Writer/director Patrick Mille decided the film would be set in Brazil before he came up with what it would be about.
Filming, which lasted about two months in summer 2015, was delayed by over a year.
The film was initially meant to be shot on 35mm film, but due to the difficulty and cost of getting and developing film in South America, the choice was made to go digital. Two cameras, the Red Dragon and the Arri Alexa XT Plus, were tested with the actresses in Paris, with Kowa and Cooke lenses. In the end, the Alexa was deemed to be more reliable and consistent than the Dragon, so it was chosen, along with the Cooke lenses.
