Sex & Nudity

  • A woman offers sexual services for money.
  • Frequent sexual comments, requests, and jokes are made throughout the film.
  • Frequent conversation regarding sexual activity and performance with John Shaft often referring to women as 'pussy' and various points it's implied that he's about to engage in sex with numerous women
  • Early on in the film a woman answers a door dressed in only a suit jacket and exposes her breasts by proxy of movement which is lingered upon for some time. After Shaft arrives and his parentage is revealed she gets the light back on her once more and says "I thought you pulled out on time, every time," referencing ejaculation.
  • A lot of cleavage is shown
  • Sexually explicit dialogue. Not super explicit but still very explicit.

Violence & Gore

  • A man is seen lying dead from a drug overdose.
  • Frequent gunfights. Moderate blood is shown.
  • A man has his hand broken as he is tortured for information.
  • There are many gun shootouts with blood and two violent hand to hand fight scenes.
  • Lots of fights and intense violence, but it's overshadowed by the comedy. This movie is more an action comedy than a brutal action thriller. Still, a little tame compared to the 2000 movie, but barely.

Profanity

  • 120 uses of "fuck", including uses of "damn", "shit", "hell", "bullshit" and uses of the word "nigga", Regina Hall's character has a profane rant at the very beginning of the film.
  • Incredibly frequent uses of swear words and offensive words.
  • A few uses of "Jesus" and "Christ" used once.
  • there are some Spanish profanities including one use of the word cunt
  • Lots of crude humor.
  • Cinemax content advisory: rated R for graphic violence (GV), graphic language (GL), and adult content (AC).

  • Several scenes show individuals partaking of drugs and experiencing the effects.
  • A man smokes a cigar

Frightening & Intense Scenes

  • Mild, bordering on moderate. This is an action-comedy, and while there are some intense scenes, this is more light-hearted compared to the 2000 movie.
