An interesting series based on magical girl anime
bhermann-406083 June 2020
Warning: Spoilers
This series, clearly influenced by anime, is a fun and nice series which is generally carefree, playing off the trope of brainless villains (Mephisto and Praxina who are the minions of Gramorr) and a focus on magical girls, especially in Season 1. Still, it does have themes of acceptance, friendship, romance, and more, interweaved within the show itself. The show centers around three characters who are magical princesses and singers in a band named Lolirock: Talia, Auriana, and Iris, with Amaru, their magical being who can turn into their steed. Emaru can also summon the arena which seems to resemble the area where Utena fights her foes in the series, Revolutionary Girl Utena, especially due to the fact that it is completely manufactured. The end of the first season raises the stakes of the show, as three new characters, apart from Talia's sister Izira are introduced, one thief named Lev and two princesses named Lyna and Carissa. Unfortunately, although the stakes are raised in the next season, these characters are seriously underutilized, with the ground laid for a third season. The latter is unlikely at this point as the second season ended in 2017.

Wonderful magical girl show
ambercahill-8634215 August 2020
This is an enjoyable western style magical girl show. I enjoyed the character design and music. It does have its flaws mostly due to a low budget. But overall it's a good show and is interesting enough to make you want to keep watching.

Wonderful tribute to the "magic girl" genre
ja_kitty_7118 September 2016
I thought "LoliRock" and "Winx Club" were wonderful tributes to the "magic girl" genre in anime series. I came across this series on Netflix, and after watching the first season, I love it!

As far as I know about the story, it goes: while singing for an audition for the pop band with the same name as the series' title, young Iris found out she's a long-lost princess from the crystal-themed dimension called Ephedia. The two judges (who are also princesses from that world) Talia and Auriana had been looking for her, to have her join their band of magical warriors fighting against the evil sorcerer Gramorr who dominates Ephedia. Besides battling Gramorr, the three princesses must collect "oracle gems" from the Royal Crown of Ephedia, while their band becomes famous throughout the city they protect.

So anyway, as I said, I love this series with its story and stunning animation.

Amazing show that all kids can enjoy!

The entire show fits perfectly with the "magic girl" genre but they spice it up with surprisingly good music and interesting plot lines. Each episode is pretty unique and the quality of the show is quite high. I hope season 3 comes out soon!!!

SOMETHING TO WATCH IF YOU LIKE WINX CLUB AND W.I.T.C.H
notypewendi28 August 2020
As a person who loves magical girl shows with transformations. I was skeptical of this show but then I started watching it and instantly fell in love with it. It's perfect for all ages. Yes it's a bit repetitive but the story lines take away from that and the more episodes you watch the more intrigued you would be with the story. Iv'e been waiting for the 3rd season for a while now and they still want to make it if only the first and second season would get more views.Trust me when I say you would love this show.

Definitely recommend it!

If you love magical girl animes, then this show is for you! It has an amazing storyline! It is made for a younger audience, but anyone can enjoy it! The show may seem a little formulaic at times, but it definitely pays off by the season finales. Also, the music is really good and there is great character development!

One of the best magical girl shows I've ever watched
dothelolistep20 August 2020
Warning: Spoilers
Although I'm older than the show's target audience, I absolutely adore the show. So much so, that it has become one of - if not my favourite - cartoon.

I thoroughly enjoyed the story/plot; getting to explore the girl's powers, their characters and backstories, as well as learning about Ephedia with Iris, was always a joy. I also loved all the episodes in between the significant/special ones. It was fun just to see the girls bonding and goofing around together, as well as Mephisto and Praxina trying to win. Not to mention Lolirock's music (which I sing along with every time).

(Heavy spoilers ahead!)

I usually don't tend to like protagonists, but Iris is (in my opinion) an amazing protagonist. The show shows us how she feels it is her duty to help other people, while also showing us how she's conflicted by wanting to have things for herself (like her time with Nathaniel). Being kind-hearted, for most of the series she puts others before herself (putting all her efforts into solving their problems) and also wanting to keep Nathaniel happy - which, in some episodes, is shown to take a toll on her. Some examples of this are when Iris objects to Nathaniel's request to be his girlfriend; she puts her Ephedian duties before her happiness. Or in Princess Brenda Part 1 and 2, where she also does the same thing. In this episode, however, the strain of keeping Nathaniel happy and putting the needs of others first is more evident (through the pathetic fallacy at the beginning of part one and the dialogue...)

Iris is a super-heroine who fights for a planet that she may not have even considered her true home.

I also hold a great love for Talia and Auriana, whose own struggles are shown throughout the show. Talia who, from an incredibly young age, had to deal with the death of her family whilst training all those years to become the incredible magician she is today. It seemed to me that, in the episode Xeris, she put all those emotions away to and finally cracked when she lost the only link to her family. Showing how much they meant to her. It was wonderful to see her find hope in Lolirock and discovering that her sister was alive.

Then Auriana, whose family had been taken away, stayed strong by always being an optimist. In the episode Desert Heat, she finally sees her brother again but immediately loses him again. The toll of this on her is shown but seeing he's safe cheers her up.

The transformation sequences are fabulous, I love the girls so much - I really wish there was a season 3. The show was taking such a great turn; making Praxina the new, main antagonist - showing that there is more to a person's character than just 'good' and 'evil' through her. It would be amazing to see that new plot progress. I would've also loved to explore Ephedia more, since the show didn't explore it very much (if at all). Spending more time with Lyna and Carissa, Aunt Ellen (now that they know her true identity), Iris and Nathaniel's relationship, new songs, new powers, seeing what the girls get up to and what they'll have to face - all things I'd love to see in a season 3!

Lolirock show is severely underrated in my opinion; it's a hidden gem. I enjoyed it so much and I adore the girls, and I think you'll enjoy it too. Lolirock holds a special place in my heart next to cartoons like SPOP and Winx Club, and I hope to see more of it in the future.

Cute, catchy and surprisingly decent plot!
mandytrimm19 August 2020
I loved the first two seasons and so did my nieces (5 and 8) The art style was cute and bright, the music was really catchy to a point I'd find myself humming along while cleaning house, and the overall plot was surprisingly good! I went in expecting something for a five year old with little plot and characters with no personality and actually found myself watching it even without my nieces when I discovered it had both. I'm glad I gave this a shot and it's not annoying like some shows my nieces watch over and over and... though you do need to keep in mind it's for kids and if you can't stand shows like My Little Pony or Equestria Girls you most likely will not enjoy the silliness or voices in it.

Anyone who enjoyed My Little Pony will enjoy the familiar voice casting of two of it's main characters (two of my favourites actually) and I urge people to find the show and really give it a chance. It's better than you'd think and not nearly as annoying as some other shows out there! My nieces like to dance to the music and want to dress up with the little concerts at the end of each episode. Would be cool for a little doll and costume line to come out in the future. (Hey Mattel, get on it.) I know I'll have to buy the girls little toy microphones this Christmas now at the very least.

I did see a couple complaints online of a character using the word hell ("Hell yeah!", specifically) once out of two entire seasons (Okay Karens hakuna your tatas. Your delicate flower has and will hear far worse at home from your own mouth.) and honestly I completely missed that myself if not for reading the comments on a random reddit post on a search to find out why it disappeared off Netflix. I know my nieces totally missed it because they love to copy anything they hear.

I genuinely found nothing to fault the show except that (and, again, keeping in mind it's created for kids) the villains are made rather painfully dumb albeit charming little oddballs. (Think Jesse and James in Pokemon.) And the animation is a little... twitchy (for lack of a better word) at times but the visual details put into every scene completely make up for it.

Overall, great show! My nieces loved it. I loved it (and I'm not a fan of musicals or shows based around music). We're looking forward to a Season 3 and I'm hoping for a toy line for my nieces similar to Monster High and Ever After High (their other favourites after MLP).

Preety Good Show. Has some potential to be one
bluepearl-193865 October 2020
To be honest, this show has top notch quality.. I'm a guy that sometimes gets picky whenever comes to an anime or cartoon shows.. And if I don't like it. I'm leaving it as a not-so worth to watch and I'll stop watching it.. But this one passed my standards. This show should continue moving to Season 3 tbh and I'm really waiting.. And also this show belongs to my Top list that I've actually done watching between Steven universe and Svtfoe.

And if you have noting to watch anymore. Watch this. 11/10

And guess what. This show has a hint of sailor moon and some tiny Steven universe taste to me (cuz loving each other and not break apart, and iris at the beginning of the season reminds me of Steven yet to learn himself to learn to use powers) and also you can watch it on their official YouTube channel if you don't have money to buy Netflix subscription because of the Chaos 2020 happening here.

And further more that the characters has some different clothing designs every episode which is surprising unlike other cartoon or anime shows which same outfit...

And finally they have some good songs but I'm not blend into it.. Sure it does bring the show in rythm but I'm more of an old music listener from the 80s (this line is just my opinion peeps) but their song something about the first ending of the episode is kind of stuck in my head and their intro not gonna lie there unlike my other europop favorites.. But still good show and music

RLLY HIGH QUALITY SHOW
crystalwaterbottle23 October 2020
As someone who watched this in their teen years I enjoyed it a lot and still do today! The overarching story line and plot is so captivating and gripping that it had me engaged for the whole two seasons I would love love love to see more, a season three is very needed especially with the cliff hanger they left us on, I love this show so much and it is so much more unique than other magical girl cartoons I've seen and the details and backstory make the show my favourite easily

AN AWESOME SHOW TO WATCH
shitfk23 October 2020
Where I saw this show I was instantly hooked and I loved the concept of it, it definitely deserves a season three and the episodes were very very entertaining, they paid a lot of attention to details and backstories and the plot line was super interesting and I was focused on it the entire time, not to mention how good the songs are, the transformation sequences are super unique and pretty compared to most magical girl cartoons I've seen, the way the fight scenes are planned out are also very detailed and not boring at all, what makes the show interesting is the ups and downs it goes through, the main characters don't just win every battle, they struggle and sometimes fail and lose the battle but that was what made it entertaining and what kept me focused on it, the different enemies in each episode made them even better, they were all unique and like none other I've seen. Overall great great show and my favourite cartoon/show ever for sure really hope it gets a season three cause it is very well deserved

Awesome Show!
mariopipe-1245415 December 2020
I love Lolirock! The music is super catchy and I love hearing it at the end of every episode. The animation is super cool and I love the magical girl transformations! The writing is really good and although it slightly follows a formula it's consistent and I like that about the show. The ending of season 2 left off on such a huge cliffhanger! I would really love to know what happens next and I hope there will be a season 3.

I love this show form the bottom of my heart!
xxilovecatsandcowsxx10 June 2021
I watched this show front to back when I found it on Netflix the first time. I know it's for kids but my 15 year old self was in love with the complex storyline and characters. I can't believe we haven't seen a season three yet and I'm even more disappointed that it's not on Netflix anymore. I hope it comes back soon!

Offsetting some negotiable reviews based on cultural differences and misunderstandings
duckyperson9 June 2021
Mainly writing this review because it is a good show, deserves more seasons and am trying to offset some people's negativity toward an entire show for one line. This line is a culturally different in France and American for if it is a curse word of not so it feels wrong to have an entire series reviewed so lowly because of it. The characters are diverse and it is very entertaining. Recommend if you grew up with Winx club or are interested in those sorts of shows.

A great show with good animation and a interesting plot
henryggruning9 January 2021
This show is definitely on the good side of western magical girl shows. I really love the plot and the animations. They also get new outfits every episode, and every episode has something to cling onto! Yes, there was an episode where Talya said "HEll yeah" and someone complained about it but I don't find "Hell yeah" to be something offensive, it's something everyone says nowdays.

Anyways definitely suggest watching and supporting the animators! WE WANT A SEASON 3
