Damon Salvatore: Liz Forbes was my friend. In her last moments she asked me to pass along a message to her daughter, but I cut her off before she could say too much, told her she could tell Caroline herself. She didn't get that chance. Your mom wanted you to know how proud of you she was, and she should be. You're a beautiful, strong woman, a generous friend, and a bright light in a sea of dark. She said you were extraordinary, and you are, and so was she. Liz was a hero to this town, she was a hero to all of you, and she was a hero to me. Goodbye, Sheriff. You will be missed.

Caroline Forbes: [enters as Damon crumples yet another piece of paper] Sorry, just, um... Water.
Damon Salvatore: Help yourself.
Caroline Forbes: So, what are you not writing?
Damon Salvatore: Would you believe your mother trusted me to eulogize her?
Caroline Forbes: That's... nice, I guess...
[taps water into glass]
Damon Salvatore: I think she was trying to teach me a lesson about my own mom. I was supposed to do the eulogy at her funeral, and I just...
Caroline Forbes: [dismissive] We don't have to share.
Damon Salvatore: Right.
Caroline Forbes: [after long silence] I just mean...
[sighs wearily]
Caroline Forbes: today is pretty much gonna be the worst day of my life. I'm not sure that I need to start it off by bonding with you. No offense.
Damon Salvatore: None taken.
Caroline Forbes: Great. Thanks for the water.
[heads for door]
Damon Salvatore: Hey, blondie.
[she halts]
Damon Salvatore: Today isn't the worst day of your life. Today and tomorrow, it's a cake walk. There'll be people around you day in and day out, like they're afraid to leave you alone. The worst day? That's next week. When there's nothing... but quiet.
[she stares at him unhappily]
Damon Salvatore: Just a heads-up.
Caroline Forbes: Appreciate the tip.
[on her way again]
Damon Salvatore: Sure. Anytime.
