- Mike takes a methodical approach to his mission; someone questions Chuck's capabilities; Jimmy faces a personal dilemma.
- Mike intercepts one of Salamanca's operations. HHM's court hearing with Mesa Verde goes haywire when Chuck gets the address wrong. After the hearing, Chuck realizes that Jimmy was behind this. On the other hand, Mesa Verde goes back to Kim. Chuck presents his case against his brother to Kim but Kim doesn't want to accept that Jimmy would go this far and she defends him. Chuck is not satisfied and digs deeper into the whole story. However, Jimmy is smart enough to cover his steps.—Andreea D
- On a sunny desert road, the Salamanca drug truck is returning to Mexico, its driver (Manuel Uriza) jovially singing with his radio. Mike (Jonathan Banks), wearing a solid black outfit that hides even his race, yanks his homemade spike strip onto the road, causing the truck to blow its tires and stop. The driver gets out with a gun, but Mike gets the drop on him, then blindfolds and hogties him with duct tape. The driver freaks out at the sound of a power saw, thinking he's about to be horribly killed, but Mike is just cutting open the tires of the truck. He finds the drug money, takes it, and leaves.
Chuck (Michael McKean) dresses for his Mesa Verde construction submittal with the state banking board. Howard (Patrick Fabian) says his attendance isn't necessary, but Chuck assures him that he'll be fine. As they drive away from Chuck's house, Jimmy (Bob Odenkirk) watches them from behind a tree, then approaches the house, a sheaf of papers in hand.
After Chuck has some difficulty walking through the government building's metal detectors, he and Howard, and Kevin (Rex Linn) and Paige (Cara Pifko) of Mesa Verde, confidently pitch their construction submittal to the board. Everything seems to be going well, but then the board's staff notices a discrepancy over the site address -- is it 1216 or 1261 Rosella Dr.? Confused discussion ensues, with the final determination being 1261. The board says they researched the 1216 location, and it will take six weeks to try again. They deny Chuck's awkward, desperate request for a provisional permit, while he becomes increasingly distressed by the buzzing fluorescent lights in the ceiling. Kevin is furious with HHM's costly screwup.
Back in his house, now wrapped in a foil sheet, Chuck frantically examines the documents, and can't believe what he's seeing. Howard tells him he just made a mistake, but Chuck suddenly realizes what really happened.
Mike watches through his binoculars as Hector Salamanca (Mark Margolis) rants in his ice cream shop with his henchmen Nacho (Michael Mando) and Arturo (Vincent Fuentes). Then Mike goes to a bar and cheerfully buys a round for the house, to gratified applause.
Kim (Rhea Seehorn) and Jimmy are doing the manual labor of turning the former dentist's office into a law office. Kim gets a call from Mesa Verde; they want her back. She tells the great news to Jimmy, who acts pleasantly surprised. Then Kim gets a call from Chuck's aid, Ernie (Brandon K. Hampton), who tells her to come right over and get the Mesa Verde files. Kim and Jimmy go to Chuck's house together, and find that Jimmy's key no longer works. Ernie lets them in, explaining that the lock has been changed. While Jimmy feigns innocence, Chuck tells Kim all about the 1216 scam, and says Jimmy did it for her. To Chuck's dismay, Kim doesn't believe him, and instead lectures him about how he never believed in Jimmy or wanted Jimmy to succeed. She and Jimmy take the files and go -- but in the car, she punches Jimmy, making it clear she knows Chuck's story is true.
With his two camera guys (Josh Fadem and Julian Bonfiglio) and a make-up lady (Haley Holmes), Jimmy tries to film part of a TV commercial on the grounds of a school. Before they can complete, the principal (Roseanne Vau) and other staff (Wendy Scott and Deborah Chavez) approach and tell them to leave, but Jimmy makes up a story that he has the superintendent's permission to film a bio. As soon as the staff leave to go check his story, Jimmy's team finishes its work: an audacious view of Jimmy with a huge American flag filling the shot behind him.
Mike eats at a diner and chats-up the waitress, Fran (Debrianna Mansini). She seems receptive. Mike gets a call from Nacho, then goes to an unpopulated construction site to talk with him. Nacho knows that the truck robber was Mike, because anyone else would have killed the driver. Mike assures Nacho that no one else knows who it was, and the driver didn't see or hear anything, so Hector will never find out who did it. When Mike presses Nacho about why the robbery didn't make the news, Nacho realizes that the point of the robbery was to get Hector in trouble with the law. Nacho informs Mike that the police never even knew about it -- the "good samaritan" who found the tied-up driver was killed by Hector and buried in the desert.
Kim and Jimmy are going to bed. Kim mentions that Chuck is very smart, and there better not be anything for him to find. Spooked, Jimmy gets up and drives in the dark to the 24-hr copy shop were he did his 1216 trick. Lo and behold: there's Ernie talking to the night-shift employee, Lance (Elisha Yaffe). Jimmy parks his car out of sight, waits for Ernie to leave, then enters the store. He artfully offers Lance several hundred dollars to change his position (and to erase in-store surveillance video) -- Lance agrees. Jimmy goes back to surveilling from across the street, and sees Ernie and Chuck drive up and walk in. Lance now says he doesn't really recognize a photo of Jimmy, and that he just played along with Ernie before. Chuck is very frustrated at Lance's denials, and his implications that Chuck is bothering him and the other customers (Allie Sundstrom and Erika Erica). Ernie makes it worse by suggesting they leave. Becoming more and more agitated by his failing plan, Lance's threats to call the police, plus the humming lights and electronics all around him, Chuck finally passes out, whacking his head hard on the counter on the way down. He lies motionless on the floor; Ernie and Lance don't seem to know what to do. Jimmy, horrified, wishes out-loud he could tell them to call 911.
