The NCIS: Origins cast added another big piece of the puzzle.
An announcement was made that the producers added someone to play Gibbs’ dad – and they made a great choice.
The new show from the NCISverse is set in 1991, telling early stories from NCIS that revolve around Leroy Jethro Gibbs and Mike Franks.
Mark Harmon played Gibbs on NCIS, but the younger version of the character will be played by someone new.
Some NCIS fans felt that Mark Harmon’s son (Sean Harmon) could do the role, especially with how well he played a younger Gibbs in flashback episodes of NCIS.
Actor Austin Stowell is now playing Gibbs, which might be hard for some NCIS fans to accept.

Executive produced and narrated by Mark Harmon, Origins begins in 1991, years before the events of NCIS, and chronicles Leroy Jethro Gibbs’ younger years. In the prequel, Gibbs (Austin Stowell) starts his career as a newly minted special agent at the fledgling Nis Camp Pendleton office where he forges his place on a gritty, ragtag team led by NCIS legend Mike Franks (Kyle Schmid).
Additionally, Mariel Molina will play Special Agent Lala Dominguez, Tyla Abercrumbie will play Field Operation Support Officer Mary Jo Sullivan and Diany Rodriguez will play Special Agent Vera Strickland.

Women’s History Month may be over, but that doesn’t mean that women aren’t leading many of Hulu’s top picks for April. The month begins with the premiere of Vanderpump Villa, a Hulu Original reality series that follows Lisa Vanderpump and the hand-selected staff members employed at her lavish French estate, Chateau Rosabelle. This next chapter in the Vanderpump saga is sure to be full of drama, decadence, and debauchery as the staff caters to Vanderpump, her wealthy guests, and their own desires.
Hulu Original Under the Bridge, based on the 1997 true-crime novel of the same name, also premieres this month. This limited series follows the investigation of Reena Virk’s disappearance –the fourteen-year-old left to meet some friends and never returned home. Starring Riley Keough and Academy Award nominee Lily Gladstone, Under the Bridge has all the makings of a true-crime hit. Rounding out this month,...

A couple of new genre movies are headed to Netflix in April, including M. Night Shyamalan’s Split and sequel Glass, but this coming month is sadly more about what’s *leaving* Netflix.
The horror films leaving Netflix in April 2024 include Day of the Dead: Bloodline, which will be leaving the streaming service on April 4. This one’s no huge loss for most fans, as the 2018 horror movie was another lackluster attempt to reanimate George Romero’s horror classic.
Deliver Us from Evil (2014) is leaving Netflix on April 11, director Scott Derrickson’s supernatural horror movie starring Eric Bana. The film was inspired by the real life experiences of retired NYPD sergeant Ralph Sarchie, particularly based on his book Beware the Night.
Both The Meg (2018) and Train to Busan (2016) are leaving Netflix on April 22, one a killer shark blockbuster and the other a critically acclaimed South Korean zombie masterpiece.

When a film is looking to maximize its box office, there are numerous factors to consider. Some films rely on star power to draw audiences. Others attach themselves to recognizable properties, hoping familiar titles and characters will bring audiences back. Then there's the film's MPA (Motion Picture Association) rating. In 2018, the organization formerly known as the Motion Picture Association of America released a report noting that over half of all films were rated R, the most-adult, most-restrictive rating. Accordingly, in 2022, Axios reported that R-rated films were drawing a smaller portion of box office revenue than ever.
"If the greatest chance of box office success is having a PG-13 rating, or not having an R-rating, then that's where the industry really had to go," media analyst Paul Dergarabedian told the outlet. Still, he noted, there is often an audience for edgier fare, especially edgy genre fare. "Some of the best movies...

It’s, once again, not safe to go in the water as we quickly find out in the first trailer for Something In The Water.
We’ve barely recovered from the whiplash of watching Jason Statham battle a ginormous shark in The Meg 2, but here we go again!
No, it’s not another The Meg movie. This time, five ordinary women are pitted against a very hungry shark while stranded in the Caribbean.
Take a look at the trailer for Something In The Water.
Hold on, let me just cancel my upcoming holiday to the Caribbean. Now then, that looks rather good!

Sophia McIntosh, Colm Meaney, Phyllis Logan, Grace Nettle and Will Attenborough star.
Claudio Fäh directed the film, which was written by Andy Mayson.
Other upcoming shark attack horrors on our radar include the Japanese movie Hot Springs Shark Attack, 1940s period piece Fear Below, and the World War II-set Beast of War.

It looks like Matthew Vaughn’s Argylle will walk away with an easy win this Super Bowl weekend, with it coming in (slightly) ahead of our expectations to lead the box office with $6.5 million, posting a steep 63% decline in its second weekend. So far, the movie has grossed $28 million domestically, with about a $40-45 million finish in sight. That’s not great for a movie with a rumoured $200 million price tag.
However, it still did much better than Lisa Frankenstein. This retro-styled horror comedy, which is directed by Zelda Williams (Robin’s daughter) from a script by Diablo Cody, would have done much better had it not been hampered by pretty terrible reviews. However, our own Tyler Nichols had an ok time with it. The $3.8 million opening (good enough for second place) is far below tracking, and it seems like the film is destined for a sub-$10 million total. However,...

Warner Bros.' The Meg franchise already graced the big screen on two separate occasions, and many fans are now wondering if The Meg 3 will follow.
After the original The Meg came out in 2018 and earned an impressive $529 million at the worldwide box office, it was a no-brainer to bring back Jason Statham to lead the cast for a sequel.
That sequel, which was titled The Meg 2, was released in 2023 and saw a bit of a drop financially when compared to the first movie, grossing only $397 million on the same budget ($130 million) that the original was given.

Ridley Scott has found the god of music for his upcoming ‘Gladiator’ sequel, reports ‘Variety’.
Harry Gregson-Williams has been hired to compose the score for the hotly anticipated Paramount feature, which is due to be out on November 22, more than 24 years after the Oscar-winning original starring Russell Crowe and Joaquin Phoenix.
The film, adds ‘Variety’, marks the seventh collaboration between Scott and Gregson-Williams. The composer has penned the scores for ‘The Martian’, ‘Prometheus’, ‘Exodus: Gods and Kings’, ‘Kingdom of Heaven’, ‘The Last Duel’ and ‘House of Gucci’.
Other credits for Gregson-Williams include ‘Chicken Run: Dawn of the Nugget’, ‘The Meg’, ‘Mulan’, ‘The Gilded Age’, ‘The Equalizer’, ‘Bridget Jones: The Edge of Reason’, ‘The Chronicles of Narnia’ and all three ‘Shrek’ films.

Aardman’s flock of clay chickens is back. And so is their composer.
23 years after Chicken Run became a stop-motion smash hit, Ginger, Rocky, Babs, Mac and the rest of the coop are returning for Chicken Run: Dawn of the Nugget, landing on Netflix on Dec 15. If the music sounds similar, it’s because Harry Gregson-Williams, who composed the original score alongside John Powell, has also returned.
In the more-than-two decades since the first film, the L.A.-based Brit — who has worked closely with Hans Zimmer for much of his career — has scored dozens of major titles for filmmakers including Ridley Scott, Joel Schumacher, Ben Affleck and Antoine Fuqua.
Alongside movies such as Shrek 1, 2 and 3, Bridget Jones: The Edge of Reason, Kingdom of Heaven, The Chronicles of Narnia, Prometheus, The Martian, The Meg and House of Gucci, the music man has also ventured back to Aardman for the...

Following the enormous critical and financial success in the local theaters, the release of “The Meg” started a wave of similarly-produced creature features and animal-attack films to capitalize on its release. That has led to a steady stream of cheap, goofy creature features that remain popular to this day, including this effort from 2020 that is now available on digital and DVD from WellGo USA.

Ben Wheatley feels as if shooting 'Meg 2' was a "wild-fever" dream. The 51-year-old director is at the helm of the action film that follows the research team on an exploratory dive into the deepest depths of the ocean and admitted it has been nice to have some "distance" from it in the run-up to the release. He told Empire Magazine: "I feel like it's nice to have some distance from it, but it also feels like a wild fever dream now. It was a big chunk of time. It was two-and-a-half years, or something, I was on it for, all in all."In terms of shooting the underwater scenes, Ben went on to explain that it was a 2really bizarre" world to try to bring to the screen, even though there was no actual filming that took place underwater. He said: "Huge swathes of the movie are set in and around the Mariana Trench,...

Before Sharknado took the world of pop culture by storm, producer Roger Corman unleashed Sharktopus in 2010, a Syfy original movie featuring a monster that was half shark and half octopus. The film ended up spawning two spinoff movies – Sharktopus vs. Pteracuda in 2014 and Sharktopus vs. Whalewolf in 2015 – and now a remake is on the way?!
Yes, Sharktopus is getting a Chinese remake here in 2023, thirteen years after Syfy unleashed their hybrid monster. And the official trailer has arrived this week. Check it out below.
Directed by Xu Shi-Xing and Hu Dong-Sheng, this particular take on Sharktopus looks to be heavily inspired by The Meg, which itself feels like a big budget Corman production.
No word yet on the remake’s international release strategy. Stay tuned for more.
Michelle Ye, Luo Li-Qun, Chen Wen-Jun and Lemon Li star in Sharktopus (2023).

There was a significant degree of excitement in horror circles when it was announced that British director Ben Wheatley was going to be directing the sequel to 2018’s Jason Statham vs Giant Shark blockbuster The Meg. The hope was that Wheatley’s horror sensibilities and eye for jet-black humour would add a bit of bite to what was otherwise a passably entertaining, but ultimately uninspired Jaws retread. Unfortunately, those hopes have not come to pass, as there’s very little trace of the acclaimed British director’s signature touch in this largely derivative sequel.

All signs point to this year having a blockbuster spooky season.
There is always a seasonal spike in demand for horror movies, but several indicators, including a series of recent new horror movies that have premiered with high demand, point to this being a successful October for horror content.
The average demand for horror movies in 2023 has been consistently higher than the past two years, even well before the traditional rise in demand for scary movies.
A more interesting trend that we have measured over the last three years is an earlier start to the seasonal uptick in demand for horror movies. In 2021, there was a pretty clear increase starting the first week of October. In 2022, the uptick began around mid-September. This year, the average demand for horror movies has been steadily climbing since July. The average horror movie demand as of Sept. 30 this year (2.5x the average movie demand...

Pundits have been talking about Jason Statham as the last old-school action hero for nearly 20 years. Yes, “The Transporter” opened two decades ago. Since then, he’s expanded his horizons here and there, taking high-profile supporting roles in “The Fast and Furious” series and “Spy” while offering his star power to “The Meg” films and the “Hobbs & Shaw” spin-off.
However, his latest offering, about a guy avenging the death of a mentor/caretaker (played by Phylicia Rashad) using talents specific to his role as a beekeeper, feels like a prototypical Statham vehicle. This quest for revenge, courtesy of director David Ayer and writer Kurt Wimmer, is going to sting.
The trailer, which you can watch above, offers the expected set-up, while also introducing Jeremy Irons as the eventual big boss. The stakes-setting prologue precedes an expected montage of explosions, shoot-outs and righteous murders. The twist is that Statham is...

Jason Statham admits that Sylvester Stallone's limited role in 'Expend4bles' didn't "feel right".Sly's alter ego Barney Ross only plays a small part in the latest movie in the action franchise and Statham says his absence was keenly felt on set.Jason told Cinema Express: "In this particular story, he is absent for reasons we don't talk about, we have to guide ourselves through the ocean without him."There is something about not having him around that doesn't feel right. So, we are getting through, the story is the story, we are trying to do our best, but the best days are when he is on set."'The Meg' star is set to take over as the lead star in the franchise following the new film but he pointed out that the movies would never have come to fruition without the influence of the 'Rocky' legend.

Those who missed “Meg 2: The Trench” in theaters and were waiting for a streaming option are in luck. Warner Bros. Discovery will toss the Ben Wheatley-directed shark sequel onto the Max streaming platform on Sept. 29, just shy of two months after the film’s early-August theatrical debut. Thanks to responsible budgeting and a core appeal of watching big-budget shark carnage while major movie stars try to save the day, “The Meg 2: The Trench” somewhat bucked this summer’s trend of underperforming sequels.
Starring Jason Statham and Chinese superstar Wu Jing, “Meg 2: The Trench” earned $390 million in global earnings. That’s below the $530 million global total for the first “The Meg” in 2018. However, that’s more than the worldwide totals for such seemingly surefire summer 2023 hits as “Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny” and “The Flash.” Also, considering the sequel only cost a reported $129 million, that...

Four (an unusually high number) recent studio theatrical releases added PVOD home availability over the last week. No question which among them scored best — “Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny” (Disney) took the #1 slot on all charts.
Consumer options vary among the titles. “Indiana Jones” can immediately be digitally downloaded for $19.99. “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem” (Paramount) is $19.99 for a 48 hour rental, as is “The Last Voyage of the Demeter” (Universal). “Mutant” can be purchased for $24.99. Meanwhile, Disney released “The Boogeyman” at a $14.99 initial rental price.
The rush to open could be related to two factors — holiday viewing, but also the anticipated (but not yet confirmed) release of “Barbie” (Warner Bros.) as early as Tuesday. Presales are available on multiple sites, but none yet list a specific date.
Oddly, only “Indiana Jones” among the four new entries made all three charts. “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles” was released Friday,...

Plot: As part of her quest to become president of her sorority house, Emily adopts a three-toed sloth and makes it the house mascot. Unfortunately for her and her sorority sisters, this sloth is a homicidal maniac.
Review: There are so many “nature run amok” movies out there, particularly shark thrillers and killer croc (or gator) flicks, they can be easy to overlook and pass by. But every once in a while, something will be intriguing enough to stand out from the pack. 47 Meters Down, The Shallows, The Meg, Crawl, Cocaine Bear, etc. The latest to stand out from the pack, with both its title and concept, is director Matthew Goodhue’s Slotherhouse. A movie that mixes together the nature run amok and sorority house slasher sub-genres to very entertaining effect… and may be the first killer sloth movie. It’s difficult to believe we’ve never gotten a killer sloth before,...
