The curse appears to be continuing this year, with high-profile bombs such as Wolf Man and Heart Eyes getting the ball rolling for The Woman in the Yard to under-perform as well. Blumhouse Productions' The Woman in the Yard passes a major milestone at the box office less than two weeks into its theatrical run.

Per ScreenRant, The Woman in the Yard has pushed past the $15 million mark at the box office, reaching upwards of $16.5 million in domestic ticket sales as of the time of writing. This might not make the film a demonstrable success as of yet, although it more than covers The Woman in the Yard's $12 million production budget.

Writer and director Leigh Whannell has had an impressive streak in filmography over the past few years. Besides boasting influential and successful screenwriting credits on films like the first three original Sawmovies and the first two Insidious movies, Whannell has also directed some unique (and violent) films. The director would turn his attention to a classic Universal Monsters IP in 2020, writing and directing The Invisible Man reboot for Universal and Blumhouse. Universal Pictures owns the rights to some of the most iconic villains, which the studio named the "Universal Monsters." However, it has yet to find its rhythm with the recent adaptations.

Universal was planning to launch the Dark Universe, which was set to debut with 2017's The Mummy, and create an McU-like joint universe that would feature characters like Wolf Man, Dracula, The Invisible Man, and more. However, following the release of The Mummy and its poor reception, Universal canceled the universe. Leigh Whannell later revived the plans following the success of his 2020's The Invisible Man, and returned to the universe with 2025's Wolf Man. Following a disappointing box office run, Wolf Man will be heading on streaming on Apr. 18 on Peacock.

Steven Spielberg's film, which is considered the first ever summer blockbuster, has lost none of its power to terrify over the years, and also happens to boast three unforgettable lead performances from Robert Shaw, Roy Schneider and Richard Dreyfus.

Empire Magazine is marking 5 decades of people being genuinely terrified of setting foot in the ocean with a series of interviews with those within the industry who have been most influenced by Jaws.

Fright-Rags has added three Universal Monsters to its mini mask line: Frankenstein, The Wolf Man, and Creature from the Black Lagoon.

Sculpted by John Tatarelli Jr., the vintage-inspired vacuform plastic masks are approximately 5.5″ tall and 4″ wide — about half the size of a classic mask.

They’re packaged in retro-style display boxes designed by Kyle Crawford that measure 6.75″ high, 5.5″ wide, and 2.75″ deep.

Each limited edition collectible costs $20.

Boris Karloff stomped into the role of The Monster in 1931’s Frankenstein, Lon Chaney Jr. transformed for the part of Larry Talbot in 1941’s The Wolfman, and the Gill Man in 1954’s Creature from the Black Lagoon was played by Ben Chapman on land and by Ricou Browning underwater.

Peacock announced on Friday that Wolf Man, its modern take on the classic monster story starring Christopher Abbott and Julia Garner, will begin streaming exclusively on the service on April 18.

There, the film joins The Invisible Man — from Wolf Man helmer Leigh Whannell — as well as the recent Halloween films and such other popular horror titles as The Black Phone and Five Nights at Freddy’s.

One of this year's most unexpected theatrical hits has gone on to become a hit on streaming as well. "One of Them Days," a comedy from Sony Pictures starring Keke Palmer ("Nope") and musical artist Sza recently made its way to Netflix and has been rapidly ascending the streamer's most-watched movies chart. Director Lawrence Lamont's latest is now right up there with the likes of "Den of Thieves 2: Pantera" and "Despicable Me 4" as one of the biggest movies on Netflix at the moment.

As of this writing, "One of Them Days" is sitting in the number two spot on Netflix's movie charts, just behind the Netflix original "The Life List," per FlixPatrol. What's important to note here is that the comedy only just recently arrived in the streamer, and it shot right near the top of the charts.

So far, plot details have been tightly guarded for writer-director Zach Cregger‘s mysterious follow-up to Barbarian, Weapons. That is, until now. New footage was previewed tonight at CinemaCon, reported by Variety, revealing new story clues.

New Line Cinema will release Weapons in theaters August 8, 2025.

Interestingly, the only information we’ve had for Weapons was the description that Cregger’s latest is “a multi and inter-related story horror epic that tonally is in the vein of Magnolia, the 1999 actor-crammed showcase from filmmaker Paul Thomas Anderson.” An unexpected reference for a horror movie.

Variety described the reel shown to the CinemaCon crowd, indicating something in the vein of Children of the Corn, with Wolf Man‘s Julia Garner starring as an elementary school teacher who arrives to work one morning only to find her entire class of kids went missing the night before.

Hot off the success of Carry-On, which was released in December and delivered the top debut for any Netflix film in 2024, director Jaume Collet-Serra delivered his first theatrical release in three years, The Woman in the Yard. Produced by horror specialists Blumhouse and distributed by Universal, the movie secured a spot in the top five list at the domestic box office, but it wasn't able to crack double digits. Collet-Serra's last theatrical film was the mega-budget misfire Black Adam, which generated around $390 million worldwide against a reported budget of almost $300 million.

It marked his second outing with star Dwayne Johnson, following the adventure film Jungle Cruise, which was released day-and-date on the Disney+ streaming service during the pandemic, under-performing with around $220 million worldwide against a reported budget of $200 million. Disney’s “Snow White” is sinking fast at the box office, so much so that Amazon MGM’s “A Working Man” has taken No. 1 from it this weekend with a $15.2 million opening from 3,262 theaters compared to a $14.2 million second weekend for the Rachel Zegler-starring remake.

Heading into the weekend, “Snow White” was projected for a second weekend of $16-18 million, with some optimistic projections topping out at $20 million. “A Working Man” was projected for $10-12 million.

Instead, “A Working Man” has nearly matched the $16 million opening of star Jason Statham’s last film, “The Beekeeper” in January 2024. As expected, the film skewed 60% male and, while getting mixed critical reviews, has earned mostly positive reception from audiences with a B on CinemaScore and an 84% overall positive rating on PostTrak.

The film will now try to match the $66.2 million domestic/$162.6 million global total of “The Beekeeper” against its reported $40 million budget produced by Black Bear.

Blumhouse just can't catch a break these days when it comes to how critics react to their films. All but one of their 2024 releases were universally panned by movie pundits, with James Watkins' Speak No Evil being the exception. 2025 hasn't been so hot, either, as Wolf Man was yet another divisive release from the famed production studio, and it seems that trend is continuing with their latest horror offering, The Woman in the Yard.

Directed by Jaume Collet-Serra, The Woman in the Yard stars Danielle Deadwyler as Ramona, a grieving widow who must care for her children all by herself in a rural farmhouse. One day, a lone, spectral woman shrouded entirely in black appears on the family's front lawn without explanation and warns them, "Today's the day." Like most Blumhouse movies, the premise seems interesting, but according to its recently revealed Rotten Tomatoes score, The Woman in the Yard...

The Wheel of Time's Laia Costa is set to star in Lee Cronin's The Mummy. Atomic Monster/Blumhouse are producing the film, which has just started shooting in Ireland.

Details about the new Mummy adaptation are being kept under wraps, but the film is being written and directed by Cronin. Jason Blum and James Wan are producing under Blumhouse Productions and Atomic Monster, joining forces with Cronin's own production company Doppelgängers. Costa joins the previously announced Jack Reynor in the film, but details about either actor's roles have not been revealed at this time. It is set for release on April 17, 2026.

Principal photography for The Mummy began in early March in Ireland and Spain. The film will be the first in the decades-spanning Mummy franchise to be distributed by New Line Cinema, with Universal Pictures usually handling the property as part of its Universal Classic Monsters banner.

Last Breath, the disaster thriller starring Woody Harrelson and Simu Liu, has passed another milestone at the domestic box office. Despite dropping 61% and earning only $887,000 during its fourth full weekend in theaters, Last Breath has now passed $20 million domestically. The film has yet to break into international markets and find success, currently sitting at an overseas total of only $981,000. At the time of writing, Last Breath is the 13th highest-grossing movie of the year at the domestic box office, finishing ahead of the international juggernaut Na Zhe 2 but still behind Wolf Man and Companion (Jack Quaid). It is also one of the top 50 highest-grossing movies ever for Focus Features, surpassing The Holdovers (2023) and The Eagle (2011).

Last Breath began its theatrical run with a $7.8 million opening, which was enough to make it the second-highest-grossing movie of the weekend, falling short of Captain America: Brave New World’s $14.8 million but finishing ahead of The Monkey’s $6.4 million.

The newest Mummy film has recruited one of the stars from the Transformers franchise as its new lead, but it doesn't sound like he will be the titular Monster. In December 2024, shortly before the release of Nosferatu and Wolf Man, it was announced that Evil Dead Rise director Lee Cronin was set to make TheMummy reboot for the newly combined Blumhouse and Atomic Monster. However, Cronin's take on the character would not be an official Universal Monster: instead, a version was created for New Line Cinema, the same studio behind Evil Dead Rise.

Deadline now reports that Jack Reynor has been cast in the lead role for The Mummy. The Deadline story states that Reynor is not expected to wear the mummy bandages, implying he will be the human protagonist that the Mummy terrorizes. Jacy Reynor is set to go toe-to-toe with the walking undead, as he has landed the lead in New Line Cinema’s “The Mummy,” from “Evil Dead Rise” director Lee Cronin and Atomic Monster and Blumhouse.

Production begins next week in Ireland, ahead of its April 17, 2026 release date. Plot details are being kept secret, although Reynor is reportedly a husband and father who goes up against the titular creep.

This will be the third modernized monster movie that producer Jason Blum and Blumhouse has tackled, after making “The Invisible Man” and “Wolf Man,” both directed by Leigh Whannell, for Universal Pictures, the studio most closely associated with the classic monsters.

Gerard Butler’s latest movie arrived on streaming this weekend and wasted no time becoming a success. Den of Thieves 2: Pantera hit Netflix on Friday, and while it had other films such as Kraven the Hunter (Aaron Taylor-Johnson) and The Electric State (Chris Pratt) to contend with, it still had no trouble becoming the #1 most popular movie on the streamer. This comes after the film debuted in theaters in January and underperformed at the box office, finishing its global run with only $56 million against a $40 million budget. The first Den of Thieves grossed over $80 million globally, and although its sequel earned the strongest scores from both critics and audiences on Rotten Tomatoes, it failed to achieve the same box office success.

Following a successful reinvention of The Invisible Man, writer-director Leigh Whannell set his sights on another classic Universal monster with Wolf Man.

After Osgood Perkins found extraordinary success with his last outing, Longlegs, expectations were incredibly high for The Monkey. The Theo James and Tatiana Maslany-led horror film has now spent two full weekends in theaters, long enough to help it reach $30 million globally, with $24.6 million coming from domestic earnings and $5.5 million coming from international markets. This $30 million total is enough to move The Monkey past Heart Eyes to become one of the top 10 biggest movies of the year thus far at the worldwide box office. The Monkey also has the potential to climb even further in the rankings, as both Wolf Man and Companion are winding down with $34 million globally, a mark The Monkey could reach before the end of the weekend.

The werewolf sub-genre has gotten a lot of love lately. Between last year's Werewolves and this year's Wolf Man remake from Universal, horror fans have had a handful of new nightmares to howl over. Horror movies can be hit or miss at the box office — some films like Terrifier 3 come in and defy expectations, grossing exponentially more than its budget, while others like Wolf Man fail to break even. One film that finds itself somewhere in between the two is Heart Eyes, the slasher horror film starring Jordana Brewster and Mason Gooding. Heart Eyes earned $2.8 million this weekend at the box office, which was enough to help the film pass the $25 million mark domestically. Heart Eyes has also earned a little over $2 billion at the international box office, which, when paired with its $26.7 million domestic total, gives the film a $28.9 million global gross. Heart Eyes was written by Phillip Murphy, Christopher Landon, and Michael Kennedy, and Josh Ruben directed the film.

It takes a lot for a film to disappoint me, but a surefire way is when a movie has a promising setup that doesn't match its execution. The most recent case of this happening is Wolf Man, the Leigh Whannell-directed remake of Universal's classic horror film. The cast included talented names like Christopher Abbott and Julia Garner, and Whannell had already proved that he could do a great update of a classic horror icon with 2020's The Invisible Man. But poor reviews combined with an abysmal box office gross is nothing to howl at the moon over. What makes Wolf Man's failure sting even more is that it started out as something genuinely interesting — when it had a different star attached. None other than Ryan Gosling would have become the titular Wolf Man, but a number of shakeups led to the version that eventually hit theaters. So,...
