Andy Cohen, who helped develop Bravo’s massively successful Real Housewives franchise, is opening up about how the show’s concept came to be and what he finds aspirational about it all.
In an interview with The New Yorker, published online Sunday, the Watch What Happens Live host said he views the way women are portrayed on Housewives as a “great feminist tableau.”
The reality series, with 10 shows executive produced by Cohen in the United States and even more globally, follows some of the most affluent women across the country as they live luxurious lifestyles.
“There’s no show that has given a platform for women over 50 in this way, in terms of expressing their sexuality and who they are and starting over in life and figuring things out,” Cohen said. “And I think that’s brilliant.”

More than 10 years ago, Hurricane Sandy wiped away 70 billion-worth bonds when an underground vault owned by Depository Trust & Clearing Corporation was flooded, with no trace as to where they went. Two years later, writer-producer Eric Garcia separately formulated an idea for a series that could be viewed in randomized order, he wrote in an email at the time to a director friend of his. These two disparate strands would eventually come together to unlock “Kaleidoscope,” Netflix’s nonlinear heist show starring Giancarlo Esposito as the mastermind behind a high-stakes vault robbery.
“I said, ‘I don’t think we need to watch shows in order, necessarily, and I don’t know how this is going to work out, but I have this one-page concept of what to do,’” Garcia, who created the show, recalled in an interview with TheWrap. “And over time, when I started exploring it, we started bringing them...

Spoiler alert: The following article discusses the entirety of Netflix’s “Kaleidoscope.”
In “Kaleidoscope,” Netflix’s trippy caper series and first-of-its-kind watching experience where viewers can follow heists, betrayals and secrets as they unfurl in a randomized order, one man — Giancarlo Esposito’s Ray Vernon (alias: Leo Pap) — goes to unforeseen lengths to pull off a decades-long-gestating, career-defining robbery. As he goes against corporate security titan and friend-turned-foe Roger Salas, Leo runs afoul of the FBI, the uber-wealthy and equally shady figures known as the Triplets and his own daughter Hannah (Tati Gabrielle), who warns of the effects of all-consuming vengeance.
While the show is designed to view in any order, served to the audience member according to Netflix’s algorithms, “Kaleidoscope” is bookended by episodes “Black” — a one-minute introduction to the experience — and “White” — the series’ version of a finale, depicting the actual heist and meant to be saved for last.

After six seasons in Litchfield Penitentiary, Taylor Schilling is branching out into a new genre. The actress, who starred as Piper Kerman on Netflix’s long-running hit, “Orange Is the New Black,” has finished her first post “Orange” project, and it’s a chilling one. Schilling will star in “The Prodigy,” a new horror movie about a possessed child with a script by Jeff Buhler, who penned the forthcoming remake of “Pet Sematary,” the novel by Stephen King. “The Prodigy” is produced by Tripp Vinson (“The Exorcism of Emily Rose”) and directed by Nicholas McCarthy (“At the Devil’s Door”).
The most exciting pairing of the project, however, is Schilling’s co-star, young Jackson Robert Scott, who played Georgie Denborough in last year’s hit Stephen King adaptation, “It.” Scott plays Schilling’s son, Miles, who is possessed by some sort of demon spirit.

Nineteen years ago, “Ally McBeal” made Emmy history as the first hour-long show to win Best Comedy Series. A door had been kicked down, it was the dawn of a new era… except it wasn’t. “Ally McBeal,” which was never nominated again for its final three seasons, remains the only one-hour Best Comedy Series champ. But it could finally have some company this year thanks to “The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel.”
In the absence of “Veep,” “Mrs. Maisel” is currently in second place in our Emmy odds behind “Atlanta.” Coming off a strong awards run with wins at the Golden Globes, Critics’ Choice and Producers Guild Awards earlier this year, it has four Experts and five Editors picking it to take home the Emmy. Its eight-episode first season would make it the second shortest season to win Best Comedy Series after “The Wonder Years,” but you can argue that it...
