"A Decent Family Entertainer Worth Watching"
afsalthodupuzha1 May 2015
Nidra, released back in 2012 gave glimpse of Siddharth Bharathan's accomplishment as a proficient director and he stamps it with Chandrettan Evideya by presenting an ordinary storyline written by Santhosh Echikkanm with adequate freshness in narration, proving successful in keeping the audience engaged for its run-time of around 120 minutes.A simple,feel-good movie with ample dose of delicate humor that never backfired,Chandrettan Evideya is a welcome change for Janapriyanayakan who needed a break from his monotonous done-to-death roles in the recent past.

The screenplay by Santhosh Echikkanam is devoid of over the top slapstick numbers and make use of situational humor as the basic additive in presenting this simple story about husband-wife relationship. The basic plot and the sequences reminds us of numerous families movies in the past, but Siddharth manages to narrate the storyline refreshingly utilizing the cast and technical crew to the best.

Even though little lag was felt halfway through the second half,Siddharth managed to bring the movie back into the track towards the climax and ended the movie satisfactorily. The movie turned serious with the onset of climax and managed to present a notable message towards today's society even though clichéd and easily predictable for a normal movie goer.

The flaws in the screenplay, predictability and the fact that the basic premise has been seen many a times before keeps the from being called a brilliant craft, but the Mollywood audience must thank Siddharth for presenting Dileepettan in an avatar that we love to watch him on screen.

Performancewise,Dileepettan was at his best handling situational humor with his trademark mannerisms that we all love to watch again and again. His character reminds us of his yesteryear characters from films like Pattanathil Sundaran,My Boss and Ishtam were loud slapstick numbers take a backseat giving way for witty one-liners and situational humor.Anusree gave a matured performance as Sushuma and was really impressive in a role made to measure for her.Namitha Pramod did her part well.Among the rest of the cast Soubin Shahir was notable whereas Mukesh,Suraj Venjaramood,Chmeban Vinod were good.

Music by Prashant Pillai was adequate with 'Vasantha Mallike' being the pick from the album.Frames by Shyju Khalid were fresh and cuts by Bavan Sreekumar were pretty good providing the movie a cool, trimmed look.

Overall,Chandrettan Evideya is an average family entertainer which has enough in store to call it a movie worth watching from the cinemas.

Verdict::Wisely utilizing situational humor to cover its share of flaws,Chandrettan Evideya is a breezy family satire worth the money that can turn a pretty good watch if you go with less expectations. Yes,this is Dileepettan that we all love to watch!! Ma Rating::7/10

Vintage Dileep impresses, where as Siddharth Bharathan makes his mark with gentle direction

Chandrettan Evideyaa? : Neither Classic nor Crap

It is always good to see actors coming back to form, in sense, doing roles which they fit well. This is one of the reasons which led me to watch Chandrettan Evideya, which is presumed to be the comeback of vintage Dileep from his crap entertainers. And it proved to be right; Dileep was perfect as Chandra Mohan, an officer at Secretariat, who is momentarily disturbed on phone by his over-caring wife, Sushuma, played by Anushree. Certain strings of incidents happen and a 1000year old story brings unexpected changes in support with the circumstances around.

This movie would've been a usual husband-going behind- another woman story, but Siddharth Bharatan's induction of a 1000 year old plot adds a flavor of novelty to the movie. Yes, Siddharth has done a good job as director, I liked his previous venture Nidra too, a director who tries maximum to avoid unwanted flaws. Chandrettan Evideya too was free from such flaws; one can't spot any serious mistakes, similarly no great surprises. Popping up of situational wits momentarily, adds a scent of comedy to the entire plot, in due course, Siddharth has also drawn concentration on building up of such a fragile story. Even though the climax portions seemed purely predictable, Siddhradth successfully placed a small thrill factor towards the end. Another factor which makes the movie engaging is its dialogues; they were simple, yet hilarious and meaningful at parts. Those Tamil dialogues were also good. Cinematography by Shyju Khalid was also the same, there weren't any so called novel frames or new gen camera works, all the scenes were simple, yet beautiful, offered a common feel. Music by Prashant Pillai was apt for the movie, that 'Vasanthamallikae' song was too good. Editing was crisp without any lag, trimmed perfectly.

There weren't too many characters in the film; Dileep was perfect in the role; that old 'Janapriyanaayakan' Dileep is back. But the one who draws attention is Anushree, she had all the emotions required for the character, one of the best actresses in present generation. Namitha Pramod was okay. Supporting roles by Chemban Vinod, KPAC Lalitha, Mukesh, Suraj were also good. But the one who surprised me is the one who acted as Sumesh, good handling of situational comedies. That Short appearance by Vinayakan evoked laughter.

Overall, Chandrettan Evideya is a light-hearted entertainer which can be enjoyed with a pleasant mind. Siddharth was successful in presenting the middle-class family drama in a gentle and enjoyable way. The small message he tried to pass was also effective.

My Rating: 7/10 A moon attains completion on the day of full moon day and every husband attains it when he is with his family, wholeheartedly.

There was about 25% occupancy in Sree Padmanabha Theatre, Punalur for matinée, 7/5/2015.

Thank You _Sooraj

Vintage Dileep is back............
sreeram-srg8 July 2015
It"s a pleasure to watch Janapriya nayakan Dileep in a good movie after a long time.Storyline is very simple but entertaining.Chandara Mohan(Dileep) is a government servant and a classical dance follower.Sushama (Anu sree Nair) his wife and they have a sun too. When Geethanjali(Namitha Pramod) arrives in Chandra mohan"s life and his life changes, that forms the rest of the story.Dileep is excellent as Chandra Mohan with well timed performance.Anusree is excellent as a typical kerala wife.Namita Pramod also a treat to watch.Rest of the cast done justice to their role. Background music and music by Prasanth Pillai is excellent especially song"Vasantha Mallike" .Beautiful frames of Shyju Khalid provides visual treat for viewers.Direction by Sidharth Bharathan is adequate.Santhosh Aechikkanam"s script is mixed with almost all things for a perfect family entertainer.

My Rating:6/10 Verdict:Well executed Family-comedy drama

Splendid script with classic direction!!

Warning: Spoilers
Classic script work and direction. Bitalks of comedy lines are really spectacular. A real icebreaker. I was watching this with a lot of personal pressure in mind and broke laugh a bunch. Awesome bi-talks which lead me blind smiles and sometimes roaring laugh. Pranks are through expressions and small, bi-talks. Innovative and technical script work, with a lot of impressions on family and disbelief's in Indian religious rituals and plenty of euphemisms referring to layman's lives. Good research was done to describe the notches of classic dance, Thanjavoor astrology, Governmental affairs, Contemporaneity aggressive nature of children and geography of trivandrum. At the same time a lot skipped for avoiding the duration technically.

Old wine in a fresh bottle

Chandrettan evideya has a typical pati patni aur woh concept but siddharth bharathan presented it in a very fresh way. Dileep performed naturally after a long time. Only situational humor is there. Music and cinematography is another highlight. But after the film ends one feels confused regarding namitha pramod's character. One can't understand whether she liked chandran or was just using him. But thats not a big issue to enjoy this simple and fresh entertainer. Siddharth bharathan is a director to watch.
