Very low budget, but extremely well done and realistic. A very disturbing film.

Just watched "Pig Pen", a 2015 very low budget indie film. This is without doubt, one of the most depressing movies I've seen. The story revolved around a young kid and his drug addicted Mom, and a sadistic boyfriend of the Mother. This is not for the faint of heart, what this kid goes through, is just flat out sick. But, the overall movie is done very very good, and even with the sickening subject matter, it succeeds by being very realistic and the graphic nature of the violence. Even though the whole movie is one big downer, it is done extremely well, and could very well be a sadistic crime on your late night news.

Well it certainly took a turn

I'm writing this review with the movie's budget in mind- Are there some scenes where the acting was subpar? Yes. Could some of the filmography and special effects have been better? Sure, if you have the budget. Is it a bit one dimensional at times? Certainly. With that being said, I still thought the movie was entertaining. Started off a bit slow; if I had went into it without doing any research, I would've thought it was a drama about a dysfunctional household. However, the third act of the movie definitely threw me off- not because it was totally unpredictable, but it went from being a sad story of a neglected child, to a graphically violent thriller. It's not the best, it's not the worst, but I can undoubtedly say that with the money available, they made it work, and they made it work relatively well. Would love to see another film from this director if he has even double the budget of this movie.

As grim as it gets

Strange little movie this is. Begins like a rather depressing kind of social drama but it ends with a punch in the stomach due of some very nasty violence. It's about a kid roaming the (depressing) streets and his mom. Trouble begins when the mom, a drug addict but rather caring mom, takes a new man in the house, a plain right psychopath. The film has this cheap looking thing about it. But that only helps the dreadful atmosphere this film is bathing in. Acting is kind of wooden and some dialogue scenes are simply to long, but like I said the end is a punch in the stomach. Not for everybody but those who are searching for something original and daring: give this film a try.

Dark and depressing tale

This movie is one dark and depressing story about a young boy and his mother and her violent boyfriend and what happens to them all over the course of a few days.

A lot of the story is told in flashbacks; that illuminate the decisions that the boy and his mother make to try and survive in a cruel world.

The story is actually very well acted and well told; but anyone looking for an uplifting story better look elsewhere.

A solid 5 out of 10 for the quality of the story.

solid dark low budget creepy drama

my vote is 6.5 good music and sound track, the other reviewer did a decent recapitulate of the movie.

As I was watching, I was angry with what happen or may happen to the boy and mom.

this is not an happy ending type of movie. very R for violence.
