Spoilers

The Parents Guide items below may give away important plot points.

Violence & Gore

  • When the woman who was raped is discovered to not be a virgin by her fiance, she doesn't tell him she was forced into the act as she fears no one will believe it was the minister, and her fiance leaves her. She ends up visiting the local healer woman with a bloodied face, saying her father beat and threw her out.
  • Likely the most violent part of the film is when a woman has her hand squeezed in some kind of vice. It's brief and the vice is loosened pretty quickly, but we see her bloodied finger in it.
  • Ultimately, most of the "witches" are beheaded. This is not shown, but everything leading up to it is and the prisoners are treated roughly.
  • When a woman discovers her lover is known for sleeping around, she picks up a sharp tool and threatens him with it. When he approaches her, she swings it down and catches his arm. It bleeds and she cries with regret, but he's ok.
