Ghost hunters will find more than they bargained for on Halloween in upcoming genre-bender The Unearthly. Per Deadline, the indie sci-fi horror comedy has found its lead in star and producer Patrick Warburton.
Josh Sternfeld (Fortress: Sniper’s Eye) is set to direct The Unearthly for Centerboro Productions, with production scheduled to begin early this year in Connecticut.
In The Unearthly, “a team of paranormal investigators live-stream a ‘Halloween Special’ ghost hunt of a notorious haunted mansion, finding the source of the evil at hand to be far more deadly than they ever could have imagined. Warburton plays Tank McCrary, an old school paranormal investigator in the style of Ed Warren and Peter James, who hosted over 20 live television specials in the ’90s before an incident ruined his career. Stubborn and egotistical, he likes to do things his way. He doesn’t trust technology, relying on his analog tape recorder,...

Christmas movies usually bring that holiday cheer that makes us feel warm and comforting starting at the tail end of November all the way up to the 25th of December. Sitting on a couch, drinking some nice hot coco, next to your lit-up Christmas tree is a moment many of us look forward to yearly. Now let’s talk Christmas films that are etched in holiday cinema history. Sure, we have our Home Alone(s), our Grinch Stole Christmas, our Die Hard(s), even that looney, turbo-time, toy chaser, Jingle All the Way with Arnold Schwarzenegger. Sure, they’re all Christmas Staples, but what about mixing it up and popping in a psychological Christmas film of yule-tide terror?...

Since its launch in 2019, a pillar of Disney+ has been revisiting and building upon stories from across the Walt Disney Company's brands. Whether that's traveling deeper into a galaxy far, far away with new "Star Wars" shows, uncovering uncharted corners of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, or catching up with fan-favorite characters from beloved shows and movies like "The Santa Clause," "Night at the Museum," or "Enchanted," the House of Mouse's streaming platform continues to offer interesting and exciting ways to revitalize their biggest franchises. Although, the service also creates an avenue to revitalize lesser-known or forgotten properties from Disney's past. With their 100th anniversary just around the corner, that's likely to happen a lot more in 2023. But even before the new year is upon us, the company has announced that they're taking another trip back to Witch Mountain.

Disney+ has greenlit a pilot for “Witch Mountain,” a television reimagining of the 1975 “Escape to Witch Mountain” film franchise, starring Bryce Dallas Howard. The cast of the Disney Branded Television show, produced by ABC Signature, is rounded out by series regulars Isabel Gravitt (“The Watcher”), Levi Miller (“Streamline”), Bianca “b” Norwood (“WeCrashed”) and Jackson Kelly (“Straight Man”).
Billed as a modern reinvention of the cult classic, the show takes place in the shadow of “Witch Mountain,” following two teens that develop strange abilities and discover their sleepy suburb may not be as idyllic as it seems.
Travis Fickett and Terry Matalas co-wrote the pilot and are executive producers; Augustine Frizzell (“Euphoria”) will direct and is executive producer on the pilot. John Fox and John Davis of Davis Entertainment are executive producing, along with Gary Marsh.

With the arrival of December comes embracing the Christmas horror subgenre. When it's good, it's good. When it's bad, you still can't turn away. There's just something about the holidays going absolutely wrong that serves as both nightmare fuel and brilliant catharsis depending on the execution. It's why holiday horror film classics like "Black Christmas" and "Gremlins" still reign supreme on many of the Best Christmas horror lists to this day.
In the case of Chris Peckover's "Better Watch Out," the Australian Christmas horror film is more than good, with its horrific subtext concerning toxic masculinity aging better with time. The film follows 17-year-old Ashley (Olivia DeJonge) who has been hired to babysit the 12-year-old boy you'll absolutely despise by the film's end, Luke (Levi Miller). Luke has a crush on Ashley and ropes his best friend into a misguided faux home-invasion plan to attempt to seduce the teen.

Christmas horror movies are some of the most fun you can have during the holidays. There's something thrilling about combining the comfort of a holiday movie with the violent chaos of horror, to make a movie all about feeling unsafe during a time when you're supposed to feel the safest. The juxtaposition of blood and snow, plus all the Christmas lights make for delightfully colorful movies. It also helps that Christmas horror movies work on two separate holidays; You can add them to your October And December watchlists.
One of the best horror Christmas movies of the past few years is Chris Peckover's "Better Watch Out." The Australian horror movie is an R-rated riff on "Home Alone" and "Funny Games." It follows Ashley (Olivia DeJonge), a 17-year-old babysitting precocious 12-year-old Luke (Levi Miller) at Christmas time. When "Stranger Things" launched in 2016, most of its cast were virtual unknowns. Aside from veteran stars like Winona Ryder, the show was the first leading role for many of its cast members, especially the younger kids. Part of what made the show work so well was the fact that all those young kids were supremely-talented. The Netflix hit asks a lot from its stars — lots of action, lots of emotion — and every member of the ever-growing ensemble is up to the task, which makes for a fun watch.
It's also a useful launching pad for further stardom. The series tends to take breaks between seasons — three years passed between Seasons 3 and 4 — leaving the cast free to pursue other acting opportunities. This raises their profiles, providing them a solid base from which to hopefully continue their careers after "Stranger Things" comes to an end with its fifth season. Unsurprisingly, a lot...

If you’ve ever read any of my reviews around December, then you will probably know that I love Christmas movies. So when they mix perfectly together with the horror genre I am even happier.
That said, unfortunately, there’s not a whole lot of Christmas horror released each year, and even less, Good Christmas horror. In recent years, Better Watch Out, Await Further Instructions, Hosts, Black Christmas, I Trapped The Devil and The Lodge have all been largely entertaining and of good quality. Norwegian movie Jule Blood (Christmas Blood) covers a Christmas murderer who has escaped jail and back on the loose for that special day.

Holiday horror is a particular animal. It’s not for everyone. As much as everyone becomes a horror fan throughout the month of October, many people pull away from genre around the holidays. For some, it just doesn’t fit. Christmas is a time of love and laughter, of spending time with family and creating warm and lasting memories. Why would you want to mar all of that with serial killers, monsters, and stabbings?
For me, though (and I suspect for some of you as well), Christmas horror has become a vital part of the season. It has helped me connect with the holiday when the more classic traditions have failed. Over the past few years, Christmas has changed. I don’t know if it’s something about me, or something about the holiday, or just me getting older, but I no longer experience the holiday season in the way I used to.

Technicolor lights are about to illuminate every other home in the neighborhood; carolers are marching through the streets; even that old tree in Rockefeller is shining brightly.
For some folks, that’s enough to make you want to grab an axe. But don’t do that. Watch demented men dressed as Santa Claus or a demon Krampus indulge your Anti-Christmas sentiments with maximum gore. Indeed, this list isn’t about the most charming, heartwarming, or schmaltzy Christmas viewing traditions. Nah, this is about the 20 grossest, nastiest, and all around most fun Christmas horror movies. The kind where the greatest gift you’re going to get on Christmas morning is escaping with your life and maybe some psychological triggers whenever you see jolly men in red suits.

Australian actress Olivia DeJonge will star as Priscilla Presley in Baz Luhrmann’s untitled Elvis Presley biopic for Warner Bros.
Austin Butler is set to play the king of rock and roll and Tom Hanks will portray his manager, Col. Tom Parker. The movie hits theatres on Oct. 1, 2021.
“Olivia is capable of manifesting the complex depth and presence that has made Priscilla Presley an icon in her own right,” Luhrmann said. “She’s an extremely talented young actor and the perfect counterpoint to Austin’s Elvis.”
Luhrmann co-wrote the script with Craig Pearce. The movie centers on the relationship between the veteran manager and the young singer, who was born in 1935 to a poor family in the small town of Tupelo, Miss. Presley broke out in 1956 with “Heartbreak Hotel.” He met his future wife while serving in the U.S. Army in Germany and the couple married in 1967. They divorced in...

10 Christmas Movies That Definitely Aren’t for Kids (Photos)
Sure, Christmas is a time of joy for children of all ages, but that doesn’t mean that grown-ups can’t have the cinematic equivalent of a spiked egg nog. After you’ve packed the little ones off to bed, enjoy these movies, from the hilarious to the horrifying, that are aimed at adult audiences.
Anna and the Apocalypse (2018): It’s Christmastime! But thanks to a zombie outbreak, it’s also the endtimes, and our high school heroes dispatch the undead with bloody fervor. And did we mention this is also a musical?
A Bad Moms Christmas (2017): The bad moms just want to have fun, even when their own bad moms come rolling into town to celebrate the season. Santas will strip, and the egg nog will be spiked.

Just behind horror, believe it or not, my second favourite genre of film is ‘Christmas’. I will watch anything if it has a Christmas theme or is set at that time of year. So obviously when these two genres mix, I am over the moon! And there’s plenty of great Christmas horror movies out there. Even in the last few years we’ve had Krampus, A Christmas Horror Story and Better Watch Out. And I was hoping Secret Santa would be added to the list of films I will watch once a year.

2018 has been the year of nostalgia horror. Riding on the popularity of Stranger Things and It, we’ve seen films like Ready Player One bank entirely on the audience’s love of pop culture, while the upcoming Suspiria and Halloween movies continue the trend of reviving past successes. One often has to look to film festivals for contemporary narratives. After a year filled with lesser homages to bygone eras, Fantasia Film Festival delivers the twisty digital landscape of Cam, a film that feels like a beacon of genre cinema’s future.

Adapted from Madeleine L’Engle’s science fantasy novel of the same name, Ava DuVernay’s A Wrinkle In Time offers a commendably brave, heartening and visually captivating retelling of a much loved modern classic which has kept generations of young girls and boys hooked since its release in 1962.
Staring newcomer Storm Reid in the principle role of Meg, a bright teenage girl in search of her missing scientist father, the film does a passable job in presenting a brand new interpretation of L’Engle’s beautifully complex novel, but is slightly let down by its inability to come up with anything new or revolutionary, bar a few brilliant performances from its young cast.

Moreau will report to Mfi sales and acquisition chief Tanja Meissner and handle sales in Asia, Middle East, Turkey and Portugal. He will also be in charge of library sales and some marketing activities.
Kaiser, a well-regarded figure in the French sales scene who worked for Mfi for just under a decade, left the company at the end of last December to pursue other interests.
Moreau arrives at Mfi from Versatile, where he spent five years working gaining experience in sales on films such as Santiago Mitre’s Paulina, Runar Runarsson’s Sparrows and Chris Peckover’s Better Watch Out.

2017 was a horrific year, but it was also a great year for horror cinema. 2016 gave us some instant classics, but I would argue that this year’s offerings were more diverse, fascinating, and forward-thinking. There were mainstream films—It, Annabelle: Creation, and Happy Death Day, to name a few—that I didn’t personally love, but their success has paved the way for more genre cinema overall. We’re finally seeing stories that reflect our times. I had the honor of witnessing this upsurge of conversation and success at Sitges’ 50th anniversary event, which was my cinematic and personal highlight of the year.
In terms of television, Twin Peaks: The Return has to go down in history as one of broadcasted horror’s best moments. Lynch dialed up the intensity and the surrealism in his new installment, and the result was stunning—not only spiritually terrifying, but beautiful and moving as well.

Three young Australian actors lead the action in Home Alone gone bad-style thriller, with a big and cheeky twist
Better Watch Out is hardly the first scary movie to juxtapose festive season merriment alongside gnarly thrills, involving menacing phone calls, sharp instruments and various applications of duct tape.
Watching it reminded me of the, shall we say, morally dubious 1984 slasher flick Silent Night, Deadly Night – a cinematic experience I was sure I had repressed. A smattering of other films over the years – most of them junk, with titles like Happy Helladays and Slaughter Claus – have put the “yell” in “yuletide”, the “slay” in “sleigh” and the, er, “nnnnoooooo!” in “Noel”.

In terms of his horror trifecta of films—Paranormal Activity: The Marked Ones, Scouts Guide to the Zombie Apocalypse, and now Happy Death Day—I’m officially ready to start the Christopher Landon fan club. You couldn’t ask for three films to be more different from each other, and with every effort, Landon has proved himself to be a confident storyteller with a deep love of the genre in his work, and that affection has shone through with each of his cinematic endeavors.
With Happy Death Day, Landon serves up Groundhog Day (a connection the director hilariously addresses full-on in the film) with a slasher twist that may be intended for younger audiences, but this “old-timer” really enjoyed its unique approach to a modern murder mystery, and it’s easily the most “fun” studio horror movie set to hit theaters this October.
