‘Unhuman’ Review (Amazon Prime)
Image
Stars: Brianne Tju, Ali Gallo, Benjamin Wadsworth, Peter Giles, Lo Graham, Uriah Shelton, Drew Scheid, Joshua Mikel, C.J. LeBlanc | Written by Marcus Dunstan, Patrick Melton | Directed by Marcus Dunstan

Unhuman begins with title cards proclaiming it ”A Blumhouse Afterschool Special” and “Presented by the Student Teach Division (Std)”. That was the last thing I was expecting from a film by director Marcus Dunstan and his long-time co-writer Patrick Melton. While the three Feast films had their share of humour the duo are better known for more serious fare such as several of the later Saw films as well as The Collector and its sequel, both of which Dunstan also directed.

And it does begin like an Afterschool Special, Ever goes from dealing with her overprotective mother to being picked up by her best friend Tamra (Ali Gallo; Before I Go) who nearly hits Randall on their way to school. But...

Cottonwood, Zdf, Zdfe, HBO Max, Globo Set ‘Indiana Jones’-Style Live-Action Kids Series ‘Theodosia’ (Exclusive)
Image
In a powerful alliance, Paris-based premium kids content producer Cottonwood Media, German public broadcaster Zdf and its co-pro and distribution arm Zdf Enterprises, HBO Max and Brazil’s Globo are teaming to produce “Theodosia,” a big new live action kids adventure series targeting family audiences.

No budget is given for the 26-part half hour series. Its combination, however, of elements which make for high-end entertainment – period costume, action and foreseeable heavy Vxf – suggest this is another big play by two of Europe’s champions of ambitious live-action kids shows.

One is Cottonwood Media, the kids and family production company at Paris and L.A -based Federation Entertainment whose credits include Studiocanal’s Cannes 2019 pre-sales movie hit “Around the World in 80 Days,” to be screened at Berlin.

The other, Zdf and Zdfe, has a storied recent history in live action kids shows. “Theodosia” will “continue our successful Zdf live action productions such as ‘H2O,...

Marion Cotillard, who won the Oscar for Best Actress for La Vie En Rose said: "The Antarctic is a frozen wilderness that should be far beyond the reach of human impact, but even the most remote parts of our planet are changing at an alarming rate. Film Review: Enter the Warriors Gate (2016) by Matthias Hoene
With numerous adaptations and plotlines over the years, the modern usage of video games on film has had some great life that sees another new entry come together in this new installment. A true multinational co-production between France, China and Cambodia, director Matthias Hoene’s ‘Enter the Warriors Gate’ emerges as a decent enough fantasy/action epic from the writing/producing duo of Luc Besson and Robert Mark Kamen.

Living in modern American, teenager Jack loves video games and spends the majority of his time playing games or working for his boss Chang when not running from bullies. Suddenly, he finds himself entrusted with guarding Su Lin a princess from ancient China by Zhao, her companion. When she becomes captured by the barbarian Arun and whisked back to her time-period, he goes back to help save her and learns that his skills with video games enable him...

Interview: Matthias Hoene Talks Enter The Warrior's Gate
In Enter the Warrior's Gate, a teenager is magically transported to China where he learns to convert his video game skills into those of a Kung Fu warrior. The film is like The Last Starfighter re-imagined as an epic Chinese fantasy and that's exactly what drew director Mathias Hoene (Cockneys vs. Zombies) to high concept project in the first place. Enter the Warrior's Gate is a Chinese/French co-production between Luc Besson's EuropaCorp and Fundamental Film. The two also partnered on Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets which is slatted to hit theatres this July. ‘Enter the Warriors Gate’ Trailer: Dave Bautista Rules with an Iron Fist

First Trailer for 'Warrior's Gate' About a Video Gamer in Ancient China
"I need you to guard the most precious treasure of the Empire." Don't miss out on this one, movie lovers. EuropaCorp has unveiled a trailer for a crazy new action film titled Warrior's Gate, which is the latest feature co-written by Luc Besson & Robert Mark Kamen (of the Taken and Transporter series). Warrior's Gate is about a teenager gamer living in California who is transported to China and learns to fight as a kung fu warrior, in order to save the princess (of course). It's basically a twist on The Last Starfighter. This is a a co-production between France and China, which is an odd pairing, but it works. The cast includes Uriah Shelton as Jack, Mark Chao, Dave Bautista, Ni Ni, Francis Ng, and Sienna Guillory. This actually looks kind of cool, but also looks like it's straight out of the back of a video rental store in the 90s.

Warrior's Gate Trailer: Why Aren't We Talking About this Luc Besson Fantasy?
Warrior's Gate is essentially The Last Starfighter re-imagined as an epic Chinese fantasy. In it, a teenager is magically transported to China where he learns to convert his video game skills into those of a Kung Fu warrior. While that's kind of a weird premise, it's even weirder that nobody is talking about the film despite the fact that two trailers have dropped and they look pretty darn great.  Warrior's Gate is a Chinese/French co-production between EuropaCorp and Fundamental Film. The two also partnered on Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets which recently made a splash at Comic Con and is getting a significantly bigger push.  The film was written by Besson and long time collaborator Robert Mark Kamen (Taken, The Fifth Element) and...

Lucy 2 and Colombiana 2 both in development
Sequels to Lucy and Colombiana are in the works at EuropaCorp, as well as Warrior's Gate, starring Dave Bautista...

Add two more sequels to the list of those currently queuing up to get to the big screen. This time, this is a pair of films from Luc Besson's EuropaCorp production house, which has already proven its happiness to make sequels where previously they'd been ruled out (that'd be you, Taken 3).

In this case, EuropaCorp has announced a slate of projects that includes both Lucy 2 and Colombiana 2, both of which are surprises. Lucy, and this really doesn't give much away (given quite how insane its last 20 minutes is), doesn't leave too many doors open to a sequel, and Besson himself seemed to have ruled one out last summer, saying "it's not made for that". It's unclear at this stage if Scarlet Johansson will return for the new film. Given...

"Lucy," "Colombiana" Sequels In Development
Luc Besson's EuropaCorp company is participating in CineEurope this week where they announced their list of upcoming movies.

The big surprise is that sequels to last year's Scarlett Johansson sci-fi thriller "Lucy," and the Zoe Saldana action thriller "Colombiana" are both in development.

A year ago Besson himself was asked "Lucy" sequel prospects to which he replied "I don't see how we can do [a sequel]. It''s not made for that." Looks like someone found a way.

Also on the way are "Shut In" with Naomi Watts, "Nine Lives" with Kevin Spacey, "The Lake" with Sullivan Stapleton, and "Escobar" with Javier Bardem and Penelope Cruz which are all due next year. The Dave Bautista-led "Warrior's Gate" and Dane DeHaan and Cara Delevingne-starring "Valerian" are also due in 2017.

'Lucy 2' And 'Colombiana 2' Are In Development
Scarlett Johansson in Lucy (2014)
"I don't see how we can do [a sequel]. It's not made for that,” Luc Besson said last summer about the prospect of a sequel to the surprise smash hit "Lucy." “If I find something good enough, maybe I will, but for now I don't even think about it.” Well, it looks like he's thought about it and something is brewing. At CineEurope 2015, production house EuropaCorp (which Besson heads up) announced their slate of upcoming films, which quietly mentioned that "Lucy 2" was "in development." Here's the roster: “Shut In” with Naomi Watts (International Release Date February 19, 2016) “Nine Lives” with Kevin Spacey (International Release Date April 29, 2016) “The Lake” with Sullivan Stapleton (International Release date July 15, 2016) “Warrior's Gate” with Dave Bautista (date undetermined output) “The Transporter Legacy” with Ed Skrein (Release date September 9, 2015) “Escobar” with Javier Bardem and Penelope Cruz (Released in 2016) ...
