Insane but Amusing
downright36 February 2015
To put it out there immediately, yes this movie is irrational. The plot is unrealistic and the majority of the situations that the main character faces can be debunked by any viewer. HOWEVER, the movie in itself was downright amusing. I laughed at many of the lines, mannerisms & expressions of the cast. This movie was not created to win an Oscar, it was created to give the audience a good time. Yes, you will cringe at some of the acting from the supporting cast, but we're not watching Hollywood's A-list actors here people. The star of the film actually makes his character likable, don't let his Vine "behavior" discredit that. The editing is great, the overall acting is mediocre but it definitely isn't a snooze fest. I wouldn't call this movie necessarily a "must-watch" but if you ever find yourself looking for a movie to amusingly pass the time, give it a shot.

Felix tries too hard to be Ferris
isap9716 July 2015
Warning: Spoilers
I'm just going to go right ahead and tell you not to waste your time with this. It tries to be some sort of tribute to Hughes' Ferris Bueller's Day Off (FBDO), but instead it is a terrible TERRIBLE attempt at copying it. Felix? Seriously? They couldn't even find a name that wasn't so similar to Ferris. It was obvious from the very first sequences that the concept is basically the same, I mean come on, popular kid; the principal is the "villain"... The Skype call? That's like when Ferris uses his computer to alter the amount of absences he's had in the school's system. Addressing the audience is FBDO's trademark, so to speak. I could go on, but there's no point. If you want to watch an irreverent teen movie that's actually funny and original, watch Ferris Bueller's Day Off, OK? Not this pseudo-comedy.

My eyes hurt, my ears bleed, my brain is in a coma

I can't believe I just saw this piece of monumental crap. What they where thinking when they made this movie? The acting has zero value. The plot is beyond stupidity. It makes dumb and dumber (the worst comedy of the year) to look like a masterpiece. I want my time back. I've never seen a movie that made me wanna kill myself. What has become of cinema? Who is making movie stars now? Vine? Instagram? Snapchat?. Humanity is lost. If they continue making movies like this I'm just gonna be ready for extinction. I won't recommend this even to my worst enemy. I need to calm down now. Sorry for my English, I used to write in Spanish. The word we use for this kind of thing is: Caca.

This movie was so bad it gave me gingivitis (spoilers?)
conflictdiamond-real21 February 2015
Warning: Spoilers
Not only was this movie poorly made, with zero real acting ability on display, it was also a ripoff. This was nothing more than a cheap, low-effort remake of Ferris Bueller's Day Off, directly copying multiple scenes right down to the "bit" of Dressing Up Like Daddy to get him out of school to continue the shenanigans elsewhere.

Practically every line was delivered with a dull-eyed wooden consistency that made me wonder at first if it was a YouTube prank video, but alas I eventually came to the sinking conclusion that grown people with jobs and responsibilities actually paid valid U.S. currency to witness this cinematic abortion in the theater.

There are two types of crime under U.S. Common Law - those which are Malum Prohibitum (illegal because they violate arbitrary regulations) and Malum In Se (illegal because they are evil in and of themselves). This movie is Malum In Dumbass, because not only is it cheap, unoriginal, poorly crafted, lazy, boring, and annoying, it's also just plain stupid. If you step back and review the entire story in and of itself, you can't help but recall the "hero" delivering the line "Have you ever stopped and looked at your plan and thought WOW, AM I DUMB!?!" Well, maybe the director should have thought of that.

SPOILER THE MOVIE SUCKED. This movie was the worst movie I have ever witnessed. The story line was horrific, the actors were horrific, the ending was horrific. The plot got no where, taught a terrible lesson, and left the watcher wanting to die. I created this account just to review this sucky movie. I could never fathom a movie to be so stupid. If you want to watch it, don't. You will be greatly disappointed and should invest your time elsewhere. I regret watching the movie and would never want someone to make the same mistake. I wish you well, I am sorry you have even looked into this movie.

It Is What It Is
Suradit21 January 2015
Hey, it's a cute, juvenile fantasy. I can't imagine that anyone who chose to watch it was laboring under the assumption that it was going to be anything more than that.

I've never even heard of Cameron Dallas before this. I don't think he needs to start working on a draft for his Golden Globe acceptance speech, but if you're doing a cute, juvenile fantasy, I can think of no one who could have handled the job better... to be fair I have to admit I'm not sure who else might be in the running. Occasionally he delivered his lines like he was reading them for the first time and I suppose his bubbly enthusiasm might wear thin much longer than the 90 minutes or so this movie ran, but I really can't see why some reviewers were so negative. I'm sure he'll be a hit among the presumed target audience for Expelled.

The idea of some school kid bored to death with school and then engineering some elaborate, unrealistic schemes to undermine the smooth running of the school, to deceive his parents and to outwit adults who are portrayed as clueless drones, is hardly original. The "pranks" and antics Felix & Co. pull off are childishly improbable ... I don't think anyone was aiming at realism ... but then it was fairly amusing in a absurd sort of way.

I'm pretty sure the goal of the production was to make a silly, laughable bit of fluff and in that regard, they were pretty successful. Felix and his co-conspirators were fun to watch. Great theater for all times it was not, but some of the rather angry, spiteful sounding reviews appearing here suggest their authors really need to lighten up and look at this movie as a bit of fun, not as an attempt at a profound, thought-provoking social commentary.

I'm giving it a 7. Probably deserved a 5 or 6, but I feel the need to compensate for some of the over-the-top critics.

Very Bad
calebchase22 August 2015
Im sorry but this movie was just downright awful. The acting sucked, Cameron should just stop acting because hes just terrible. The jokes were terrible. The only actually good actor in this movie was Matt Shivley. Awesomeness TV has produced some way better movies like "The Smosh Movie" but this just sucked. The story was just very dumb and un-original. I don't recommend seeing this movie at all, but Im so glad I didn't pay for it. I had very low expectations for this movie and they met them! Id hate to say it but Dragonball:Evolution was a better movie than this. So all in all this movie was horrible do not watch it. Id wrather watch db evolution 59 billion times over.

Predictable, but funny for the right audience
raykyogrou07 June 2015
Let's get real. This isn't a big-budget blockbuster movie. What do you expect, it was produced by a YouTube channel forgodsakes. The people in it are not actors, they are just YouTubers, Viners, you name it. And if you're not into watching funny sketches on those sites, why would you expect a film like this to be different? I'm pretty open-minded and watch any movie I find to be entertaining--not because I obsess over the main guy like some preteen girl.

This movie is directed at a specific audience. And so are Bollywood movies. I sat through 2-3 hours of a Bollywood movie once. It had song and dance/music video intermissions, irrational plots, and cartoon parts for scenes that were too expensive/difficult to film. I was mildly entertained because I wanted to know who stole the diamonds.

Sometimes I watch mainstream Philippine romantic/comedy/drama movies to make fun of how bad the acting is. They are all the same. There's a guy, there's a girl and they fall in love. There is a big climax near the end where everything seems to go to s*** but their love keeps them together. But to the right audience, this is cinema gold.

My point is: If you're the targeted audience, you will probably enjoy this movie. If you stumbled onto this movie by accident like me, you might hate it. But I loved the witty humor brought about by this cast. A movie doesn't have to be from Hollywood to be good.

At least it's better entertainment than Keeping Up With the Kardashians or Jersey Shore.

Bad. Very bad. Really truly awful.
wesleychien28 December 2014
This movie is an absolute affront to both society, and good taste as a whole. The "Vine Star" cast turns in a predictably bad performance but to their credit they adhere to their traditional format, there are about 6 seconds of good acting in the entire film. Do not, under any circumstance, watch this movie. It seems like a middle school English class tried to rewrite Ferris Bueller's Day Off, but their teacher gave them the added parameter that the term "butthole" had to be used 15 times. The main character's brother turns in an atrocious Jim Carrey impression. Perhaps the movie would've benefited from a cast of real actors, but the producer who decided to use internet "celebrities" in lieu of trained actors greatly underestimated the public's palate for terrible acting. 1/10, and that's generous.

Warning: Spoilers
So, i'm a fan of pretty much about half or more of the cast, so I was really happy seeing them in a movie together. when it first started, I wasn't really into it, but maybe after 10-20 minutes, i started to really like it. and yes, it's the same concept of Ferris Bueller's Day Off, and there was a couple references to other movies. (ex. when Felix was holding his phone playing music to his friend's window) but, it wasn't the exact same. also,in some interviews, the interviewer will say how it's similar to Ferris Bueller's Day Off, and they have publicly have acknowledged it. but, overall, i really liked the movie. i think it's worth seeing, and that it's a movie to watch with your friends.

ferris bueller type movie

Warning: Spoilers
I watched this movie a few days ago and contrary to some of the negative reviews I thought this movie was a good watch. cameron dallas did quite well to say it was his first real movie as well as lia marie johnson. although the movie is slow moving its lots of fun.

The opening scene with cameron dallas and his principle has a funny twist.

The target audience for this movie in my humble opinion would be for 12-18 year olds

the ending scene in the movie is my favourite where the principle gets owned.

Lia marie has a beauty full track at the end credits called - moment like you.

What a waste of twenty minutes
jesscar_2118 January 2015
This movie is one of the few I've ever watched that I couldn't stomach past the first twenty minutes. Viner and infamous asshole Cameron Dallas can't act at all, making him a more than terrible choice for the lead actor in this flick. The other internet celebrities that appear in the movie aren't much better. It felt like I was watching the low-budget remake of Ferris Bueller's Day Off- except Cameron Dallas is not at all as likable as Matthew Broderick. In fact, I hated the character within the first three minutes of viewing. The plot and back story of the film were weak and about as believable as its characters. If you're looking to watch some of your favourite Youtube stars in a film, maybe try Camp Takota instead. How did this ever get a 5.3 rating???

Amazing plot and acting! This movie left me in such a state of awe that I will never find a more beautiful piece of art!. The entire writing is has penetrated this niche market for a story, which made me wonder why nobody has done it before... But then i realised that 3min in, i was already trying to gouge my eyes out of their sockets filling their empty whole with fuel and burning my brain out... This movie has inspired me to write my very first movie review, and I have never felt more empowered!!! Trolololololololololo I need 3 more lines, so here goes...I could write a short story that is better than this movies plot line...

A Better World

Once upon a time, in the city of Denim, 3 best friends walked into a bar, and ordered a drink. The bartender asked, "do you want todays special?" Jack looks at Jacob and John and nods, "Yes, we will have that." The bartender turned around and started preparing the drink. He returned after a little while with 3 drinks in martini glasses with a little umbrella hanging out of it. John looks at the drink, and asks, "Isn't this a little gay?" The bartender looks at them and tells them, "it is called 'A Better World." Jacob looks at the 2 guys and say, "Come on guys drink up!" They cheers and chug the drink. They black out!!!!

Jacob, John and Jack wake up an ally, in a world where everyone is riding horses and greeting with kisses, and animals talk. They get taken by Captain Homogalaxia, a very homophobic gentleman living in the wrong world. They go through a series of unfortunate events and torture. They have been tortured for being gay, because they drank the drink.

Suddenly they hear a loud thumping noise coming from the door… The Pink Knights of the Shire take Captain Homogalaxia and send him to prison fro punishing gay people, and they save Jack, Jacob and John from the torture. But in the process they get knocked out.

They wake up back in the bar in Denim, and walk up to the bartender and ask him, "What happened to us?" The bartender replies, "I hope you will not treat people badly again and use homophobic language from this day on, and I hope you have learnt from your mistakes!" Jack, Jacob and John apologies to the bartender and promise accept people for who they are and not to discriminate people because of their sexual orientations again.

These 3 men are the start of A B E T T E R W O R LD!!!!

Make a movie out of this instead!!

I couldn't bother to finish it.
kirby91-228-5768741 February 2015
I gave this movie the benefit of the doubt to see if Cameron Dallas was more than a pretty face. Perhaps I should have just gone with my initial instinct.

The acting, at best, is terrible. The principal - whose name I didn't bother to memorize - gives off one of the worst performances. It's almost like he's gritting his teeth and praying for filming to be over. Cameron has about a minute-and-a-half's worth of somewhat decent acting; given that this film will take away an-hour-and-half of your life, that's not a very promising ratio.

The dialogue itself is terrible. It's one thing to have decent lines and crummy actors, but this was a well-rounded film in terms of how badly thought out it was. Let me provide an example for you:

"Aren't you expelled?" "Um.../yeah./"

The entire film is essentially a knock-off of every 80's comedy ever made but with grade-D acting and elementary dialogue.

Do yourself a favor and skip this, regardless of how attractive you might find Cameron Dallas.

Hit-or-miss? MISS.
maya-quinn15 July 2015
Warning: Spoilers
Alright so, I don't know exactly what I was expecting from "Expelled" but it definitely wasn't what I just endured. I have watched a LOT of crappy teen movies, they're like my catnip, but "Expelled" was on another level of 'blah'. It had it's bright moments but it was ultimately a miss in my opinion.

Firstly, if what you're looking for is an entertaining and insightful film you should walk away now. Not only was the plot unbelievable, but the characters were stereotypical and overused. There was the bad boy who was revealed to really be smart and have a heart of gold. There was the side-kick friend who was tech-y and hilarious. Then there was that whole 'school- president' trope and the 'bitter ex-girlfriend' (in those exact words) and the harsh criminal dean of students. I could go on. Honestly the concept of the movie was just bits from decades of bad teen movies all shoved into one big internet-famous extravaganza.

Secondly, the acting was poor. While Cameron Dallas's performance did get somewhat better throughout the movie, the part was perhaps a bit too big for him to begin with. Sadly, the romance between Felix and Katie didn't seem to evolve or come organically and was expressed more as an afterthought. Matt Shively however was a breath of fresh air in "Expelled" and delivered his poorly written lines with gusto. The acting paired with the concept rendered this film 85 minutes of anticipation on behalf of viewers, who were waiting for there to be a tangible moment of reality.

This film is only really for fans of Cameron Dallas, the famous viner, or 13 year old teenage girls who haven't seen enough movies to understand that this is not one to win an academy award. But as I said, it had it's moments and it isn't the WORST film I've ever seen.

Encouraging Criminal Activity?
Mark-InTheUK25 June 2016
Warning: Spoilers
The basic moral of this story is that you can commit crime after crime, encourage criminal activity with other teenagers, not get jailed, so long as you can blackmail someone not to inform the police. Hilarious?

I ended up watching this because my daughters had it playing through Netflix whilst I was working in the same room. This is no pleasant movie and certainly not suitable for children as it encourages repeat criminal behaviour, including hiding felons and jail breaking, hacking, breaking and entering, theft, blackmail, fraud and deceit. I needed to discuss the rights and wrongs of the behaviour encouraged in the movie with my daughters during and at the end; explaining that anyone committing these various acts would be jailed for 20 to 40 years in total.

The main character players plays it for laughs as he encourages other to be complicit in his crimes. He badgers his girlfriend and another friend to commit fraud and cover up his crimes, later having them help blackmail someone.

Whoever thought this was a good idea for a movie needs to be committed.

Light-Hearted
user-180-2506777 February 2015
To give it a light explanation. It's not a terrible movie. it is if you are looking for something deep. then this is not for you what so ever. But if you're just looking for a movie to pass time and watch then this movie isn't an awful choice. I've seen movies with worse acting though some acting in this movie was most definitely not favorable.I enjoyed seeing Lia Marie Johnson for a second. more because I had seen her in Fine Bro videos "Kids React" and enjoyed seeing her in a different light. I'm also a 17 year old boy though. So I may show some light bias. But all in all I believe people are being too cruel on the movie. This of course is not a professional movie, it's more of a Youtube movie. So if you watch it without looking too in depth you can still easily enjoy it.

Save yourself do not watch this film, it will make you less intelligent any film is better even Disneys ice princess is a far superior film! I cant imagine anyone has ever laughed at this film, how it's rated so highly is a complete mystery. The acting is poor, the storyline could be written by a 10year old. One of the most predictable films I've seen.

CANT STRESS ENOUGH DO NOT WATCH SAVE THAT 86 MINUTES OF YOU LIFE FOR ANYTHING.

Actual being expelled would be better than this garbage!

Not funny, but still amusing -- it passes the time
vik2-240-93428115 February 2015
You have to suspend your beliefs to enjoy this obviously, cartoonish, over-the-top movie.

It's very unrealistic and implausible, but it is what it is. It's clearly not trying to be a serious film.

Just relax and enjoy it. I surprisingly had one belly laugh from it. I had considered turning off after 20 mins; I'm glad I stuck it out until the end.

It's just a silly movie. A silly corny, yet charming, flick.

The girl in the film is that Lia from the YouTube FineBros "Kids react to" videos. I think I'd likely give this a 6 out of 10, but I'm feeling generous.

what a rip off
caitlingong28 December 2014
Warning: Spoilers
this movie was pretty much a much less funny version of an 80's movie (in particular Ferris Bueller's Day Off). I'm not sure if the director intended for it to be like that, but it was pretty much the same plot; the main character gets out of school, tricks his dumb parents, uses his trusty friend to get what he wants, and of course there's got to be a girl involved (Johnson). He also talks into the camera, as he goes about his day, telling the audience what he's doing. In particular, the scene where he uses a doll in his bed to trick his parents into thinking he's asleep and the use of a microphone as well, is a direct copy from John Hughes' classic film. Overall, this movie deserves a poor rating, and failed to even make me smile once. Perhaps due to the obvious rip off scenes and plot from Ferris Bueller's Day Off, this movie failed to meet my already low expectations. (Great for kids aged 6-12)

Funny for Teens
grannypeachtea2 January 2017
Funny. You have to be more of a teenager (like me) to enjoy this film. It follows Felix O'Neil, who is always in trouble at school, getting expelled. After doing so, throughout the film (I won't spoil it), he is coming up with schemes to not have his parents find out. His friend Danny, is always being dragged along in his plans, helping Felix break into the school, change his grades and steal things. The only downside is the film may inspire young children to get ideas that will get them in trouble, but otherwise a hilarious movie and great for the family on a bad day. Highly recommend. Hope this review was helpful without spoiling the plot.

Would be better if it weren't for this.
Blameitonlag7 December 2018
This is kind of weird, I like this movie up to a point. Its flawed in plenty of aspects. For example the fact that this movie ends like 4 times. After the 3rd ending you end up losing interest until you see the real ending. So in other words, its like the kid who cried wolf of endings. Don't even get me started on the acting. I saw a bit at the beginning and thought that this was a joke because the reaction was horrible. But if you can get passed the flaws this movie then its decent to say the least. Its super basic yet entertaining to a degree, sort of funny at times and even a bit clever at most.

Misogyny at its finest
roache-895748 March 2015
Warning: Spoilers
To put this politely, Expelled is genuinely one of the worst movies to have ever been created. And not just because the writing was atrocious or the acting was worse than that of a porno, but mostly due to the misogynistic, sexist undertones. It all began in the scene when Felix confronts his ex girlfriend for not changing all his F's to A's on his report card. During this confrontation, she tells him she refused to change his grades considering he didn't work for or earn A's. Reasonable, I would think. He goes on to tell her she is insane before saying, "I'll give you 5 minutes to fix my report card." To which she ignores him, so he forcefully, practically yells, "FIX IT!" A little intense for such a "fun, lighthearted" movie, don't you think? When she asks what will happen if she doesn't follow his orders(like the good little servants women are portrayed as in this movie) he tells her to "Use her imagination." This scene was the most unsettling I'd ever seen in a comedic movie. If I had been the girl in that situation, I would be genuinely frightened. Nothing was funny or realistic in the way a normal, un-abusive man would speak to a woman, even if he was angry at her(for not following his demands like a good woman/servant she is) The rest of the movie continues in much the same fashion, with undertones of abuse and obvious misogyny against woman. Until we get to a scene I almost can't even fathom. Towards the beginning of the movie, you see Felix getting ready to leave for school and BOTH his parents getting ready to leave for the morning as well. Even showing his mother getting in her car and leaving the home dressed in work attire. And while it never specifically says she's going to work, where else would she be going and staying at all day? So I'm assuming she has a job. Yet, when she tells Felix later in the movie that she has a parent teacher conference with one of his teachers, and he asks "And you guys are going?" She says to him, I kid you not, "Well, I'm going. Your father isn't because he has a REAL job." With emphasis on the "real" and everything. So, that thing that she wakes up early every morning for, spends all day doing, and gets paid for, isn't a real job? And why is that? Because she's a woman? I almost couldn't even comprehend the fact that someone would write a movie posed as a comedy with a bunch of "famous teens" thrown in for popularity just to actually show the fact that this writer, Alex Goyette, genuinely has no respect for women and so obviously sees men as superior. This movie is vile and you should not waste any of your life on it.
