Australian siblings and directing duo Colin and Cameron Cairnes have earned a following on the cult horror circuit with their first two features: the low-budget horror comedy 100 Bloody Acres (which won the Midnight X-treme award at the 2013 Sitges Film Festival) and 2016’s Scare Campaign, a gruesome twist on the slasher genre.

The Aacta Awards longlist for feature films was unveiled this morning, with 24 Australian features named.

The eligible films are A Few Less Men, A Month of Sundays, Beast, Boys in the Trees, Down Under, Early Winter, Embedded, Girl Asleep, Gods of Egypt, Goldstone, Hacksaw Ridge, Joe Cinque's Consolation, Looking for Grace, Pawno, Red Billabong, Scare Campaign, Spear, Spin Out, Spirit of the Game, Sucker, Tanna, The Daughter, The Menkoff Method and Wyrmwood: Road of the Dead.

That list will be winnowed down once voting begins after the official screenings program, with the nominees for the AACTAs to be announced in October.

The screenings program for AFI and Aacta members runs throughout August and September, and will open with a preview screening of A Few Less Men in Sydney on August 29 at Event Cinemas, Bondi Junction, and in Melbourne on August 30 at Cinema Nova.

UK distributor Metrodome has finalised six deals from the Efm in Berlin including André Téchiné- Celine Sciamma drama Being 17 and fantasy-romance Angel, both from Elle Driver for all UK and Irish distribution rights.

Téchiné directs the Berlin competition title Being 17, a project he co-wrote with Girlhood director Sciamma.

The French-language film follows the tense relationship between two boys whose lives intertwine until they unexpectedly find themselves living under the same roof.

Sandrine Kiberlain, Kacey Mottet Klein and Corentin Fila star. Producers are Marc Missonnier and Olivier Delbosc of Fidélité Films, co-producers are Wild Bunch and France 2 Cinema.
