Franco Towards the End
Jess Killed In Ecstasy (2015)
**** (out of 4)
Excellent and at times incredibly touching interview with Jess Franco who starts off taking about the making of SHE KILLED IN ECSTASY, which is considered by many to be one of his best films. Franco talks about it somewhat highly, although he says there are many things about it that he doesn't like including actor Fred Williams. From here the attention turns to Soledad Miranda, her work in the film and her tragic death while on the way to sign a contract. You can tell that the subject still upsets the director but the final five-minutes of this interview will probably be hard for some fans to watch. The final portion of the featurette has Franco talking about the various awards that he was given towards the end of his life and why they really didn't mean a thing to him. Franco talks about himself in a very negative way and the brutal honesty he reveals can't help but make you sad. Fans of the director will certainly want to watch this even though it's certainly not the most cheerful interview Franco has given.
