Welcome to the most dysfunctional family and friends dinner ever!
So, after picking up a new phone, Hurricane Norma returns to the hotel after her wild night out. And things are unsettled.
She not only got Romero's message that he was shot but he is in her house when she returns. He wants the flash drive and she tells him that it's out at the farm.
As he goes out to retrieve it from Gunnar, Bob finds an unwanted car in his driveway. Romero left him a gift: Marcus's dead body in the passenger seat with a note pinned to his chest saying he has withdrawn from the sheriff's race. Nice touch.
Romero gets the flash drive and has Gunnar open it up. On it are a number of files including one with a ledger that has his mother's name on it. Problem is, Romero's mother has been dead over 20 years. He goes to see Bob for an explanation and Bob tells him his father put her name on it. She has apparently been collecting his dirty drug money in a trust he set up in her name. So then Romero heads to prison to visit dear old dad, an inmate with an indeterminate accent. Romero tells him to take his name off the trust or he will kill him. He then blames his dad for his mother's suicide. Dad thanks him for a lovely visit.
Romero then proceeds to get rip-roaring drunk at a local bar. He can't drive so he asks Norma to pick him up. She puts him to bed in one of the motel rooms and, after explaining his tale of woe, he starts putting the moves on her. She seems to like it at first and then pulls away and says she's going to make dinner.
While Romero was busy on his adventure we learned:
-That the job that Chick wanted Caleb to do was gun-running. Caleb has changed his mind. But when Dylan hears the job will pay $25,000 he wants to do it. He's learned from Emma's dad that her health is worse than they thought and a hospital in Portland will move her up the transplant list for $20,000. Caleb tells Dylan not to do it. He also asks if he can come by the house sometime and Dylan says no. A sad Caleb says he understands.
-Dylan tells Norma about Norman's crazy freak out when she left the other night and how he blacked out and hallucinated that he was her and that they've ignored the problem for far too long and they must do something. Enter James Finnegan, who comes to check up on Norma. She drags him into the basement to talk to Norman as a therapist. It doesn't go well. Norman goes off on a rant about how James slept with Norma and asks how it was. James says this is inappropriate and wonders why it upsets him to think about his mother having sex. Norman notes that, aside from losing his license, it is upsetting and he wonders if James himself wouldn't be upset that someone who claimed to care for his mother than slept with her after she threw herself at him like a whore. James asks if Norman wants to sleep with Norman and Norman promptly starts choking him. As he leaves James tells Norma to get some help for Norman and now. Norma consoles a tearful Norman and says being his mother is the most important thing in her life. He says everything is changing and he doesn't like it.
-Dylan had made a date with Emma to take her to dinner but when Norma decides that what the family needs is to have dinner together he tells him to invite her over. When she goes out to cut some herbs she sees Caleb standing on the step with some wildflowers he picked for her. At first she sends him away saying they can't be friends and then she calls him back and invites him in. He sees the piano and asks if she still plays. She sits down and starts playing an old family favorite "Tonight You Belong to Me." He joins in. Dylan and Emma are touched. Norman is seething. Romero pokes his head in to say thanks and Norma insists he stay for dinner. He sits at the head of the table and Norman is getting angrier and angrier
-At dinner Norma thanks them for being here and says she always dreamed of a home when she was little where the door was open and friends could come and go and everything would be lovely. Dylan toasts to family and friends. Caleb gives a toast to Norma "who has always been like a sun in a cold universe" and for allowing them all to be together. They dig in and it seems like everyone is having a good time over the course of the meal-- chicken marsala, just something she threw together-- and they all leave table until only Norman remains.
-We cut to him in bed, staring angrily at the ceiling. He goes into Norma's room and sees her in bed in a black nightie. He looks at her body as she sleeps. He reaches out and rubs his hand over her hip.
