Marlott reads Mary Shelley's 'Frankenstein' with its reference to stitched up corpses being revived by galvanization but she is unable to help his investigation. He also learns that Flora is pregnant and places her in a charitable hospital run by Sir Daniel Harvey, a disillusioned former medic, a critic of Chester and brother of the religious Lady Jemima. Pritty is apprehended trying to leave London and agrees to lead Marlott to the murderers through a dark tunnel.
