Nothing special
maraldocalzature4 February 2021
You can watch it but for more than half movie looks like the Rocky IV training to the fight. Lot of banal quotes. Musics are not matched totally with the atmosphere of scenes. A low budget movie (i hope) that u can watch but nothing so exciting

Not!

So much of this movie was not Biblical! Somewhat entertaining, yes. Simply not all the truth.

The title is promising but the movie can put a even a grizzly bear down

The Greatest Tale of all Time. True. Then there is this typo 'David AND Goliath' so the title of this movie sounds like it's one of those sleazy 80's adult flicks. This biblical tale is better known as 'David versus Goliath'. Anyway I don't want to be persnickety but the movie poster is still the best thing about this movie. Period. I have seen better footage lying on editor's cutting floors than this. Sometimes I do not understand why serious movie makers struggle for money to get an independent movie gem made and other director's can easily deliver crap like this. Hollywood works in mysterious ways. Maybe this isn't a movie but instead it's a really long television ad for retro clothing and shoes. Who knows?

Worthless!! No redeeming value at all.
gunndavid-3275024 June 2017
If you're looking for an accurate Biblical portrayal of the epic story of David and Goliath, move along. Nothing to see here. This story is a re-write and they do preface the movie with the disclaimer that they took artistic and stylistic license. However, this movie is so NOT the story of David and Goliath. If you change the names of the very poorly acted characters there would be absolutely no resemblance. It removes faith from the story and portrays David as a late twenty something warrior in training instead of a sheep tending, song singing, fresh- faced young teenage boy. The acting, directing and casting, just make this movie atrocious. No redeeming value...not even with the hot girl who makes an appearance for a few moments.

Best not to under estimate the simplicity of rock and rope

Warning: Spoilers
There appears to be contest going on as to who can make the most horribly made Bible story. The Wallace Brothers would like for you to consider this poorly acted monstrosity. The film covers the period of chapters 16 and 17 in the book of Samuel and not too accurate. The film took liberties with dialogue as well as the facts. And BTW Michal is not pronounced Michelle.

After defeating two armed men twice his size, David does training fights with one unarmed man and gets smoked. In fact the bulk of the film is Sensai Samuel instructing young Grasshopper David in how to fight, utilizing his brothers as opponents. The anointing of David took place in the house of Jesse. David was brought to Samuel in the Bible. Samuel didn't bump into him along the road. David did not have to first defeat Goliath's sidekick first before he fought Goliath. Saul said to David right before his battle with Goliath, "Let's have a beer first." My Bible missed that one.

David and Goliath
parker-8728725 May 2018
This movie was better than some of the interpretations of David and Goliath I've seen; however, it still was a far cry from the actual biblical story. I wondered if all the producers took from the narrative was the names!

Regardless, the quality of the movie was very good. High resolution, good CG, wonderful scenery, and an okay job on the costume designs. My favorite part was when Goliath came onto the scene. The guy who played him was huge and convincing as Goliath. I like the interpretation of David as a masculine man and not a pubescent boy. One of the problems I've always had with a David portrayal is that he's portrayed as young boy with blonde hair and blue eyes. This David was masculine and manly. I mean, if we're going with the biblical narrative, David took out animals to protect his father's sheep. That's not a thin, skinny pale boy. Plus, David lived in warm climate and was a Jew. Chances are, he's at least tanned with dark hair.

But I digress.

All in all, I watched the movie fully aware there was a lot of creative tampering with the biblical narrative BUT I did like the action scenes.

Exceedingly Boring
Uriah4310 October 2018
This film essentially begins with the prophet "Samuel" (John Knox) wandering through the desert in search of a young man who is destined to become the next King of Israel. Needless to say, after passing over all of his brothers he finds "David" (Matt Berberi) tending his father's flock and after a bit of conversation anoints him as the heir apparent to "Saul" (Rodger Halston). So far so good. Unfortunately, the film goes totally off the rails after this as Samuel now takes it upon himself to train David for an extended period of time for combat. Not only that but he also convinces 4 other young men to assist as well. To that end, the actual combat with "Goliath" (Michael Foster) is of a very short duration and--other than possibly the presence of Devin Brooke (as "Michal")--is the only thing of any interest as the rest of the film was exceedingly boring. That being said, this is one of those pictures which I cannot recommend to anybody and I have rated it according.

3rd quality western movie
ahmetcikit9 May 2017
This is very funny movie I have ever seen :-)...I only have watched first 15 minutes of the movie then I realised that.David and the other characters actually a part of 3rd quality spaghetti western movie. The location is more Texas than middle east and all characters are talking' and acting like cowboys...funny..

Nauseating
alansmithee-1924129 July 2017
This may as well be The CW's interpretation of the Bible. David fights (and kills) Goliath's shield bearer using bad Krav Maga moves and engages Goliath in a 3-1/2 minute sword-and-fist fight before climaxing with the iconic slingshotted stone, which turns out to be a godawful CG effect that looks like it belongs in Dragonball Z. I could go on for a few more paragraphs, but that should be enough to keep you away from this garbage, unless you're watching it for the same reasons you'd watch a Neil Breen film. I'm an atheist and was still somehow offended by it.

I liked it for what it was.
cinephile-2769012 September 2018
I hate it when Bible movies don't follow said source, with few exceptions like The Last Temptation of Christ. However, this is based on one chapter of the Bible-1 Samuel 17, with a few surrounding events. Because of this, and thanks to a disclaimer in the beginning, I let it go and let this interpretation tell itself. The movie is pretty close anyways. I mean, compared to the Orson Welles or Veggie Tales version it's fair. It's no Ben-Hur but it's still enjoyable.

Good, but missing something important
bz_comics9 March 2021
The film does a great job of showing what could have happened in the life of King David. The introduction of Goliath is great, but looks like it was an afterthought. Most of the performances are well done, except the lead. His lines come off as read.

Far from inspired
blade-217 November 2017
This is so bad to there was one point at which I thought it was a comedy! People in the cast appeared to be walking aimlessly around in circles, about five horses walked past the camera on a number of occasions. Where on Earth all these people were walking to is a mystery given that they simply appeared to be circling around some ruins. The plot is basically the biblical story that takes up just a few verses in the Bible. It is however strung out for so long, so amateurishly and with such poor production quality that it becomes almost laughable.

Far too inaccurate
aim-999675 June 2023
It's good that they disclaimer it in advance that this movie will be taking a creative approach and that it won't be historically accurate, but in the process they ended up adding in extra scenes that detract from what the Bible says about his later fight against Goliath, about why and how it was basically a miracle in his winning that battle. How so? They have him fighting 2 humans long before then. The Bible has it that he never fought any humans until against Goliath, but rather against animals attacking the sheep he was guarding. And the Bible mentions which specific types of animals those were.

There was no point in watching the rest...

Not Based on Reality

It is quite the shame when they take liberties with Biblical movies -- the movie that the Jehovah's Witnesses made about Josiah was much BETTER than this movie I am watching about David and Goliath!!!

Inaccurate interpretation.
kksoccer-371246 January 2019
This lacked so many aspects of the story. David, though young, was fearless and brave, not timid as portrayed in the movie. He was not a trained Warrior like his brothers were, he was a shepherd. He did not need to be trained because God was on his side. This lscked the perspective of David and God's relationship. And so many inaccurate details through the whole movie. Sad. If this were any other movie based on a book or true story it would have to be accurate and depict the story as written, even down to the small details because that's what is expected be the viewers, author and critics. Why, when it comes to the Bible, film makers feel they have to change it to make it seem more interesting? Shame.

It's just awful....
catherinedth8 April 2018
Warning: Spoilers
The title of this film would at least make me hope for something fairly decent, but I was really let down. This film is rubbish. I can't believe I actually made it to the end of this film. Every cast member speaks in the exact same voice, which leads me to believe they might have just used the same 3 actors to play every character ..... There's never any excitement in any actors face or voice, including at the end when he beats Goliath (even then, you can find those exact same recorded cheers anywhere really....) ..... And as for getting a slash across the back of your knee and not screaming in pain instantly .... Well, this film does that incredibly well .... I'd happily give this a 0 star rating if I could.....

No redeeming value. Foolishness.
pastorbarry-134-66442522 December 2018
Warning: Spoilers
The only thing biblical about the movie is the character names.

David was anointed by Samuel at Jesse's home, not out in the desert.

David never fought Goliath with a sword prior to the slingshot.

I could go on...

This was more Star Wars in the Desert.

Do not watch unless you like B comedy

Very Disappointing
kanjeep25 August 2023
Warning: Spoilers
They went way off script on this one. By having David being a trained warrior before he fought Goliath, you take away from the miracle that actually happened. David was to become a great warrior and king, but this story is supposed to take place when he was young and inexperienced in combat. They also made Goliath relatively tall, but he wasn't that menacing. The acting was ok, but the leaning away from the Bible just ruined it in my opinion. It's amazing how someone can take a story that was written thousands of years ago for them and mess it up. This is a prime example of that happened. Do yourself a favor and watch some of the other shows that are more accurate.

Very bad
dukeb0y17 March 2024
Warning: Spoilers
I really enjoy bible stories put on film. As long as they keep to the story. This one is so far off. I'd like to know who wrote it, who filmed it just horrible. I'd like to take him out to the Woodshed for ruining such a good story.

However I'll give it a brownie point for the outfits and swords, how few there were, but hey it was realistic.

Well that's about it for this review. There's not much else to say. Not worth a watch really. Unless you got maybe 8-year-olds or something. Also they did have a couple seconds of special effects that actually weren't bad. For example when he uses a sling to put a rock into Goliath's forehead well we have a little bright light moving it along. Which is cement God was helping kill Goliath.

Battle of good vs evil
jsbourne8 April 2017
Warning: Spoilers
This is a story we know from the Bible. David vs Goliath. This fills in some of what David does to prepare for his ultimate battle. David is well played in this movie by Matt Berberi. Goliath is played so well by Michael Foster. This movie takes you further on the journey that David went through. Loved this movie, the scenery was beautiful, music was great. Overall loved this movie

I wasted my time watching this "movie"
nofnof5 July 2022
I love Biblical movies and I watch many of them, this one is kinda the worst movie Ive ever watched, it's like an LGBT movie not a biblical one! Not sure why half of the movie is naked men training in the desert, the guy who acted as David is the last one I would pick for such a great king, unbelievable, i wish I saw the rating of this movie before I rented it and paid $4.5. Dont waste your money on this thing.

This is an excellent telling of David and Goliath. This movie shows how David prepared to be a leader and hero. The fight scenes are incredible! Goliath was portrayed perfectly. I was never bored at any point during this movie. It's a very welcome addition to my movie night collection. I recommend this movie to anyone who enjoys the story of David and Goliath!!!!
