- Men and women are threatened with guns and men and women are also struck and abused by slave masters. On man is gashed across the eye with the butt of a rifle, and another woman is held up against a wall by her throat as her master threatens in detailed description how he wants to crush her throat. Ugly scars, presumably from whippings or beatings, can be seen on multiple people's backs, including Harriet's. Harriet describes how when she was thirteen, her master threw a two pound weight at her head, cracking it open. It is suggested that she may have suffered brain damage from the incident.
- A man is shot in the hand. The entry wound is shown, but is relatively clean and is very brief.
