NOTHING happens!!!
Patient44426 March 2015
This movie right here is without a doubt one of the weakest I have ever seen, and I've seen many!! Believe me when I tell you this: nothing happens!!

OK, read carefully and don't you dare to double check me cause that will mean watching it for yourself, so please, please let me do you this one favor and steer you in another direction. At first I couldn't believe how many shots were pretty much for nothing, just to fill some time, but as the movie progressed I discovered that it actually has almost nothing to show. Two kills, not all made by the killer, close to no plot, no gore, little nudity, a good killer mask and a laughable soundtrack. The killer has almost no action whatsoever, which is quite amazing for a horror, the main actor is shown the entire movie, as she eats, dances, sleeps and so on and then when the ending comes, it just comes. A few "action" scenes and the end!

Playing with dolls should be named Playing with your nerves! Don't do it. Very weak production!

Cheers!

Rather have shards of glass in my eyes
kaihbr1 April 2016
Warning: Spoilers
It's easy enough to criticize this movie, so I'll get to that in a minute. First I'd like to tell you about what I liked with the movie. It's going to be a short list: two pretty looking girls. It also had a kind of scary location - deep inside a forest. A place no one can get without having a car pumped full of gas - twice! Before you continue reading... I'm writing about a lot of the things that happen in the movie, so if you want to see it, don't read any further. It will spoil some of the "fantastic" surprises.

A girl is left all alone in an apartment because her room mate has left her for some reason. We never get to know why. Desperate from not having any money, she accepts a job offer paying a lot of money. She leaves her apartment without bringing any luggage. No clean underwear, no tooth brush, no jacket... even though she knows she's going to be away for more than a month. Maybe her room mate took her toothbrush, who knows? She gets to this cabin. A psychopath is running inside the house but she doesn't notice him. He tries to grab her a couple of times, but she still doesn't notice he's there. All she does is dance, eat and drink alcohol. Probably in the job description...

Suddenly a police officer arrives. He is all alone without any contact with other police officers. Not even as much as a system in case he goes missing in action. No no... this cop is on his own! The police officer hasn't eaten or had anything to drink for four days, staying out in the cold, being hunted and shot at. Even so, he's still ready to flirt. When the girl puts a grenade in the dryer (yes, she probably thought the grenade was too wet), the cop has to rush the grenade outside. He is now being shot at. The funny thing about this is that no one is actually aiming. They're just shooting. The other thing... no one is taking cover. They're just standing in the middle of open fields ready to get shot. Not really impressing for soldiers hired to protect the ground! The movie ended exactly where the budget did... and without any explanation. Add bad acting and a murderer that doesn't really murder and seems more like a really stupid version of Blane, you get an awful movie.

I'd like to point out two more things... someone is always observing what is going on through cameras mounted everywhere. This is a millionaire supposed to be far away from the actual house where everything takes place. However... when things turn sour, he appears within three minutes. How does he do that? A girl is running through the forest. The murderer is walking. When the girl stops to catch her breath behind a tree, the murderer is there also. How did he do that? Sorry for the spoilers... avoid this movie!

Playing With Dolls
a_baron9 October 2017
An attractive young girl down on her luck is saved from skid row by one of those offers that validate the saying if it looks too good to be true, it is. Certainly most of the time, and absolutely certainly in this case. She is lured out into the middle of nowheresville to housesit and apparently to await the arrival of an elderly man to whom she will presumably act nanny. Except that other people turn up first, including our mystery psychopathic killer, a reincarnation of Leatherface, Michael Myers, or somewhere in between.

Needless to say, she is not the first intended victim, at least two girls have been despatched before she arrives, one of them graphically. The psycho in the mask is not the only sicko on the loose, he has actually been brought in to provide the entertainment for the real villain, the type who never gets his own hands dirty.

What more do you need to know? Well, the year before this was released, our damsel Natasha Blasick gave an interview in which she claimed to have had sex with a ghost. This one is not so much supernatural sex as necrophilia; its one saving grace is a superior soundtrack, one which deserved to be married to a film worth watching.

Waste of Time Movie
richardhoughton2 April 2015
Warning: Spoilers
Just suffered through possibly one of the worst 2015 horror movies ever. "Playing with Dolls" Whaetever it was about who knows? A woman went to a cabin in the woods after getting some call from a lady who gave her a key to a car and she drove there and was picked up and taken the rest of the way to the cabin, Then we watch for half hour as she eats, sleeps and dances around the house, unknown to her that there are camera's in the house watching her every move while some weirdo sits there watching her and a killer in the house.

Let's just say the killer in the mask and rags is pathetic...he kills no one the whole movie, and the only kills were from the police themselves and all the scary masked killer does is walk around trying to be scary but fails badly.

The characters I didn't care for or like and nothing happens this whole movie. Do not waste 1 hour 20 with this movie and the ending was bad enough as it comes finally and ends just like that!!

Bad and a failure of a movie.....The producers of this movie and all people involves should be hanged for this shame of a movie! 1 out of 10

Abysmal.

No budget, sense or originality. This is just another run-of-the-mill DTV bottomfeeder, that has as much to do with Halloween and Friday the 13th as a mocha smoothiea has with violent diarrhea. The hack Rene Perez acted as Director, Editor, Cinematographer, Writer, Composer and Producer on this pathetic nonsensical skidmark, all to horrendously incompetent effect. Just ignore it, nothing to see here.

Biggest piece of crap ever!!!
berg-7453212 June 2018
This is bad in every way. Scooby Doo had more terror and suspense and even when you knew what the ending of Scooby and the game that ending is still better than this. But with as bad as the slasher part was it was not as bad as the tiny cop. We are supposed to believe he chases this serial killer around the globe by himself while wearing his Toys R Us uniform. None of the characters were at all believable as people so they had no shot at making believable characters. The whole thing was like the writer had never seen a horror movie or a cop movie he just had someone explain the concept of them with no details about character development. I wish I could still like movies like this and envy those who do, it would make wasting 2 hours less painful.

Playing with... wrong script....wrong everything?
stonedraim11 April 2016
Warning: Spoilers
**** May contain strong spoilers ****

This is a review made by StoneDraim... and that means that if you want to read a probably different kind of review, keep reading....

This is my personal experience, my personal point of view/perspective and my personal opinion... and my opinion is just one of like 7 billions in this world.

Quality of the movie filmed in is kind of grey and "gives the impression of a cheap movie". The music opening the movie is all around lousy in the fact that the piece of sound is totally apart from what would be appropriate for the script; a girl runs through the forest with blood on the waist. A serial killer looking a little like Leatherface (Texas Chainsaw Massacre) is going behind her, chasing her, just as in Friday the 13th. A shot shows that the girl is running away and is at least like 40 metres away from the girl. Then suddenly another shot is showing the killer and he's like 20 metre behind her....she is running, he is walking. What!? The synthesizer sounds creating the music and the beat also gives the impression of a cheap and bad production. At the same time as the girl is running, two men are fighting in the woods. Very bad acting and clear missed fighting hits, as I could see after like 10 seconds that they miss each other clearly. The testosterone sign that they are "very cool and very hard" is just so lame directed and overexplicit that the poor actors is shown even worse than they probably are. The blood and the dirt in their faces screams out; "Hey...look...we can use this kind of make-up to save money!". One of the guys look a little like TOm Cruise; I imagine that the trick is to get a actor that looks alike another well known actor to draw audience. When the fighting guys starts to talk....OH MY... OH MY....the terrible acting, the terrible dialogue. They are fighting at a completely different location with green surroundings... the girl is running in snow. The fact can be that there can be snow and green trees close to each other...but... COME ON! How could they hear her scream far away besides when they are fighting? On top of that, one of the guys says that there is a girl being killed right now.... HOW....HOW could he know that? This manuscript is so bad that I seriously started to think about filing a complaint for emotional distress. The lighting shifts from take to take.... sometimes even when the two guys talk to each other... from a moody grey dawn to suddenly bright light into the next second..... really!? I continued watch for like three minutes and could write...oh, let's say 2 pages just about errors, bad sound editing, bad manuscript, illusive small things happening all the time. OK...so this is just like 10 minutes into the movie.... should I ramble on, or am I coming across to you?

(I know there were two guys in Sweden writing and filming a short psychological thriller for about 20 years ago, as a master thesis. They were total amateur and their friend played the main character (that was in fact I who played that role). The name of the movie were "Skendöd" (eng.: Apparent dead / Apparently dead) and my point here is; that movie were better and more professional than this one.)

Over to the movie as a product: - The production : Do I really need to write more here? - The actors : Do I really need to write more here? - The story : A serial killer chasing for more victims taking the nipples of women. Could have been an almost approved thing going on here....and now.... just leave me alone. - Entertainment : Entertained to compare this "production" to other great productions... seeing and appreciating good quality movies. Interesting as reference to bad movies. Because this is poor. - Age : Just. Forget. It.

2,3 out of 10. (The final rate is based most on my own entertainment of the movie. 3 Bad. Weak. Foul. 2 Amateur, small-time, bad... and misconduct.)

Wow!
crawford_april17 October 2021
I have watched A LOT of horror movies and A LOT of really bad ones, but this one is up there in terms of literally being one of the worst I have ever seen! It's so unbelievably horrible, it's hysterical...literally! I was laughing so hard, I almost fell out of my chair and I don't think they meant it to be funny. The acting is HORRIBLE, the story is ridiculously stupid and makes NO sense, and what's the truly frightening thing about this movie is it was written in the first place and there are MORE in this series. If you want a great laugh, watch this movie, but if you're actually looking for something good/scary, this isn't it.

It was going so well at one point...
vengeance2013 March 2016
Warning: Spoilers
Got this film from HMV last week & made plans to watch the film because of how interesting it looked, DVD case & Trailer wise, though I was skeptical & shady about this film due to previous films of the same caliber which had the following things: Short run time, Epic DVD case, little known actors, self scored music, bad pacing, crappy effects & little known film making crew. Though I have seen some good straight-to-DVD films like this, I was still shady about it & didn't expect it to be amazing!

The film is about 4 actors starting out in a Reality TV Show & whoever wins gets £1 million in prize money & gets to be the lead role in a Horror Film! That's the basic plot here & doesn't really explain a lot as I'll tell you at the end of this review.

This film was decent, not epic, but decent. There were some pretty gory moments! It didn't disappoint in terms of blood & gore! Not to mention the villain was pretty creepy & terrifying! They surrounding scenery of the wooded area was another great visual added in too.

But the bad & clichéd things I didn't like was the isolated story, the watery acting, the weak dialogue & the unconvincing story! It seemed all too rushed & quite thin, but what do you expect from a straight-to-DVD film with little to very unknown actors/actresses! But still this film seemed pretty weak & made on the cheap at points!

But I'd say the biggest downfall was the ending! Yes, it was a f**king cliff hanger, but wait no the film just ended! Just like that! It wasn't even a damn cliff hanger let alone a decent ending to a film! It didn't even look like a cliff hanger ending it was that random, you were just getting into it & bam! The end! It was such a big cheat as well! I was seriously pi$$ed off! It left me feeling empty & really deprived of what I wanted to know, I mean I've seen some bad endings to films but this...!

The ending costed my review a good couple of stars & as a result, I give this film a 3/10, It had gore & violence, but among other things in the clichéd straight-to-DVD films the ending just killed it entirely!

GREAT ROOM, BUT WHAT'S THAT SMELL?
nogodnomasters18 April 2018
Warning: Spoilers
This is a Rene Perez's so bad its good film installment. Don't be confused, this in a one star or zero star film. I just thought it was so bad I got some enjoyment from it. A reality TV show takes 4 contestants to a mountain cabin where there is no cell phone service, except when the cell phone rings. There is a slasher up there and the last person standing stars in their own horror movie and that million dollar thing. I am not sure why someone wears a barbed wire guard around their head, seems a bit cumbersome at beddy-bye time. The film doesn't end with closure and director-writer-producer-etc.-etc. will certainly make another one. I am glad to see he is doing bad horror instead of bad fantasy films with idiotic flashbacks.

Guide; Nudity (Elonda Seawood, Karin Brauns or double)

All Dressed Up...
superfeature25 August 2017
Another film with the gear and the cast but an under-developed script. The opening drops us into a lot of action but never explains what's going on; you must infer from what you're shown. The lead baddie at his computer monitor is never explained either. What are his goals? Who frees serial killers in order to watch them at work? You must make motivations clear to the audience. The young heroine needs money - but what is everyone else up to, and why? The first hour (!) is heavily padded with superfluous goings-on. A few jump scares don't make up for a lack of real tension either. This was a near miss - a sharper focus on its goals, with fewer shots of the killer in full daylight, and this could have been an effective little thriller. Here's hoping the follow-ups are better vetted. Worth watching for the extremely pretty Natasha Blasick, the nifty (but unexplained) mask on the killer, and - well, not much else.

So derivative
Leofwine_draca23 October 2018
Warning: Spoilers
PLAYING WITH DOLLS is another Z-grade horror effort just one step up from an indie. Cast-wise, it features former Hollywood actor Richard Tyson - whom you may remember playing the baddie in KINDERGARTEN COP - but nobody else of note. It's a predictable outing, hugely derivative, set at the usual cabin in the woods where the party is gatecrashed by the usual masked psycho type. The hidden camera/reality TV angle was already done better a long time ago in MY LITTLE EYE. There's no depth or style here, just routine behaviour.

garbage
len-499147 August 2021
Have lost the small shred of respect that I had left for Rotten tomatoes! Recently holidayed in Berwick, had a lovely time. In our apartment was a dvd player. In the local charity shops dvds were 3 for one pound. Came accros this dvd and googled reviews. RT give it 55%. Can't be all bad thinks I.

Total waste of time, utter garbage.

Better Title Would Be: Crapfest.
dimitrimelnikoff13 January 2021
Where Rene Perez gets funding for his absolutely horrible films is something I've always wondered. This movie is just bad. The acting is so poor that I wonder if these are even legit actors that were used. His directing style is poor. The story is 100% predictable from beginning to end. The editing is so bad I thought I was watching a spoof movie. The only good thing about this film is that it wasn't too long. This is not a horror, it's a comedy.

Average enough if not really that overwhelming slasher
kannibalcorpsegrinder20 January 2018
Warning: Spoilers
Struggling to get by in life, a troubled woman accepts an offer from a mysterious corporation to participate in a strange experiment at a remote cabin-house out in the woods where she gradually comes to learn that a vicious serial killer is stalking her in a vicious game by her employer.

This one ended up being quite the decent enough slasher. What really gets this one going nicely is the rather strong action that gives this one a lot to really like overall here. Setting the tone rather nicely by detailing the initial chase through the woods but also getting the fist-fight featured alongside it gives this a nice punch as this gets us acclimated to the type of monitoring system at play here. It doesn't hurt that this also introduces the killer who is an insanely chilling presence that this one gets a lot of mileage out of as the flesh-colored mask wrapped in barbed wire and twisted metal leaves an indelible mark during the middle portion with him stalking her throughout the house against her knowledge. Those are quite creepy as the sight of him behind her moving around in the house without her knowing about it causes this to have a genuine tension that's even more effective due to the flashes of him behind her after just passing by or moving objects to different places in an attempt to confuse and disorient her before going through the phases of a stellar slasher on the other end. From some solid gun-battles to a decent stalking setpiece in the woods where it includes a few extra bodies thrown into the loop for some nice kills and bloodshed, the final half of this one is a lot more enjoyable than expected and gives it some decent moments. As well as the stellar house in the woods where it all takes place which is nicely creepy and atmospheric at times, these hold it up over its minor flaws. What really seems to undo this one is its lack of overall clarity with what's going on. Hardly anything is explained at all here, from what the employer at the computer monitors is trying to accomplish to what the purpose of the killer being freed is supposed to mean and why she's coming up to the cabin in the first place. Just dropping it all on us is not a good way of introducing us to anything, and the questions it leaves us is far more prominent than the ones it answers, leaving the whole affair pretty confusing for the most part. As well, the film doesn't really generate the kind of action-packed pace that's usually required in such films as the majority of time focusing on her wandering around the cabin or detailing the lifestyle struggles she's undergoing don't make for exciting scenes here and just really cause this one to be duller than expected. Since these don't bring about the kind of body count activities usually seen here, the film has some points where it lags considerably from what it could've had and never provides the kind of over-the-top bloodletting or kill-count it could've. Alongside the moments where it's obvious the low budget comes shining through, these are what holds this one back.

Rated Unrated/R: Graphic Language, Violence and Brief Nudity.
