Shallow/Minor Complaints
eminayuuki12 February 2022
Teruhashi : too many hand movements, lacks the usual confidence anime Teruhashi has, but narcissism is still intact - just plain irritating.. seems r----ded.. will make you say "stfu fake Teruhashi" Aren : moves like a worm who've just been sprinkled with salt Nendo: good resemblance, just wish he's way taller Kaido: his weird movements would have worked if the camera was closer and was following him along, but it's awkwardly far and he's just moving around inside the shot

Went over the top on things that could've been subtle, did not go crazy enough with this that should have been over the top. Would have worked with better direction.

Kasuo's dad is on point though.

The Disastrous Life of Saiki Kusuo live action is a total disaster
phanthinga3 December 2018
If you a fan of the manga or the anime please do yourself a favor that is save your time and money and not spent it on watching this load of hot turd cause watching this movie is like watching an extremely talkative Kusuo who hate coffee jelly to the guts or a boring ass Nendou or a so over the top version of Teruhashi to the point that it make the anime counterpart of her seem bearable and if all of that not a big middle finger from the director Yuichi Fukuda who I highly praised for the excellent job at adapting Gintama into live action movie to the source material and the fan then I don't know what else.

Not Good Enough
PennyReviews18 May 2018
I have not watched the anime yet, nor had any other background information on the story. Therefore, I can't say if this movie follows the anime perfectly or it was a disastrous live action. For what is worth, it was kind of enjoyable, though it was so fast paced and idiotic at some points that lost the good qualities that this movie actually had. Yamazaki is back again with another student character, this time though, with super powers and bright pink hair. I do like him as an actor, to be honest, and it was the only reason why I picked up this movie. But, in here, he's just okay. Not bad, but not outstandingly good. Maybe the script didn't help him, however. The other actors were okay as well, even though that girl did overreact at some points. The plot, on the other hand, tried too hard to make the movie anime like and some of the jokes ended up to be just silly comical scenes. Unfortunately, I doupt that I'll remember even watching this movie.

Would never watch it again

Warning: Spoilers
First of all the budget is so small it hurts. I haven't watched the anime or read the manga so I have no idea if the movie is close to the original story. I loved Kento's character but I can't help but feel weirded out by the over-acting and goofiness of some characters. Also the plot didn't make sense to me. (Why are they so fascinated by rocks?) Maybe it's just me not being a fan of anime-like characters. It just feels even weirder seeing the live action. Having watched Alice in Borderland makes it much harder for me to like his other live action films/shows. If you're into this type of acting, maybe you will like it. It did have some funny moments even for me.

A disastrous adaption of an anime/manga
xprisma31 July 2021
First I'd like to say I love the Saiki K anime! I fully know that any live adpation of an anime or cartoon show can be a hit or bust. This was a bust. 👎

I was so excited to watch this film even though I could tell from trailer it probably wasn't going to be faithful to the anime or manga. They weren't faithful to the characters, or storyline. It was like they crammed 10 episodes into one movie that takes place in one setting. They made the main characters act in ways they normally wouldn't, and combined traits/ personalities other characters have into one person. Without sharing spoilers I will say Teruhashi, Nendo, Hairo, and Kuboyasu are not represented in the best light. Kusuo and Kaido are pretty much the same but at the same time they aren't. Kusuo is completely dead pan and Kaido exhibits no embarrassment from his dillusions like he normally would in the anime.

I'm not going to say not to watch it because if your a fan curiosity will get the best of you. But honestly you aren't missing anything.

So cute and funny
its_mida25 March 2019
Honestly this was so refreshing! The cast is so colorful, and they play up their anime counterparts so well. As someone who's enjoyed the anime, I think they did a fantastic job translating everything into live action. The low-budget effects of the floating cars and fake backgrounds really lended themselves well to the gags.

I especially loved how well the main character kept a straight face. It almost felt sometimes that he was almost about to burst laughing, but he always kept it together. I also thought the wigs and costumes were done especially well. It's obviously fake hair, but with how colorful the uniforms and setting is, everything blends quite well. The fact that every character is ridiculous, and strange occurrences are dismissed really helps with immersion. Instead of focusing on how bizarre their world is, the characters allow the story to move along.

The short of it is this: this is a live action adaptation that stays true to the anime (it doesn't try to re-write any characters or anything frustrating like that!). It is colorful, most of the acting is quite good, the gags are funny, and it's light-hearted. This isn't some deep drama, I'm surprised the other reviews are so low. If you enjoy the silliness of the anime, it's reflected quite well in the live action, especially considering the budget and that it is real live people.

It's over the top and extremely fun from beginning to end. I laughed so much that my stomach hurts. Haven't seen a movie that much fun in a long time.

If picasso made movies...
connorxavier26 August 2022
This would top them. This movie is absolutely beautiful. It fully encaptures the awkwardness of the anime, and shows each characters personality incredibly well. It would get ten stars, if they didnt miss out on an absolute fantastic opportunity for an ending line. The last scene should have been kusuo saying yare yare.

I mean it is better than some live-action
nguyenhan-6925328 October 2021
I have seen many live-action so I think this movie is good if you compare it to others. I mean the purpose of this movie is to be a comedy, maybe it has some details that are good in the comic and anime but not good outside. The quality of the jokes is medium. The crew only has 1 hour so I think it is okay, and I think they have tried their best to follow the original with some of the creative so 1 more point for that. I have seen several live-action changes the story so much that I can not even recognize the story.
