This movie is just. One of the worst shark movies EVER
troyblancke21 December 2019
Warning: Spoilers
Let me go over to 5 points which is acting, CGI, camera work, editing and the ending Acting: it's so awkward it feels like they never spoke and this is the first time they actually speak to a human being. It actually makes The Room look like God's gift tbh Camera work: this is the best thing about the movie but it still falls flat. Some positions are so akward. Or maybe not it's been a while since I've seen this movie that I know is bloody terrible Editing: what the actual hell. The movie looks like a low budget Micheal Bay movie. Constant explosions, crazy "attack" scenes, always thinking America is the only country etc. CGI: holy Elizabeth Alexandra Mary Windsor the CGI looks like sombody put 2 terrible things put together make it something beautiful then set it in a concentration camp and then drag it out beat it and voila that's the CGI in a nutshell it's actually hurting my eyes the shark looks so DUMB. Ending: so they defeat the "shark" and then when the overused kiss the lover something something. Yeah. So they walk away into the sunset. And this rich lady seen everything happen. Looks like she does not give a ***t and her Chiwawa is now possessed by the same virus on robo shark. Whaaaaaaaaaat?! We gonna wait for robo Chiwawa now?! Oh yeah that will be perfect!

I quit

SyFy Attempts Too Many Campy Shark Movies
dragonroars-5781217 September 2015
Right away I knew that when you cast, Nigel Barber (Attack of the Killer Tomatoes!) into any movie, you are shooting for another campy movie success. What SyFy does lately is push out this camp more than ever. What SyFy failed to remember is what really made "Attack of the Killer Tomatoes! (1978)" successful... Elvia (Cassandra Peterson) who hosted the movie on her late night TV show back in the day.

No one is going to sit and yuck it up at those movies without some late night horror host rifting on it. We watched the campy movies because of Elvira's "Movie Macabre", Joel Hodgson's "Mystery Science Theater 3000", Count Gore de Vol, or Karlos Borloff. This made the campy horror sci-fi movie watchable.

SyFy needs STOP cranking out the camp. They use to have a lot better programming on in the late 1990s. Remember series like Farscape, The Invisible Man, Battlestar Galactica, Good vs. Evil, and Eureka? Their movies were also about space and fantasy. Every now and then SyFy network CEO comes along with a new bright idea and we get only the one flavor. The network has these bad phases. Let's do nothing but ghost busting reality TV! Oh great idea...

This movie is the product of a company who thinks, if one campy shark movie is deemed a success, more will be a gold rush.

Porn has better acting
meldahlb18 July 2015
Worst movie I have seen.... Omg porn movies have better acting and story line. Don't waste your time with this or you will be wishing you had those minutes back in your life. Poor graphics, acting, story line...what more can I add... Nothing that's the whole movie.

1 scene where the military enters the mall to shoot roboshark they ALL stop and the store locator at the center of the mall like they are searching for some special store.... Let's see there is a metal shark swimming around the mall, maybe they should go where the people are fleeing from.

You could use this movie as a teaching tool on what not to do....

I wish I could give this a minus score but 1/10 will have to do
Stevieboy66620 September 2018
A metallic sphere from space is swallowed by a shark, which then turns into evil Roboshark & proceeds to wreck havoc on Seattle. Everything about this dross is bad. Perhaps the only thing that I liked was a co ordinate given as THX1138, an obvious nod to the sci fi film from the 1970's. This movie is very tongue in cheek, with one character saying events are "starting to look like one of those Sci Fi movies". Only this is probably the worst of the lot. And thats saying something! In an early scene a mother asks her husband, referring to her daughter & her mobile phone, " why does she waste her time watching this nonsense?". Why indeed am I watching this nonsense!!?? Don't make the same mistake.

Not Nearly As Smart As It Thinks It Is

Roboshark (2015)

* (out of 4)

A UFO drops an object into the ocean, which is eaten by a great white shark. Soon the shark turns into the title creature and goes on a killing spree in Seattle, Washington.

ROBOSHARK thinks it's a lot better than the countless other killer/mutant shark movies that have been shown on SyFy or gone straight to the Redbox. This one here likes to think its in on the joke and the dialogue here has a lot of so-called wit throwing jokes at SyFy and other shark movies. The problem is that this film is just downright annoying from start to finish and it doesn't contain a single spark of energy.

There are a lot of issues with this film but we can start with the main story, which has a reporter, her cameraman and her daughter running around constantly trying to get the scoop on the shark. This here leads to a social media storm and several fights with another reporter trying to get the same stuff. All of this was rather annoying and it certainly didn't make you want to like the characters. This is meant for some tongue in cheek action so I won't bash the film for not being scary or anything like that.

The performances, for the most part, are decent enough but we're really not here for that, are we? The death scenes are all bland and bloodless and I'd argue that the CGI shark looks okay considering what this movie is. Still, ROBOSHARK is just a flat out boring movie that can be skipped.

While a long way from great, not bad as far as SyFy shark movies go
TheLittleSongbird7 August 2015
The good news is that of the SyFy shark movies, Roboshark is one of the better ones, and among the more tolerable SyFy outings. The not so good news is that that doesn't stop Roboshark from not being particularly good or great.

Roboshark is one of SyFy's least amateurish-looking movies, with nice scenery, slicker-than-usual photography and a design for the Roboshark that has some menace and is one of SyFy's cooler- and- less-cheap- looking. The Roboshark is also well-utilised and unlike a lot of SyFy creatures has a personality, a threatening one rather than being too goofy that it brings unintentional humour. The movie clearly knows what it's trying to be and which audience it's aiming for, and in the process doesn't try to do too much while not playing it too safe either, and contains some clever inside jokes and hilarious one-liners. There are also fun performances from Laura Dale and particularly Nigel Barber, the only ones in the cast who show that they can still have fun without overacting, as well as some spirited and confident direction.

On the other hand, the rest of the cast wildly overact and in the case of the extras and Matt Rippy to an embarrassing degree, something that really hurts the tension. The characters are barely developed and some are annoying, which makes them difficult to root for, the movie drags a little in the exposition moments and some of the more dramatic parts veer on turgid and ham-fisted. The story is well-intentioned and clearly knows what its aim and audience is, but the silliness gets very over-the-top sometimes that it gets ridiculous (like with the bacon) which gets in the way of generating suspense or tension, and it gets tiring towards the end. Aside from a catchy opening, the movie is generically scored too with not an awful lot standing out as memorable, and while the opening is fun and quite scary the climax of the movie is predictable and rushed..

All in all, not great but one of the better and more tolerable SyFy shark movies. A decent guilty pleasure-type movie if you will. 5/10 Bethany Cox

Roboshark
jboothmillard18 August 2019
Warning: Spoilers
I'd seen the Jaws sequels, Sharknado, Mega Shark, The Meg, and the "Baby Shark" music video (annoyingly catchy). Well, then I found this bad shark movie, made for TV, to sink my teeth into. Basically, an alien ship comes into earth orbit to drop a probe. The probe lands in the ocean, only to be eaten by a Great White. The alien technology inside the probe transforms the shark into a mechanical alien robotic monster, it has now become Roboshark. After devouring a nuclear submarine and its crew nearby, Roboshark heads to Seattle to wreak havoc. Soon enough, the actions of Roboshark are being filmed and tweeted about all over the world. With the devastation going viral, reporter Trish (Alexis Peterman), who is usually a weather girl, along with her crew is urging to be first on the scene to capture and stop the destruction. Trish's cowardly husband Rick (Matt Rippy) is dragged into the chaos by Admiral Black (Nigel Barber), who is determined to stop Roboshark at any cost, even if it means destroying the city. But Trish and Rick's daughter Melody (Vanessa Grasse), an avid social media user, realises that Roboshark is active on social media, they use its communications to keep track of it. It all concludes at Seattle's most famous landmark, the Space Needle observation tower. In the end, the tower is almost destroyed, but Roboshark is defeated, and Trish, Melody and Rick are reunited, but the alien technology may still be present, as a little dog may have been transformed. Also starring Isaac Haig as Louie, Laura Dale as Veronica Viola, Vlado Mihailov as Erik, Derek Morse as Chief Xavier, Kicker Robinson as Commander Sumner and Steve Sires as Bill Glates (a spoof Bil Gates character). There's not much to say, the acting is naff, especially Rippy as the irritatingly over-the-top wimp, the story is absolutely ridiculous, and the special effects are excruciating, it may make you titter at how bad it is, but I wouldn't bother with it again, a terrible science-fiction comedy horror. Poor!

When robotic sharks emerge in a shopping mall you might just have seen it all...
paul_haakonsen24 September 2016
Naturally the title of this movie indicates exactly what you will be in for; another one of those low budget and very off key Sci-Fi movies that just raises so many questions. The main question is why did this even get turned into an actual movie.

The storyline is about a shark that bites into an UFO vessel, and it is transformed into a robotic killer shark. Unstoppable both physically and in its hunger, Roboshark goes on a killing frenzy which makes both land and waters unsafe.

Right, well there was no plausible direction to the storyline, especially given the circumstances of how ludicrous it was. But still, it is one of those bad Sci-Fi movies that you just have to watch because it is so bad.

The effects in "Roboshark" were hilarious. And by hilarious I mean that they were so poor and bad that it was actually fun to witness. And it still amazes me that it is possible to make movies now a days with effects so poor.

As for the acting in the movie, well it was pretty much as to be expected. It is one of those questionable Sci-Fi movies after all, so you know what you are in for prior to sitting down and watching "Roboshark".

While there are a heap of movies like this, and some are actually enjoyable because they are so campy and cheesy, then "Roboshark" didn't fall into that category. "Roboshark" wasn't really worth spending an hour and thirty minutes on.

My final rating for "Roboshark" sinks to a mere two out of ten stars. If you enjoy these types of campy monster flicks, low budget Sci-Fi movies, then there are far better choices out there.

One of the best
fenwickoliver13 April 2019
This is genuinely one of the best films I have ever watched. It has superb acting and the effects are another level. You would think the movie was made in 2050, and the shark looks completely real. I do not use this phrase often but this film was robbed of an Oscar. It truly is a masterpiece.

Why?
khufu-1141212 September 2015
I understand actors need to earn a living, but their choices of media can sometimes serve to limit their futures. The actors appearing in this not even laughably bad video, in the words of the last Crusader, have all "chosen poorly." This is pure dreck, with only porky performances, poor effects and a tired story line ("we're gonna need a bigger bang"). This work can only be a financial play for some well-heeled backer wanting a tax break, but for all associated it is an utter embarrassment. So many of these direct to TV (not even video) movies keep appearing that makes one wonder if they're on to something, and this can provide an outlet for the welter of talent that's out there. It offends the audience, however, to squander the available talent and take so many struggling actors for granted by barely even pretending to turn in something better than execrable. Don't waste your time on this total disaster.

Wow this is one of the worst movies I've ever 'started' to watch! Couldn't get past the first 30 minutes. I thought Highlander 2 was bad but this movie tops it for bad/cheesy/corny acting, plot, and effects.

The worst movie I have ever seen (really).
tlm55719 June 2016
Very bad actors, as if no one in this has any experience at all. Very bad "jokes". They seem like they are supposed to be jokes but they are not funny. Very bad editing and lots of obvious mistakes. One guy tells a group in his office to take care of something. A few seconds later, he calls that same group and tells them to do the same thing again. Lots of lame dialog and bad references to other movies. Of the entire movie, there was really only one moment that I thought was even a little bit funny - and that was the way they did the effect on the strings of a guy's hoodie. Very bad special effects. I've seen many movies from the 1950's and 1960's with much better effects.

Most ridiculously put together spoof I've ever seen!!
jayne-0969524 August 2018
This film makes a mockery of spoofs as we know them. The acting was so poor. The idea, the concept would make a great thriller if it was done on a decent budget with a star cast I mean an alien shark hybrid terrorising California or the east coast, has prospects. However this movie.......Wash out!!!!!

Enough words for this to qualify, that's all my goal is
jessegehrig5 September 2015
Dear IMDb, I saw this movie. I was told this was a comedy through the voices of actors playing the roles of characters, is that breaking the fourth wall? Yeah, it was not a comedy, by the way. Why does stuff happen? Is there some deeper mechanism behind our day to day decisions or is there no such thing as conscious thought? This movie is about a city where some people live, but when the Roboshark shows up, less and less people live in the city until the movie's end. People will do that. Uh, this movie Okay, what do you want to know? Do you want to know some trivia? Do you want to know who is in this movie? Do you want to know my opinion or are you just being polite?

Particularly stupid
Leofwine_draca21 April 2018
Warning: Spoilers
ROBOSHARK is a particularly stupid monster flick from the SyFy Channel, with a premise so idiotic that the director has no choice but to make this an all-out comedy. Unfortunately, it's completely unfunny, so much so that it's difficult to sit through. A shark eats a UFO (!) and transforms into the titular menace while the military run around and try to figure out a way to stop it. The whole film is full of mannered, over the top line delivery and the dialogue really is the pits, trying to be hip with modern society references and even a little self-referencing but failing in the attempt. Needless to say, the CGI effects are among the worst you'll see.

Worst shark movie ever, but funny social commentary.
suite9227 September 2016
Warning: Spoilers
The Three Acts:

The initial tableaux: A UFO targets Earth and send a probe into the Pacific Ocean. Next, we see a shark gulping the probe whole. The shark takes out a USN nuclear submarine with 168 personnel.

The US Navy decides to make its stand in Seattle. Weatherwoman Trish, husband Rick (who works the city's water/sewer system), and daughter Melody prepare for a 'normal' day, but it is not to be. Trish sees the shark take out a coffee stand, and Rick monitors multiple problems in the sewer system. Later Melody swings back into the scene to help Trish and Louie.

Delineation of conflicts: Roboshark seems intent on damaging Seattle. Admiral Black wants this threat to national security dealt with by whatever means necessary. Trish wants a big story so she can get a promotion. Melody wants to help her mother using her Internet savvy. The parents want Melody to go to safety.

Resolution: Will anyone of the central characters figure out the intentions of the Roboshark? If so can they communicate successfully before Seattle is destroyed or the Navy uses tactical nukes on Roboshark?

Not Worth it
p-hoffmann199223 March 2021
This movie is just so bad, on so many levels. It's not even so stupid, that it's funny. The only appealing thing about it is the destruction and dismemberment caused by the shark, hence the 2 star rating.

An Exceptionally Entertaining SyFy Offering - A GEM!
dianerpessler-4616423 July 2015
From the thundering opening scenes to the shattering climax staged incredibly on the Space Needle, this will grab you and not let go. Brilliantly clever and delightfully self-aware SyFy production that is nothing less than breathlessly exciting and uproariously funny. The hilarity is as non-stop as the thrills when a shark bites into an alien entity and becomes the expression the alien itself. Taking on the essential being of the alien, roboshark emerges and threatens to destroy Seattle. A superb script and inspired direction makes this one of the SyFy channel's most spectacular "creature features." Surprises abound and none will be spoiled here (but a fabulous performance by Steve Sires as a famous personality is utterly stunning.) Nigel Barber will have audiences on the floor in the role of The Admiral. The special effects are the usual SyFy brand of awful but are absolutely perfect for this particular exercise in satire and offbeat humor. It's hard to believe that Sharknado achieved cult status when something this wonderful seems to have been missed! Do not miss the ending sequence on the Space Needle itself!

It Knows What It Is And Kind Of Delivers The Shark Schlock
By-TorX-12 August 2018
Warning: Spoilers
Like most of the crazy shark movies in this now bizarrely sizable sub-genre, Roboshark is a concept searching the seas for a plot to justify its existence. So, from a hasty robotising of an innocent Great White, we quickly get to the shark rampage, with our robot fish effortlessly destroying a nuclear submarine before turning it's teeth on Seattle. The various human characters just tend to turn up and stare (although Matt Rippy and Nigel Barber just go for it and have fun with their roles). As said, the plot of the film really makes no sense as the Roboshark generally just causes mayhem and eats humans aplenty (and destroys sewage plants), but then suddenly goes all E.T. (quite literally) and bonds with young Melody via her social media account, who then implores the military to lay off their attacks because her new mechanical friend is, well, friendly. As the film liberally cites other movies (Dr Strangelove, Close Encounters, E.T. and Sharknado), nothing is very serious, but that still leaves the issue of a film that really makes little sense beyond its alien-created-killer-shark-running-amok concept (with a little social media addiction commentary thrown in, but if you are going to use onscreen messaging gimmicks, you need to make the messages a little more legible for the viewers). As such, the silliness and static quality of some scenes can become tiresome at times, and the issue of rival broadcast journalists fighting for the Roboshark scoop is not exactly thrilling. Finally, that the narrative is not always magnetic is perhaps evident in the times when I found my mind wandering to unanswered questions that the film raises: Given that the Roboshark eats a number of people, what happens to them? As the Roboshark is a robot, one would presume that there is no digestive activity going on, so are the victims always inside the shark? If so, are they still alive? If not, is there a limit to how many people the Roboshark can eat since the bodies will just clog up the machinery at some stage? If it is a robot, why does it eat people in the first place? Or is it a cyborg shark, thus retaining some organic material and functions? I really want the answers to these mysteries!

Comedy has some sanctity and this movie destroyed it.
ganeshintell19 February 2023
One can make a better story and performances with a toy shark in a baby pool.

Navy Admiral in the movie is a psychopath who wants to bomb a school.

Male lead actor seems partly insane in his real life too. He is better off in his toilet than to have dialogues.

Female lead actor needs acting classes at primary school.

Competitor reporter Veronica gets crushed by the Seattle tower and her co workers watch with their hands in pocket how she dies.

The Girl named melody talks to the shark using emojis from her phone and the shark replies too.

Bill Gates the software tycoon in this movie is playing with a toy drone to lure the shark and gets eaten. His staff watch from the side as if he has gone for a swim in a pool.

Director of the movie has to be an alien himself.

I wonder if authorities in the movie are planning to use nuclear bomb on a wild insane shark on a loose, what weapon they would use for situations like Covid!!

Roboshark is a comedy horror film in 2015.

It tells the story of a shark that accidentally eats a stone from outer space, it turns out to belong to an alien from another planet, it turns into a roboshark, in another place a woman who works as a reporter, helped by a daughter and the cameraman, they started hunting roboshark.

This movie is ridiculous, weird, and has a lot of very annoying characters plus very bad acting ...

Making this movie really bad.
