I mean...
foxtrotmarie20 October 2019
Warning: Spoilers
It was a cool idea. There was a lot that could have been done with the alternate dimensions. The acting wasn't terrible.

However the half the movie that focused on the party and the cops was pointless. Absolutely useless.

The half the movie that focused on our travellers had no real plot. Like sure they travel that's great but why and how and what does it actually do? The alternate dimensions were pointless and barely there, the teacher was magically everywhere and knew it was all going on. None of it made any sense. Plus homeboy is a cheating piece now so...

What's more is he randomly shouts he didn't murder the bully then the cop can't find the bully who is now stuck in the other dimension, but did find the bloody pencil so now after the credits roll Jude our 'hero' is gonna get arrested for a murder that he didn't do but literally everything is going to point to him doing it and its doubtful our all knowing teacher is going to fix it.

There's just no plot to the cool idea and too many holes and unanswered questions.

But grandma unlocking the door was funny.

Weak World Building
henrys-8854826 October 2018
First half is good. Second half, not so much. The film creates a parallel universe only to break the rules it previously established. Is it truly a parallel universe...or is it a game show? I'm not sure even the writers know. The end result is a plot that makes little sense, dragging down the rating from an 8 to a 6. I did like the characters, however.

Don't overthink this fun family Halloween candy...
troy-boulton17 October 2018
Slick, fun and efficient, 'Seven Minutes' is a highly produced and polished teen sci-fi fantasy. The film manages to engage the viewer and build pace quickly, and doesn't complicate the plot with the whys and wherefores of the lead protagonists' multiversal predicament. 'Heaven' manages to dip its toes into darker waters than the typical teen party genre flick, but ultimately pulls its punches to keep on the the conservative side of the PG13 fence. Whilst it definitely channels Back to the future's multi-timeline spirit, '7' is not quite of the same caliber. Solid Halloween fun for the family, with a few jolts and a possible sense of edginess for younger audience members, but don't make it the feature film of the night.

Frustrating
jenniferlynn-4955526 January 2019
Warning: Spoilers
I wanted to like this movie but I just can't. I love movies that make you think. I'm still thinking about 12 monkeys. This had a lot of plot holes or just unnecessary scenes. So Mr. Wallace, he's a guidance councler in the real world and still a form of a guidance counselor in the 2 other dimensions. Except, he's viloent, scary, and helpful? Why didn't Jude ask him a million questions in the second dimension, when Mr. Wallace led on to some knowledge of what was going on? The playing cards, why would something that was just fun for husband and wives been a passport to other dimensions? June, why was her sister killing her in the second dimension but was reversed in the 3rd dimension? Jude's dad, why was he so evil in the second and so normal and cryptic in the 3rd? Why did Jude lock June out with the Mob, to just have this boring convo with his dad, where not one question was, what the hell is going on? Jude, cheats on Nell, who was a nice girlfriend, with June and just expects to go back to normal? What happens in 3rd dimension stays in 3rd dimension? Derek, why would he step away from a keg party to play seven minutes in Heaven with a bunch of nerds? Why wasn't everyone more freaked out that they disappeared? They acted as if they ran off together, THEY WERE ALL OUTSIDE THE DOOR, they couldn't have gone anywhere! Why does Jude keep breaking pencils? In 2nd dimension, how was Mr. Wallace able to walk up to cops and the angry party mob and let a murder suspect go upstairs to sit in the closet? Why did Mr. Wallace show up in real world time, to say hey kids glad you made it? Was he aware the whole time of what was happening? When leaving the third dimension in a firey blaze, why didn't they take their jackets off to cover the crack in the door? Use more clothing to cover their faces? They made a point of showing him touch the burning hot knob, it would have been cool to see a burn mark from it. A wow it really happened moment. After the whole night, now Derek wants to try out the closet? Did he even have a passport? We know he is not going to figure out how to get back.... Which leads us to the final twist..... After everything, Jude will be arrested for murder because he announced to everyone that he did not kill Derek, who is now missing, and finally, there is now a bloody murder weapon in the form of a pencil! Last but not least, why did imdb ever remove the question forum? We need it for movies like this! I wish someone else wrote this because it could've been cool.

Fun, eerie horror flick within a high school party flick.
Andrew_Wiper16 October 2018
Warning: Spoilers
Seven in Heaven.. sounds like a teen rom com, but actually is a cool and creepy little horror mystery film. The whole premise of a secret closet in a house that transports two high school students to a messed up alternate reality should reel most viewers in. It did for me anyways, and I'm glad I watched it because it was fun and it keeps you guessing throughout the film's runtime while still remaining creepy and suspenseful at the same time. I actually wish Netflix would add more movies like this. Who cares if they are kind of low budget, the film still looked really good and I was impressed by the eerie atmosphere they created by using the dark reddish look in the alternate reality. Yes check this one out! A high school party movie/ horror fantasy thriller. 7.25/10

Who thinks this sounded like a good idea?
wormsoftheerth17 October 2018
I was going to write a longer review but it's not necessary. All you need to know about this flick is that they don't do anything interesting with the dimensional travel concept. Nothing of any particular consequence happens when the kids travel to the other dimension, and it's full of awkward discrepancies and inconsistencies. Nearly all questions it raises are left unanswered. The few answers it gives are completely mundane and make you wonder why this movie was even made. Anything they introduce that seems suspicious and/or like will be integral to the plot later turns out to neither be explained nor necessary to the plot. The characters face only the most rudimentary of trials and there is no payoff whatsoever. I'd love to hear how exactly the writer sold this movie. "Ok so check it out- we've got these kids at a party and then they travel to another dimension. The dimension is basically the same but different...somehow. Anyway they basically just run around for a while and are confused and then eventually they come back and yeah. Well...that's pretty much it right there". Wow, doesn't that sound so great? Oh, and a solid 1/3 of this is basically an entirely different movie which covers the rest of the kids at the party. The majority of that part is the cops trying to get into the house and the kids saying no, then every so often they bring the parent of one of the kids to come yell at them- even though none of these characters was previously introduced nor are they mentioned again making it all feel very tedious and pointless. Avoid this. I love this type of movie where the characters and audience are challenged to question reality, but this one doesn't deliver in any way.

at its best when its not answering questions
phenomynouss14 October 2018
Warning: Spoilers
This film promises alternate universe escapades from the very start. but several minutes into the film, you can quite readily tell this is not the kind of film that is prepared for all the sci-fi and mind-bending trauma that such a thing entails.

this film overcomes that sort of thing by remaining concise, focusing not on the alternate universe itself, nor lingering too much on how they end up getting there, but keeps tightly focused on the protagonists trying to get out of it.

along the way, Gary Cole appears as a teacher who inexplicably appears to be fully aware of the protagonists' ordeal and acts at times as an exasperated guide and other times a menacing sort of referee between the protagonists and the alternate universe people who are hostile to them.

While this is happening, the film is also focused on the "main" universe people the protagonists have left behind during a house party, dealing with the fact that two of their friends just disappeared in a secret closet, and now the cops have arrived, one of them having made the mistake of not bothering to check if there was drugs or underaged drinking occurring and now unable to get a warrant to enter the house and so is now squatting outside waiting to arrest any teen that tries to escape.

A lot of aspects of the "travelling" are unanswered, and it works best when it remains unanswered. Everything about it feels functional and meaningful in some way unexplained to us in such a way that it just works, and the mystery makes it more compelling.

At some point, however, the movie starts caving in to the pressures of storytelling, and starts to set things up in a more surreal and less sci-fi fashion. The "alternate" universe somehow ceases to be an alternate universe and becomes something more fitting for a morality fable, while some of the precise mechanisms of the "travel" are given some flimsy explanation with incoherent nonsense involving a playing card as a "passport".

None of that manages to completely derail the rest of the film, but it certainly fumbles a great shot at an alternate universe type film with the limitations of budget and location.

Stupidity
TheProteanGirl22 January 2019
This movie didn't make any sense in anyway. I have never been so perplexed after watching a movie as I have with this movie in my life. Nothing is explained throughout the plot as to what is happening, the storyline has so many plot-holes and we get some half-ass explanation at the end which is supposed to make sense but doesn't one bit. Ending is super just there and that would normally be fine in a good movie that is well made but in a stupid one like this where nothing is explained it just adds gasoline to the fire of incomprehension. And it's a shame because the idea behind it could've been amazing if it was well executed, but it wasn't.

Probably my favorite-ever movie that doesn't make any sense
Hal_Opinot-Pepper29 April 2021
I actually like this movie. Of all the movies I've watched that make no sense at all, where things happen for no reason and nobody's behavior is ever explained, it's probably my favorite. That's really saying something. It sorta seems like, they got 99% of the way to making a really cool, fun teen sci-fi movie, but then, the editing guy was drunk and just ruined it at the very last minute. You can tell that if it had made sense, it would have been a really cool movie.

Plus, either way, it strikes a personal note with me, as when I was in high school, Gary Cole was my guidance counselor, and I never knew when I saw him whether he was going to try to help me or run me down with his car.

Confusing/pointless
Calicodreamin17 October 2019
I'm not really sure what this movie is supposed to be about? I kept waiting for some cool plot twist to bring it all together and it never happened. The scenes didn't flow, creating a non cohesive storyline. These two kids go to some alternate reality, one person there knows what's going on, but the kids never ask him? Wouldn't that be your first question, what's going on? Overall, I thought the movie lacked character depth, lacked emotion, and lacked an actual plot. On the positive, the acting from the kids was okay, and the cinematography was good.

Everyone seems to have missed the truth here
graceh-1490120 December 2018
Warning: Spoilers
In reading all of the different reviews I've noticed that no one realized that "both" of the other dimensions the kids visited were, absolutely, the same dimension. That's how Mr. Wallace was able to get everyone to stand down to get the kids back into the closet. It's ALSO why the main girl's sister tried to smother her. When they run away the sister says "you should have just let me smother you, it would have been easier" it's because she, and everyone else, knew that they were in this horrible consequences of your actions dimension. Yes, the movie had some pointless moments, but it WAS a good movie. It keeps you guessing until the end. And when you don't get the answers you're looking for, you have to think about the movie after it ends. It's a movie that's engineered to make you come up with your own answers later. It's a solid and smart movie. Would definitely recommend.

Also, I wish they still had the forums as I would also like to explain the pencil and Derek's (the bully) disappearance. Many people think that the movie emphasizes the pencil for no reason. But that's not true. That pencil is going to have the bully's and the main guys blood on it. From when he cut his thumb just before entering the closet. He's going to answer to murder charges after the movie ends.

I only took the time to write all of this because I know a lot of people come here post movie for answers, so i'm here to scratch that itch. Hope you enjoyed it!

Silly, nonsense
msjessica-6749319 October 2018
It wasn't a horror movie. It started out good, but nose dived quickly. The acting was decent but the story line was flawed & childish & ultimately went no where. I understand what they meant to portray but it was boring & pointless. Maybe good for kids & teenagers, not for adults.

Coulda, Woulda, Shoulda...
sugarnspices19 October 2018
Warning: Spoilers
The summary of this movie sounded interesting, not to mention it was listed as a "horror, sci-fi" aka right up my ally, so I decided to give it a whirl. All I have to say is: at least it was only an hour and a half long.

I will say the main 2 protagonists did a decent job in acting. There was something very endearing about the main boy and I didn't mind the main girl as well. With that being said....

I think this movie was to teach a lesson of not lying and being true to yourself? Making the most out of this life and not being mean to others? Although they went about conveying that in all the wrong ways or a total lack there of I should say.

They needed to build up to these kids and give more reasons as to why they were actually transported. The kid lying or fibbing to his substitute teacher and the girl having an obvious crush on the main boy, but standing by his bully, did not mean (in my opinion) they needed to be transported to this other dimension to learn a lesson. You could tell they were both good kids, just teenagers. I've seen a lot worse in my day. It would have made a lot more sense if the bully had been sent right away and came back learning a lesson.

I think they also needed a more cut and dry difference between the two dimensions. In one the main kid has lost his dad, but is overall a good, normal kid...kind of a dork with not a lot of friends. In the other dimension, he is a...heavy metal lover/stabs kids in the neck with a pencil? (which would be very unlikely to actually kill someone with btw) Other than his satanic like room, not seeing a drastic difference there, other than his dad being alive of course. Even that fact, the dad being alive, really didn't have an impact and was just glossed over. Pointless. The main girl? Well we don't know much about her to begin with, but in the other dimension, her family has nicey-nice pictures everywhere, but when she goes upstairs her sister tries to kill her. But she says in the real world, they don't get along at all either. Once again, not seeing a huge difference there, not like we were given a lot to work with in the first place.

The party that is going on in the real world? Pointless. Other than to get the kids into the closet. Cops called with a whole bunch of 16-17 year old kids and he sees no furniture or adults and red dixie cups smashed on the floor. But, decides to leave because there's "no sign of drinking or drugs", right. I wish this cop was around when I use to party in high school/college. The dragging out of the parents showing up and these kids not letting anyone in was just downright dumb and unnecessary. Until morning I might add, the main kids mom dropped him off while it was still light outside. So these kids, with one keg, sit in this house for 12 hours? THIS WOULD NEVER HAPPEN. IN ANY DIMENSION.

The gateway in general was boring. A closet? A closet in some teenagers house? No back up or explaining as to why this is the location. Also, the playing cards with all the moms. Completely pointless and focused on way to much. Once again, P.O.I.N.T.L.E.S.S.

Gary Cole? Is he the gatekeeper? Why? His only purpose in the movie was to get them out of the other dimension and tell the main kid to go to class in the real world. Rightttt.

The other dimension and people in general were all lacking a reason and drive. Everyone was mad and wanted the main kid caught for killing the bully, but then turns out the bully is alive and well and, well...still bullying! Along with everyone else. Missing what their objective was or what they really functioned off of, meanness? If so, shouldn't they have loved the fact he supposedly murdered someone?

It's nice to see writers think outside the box and not make a total cliche movie, but I think there was some major lacking in creating a full, rounded, well thought out movie. Should have focused on more aspects and cut a lot of other parts out. This movie was more a long the line of an "Are you Afraid of the Dark" episode, but not as good lol.

Not bad at all
mpgfanaticrockhard27 November 2018
The fact that so many people are defecating all over this movie should give you pause. It's not all that bad. To be fair, it is actually pretty decent. All that is required to enjoy this movie is a little bit of love, a little bit of hate, and a little bit of jealousy.

I highly doubt adults would like this
politehere17 October 2018
I'm not sure why this movie has been put in the horror category. There is certainly nothing scary here. The only real horror is that it is advertised as horror. It was more like a Twilight zone movie, so it falls into the category of fantasy movies. It was an attempt to make use of ideas from Jumanji 2, except that this was lame and Jumanji 2 was fun and actually made you laugh your ass off. The only thing it had going for it was the cinematography, which was not bad for a low-budget movie. The acting was so-so, but the main problem with this movie is its nonsensical plot. You could argue that it was as nonsensical as Jumanji's plot, except that this was lame and boring. I guess mostly teenagers would enjoy this, because of the teen party and the first kiss and stuff like that, and that's probably the kind of audience the producers had in mind. I can't see how anyone over 18 years of age could possibly find this remotely enjoyable.

A teenage version of Us (2019)
robertemerald5 January 2020
As the movie Us (2019) came after this one, I'd have to say the inspiration may have been something like Coherence (2013), with a dash of Truth or Dare (2018). Unlike most people I didn't see Coherence as a revelation. I admire the originality of the idea, but from that idea the movie only goes so far as to create acting opportunities for the cast, much like an episode of Thank God You're Here (2006). Similarly, Seven In Heaven is an opportunity gone begging. It hasn't the abrupt violence, distortion and frantic tension of Us, or the dystopian dimension. The tension in Seven is blasé, and even a little illogical. The cover of the dvd puts one in mind of Paranormal Activity: The Ghost Dimension, but Seven lacks any special effects at all. Nor did Seven have the visceral horror dimension of Truth or Dare. These points are all opportunities that have gone begging. The writers and filmmakers needed something much more ambitious, hard edged and visual to really make this source material sing. It needed more time in the think tank. I thought the ending was a little cruel. That was what decided me to give this only a 6. I was certainly entertained, the premise and the actors did display skill, but I think that most people over the age 16 may think this movie a little tame by today's standards.

Bad and not funny bad. Just bad.

Acting was ok. Gave it a 2 for that. Everything else is awful. Bad script. No character development. Almost complete nonsensical plot. No pay offs. No narrative. No ending. Just trash. Don't waste your time. Watch jeapordy or something...maybe you'll learn something.

My Opinion
leah-2177523 January 2021
I liked the film because it was an original idea. I disliked the film because it wasn't very consistent, and parts of it, didn't make much sense, including the ending, which I had to look up on the net, in order to understand what exactly happened.

I recommend the film, because despite the faults, it was very entertaining, and could've been done better.

This movie was crazy! Definitely not like any movie i've seen before, and i've seen em all! It was spooky, it was weird, and it left me with tons of questions (which can either be a good thing or a bad thing). I think the idea of it was bizarre and cool and creepy all at the same time! Very strange, really awesome! Great for Halloween!

Boring
merle219 October 2018
The movie starts out with a 25 year old 16 year old teenager babbling nonsense with his 30 year old mom who looked the same age as him. Lots of typical teen stereotypes with not much else. I made 30 minutes and it wasn't easy.

Movie has no actual plot
pallmallpotus21 October 2018
This isn't a horror movie. To be fair, I don't generally like the horror genre, but I had a feeling that this would be more suspenseful than scary, so I decided to give it a try. It wasn't even suspenseful. It was boring. I stopped watching quite a few times, but eventually decided to see it through because I thought the end would at least give a clue as to what they director was trying to do with the film. Nope. Literally no point in watching to the end.

I think it could have been a great movie. It seems like someone had a great idea, pitched it, and then didn't know how to follow through once they got the green light on the project. Characters aren't fully developed. Plot is all over the place and inconsistent. No moral to learn. Unrealistic plot elements like a mob chasing a car and keeping up with the car. If it were truly a horror film, adding enough scare moments to please the fans of the horror genre would have made up for the anemic plot. It didn't even manage to do that much.

I guess if your kid (younger than teens -- teens will find this lame) wants to watch a "scary" movie and you are okay with them being exposed to underage drinking and implied sexual activity, you could let them watch this and spare yourself being on nightmare duty for the next week or so. Otherwise, I'd pass on this one.
