1830, just outside the town of Raven’s Hollow, five West Point cadets, Edgar Allan Poe, yes the writer, Lawrence Bishop (Kyle Rowe; The Brothers Grimsby), Will Taylor, Thomas Cricke (Michael Guest; Balance) and Lutz Becker come across a man disemboweled and hung up like a scarecrow.
In true cinematic fashion, he has just enough life left in him to utter a single word, “Raven”, before dying. Poe convinces the others it’s their duty to bring his body to town for proper burial. What they find is a town that is almost deserted, its inhabitants in the middle of a funeral for a girl we saw die a most unnatural death in the film’s prologue. It quickly...

The good news is that he’s had no problem rising to the meta-human challenge.
Besides starring in the short films Ladies First and Breach, Horton made a guest appearance on the TV series Doctors and in the films It Came from the Desert and How to Talk to Girls at Parties. We’re now just over halfway through September, so let’s turn our attention to what’s coming to Hulu next month. Every October, the streaming service celebrates “Huluween” by adding a bunch of new Halloween-themed content. A couple years ago we first reported about a crowdfunding campaign launched to support the creation of Mad Heidi, the first Swissploitation film. Produced by Iron Sky's Tero Kaukomaa, who knows a thing or two about exploitation cinema, and Valentin Greutert, Mad Heidi will be directed by Johannes Hartmann. If all goes according to plan this will be Hartmann's feature film debut. The production announced today that Trent Haaga, writer of films like 68 Kill, Cheap Thrills, and Girl on the Third Floor (story), will come on board to go over the script. He also wrote It Came From The Desert but I'm willing to grant him the benefit of the doubt because of what else he has written. The writing and drafting...

Hugh Dane, who played no-nonsense security guard Hank on “The Office,” has died. He was 75.
The actor portrayed characters in memorable films and series such as “The Office,” “The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air,” and “Bridesmaids,” for nearly 30 years. The Inner City Cultural Center posted a notice of his death on Facebook.
Dane originally broke into acting in the late 1980s with a role in the video game “It Came From the Desert,” but his first television part as the Father in “Hunter” followed soon after, setting into motion a career’s worth of TV acting. While Dunder Mifflin’s Hank was Dane’s most longstanding role, he also played two characters in “The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air” and recurred as Fred in the Emmy-nominated ’90s series “Roc.”
In the film realm, Dane lent his talents to comedies like “Little Fockers” and “Bridesmaids.” Some of his other acting credits include stints on “Friends,...

"Ants are incredibly resilient - all we did is splice them with alien DNA and grow them to super-size." The Orchard has released a new official trailer for the very cheesy sci-fi horror film It Came From the Desert, adapted from a video game in the 1980s about giant ants. The game is obviously inspired by the sci-fi classic Them! (also about giant ants) and really this is almost just a remake of Them!, but it looks way way worse. The film "features rival motocross heroes and heroines, kegger parties in the desert, secret underground military bases, romantic insecurities...and of course giant ants." This stars Mark Arnold, Harry Lister Smith, Vanessa Grasse, Alex Mills, James Alper, Claudia Trujillo, Callum McGowan, and Aino Sirje. It doesn't look very good, but it does seem extra violent and action-packed, that's something at least. Here's the new official trailer (+ poster) for Marko Mäkilaakso...

"We're trapped by this giant ant!" File this one under "Wait, this film really exists?!" Roger! Pictures out of Finland has launched the first trailer for a movie called It Came From the Desert, adapted from a video game in the 1980s about giant ants. The game is obviously inspired by the sci-fi classic Them! (also about giant ants) and thus this is clearly an updated version of the giant ant sci-fi story. Sadly, it looks more like a SyFy movie than anything I'm excited to see, but maybe I should've expected that. This film stars Mark Arnold, Harry Lister Smith, Vanessa Grasse, Alex Mills, James Alper, Claudia Trujillo, Callum McGowan, and Aino Sirje. The coolest part in this is the first reveal of someone being impaled through the chest, but the ants themselves look terrible. Hopefully they're much better in the final version. Have fun. Here's the official trailer...

There really is not a whole lot we have to say about the Finnish creature feature It Came From the Desert. After a couple proofs of concept came out Canadian outfit Raven Banner jumped on board to help get it out into the world and now the official trailer is here! It Came From The Desert is an adaptation of a 1989 video game and is directed by filmmaker Marko Mäkilaakso who made War of the Dead, which was not the most favorite thing I saw on the festival circuit that year, but it is hard to screw up giant ants. Mäkilaakso directed and co-wrote with Hank Woon (Age of Dinosaurs) and Trent Haaga (68 Kill). Roger! Picture’s Teemu Virta and Alliance Media...

The classic Cinemaware videogame is getting the big screen treatment. And a trailer has finally appeared...
This certainly took its time getting here. The planned movie of Cinemaware's classic videogame It Came From The Desert was first talked about a few years ago - our story below is from June 2015, the last time we reported on the project - but now it looks like it's nearly here.
The first trailer for the film has landed, and whilst there's no release date that's yet been announced, here's what's in store...
Our guess is that the film is likely to go straight to on demand and streaming services, incidentally...
From June 2015...
Fans of the work of classic videogames company Cinemaware will, we suspect, have clicked on this story hoping that we were about to talk about the 16-bit classic videogame, It Came From The Desert.
And we are.

The classic Cinemaware videogame is getting the big screen treatment. Details here...
Fans of the work of classic videogames company Cinemaware will, we suspect, have clicked on this story hoping that we were about to talk about the 16-bit classic videogame, It Came From The Desert.
And we are.
The game, a heartfelt homage to 1950s B-movies, arrived in the late 1980s, and mixed action, horror, comedy, and bloody big ants. If you're thinking that sounds in particular like Them!, then bonus points.
In one of those modern culture cycles of fate, then, a game based around a film is now being turned into a different film. In conjunction with Cinemaware, Roger! Pictures of Finland has announced plans to bring It Came From The Desert to the big screen.
The movie will be a mix of action, horror and comedy, and the firm has already pre-sold rights to several territories...

There are giant ants on the way to spread destruction in Marko Mäkilaakso's adaptation of classic video game It Came From The Desert. We first covered this one back in February when the project was initially announced but following a successful Cannes where rights to the film were pre-sold to a handful of territories producers are on their way to launching full production before the end of the year and have opted to release the two minute proof of concept reel they showed buyers in Cannes. For those unfamiliar, a proof of concept isn't a trailer, per se, and most often the footage found within them never even appears in the finished film. Instead they're a an original creation designed to show off the abilities of...

Set up last year to champion Scandinavian horror, the Nordic Genre Invasion has most recently infiltrated Cannes, where some significant deals have advanced the cause. Taneli Mustonen's Bodom is finally underway, and it's been joined on its journey to production by Pål Oie's Villmark Asylum and Marko Mäkilaakso's It Came From The Desert.Mustonen's Bodom is inspired by the legendary unsolved murders at Lake Bodom in 1960 (the metal-inclined may already be familiar with the Finnish Children of Bodom, named for the same reason). Set in the present day, the film is about two couples who go to Bodom to reconstruct the events. It goes badly. “We aim to bring down the whole camping industry in Finland,” production company Don Films' Aleksi Hyvärinen chuckled to Empire last autumn. Mustonen's most recent film, The Reunion, was the biggest homegrown box-office hit in Finland in more than a decade.Oie's Villmark...
