drama before, I was scrolling on Netflix looking for something to watch for an hour to unwind and thought the premise sounded interesting.

Then, I proceeded to watch as many episodes as possible until I fell unconscious.

I did this for the next three days, everyday I got home from work. I was absolutely shattered but didn't care. Then, when I finished the series, I decided to go and watch my favourite parts over and over and over again. This is definitely in my top 10 favourite TV shows of all time.

All the actors are amazing, Park Bo-Young is absolutely terrific at acting as two different characters. The cinematography was done perfectly, I cannot describe to you the emotion and the humour that some of these shots added. The plot, the mystery, the suspense! And, of course, the romance! It was unpredictable, original and made me blush, laugh and cry. I've been in such a cheery mood since watching it. All the different characters and their storylines, this show had so many layers. I don't want to hype it up too much, but I do absolutely love it and would recommend it if you want something that can be both fun and emotional.

You'll Laugh, You'll Cry, You'll Fall in Love with "Oh My Ghost!"
spasek28 January 2018
Oh My Ghost! has a great premise of a young, shy, timid girl (Bong-Sun) who can see and even communicate with ghosts. Petrified and "harassed," she finds herself constantly tired due to lack of sleep and doing her best to avoid these pesky spirits! She even goes so far as to cover the walls of her tiny apartment in talismans and anything else that might keep the spirits away.

Enter Soon-Ae, a ghost who spends much of her time eluding the local shaman (Seobingo), who can not only see and interact with spirits, but she can catch them too!

Bong-Sun works at a restaurant under a nationally recognized chef who is constantly scolding her for her lack of attention, lack of energy, and most importantly, her lack of confidence. Constantly apologizing, she drives Chef Kang crazy, as well as her co-workers.

Once again, after being chased by Seobingo, Soon-Ae takes possession of Bong-Sun, and this is where the fun begins! Through the sudden habitation of Soon-Ae, Bong-Sun's personality is altered. She's confident, not shy at all, and even demonstrates innate cooking abilities, much to the shock and surprise of Chef Kang and his fellow cooks.

Of course, the series is about how Bong-Sun and Chef Kang will come together, as he's completely caught off-guard by her sudden forwardness and flirtations.

The series is a complete delight! I can't say enough about Bo-Young Park's performance. She's able to switch personalities of Bong-Su and being possessed by Soon-Ae with all of the deftness of a master at her craft. The beauty of this is that Park is equally charming in both "roles." She is so cute and adorable, that you love her in either part. Her charm is what drives the series.

Of course, there is also a mystery to be solved regarding Soon-Ae and how and why she died. Her story is just as interesting and intriguing as Bong-Sun's. In fact, it can be noted that her story is touching as well as tragic. So much so, that you may find it hard to choke back a few tears. Seul-Gi Kim does a magnificent job in this role.

The series is a perfect balance and blend of drama, comedy, suspense, and romance. The four cooks who work under Kang are a perfect fit when a laugh is needed. They are hilarious and they work off each other so wonderfully. The entire cast is to be commended.

There really isn't anything contrived at all in this series. The plot flows smoothly without anything feeling forced. I've seen too many plots where the writers and the director loses sight of the story and feels that they have to come up with something that is scarcely believable or plausible.

Oh My Ghost! is a terrific series that you may have a hard time stopping after watching just one episode. You'll find yourself laughing a lot, shedding a few tears, and cheering in the end for Bong-Sun and Soon-Ae. Both of them realize that the key to Life is to Love. Because without it, Life is pretty dismal, whether you're alive or a ghost!

Best korean drama ever
astridallyssa18 August 2015
Warning: Spoilers
This is one of the best korean drama i've ever watched! I really love Park Bo Young Characters! We can tell the difference when she plays the role of Na bong sun and the ghost. And for the Chef, he's so full of charisma! I'm starting to like him a lot <3 A lot of viewers are more liking the love between the ghost and chef. But i'm not. I really ship na bong sun and chef! Na bong sun really likes him a lot. She even made a scrap book about chef. And from my point of view, chef also likes her from the first time he saw her. At first, he acted like a bad guy because he thought that na bong sun shouldn't be a shy and always say 'sorry' to everything that she'd done. He didn't want her to be like him in the past who always got bullied by his school 'friends'. So he's hoping that she will do her best for herself. and this drama is really worth to watch. You won't be disappointed. OH MY GHOST, FIGHTING!

Good enough
PennyReviews20 June 2016
Warning: Spoilers
I wasn't sure whether I should watch this drama or not. From the plot summery, it seemed like yet another bubbly K drama, with the cute girl getting into all shorts of trouble, but finally getting the boy. In this case the girl, the loner and with no self esteem sous chef Na Bong, has feelings for her chef, arrogant Sun Woo. But she only gets a chance with him after she is being possessed by a ghost. That's the main plot. Then there is the story of the ghost's past, her death (neither of which she can remember), and the complicated love triangle. There were some funny moments, though the romance wasn't that great, as you didn't know whether to like Na Bong or the ghost, but the whole mystery, bad guy chase really gave something to this drama. Of course it all resolves to Park Bo Young's acting. She can swift from one character to the other with great easiness that you can distinguish the ghost from the real person quickly. The whole cooking theme was a great idea as well, as it gave a nice atmosphere to the drama. So 6 out of 10.

It had everything I love in a series. Romance, Supernatural, Crime, Comedy.
DrunkenSoju4 April 2019
At first I thought this drama was okay for the first few episodes. As things got very intense I started to like it. Bo-Young Park really played an amazing job showing two different personalities in a professional and seamless change of a person being possessed. Her acting was definitely on point. The entire series really provided everything I like to see in a drama; Romance, Comedy, Supernatural (which was not too scary) and Crime. The story of everything really matched up and made me want to watch til everything was solved and investigations were lingering. Good series to watch and would recommend to see all the actors hard work and dedication for the outcome of this series.

namrathanachappa9 July 2021
This is an extremely funny and sweet rom-com with cute stuff and adorable scenes. There's a small murder mystery thrown in as well. The lead female along with the ghost girl are very likeable characters and have played their parts well.

All in all, its a one time watch, ideal of you're looking for some light hearted stuff.

If you're into K-Dramas, give this show a wide berth
kunagueroooooo16 July 2022
I love K-dramas, especially rom-coms. I had just finished watching "My Love From A Star" and was looking for another rom-com from Korea to while away the hours, when this one popped up on my list. It gets an 8.0 rating on here so I thought I'd give it a go.

I couldn't quite finish one episode. It wasn't a K-Drama, it was a T-Drama as in made in Thailand. The vocals were so annoying, non-stop screechy jibber-jabber. As pretty as the lead female star was and as handsome as the lead male star was, I had to switch it off.

I've given it 6 stars because the story line looked very interesting and the acting that I saw was fine but the Korean language is almost beautiful compared to this.

Not for me, sorry.

Na Bong-sun Vs Shin Soon-ae
nick_ynnnz1 September 2019
Keeping this note only to appreciate Park Bo-young's acting.

All through the drama, she plays like Bong and Soon. Her switching to both characters is mesmerizing. Not confusing a bit, can understand who she plays now without any description. From the way of talking to facial expressions, she does a great job. That is what needs from an actor or an actress - to do their job well by sinking inside the character.

Nowadays it is all about nudity and it is disappointing.

Love It!
dmw-8010723 February 2019
It's been 4 years since this drama has been released and it's so good. I am rewatching this drama again because of the swirl of emotions I get from watching it the first time. The two main characters has an amazing chemistry on screen. Even made me search for them in real life to see if they happen to be dating each other! Definitely a must watch and it would be nice if they came out with Oh My Ghost 2, with the same cast. I will await for sequels! Wishful thinking...

Absolutely stunning!
natsuka_arei16 October 2018
The story is about a cute girl named Na Bong-Sun (Park Bo-Young) who works at a restaurant, owned by famous star chef named Kang Sun-Woo (Cho Jung-Seok). Bong-Sun is quiet timid girl with an ability to see and communicate with ghost. The opposite of her, is Kang Sun-Woo, the good looking and confident guy

One day, Bong-Sun was possessed by the ghost, named Shin Soon-Ae who was trying to seduce Sun-Woo using Bong-Sun, believes by doing so, she can ascend to heaven before turning into evil spirit. Bong-Sung who was possessed, suddenly transformed into a girl with bright and confident trait, amuse those around her.

The story then revolves around the mystery case of the death of Shin Soon-Ae almost 3 years ago and the love story between Bong-Sun and Sun-Woo. I like how the story tries to depict Bong-Sun growth and improvement of herself to be more confident. At first all the transformation is caused by Soon-Ae, but along the way, Bong-Sun meet a lot of different people and experience new thing that help her character to grow. This movies contain so much element, it is funny, romantic but not too cheesy, interesting character with plot and story intertwined with each other bring an unexpected element of surprise, moral of the story which is relatable with our life, superb acting from all the cast, nice character development, great OST music, etc.

In short, this is one of my favourite Korean Drama, 16 episode, and you will find yourself entertained by it, give it a try!

Korean TV mini drama at its Best!!! A definite 10!
ladyer6110 June 2018
Thank You NETFLIX, I am more humble to see another awesome 16 episodes mini drama from Korea. First, it was IRIS, Black, LIVE and just finished with "Oh My Ghost". Great story and casting, if you don't like the first 3 episodes. Then you are missing a wonderful story, it'll make you laugh, sad, cry and mystery. Don't watch it if you cry easily like me. Episode 16 got me with 8 tissues that I had to dry my tears away. Next on the list to watch on NETFLIX, 'Gab-Dong' (20 episodes).

Yes, Shrek pasta really exists!
rosaliesummers16 April 2020
Oh My Ghost is a K-Drama following Bong-Sun, a lifeless kitchen assistant who has a crush on the head chef, until one day a ghost appears to mix things up! This was so fun to watch and I'd really recommend.

Firstly, the characters were great. To be honest I didn't like anyone through the first few episodes but I soon warmed up to them so if you're not enjoying this straight away just keep going and it gets better. The character development was consistent throughout and the acting was good from most of the characters, if a little exaggerated. (You will be shocked to know that the shaman is also the housekeeper in Parasite!) The main romance was maybe my favourite ever, it was so cute and adorable. It feels slow paced at first but it is a good build up.

There were also some genuinely funny moments throughout the series, mostly involving the kitchen staff or the shaman. Some of the camerawork was hilarious too although I don't know if that was intentional! There was such a positive vibe that suggested all the cast got in really well and it was just great to see.

Something to note - especially in the first half there are several unexpected jumpscares. There is no build up to them so they really take you aback! And there is violence towards the end so some viewers may be wary.

Maybe the only bad thing about this was that in the middle there was unnecessary relationship problems just for the sake of drama which felt forced. But that was the only thing that annoyed me.

Also I love Chef but why was it never addressed that he found a dog and instead of reporting it he just kept it tied up? Lol what a fine man.

If you are a fan of romance this is a must watch!

I just recently started watching Korean drama etc. and I am so impressed. Both with the actors and the stories. Oh My Ghost stars Bo Young Park who I have seen in other features. She is so versatile both is comedy and drama. I watched the episodes in 2 days because I always wanted to see the next episode. The last to episodes bring tears, they are so touching. Jung-Suk jo and his "crew" are hilarious.

Warning: Spoilers
Yes, you'll love her head over heals. I do. I watched her strong girl series and I came here. This series is so good. Every character has a story to tell. No one's portrayed like an unwanted cast member. Especially Park Bo-young. No doubt she's one the brilliant actresses. The way she did she switches the characters is simply awesome. She carried it so well that You'll notice the clear difference of those characters. It's a great show. Do give it a try.

refreshing
MJoseG25 December 2018
It's really refreshing to experience this series as a romance, tv-soap, spiritual ghost story and a crime thriller. They fit together so well it doesn't feel like anything in the story was made up like weird coincidences or odd conversations to skip any possible plot holes.
