NBC Secures US Rights to Game Show ‘Win Win’
Image
Game shows are getting a makeover thanks to NBC. The network has secured the U.S. rights to “Win Win!” a show where every prize won in the studio will also be won by someone watching the show from their living room.

The show follows 40 contestants who are playing in studio as viewers are able to play along at home using an app. Contestants will then battle it out by answering questions based on a unique nationwide survey. Every episode will have multiple winners as the show builds to its jackpot, which will be awarded during its final episode. The series is being described as a “dynamic mix of strategy, trivia and high-stakes decision-making.”

“Win Win!” was created by Hello Dolly and recently commissioned by ITV in the U.K. The format is licensed internationally by NBCUniversal Formats, which is part of Universal Studio Group (Usg).

The Handmaid’s Tale Season 6 Episode 9 Review: Execution Is Not the End — It’s the Beginning
Image
You know it will be a landmark episode when the screener drops an hour before airtime and the spoiler note explicitly tells you not to discuss song choice or the demise of any characters.

And then the episode is titled “Execution”?

Come on. You don’t need a Gilead-approved prayer book to know we were heading straight into the fire.

Warning: Spoilers Ahead!

(Disney/Steve Wilkie)

But what I didn’t expect — even after all this time — was how personal it would feel. How heavy, how earned.

And how… exhilarating.

‘Love Me Tender’ Review: Vicky Krieps Anchors a Hard-Hitting Chronicle of Motherhood and Sexual Freedom That Overstays Its Welcome
Image
If there are two things you can say about art house ingenue Vicky Krieps, it’s that she’s the most internationally famous actor to ever emerge from the tiny European nation of Luxembourg, and that she rarely takes on roles that could be considered easy or light.

After breaking out in Phantom Thread, starring as a model who turns the tables on her abusive boss/boyfriend, she’s been drawn towards characters who are either living on the edge or going through hell. In the past three years alone, she’s played a woman stricken with a rare debilitating illness (More Than Ever); a renown Austrian poet whose life was tragically cut short (Ingeborg Bachmann — Journey into the Desert); a tight-lipped U.S. border cop who kills a migrant and tries to get away with it (The Wall); and a frontier wife who’s brutally raped, then winds up...

United States' Homeland Security in "Beginning Stages" To Launch Reality Show Where Immigrants Can Win U.S. Citizenship
Image
The Department of Homeland Security blasted a report from the Daily Mail earlier today that Dhs Secretary Kristi Noem had formally backed a new reality competition proposal that would have migrants compete for U.S. citizenship. However, that doesn't mean it's out of the question. The department is reportedly considering getting involved in the series, with Assistant Secretary Tricia McLaughlin, who called the Daily Mail's story "an affront to journalism," saying, according to The Wall Street Journal, that it was "in the very beginning stages of that vetting process." McLaughlin also confirmed that she had spoken to producer Rob Worsoff about the pitch and that it would have to go through all steps of the department's extensive vetting process before anything could move forward.

The Journal had the chance to review a 36-page slide deck that outlines the premise and format of the show. Structured similarly to a typical one-hour reality competition,...

Republican Medicaid Cuts Could Force Many Hospitals to ‘Close Their Doors’
Image
As Donald Trump and Republican lawmakers ponder how best to cut Medicaid in order to pay for new tax boons for the rich, doctors, hospital executives, and advocates are warning that changes to the nation’s health insurance program for the poor could harm patients, quickly cause rural hospitals to close, and force essential programs to shut down.

For months now, the Trump administration has been exploring ways to pay off the massive $4.5 trillion loss of tax revenue it would incur by making Trump’s 2017 tax cuts permanent. So far,...

Rejoice! Peacemaker season 2 gets a thrilling first look
Image
When Peacemaker debuted in The Suicide Squad, no one could have anticipated that the spin-off series focused on him would be as good as it was. People expected the show to be funny and the cast to be entertaining, but the depth that came with it was a welcome surprise. It's why fans were worried about its fate when Warner Bros and DC canceled a lot of projects in 2022.

After James Gunn and Peter Safran took over the DC Universe, Peacemaker’s future was in limbo. Yes, it was Gunn's show and it was already renewed by Max at that point in time, so it was in a better position than any other DC project at the time, but no one knew for certain if it would return. And if it did, would it take place in the former DC Extended Universe that it belonged to or the new Dcu that was in formation?...

CNN Hires Choire Sicha to Lead Features As It Makes Digital Subscriber Push
Image
How will the founder of The Awl make a mark at CNN?

The cable news network said Tuesday that it had hired Choire Sicha, the creator of the New York-based culture website which published daily ruminations on city weather under a motto of “Be Less Stupid,” to lead its new effort at editorial features.

Sicha, who most recently was editor at large at New York magazine and also led the Styles desk at The New York Times, will join CNN as svp of features editorial on May 19. The move marks the latest hire at the brand as it attempts to reorient itself in the online news ecosystem with an eye toward developing subscription products — a big pivot for CNN, but one seen as a necessity as the channel looks past its linear TV roots. It also signals that the news outlet aims to compete on the Times turf.

In its hiring release,...

Marvel Studios Boss Kevin Feige Reportedly Believes MCU Has Become "More Like Homework Than Entertainment"
Image
There was a time when it seemed Marvel Studios could do no wrong, but that's changed with the Multiverse Saga. The jam-packed past few years of storytelling have seen the MCU deliver its first "Rotten" movies and a handful of box office flops.

There have been more hits than misses, but it's all played into the "superhero fatigue" narrative some Hollywood insiders are eager to peddle. Fans, meanwhile, have expressed disappointment with many creative decisions and a general inconsistency in quality and connectivity.

Marvel Studios is looking to right the ship, with Daredevil: Born Again and Thunderbolts* serving as the first offerings from the post-overhaul MCU.

After being a good soldier and agreeing to produce as much content as possible for Disney+, Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige is getting more hands-on and out to ensure the MCU returns to quality over quantity.

An article from The Wall Street Journal has shared additional insights into that,...

After On-Set Tragedy and Controversial Release, Alec Baldwin's Western Gets Unfortunate Rotten Tomatoes Score
Image
Alec Baldwin's latest film, Rust, has just hit theaters. However, the film had been long in the making following the fatal shooting accident on set and the controversial release.

Rust has officially released in theaters on May 2, and it's already not a favorite. The Western, which was written and directed by Joel Souza, stars Baldwin in the leading role, besides his role as co-writer and producer. As Rust hit theaters, the movie debuted with an unfortunate score of 56% from the critics on Rotten Tomatoes, which makes the movie considered "rotten." After this debut score, the number has begun to sink lower.

Rust had its world premiere last year on Nov. 20, 2024, at the Camerimage Festival in Poland, but to smaller audiences. The movie's release at the festival was also controversial, as Hutchins' former cinematography peers were wondering if premiering the movie was the right thing. Now, the movie is officially...

“It’s sometimes hard”: George R.R. Martin’s Struggle With The Winds of Winter Only Got Worse With the Rise of His Popularity
Image
Fans have almost given up hope on George R.R. Martin completing the A Song of Ice and Fire series. Martin had announced two more books in the saga: The Winds of Winter and A Dream of Spring. He started working on the sixth book just before the premiere of HBO’s Game of Thrones. However, even after more than a decade, Martin hasn’t been able to finish the book.

The author keeps committing to new movie and TV projects, which have frustrated fans of the book series. However, Martin is clearly struggling with the book. The popularity of the TV series also brought an increasing number of ridiculous expectations to the book. With the TV show finale failing to impress the audience, Martin has just lost confidence in his work.

“We would be in a trench… of snow and ice”: The Wall and The Night’s Watch in GoT Were Inspired by George R.R. Martin’s Freshman Year at Northwestern University
Image
We know that many elements in Game of Thrones were based on real events and inspired by historical landmarks from different places, and if you’re a fan of House Stark, you might be curious about the backstory of how George R.R. Martin came up with the idea of The Wall and the famous Night’s Watch.

For eight seasons, the men up North spent their days gearing up for the apocalyptic coming of winter. They manned The Wall, patrolled the area outside of it looking for potential danger, and above all, kept it intact. So, what inspired the author to create this majestic 700-foot-tall block of ice?

The ultimate destination for adult animation is hiding in plain sight
Image
With hits from ‘The Simpsons’ to ‘Solar Opposites,’ Hulu has quietly built the strongest animated lineup on streaming.

Animated comedies are my comfort food. When life’s chaotic, there’s nothing better than sinking into the couch and putting on an episode of “The Simpsons.” That show has literally been around as long as I have, and it’s still going strong. Then came “Family Guy” about a decade later, and even though the tone is way different, it quickly earned a spot on my go-to list. Between those two, you’ve basically got the blueprint for modern animated comedy. And the best part? They’re both streaming on Hulu, along with a ridiculous number of other hits from FX and Fox. If animated sitcoms are your thing, there’s really no better place to stream. Here’s why Hulu’s the best of the bunch for streaming animated comedy TV shows.

Miley Cyrus Would Rather Live for Nostalgia in ‘End of the World’ Video

Miley Cyrus is leaving behind her anxieties and choosing optimism instead. On Thursday, the pop queen released her nostalgia-inducing new single “End of the World,” accompanied by a sexy and retro performance video.

The “End of the World” visual opens with Cyrus performing on a soundstage reminiscent of her now-iconic 2024 Grammys performance. The video flashes between different shots of the singer lying in front of a drum set wearing an emerald green minidress as she feels herself.

Miley Cyrus Drops “End of the World,” Lead Single from ‘Something Beautiful’ Visual Album
Image
Miley Cyrus has released “End of the World,” the lead single from her upcoming visual album, Something Beautiful, the follow-up to 2023’s Endless Summer Vacation. “End of the World” is decidedly more pop-friendly than the two cuts from Something Beautiful that Cyrus previewed earlier this week, the spoken-word “Prelude” and the title track, an intermittently explosive, prog-rock ballad.

Accompanied by a rollicking midtempo beat, live strings, and ’70s-coded piano chords, “End of the World” finds Cyrus pining for her lover in a pre-apocalyptic landscape: “Someday you woke and you told me wanted to cry/The sky was fallin’ like a comet on the Fourth of July.” The lyrics also make nods to Malibu, a city close to Cyrus’s heart, and the Beatles: “[Let’s] throw a party like McCartney with some help from my friends,” the singer quips.

Inspired by Pink Floyd’s 1982 rock opera The Wall “but with a...

Miley Cyrus Sets the Stage for “Something Beautiful” With Release of First Two Songs From Upcoming Album
Image
Miley Cyrus has set the stage for “Something Beautiful.”

The Grammy-winning singer has released videos for the first two songs — “Prelude” and “Something Beautiful” — off of her upcoming album Something Beautiful.

The clips, dropped hours apart on Monday, show Cyrus in dramatic ensembles performing moody tracks.

Befitting its name, the shorter “Prelude” serves as somewhat of an introduction to the album, as she shares spoken word existential thoughts over intensifying instrumentals over brief images of flowers interspersed with written lyrics.

“Like when following an image from a train, your eyes can’t keep the passing landscapes from being swallowed into endless distance,” she says. “Like when holding a fistful of ashes, your hands can’t save the things that have already been dissolved into air.”

Cyrus ultimately appears, wearing the same archival 1997 Thierry Mugler couture she sports on the album artwork, which was shot by fashion photographer Glen Luchford. “The...

Miley Cyrus Reveals Explosive New Song “Something Beautiful”: Stream
Image
Miley Cyrus is back to share the first new songs from her upcoming album Something Beautiful: “Prelude” and title track “Something Beautiful.”

Though “Prelude” is mostly composed of orchestral, psychedelic arpeggios, widescreen synths, and Cyrus reading a spoken-word poem, “Something Beautiful” doubles down on the drama; the track begins with a patient, jazzy waltz and eventually bursts into an explosive chorus, with Cyrus’ voice slightly manipulated as she coos between pummeling hits from the band. Towards the end, the groove collapses into a psychedelic meltdown, with Cyrus howling “LA-di-da-da-da” across wailing guitars, burning synths, and crashing drums.

The pair of songs both arrive with music videos, building out the visual world of Something Beautiful; Cyrus previously named Pink Floyd’s The Wall as a major inspiration point for the new project, taking the album’s sweeping, conceptual drama and imbuing it with “a better wardrobe and more glamorous and filled with pop culture.

9 ‘The Simpsons’ Episodes Dropped From Broadcast
Image
Fans of The Simpsons have a new way to enjoy Fox’s hit animated series: Disney+ recently added a 24-hour, 7-days-a-week livestream of Simpsons episodes to its offerings. In an announcement about the livestream, Disney says it’ll stream 767 episodes from Season 1 to Season 35 in chronological order at launch, totaling nearly 300 continuous hours of TV. The Simpsons had aired 768 episodes by the end of Season 35, however, meaning one episode isn’t included in the livestream, and we have a hunch it’s Season 3’s “Stark Raving Dad.” Read on to read more about that installment and others dropped from broadcast, either in the United States or other countries. “Stark Raving Dad” The Simpsons’ executive producers removed Season 3’s “Stark Raving Dad” from circulation in 2019 due to the involvement of Michael Jackson, who voiced a character who believed himself to be Michael Jackson in the episode. The Sopranos Subtly Revealed the Truth About a Major Villain (But Most Fans Missed the Reveal)
Image
The Sopranos may have looked like a simple crime drama when it first premiered on HBO in 1999, but the series quickly established itself as one of the smartest shows on TV, and still remains a classic today. Celebrated for its use of mob-story tropes to explore philosophy, politics, religion, and other deep and complex subjects, it featured brilliant writing and phenomenal performances, full of subtlety and symbolism. Nearly two decades after The Sopranos ended, fans still enjoy going back to find hidden meanings and covert messages buried in various episodes. One of the greatest examples of an episode with easily missed subtext is "Whoever Did This," which came in the middle of Season 4.

On the surface, the episode deals primarily with Tony's captain, Ralph Cifaretto, and portrays him in a relatively sympathetic fashion. Careful examination and a knowledge of classic rock, however, reveals an added layer to the story that emphasizes Ralph's fundamentally evil nature.

Miley Cyrus Drops Trailer for ‘Something Beautiful’ Film Accompanying New Album: “A One of a Kind Pop Opera”
Image
A new Miley Cyrus visual album is on the way, as Cyrus released a trailer on Tuesday for an accompanying film for her upcoming ninth studio album Something Beautiful.

The trailer calls the new film “a unique visual experience fueled by fantasy” and a “one of a kind pop opera.” It’ll be scored by 13 songs from the album. The Something Beautiful album itself drops on May 30, and the film will come out some time in June.

Cyrus had indicated in an interview with Harper’s Bazaar back in November that Something Beautiful would be a visual album, with Cyrus saying her concept for the project was inspired by Pink Floyd’s 1979 classic The Wall. “We really leaned in. And so I have this heart-first attachment to it,” Cyrus told the outlet at the time. “My idea was making The Wall, but with a better wardrobe and more glamorous and filled with pop culture.

Something Beautiful is now available for pre-order with a number of CD, vinyl, and box set packages.

“Captured by renowned fashion photographer Glen Luchford, the album artwork features Miley Cyrus draped in archival 1997 Thierry Mugler couture, a striking nod to the album’s bold aesthetic and visual storytelling,” she shared via social media.

Though Cyrus has promised new tracks in Something Beautiful, the aesthetic of the album artwork isn’t unlike that of The Last Showgirl, for which Cyrus contributed an original song titled “Beautiful That Way.

However, despite the overwhelming response, some fans have expressed dissatisfaction, particularly regarding the show’s filming locations. Sheridan, known for using his own ranches in production, sparked debate after 1923 Season 2 moved its filming location to Texas.

The shift has led to speculation that Sheridan is profiting by using his personal ranches, potentially resulting in extended and unnecessary plotlines. So, what’s really going on behind the scenes of the hit western series?

The conspiracy theory surrounding Taylor Sheridan’s 1923 Season 2

Since its premiere, 1923 Season 2 has been a hot topic among fans eager to see what’s next for Jacob and Cara Dutton as they navigate life on their Montana ranch.

James Bond’s New Caretakers: Amy Pascal and David Heyman Eyed to Oversee 007 Franchise
Image
James Bond has some new caretakers. Former Sony Pictures chief and producer of the “Spider-Man” and “Spider-Verse” films Amy Pascal and “Harry Potter” and “Gravity” producer David Heyman are being eyed to oversee the 007 franchise for Amazon MGM Studios with Barbara Broccoli and Michael G. Wilson ceding control, IndieWire has learned.

Pascal and Heyman are just in talks at the moment, as the deal reported last month between Amazon MGM and the Broccolis is still being finalized. Amazon MGM had no comment.

Amazon MGM on February 20 announced it was forming a new joint venture to house the James Bond IP, with the studio obtaining creative control of the franchise. Broccoli has been the main caretaker of the franchise’s direction for decades, along with her half-brother Wilson.

The last Bond film to hit the screen was “No Time to Die” in 2021, the final entry starring Daniel Craig, who only...

Kat Dennings Says ‘Shifting Gears’ with Tim Allen Gave Her Hope: ‘The Sitcom Is Needed Right Now’
Image
American politics may be a nonstop car crash right now, but wrapping “Shifting Gears” Season 1, Kat Dennings sounded hopeful. A self-described “curmudgeon,” the actress returned to the multi-cam format this spring opposite Tim Allen for ABC’s odd-couple comedy — about a father and daughter reuniting from across opposite sides of the aisle.

“I’m not what you call a super positive person,” Dennings told IndieWire after filming the season finale. “I kind of expect the worst, and then I’m pleasantly surprised. I don’t know. It’s a bad tactic. I need therapy. But I wasn’t expecting this kind of harmony on set.”

At 38, Dennings has spent nearly three decades working in film and TV. From playing Samantha Jones’ snottiest client on “Sex and the City” to co-starring in six seasons of the smash-hit “2 Broke Girls” on CBS, the veteran performer has seen her share of episodic productions.

‘Snow White’: What the Critics Are Saying
Image
Ahead of the wide release of Disney’s Snow White, the film’s first reviews from critics have been rolling in on Wednesday, and they’ve been decidedly mixed.

Directed by Marc Webb, the live-action adaptation of the 1937 Disney animated classic Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs sees a princess, Snow White (Rachel Zegler), join forces with seven dwarfs to liberate her kingdom from her cruel stepmother, the Evil Queen (Gal Gadot).

For years, the film has been under fire for a combination of controversies, including Zegler’s casting and her opinionated remarks about the original animated film. The star also drew heat for her hostile reaction to Donald Trump’s re-election (she later apologized) and her pro-Palestine stance. People on social media have also attempted to paint a feuding narrative between Zegler and Gadot, the latter of which has spoken out against antisemitism and advocated for the release of Israeli hostages in Gaza.

Trump Trashes E.U., Threatens Massive Tariff on Alcohol
Image
President Donald Trump is threatening to levy a 200-percent tariff on wine and liquor products imported from the European Union after the alliance levied its own tariff on American whiskey products — the latest in a tit for tat tax battle with Trump.

“If this Tariff is not removed immediately, the U.S. will shortly place a 200% Tariff on all Wines, Champagnes, & Alcoholic Products Coming Out Of France And Other E.U. Represented Countries,” Trump wrote Thursday on Truth Social. “This will be great for the Wine and Champagne businesses in the U.

“I don’t care what it costs, get rid of her”: Jeff Bezos Reportedly Ordered Barbara Broccoli Out of James Bond After She Called Amazon Execs ‘F**king Idiots’
Image
The James Bond film media franchise has been a long ongoing one, starting from 1962’s Dr. No under Cubby Broccoli’s supervision down to the most recent from 2021, No Time to Die, under producers Barbara Broccoli and Michael G. Wilson. But now the ownership for Bond has inevitably changed ships as it was recently sold by Broccoli and Wilson to Jeff Bezos’ Amazon.

However, following this latest turn of events, Bezos doesn’t seem to be all that happy with Broccoli in the first place. To say the least, the latest reports are claiming that the CEO of Amazon ostensibly stumbled across Broccoli’s quote where she called Amazon executives “f–ing idiots,” following which he reportedly ordered her to be out of Bond irrespective of whatever it may cost.

ESPN’s New Five-Year Deal With Stephen A. Smith Makes Him a $100 Million Man
Image
Stephen A. Smith may not have much to do with the many games telecast on ESPN but he’s being paid as if he is.

The “First Take” host, known for his unfiltered sports commentary and soaring oratorical skills, has signed a new five-year deal with the Disney-backed sports giant, according to a person familiar with the matter, which is seen paying him as much as $20 million per year.

The Athletic previously reported that Smith and ESPN had come to new terms. Variety reported in December that the sports outlet and Smith’s representatives were moving closer to an agreement.

ESPN declined to comment, as did WME, the talent agency which represents the sportscaster.

The deal keeps one of ESPN’s signature voices at the network at a time when Smith is looking to extend his influence. He has tried his hand at an independent podcast, and has been making appearances on Fox News Channel,...

Liam Neeson's 'The Marksman' Is Surprisingly Accurate in One Specific Way
Image
While Liam Neeson remains a compelling big-screen presence, Neeson’s action-hero persona has become increasingly derivative over the past decade. The standard Neeson action vehicle has Neeson playing a reluctant avenger or hero who employs a specific set of skills to neutralize his enemies and protect the people whom he cares about. Neeson has now acted within this formula for approximately 15 years, ever since the box-office success of the first Taken film changed the trajectory of Neeson’s career.

This formula is embodied most clearly in the 2021 action film The Marksman, in which Neeson plays a widowed Arizona rancher and former United States Marine Corps sniper who agrees to help a young boy escape a Mexican drug cartel. While The Marksman is mediocre and predictable in virtually every respect, the film is most distinguished in terms of how clearly Neeson’s character’s military sniper training is visible in Neeson’s performance,...

Trump’s Least Favorite Writer — “a Total Loser” — Gets the Last Word (Again) With ‘All or Nothing’
Image
It’s been four years since Michael Wolff wrote a book about President Donald Trump. His last was 2021’s Landslide, which he wrote right after 2019’s Siege: Trump Under Fire, which, of course, came out just a year after the publication of his blockbuster page-turner Fire and Fury in 2018.

Today, we’re getting the not-so-long-awaited All or Nothing, which details the backroom shenanigans behind how 45 managed against all odds to get elected 47. Trump may not be one of Wolff’s biggest fans — “a total Loser,” the president raged on Truth Social last weekend — but The Hollywood Reporter has seen some early pages detailing Trump’s on-again-off-again relationship with News Corp mogul Rupert Murdoch, and Wolff does, as always, spill the tea.

You’ll probably recall how Murdoch turned on Trump after Jan. 6, only to have second thoughts after it became clear that Trump could actually get back into the White House.

Roger Waters Defamed Filmmaker With Antisemitic Remarks, Court Finds
Image
A London high court has found that statements from Pink Floyd cofounder Roger Waters accusing a documentary filmmaker of “cheerleading the genocide of Palestinians” and acting as a “Zionist mouthpiece” during an Al Jazeera interview are defamatory.

Justice Jennifer Eady on Tuesday concluded that Waters was making a statement of fact, blocking him from arguing that the assertions were intended to be opinions. The ruling deciding preliminary issues in the case advances the lawsuit toward trial. “The statements are defamatory of the claimant at common law,” she wrote.

Waters was sued last year by John Ware, who produced the documentary The Dark Side of Roger Waters, over comments he made on Al Jazeera’s The Stream. The documentary explored allegations of antisemitism surrounding Waters. It features interviews from figures across his career, including Norbert Stachel, Waters’ former saxophone player, and Bob Ezrin, the producer of Pink Floyd’s The Wall.

The Broccoli Family Protected James Bond For Generations – Amazon Won't Be As Kind
Image
When last we checked in on the state of the James Bond franchise, the situation was dire. According to a grim December 2024 report from The Wall Street Journal, Bond rights holder Amazon MGM Studios was at loggerheads with producers Barbara Broccoli and Michael G. Wilson, who controlled the creative destiny of the character. While Amazon, which acquired the property when it bought MGM in 2022, was keen to build out a James Bond extended universe, with films and television shows focusing on longtime supporting characters like M's secretary Miss Moneypenny, Broccoli and Wilson saw no reason to deviate from a 62-year-old formula that had only required minor tweaks in the face of major social and political upheaval. Nevertheless, Amazon kept pressing the reluctant producers with algorithm-generated notions about growing the brand creatively, leading Broccoli to reportedly exclaim "These people are f****** idiots."

Alas, the "f****** idiots" are now in charge.

“This is a mistake that could sink the whole film”: Matt Damon’s Past 2 Flops Should Be a Red Flag for Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey Casting?
Image
Not many collaborations ignite as much buzz as the one between director Christopher Nolan and actor Matt Damon. Their previous projects have impressed audiences and their latest film together, i.e. The Odyssey could possibly do the same.

Matt Damon as Gardner in Suburbicon | Paramount Pictures, and Black Bear Pictures

Is Matt Damon the right choice to play the lead in The Odyssey? Matt Damon in The Wall | Universal Pictures

In December 2024, it was announced that Christopher Nolan’s next directorial would be an adaptation of Homer’s The Odyssey, and Matt Damon would play the titular Greek hero, Odysseus. But the actor’s previous performances in...

Doge Staffer Marko Elez Resigns After Being Linked To A Racist Social Media Account, Elon Musk Vows To Rehire Him
Image
Marko Elez, a former staff member of the Department of Government Efficiency (Doge), resigned from the organization after he was connected to a racist social media account.

Elez, who once worked at X and SpaceX, had been working inside the Treasury Department to cut costs and root out fraud as part of Elon Musk‘s Doge effort.

He was one of the two temporary special government appointees at the Treasury connected to Doge, who were given access to a highly sensitive Treasury system that processes trillions of dollars in payments each year.

His access to the Treasury payment system raised alarms over whether or not sensitive data, such as the banking information of millions of Americans, is being shared with Musk and his allies.

According to The Wall Street Journal, 2024 posts from a now-deleted account, going under the name @nullllptr, were connected to Elez on X. These posts consisted mostly...

Image
The Vice President and Elon Musk, the de-facto head of government under Donald Trump, are tag teaming on social media to promote the reinstatement of Marko Elez, a key Musk deputy who departed his post inside the Treasury Department amid a Wall Street Journal exposé linking him to racist social media posts, including the boast: “I was racist before it was cool.”

Elez, a 25-year-old programmer and alum of Musk’s rocket company SpaceX, has been at the center of the so-called Department of Government Efficiency’s intrusion into sensitive payments systems at Treasury.

‘The View’ Cohosts Blame Trump Voters for Trade War Chaos: ‘He Told Us This Was Going to Happen’
Image
As the stock market reeled from Donald Trump’s tariffs against trading partners Canada, China, and Mexico, and the U.S.’s national anthem is booed in (former?) allies’ arenas, the cohosts of The View had some finger-pointing to do on Monday’s (February 3) live show. “I’ve never seen anything like that in my life,” Whoopi Goldberg said after reviewing the footage of fans at the Toronto Raptors NBA game booing “The Star Spangled Banner.” And I have to say, even the conservative media is warning about the price Americans are going to pay for this…. Everybody said, ‘This is a bad idea. This a bad idea. This a bad idea.'” Alyssa Farah Griffin, the resident Republican of the panel, was the first to respond. “So Republicans have long been against tariffs, and there’s a reason The Wall Street Journal, Rupert Murdoch’s [newspaper] is calling this ‘the dumbest trade war in history.

‘Dumbest Trade War In History’: Wall Street Journal Skewers Donald Trump Over Massive Canada/Mexico Tariffs
Donald Trump
President Donald Trump’s latest round of retaliatory tariffs against America’s top three trading partners has been met with scathing criticism from The Wall Street Journal Editorial Board, which labeled the move the start of the ‘dumbest trade war in history.’

The Journal, known for its conservative leanings and deep coverage of economic issues, criticized Trump’s tariffs on Mexico, Canada, and China, stating they ‘make no sense.’ Trump announced that a 25% tariff on Canadian and Mexican imports, along with a 10% levy on Chinese goods, would take effect on Tuesday. These three nations accounted for roughly 40% of U.S. imports last year.

Dumbest Trade War In History: Wall Street Journal Trashes Donald Trump Over Canada/Mexico Tariffs

Two days after the blistering editorial, Trump fired back, calling the Journal ‘always wrong’ and part of the ‘Tariff Lobby.’ In a Truth Social post, he claimed the newspaper was defending countries that have,...

Is Real Time with Bill Maher new tonight, January 31? What to expect tonight on HBO
Image
We're ready to close the books on an eventful January. But one late-night TV show still has to have its say about what happened this month: Real Time with Bill Maher.

The month has given late-night TV a lot to talk about, including the January 6 anniversary and subsequent pardons, Donald Trump's inauguration, the string of executive orders, the LA wildfires, and the deadly airplane crash in Washington, D.C.

What Bill Maher will choose to talk about is anyone's guess. But the good news for fans is that there will be a brand-new episode of Real Time with Bill Maher tonight, January 31.

It's likely Maher will join other late-night TV hosts by responded to Trump's theory that Dei initiatives played a role in the collision between an Army helicopter and a commercial flight. The confirmation hearings for Robert F. Kennedy, Jr., Kash Patel, and Tulsi Gabbard are likely also on the table.
