The major release of the coming week is the political satire, Jai Ho Democracy, featuring prestigious names such as Annu Kapoor, Om Puri, Satish Kaushik, Adil Hussain and Seema Biswas. The other listed releases are Ishq Ke Parindey and Nath-ek Pratha. With the audience preferring to wait for the biggie, the Akshay Kumar starrer, Gabbar Is Back (May 1), it will just be Jai Ho Democracy which holds some promise at the box-office.
Meanwhile, just as we had stated in our previous box-office report, all the releases of last week namely, the Bhatts' venture Mr. X (3D), Kalki Koechlin starrer Margarita With A Straw, as also the mythological Nanak Shah Fakir, saw dull to dismal openings. And it was just Emraan Hashmi's Mr. X which dominated the show with a 20-25 percent (on an average) start. The film did not show any major upsurge in collection during the remaining days...

As was the likely scenario, the new releases of the current week- Bhatts' venture, Mr. X (3D), the Kalki Koechlin starrer, Margarita With A Straw, as also the mythological Nanak Shah Fakir, have opened to a very dull start. And as said in our box-office report, it was Emraan Hashmi's Mr. X which led, but as the hype was missing (unlike the team's previous ventures), it was a dull 20-25 percent (on an average) start, with the higher occupancies for the 3D version. As per the makers the film has netted 5.50 crore during the opening day. The film will have to work hard during the remaining days of the weekend to see a turnaround in its fortune.
Meanwhile, last week's Sunny Leone starrer, Ek Paheli Leela, could not quite capitalize on a decent 15 crore opening weekend, during the weekdays, despite the single screens putting up a good show. The...

This week's major release is the Bhatts' Emraan Hashmi starrer, Mr. X (3D), along with the mythological Punjabi film Nanak Shah Fakir as also Kalki Koechlin's English film Margarita With A Straw. It is expected that the Vikram Bhatt directed Mr X (3D) will try to repeat the Bhatt-Hashmi magic of yore, though the usual hype is missing. On the other hand, Nanak Shah Fakir will appeal not only to its target predominantly Sikh audience as also other lovers of humanity. The last mentioned film, Shonali Bose's Margarita With A Straw will garner excellent reviews but the box-office prospects appear limited.
Meanwhile, last Friday's T-Series venture, the Sunny Leone starrer, Ek Paheli Leela, embarked on a good to decent note leading to a creditable weekend. Given its reasonable investment (17-18 crore) and the quite decent 15 crore opening weekend, and the fact that Ek Paheli Leela is holding exceedingly well at the single screens,...

The recently released film Dharam Sankat Mein is the official Hindi adaptation of British satire The Infidel. It is also a third satire on Indian religious practices, after Oh My God! and Pk. The film sees veteran actors Paresh Rawal and Naseeruddin Shah sharing stage together. Here is what they had to say about the movie, their roles and more…
You are an actor who has beautifully tackled both extremes of characters where on one hand you have played roles of villain and on the other excelled in playing hilarious characters leaving the audience rolling with laughter. How do manage to play such different roles?
Paresh Rawal: I’m fortunate to have got the opportunity to play interesting characters. Well, some films are close to the heart while others are close to the pocket. I do commercial cinema because that helps me in sustaining my family and myself, and...

It's sex against religion this week at the box office. Sunny Leone whose journey into Bollywood is now the fodder for an international documentary would be seen playing the title role in Ek Paheli Leela this week. While her film has the oomph factor, she has performing stalwarts like Naseeruddin Shah, Paresh Rawal and Anu Kapoor to contend with. The heavyweight trio gets all set this Friday for Dharam Sankat Mein, an Indian version of Josh Appiganesi's The Infidel, based on the touchy topic of religious conversion. Considering how successful Raj Kumar Hirani was at taking potshots at organized religion, Dharam Sankat Mein is expected to tickle plenty of funny bones this Friday. On the other hand, Ms. Leone aims to tickle more than just the funny bone. This is the phase of the female hero. Kangna Ranaut in Queen and Anushka Sharma in NH10 have dazzled audiences while taking cent restage.

This week's two major releases are Paresh Rawal starrer, Dharam Sanket Mein and the Sunny Leone venture, Ek Paheli Leela. One feels that it's an almost equal battle but once the initial hype is over, Dharam Sankat Mein may prove to be the lambi race ka ghoda.
Last Friday's interesting Hollywood versus Bollywood (though with no A-listers), was comprehensibly won by the record smashing Fast and Furious 7 which literally ran over Detective Byomkesh Bakshy!
Coming to the number crunching, during the 4-day opening weekend, Vin Diesel's Fast and Furious 7 smashed all previous Hollywood venture records in India by a distance. The film netted around 50 crore (including dubbed versions), a figure that would make some of the Hindi releases proud.
On the other hand, Dibakar Banerjee's Sushant Singh Rajput starrer, Detective Byomkesh Bakshy!, which started on a decent note, did show a growth (but not very significant), during the opening 3-day weekend,...

Dharam Sankat Mein, the official Hindi adaptation of British satire “The Infidel”, which stars a powerhouse trio of Paresh Rawal, Annu Kapoor and Naseeruddin Shah, is set to hit the screens on 10th April, 2015.
Presented and produced by Viacom18 Motion Pictures, produced by Sajjad Chunawala and Shariq Patel from Trigno Media and directed by Fuwad Khan, it is the first time a Bollywood movie has 3 National Film Award winners in its main cast.
This rip-roaring social satire is helmed by versatile actor Paresh Rawal aka Dharampal, a man caught in the midst of an identity crisis. His entire belief system is shaken when documents from his departed mother’s locker reveal to him that instead of being what he believed himself to be – an average upper middle class Hindu – he was actually born to a Muslim family! A hilarious turn of events further leads to Dharampal truly being in Sankat.
