Nothing original or unexpected but still worth your time. Much better than I was expecting.
cosmo_tiger26 February 2016
"A woman takes what she wants, when she wants it." Maggie (Parker) is starting to lose touch with her daughter Summer (Day). In an effort to reconnect they take a trip to Italy. Maggie sees this as a bonding experience but Summer sees it as punishment and is worried about her boyfriend who she left. When Maggie reconnects with a former love it only enforces Summer's desire to return home and she takes a car, and a grandma, and will stop at nothing to fly home. Maggie will stop at nothing to stop her. This is really not that bad of a movie. Generic and formulaic but still worth seeing and I actually enjoyed watching this. The movie is pretty predictable but it is a romantic comedy so that is to be expected. In terms of chick-flicks I have seen worse and while this is nothing super outstanding it was better than I was expecting and I laughed quite a bit. Overall, nothing original or unexpected but still worth your time. Much better than I was expecting. I give this a B.

Please, can anyone stop Sarah Jessica Parker from speaking Italian, French or any other foreign language?

Cute little storyline with unexpected detours. Amusing enough. Cutes. No complaint.

Would- be comedy riddled with the usual clichés of the genre.
stbartz2 January 2017
Wow, what a sad little mess this is. Just caught it on cable this afternoon, because I'd never heard of it and the cast seemed promising.

A story-line so clichéd with characters making stupid choices to advance the ridiculous story along. What a waste of Miss Parker and Miss Cardinale. Is it any wonder that it was never released in the U.S.? Pretty much a mistake for all involved. Raoul Bova remains a very attractive leading man. And the young girl who picks up the daughter in her pick up truck is a dead ringer both physically and vocally of the young Claudia Cardinale. Was this done as an homage deliberately? If so, a nice touch.

Close to "so bad, it's good"
marco7023 June 2018
No need to give away plot points, since the whole story is absolutely predictable from start to finish. But the way it is peppered with implausible elements, almost offensive sterotypes and clichés, and a totally uninspired direction, make this movie bearable to watch only if you can enjoy unvoluntarily embarrassing, silly moments and scenes. None of the actors seem interested in what they are doing; both Sarah Jessica Parker ad Raoul Bova, elsewhere charming, make you wonder what's even remotely interesting or attractive in the characters the play. And it's quite painful to watch Claudia Cardinale delivering a grotesquely bad acted performance. Close to "so bad, it's good"; alas, it's just bad.

Half watch, or don't watch
kerryclear19 February 2016
This is handleable to watch when you're in the mood to half-watch something. I watched it half whilst working and still followed it, without subtitles when there's odd conversations in Italian - it's that empty and predictable. I love SJP so I am really disappointed in this. Every bit was predictable, I guessed the relations, the start, middle and outcome. The soundtrack is appalling. It's actually the first thing that put me off the film. And I can't believe that I heard the girl's tattoos being described and defended, in 2016! I'm reviewing it with about 10 minutes left - and I know how it's going to end. Don't bother until it comes on TV and you're hung over or sick and worried about falling asleep in front of the box - because you won't miss anything.

An enjoyable comedy
Gordon-119 February 2016
This film tells the story of a divorced woman who takes her teenage daughter to Italy, in order to find the Italian man who swept her of her feet for two months twenty years ago.

"All Roads Lead to Rome" is fun to watch because it's a comedy and a romantic comedy in one. The comedy part is the daughter Summer and her moodiness, and the subsequent road trip that leads to much hilarity. The romantic comedy part is quite sweet because there are three different relationships in the film, and viewers will have different evaluations of the three relationships. The last scene is romantic and touching. The scenery is beautiful, and the woman playing the TV journalist is very beautiful as well! It's refreshing to see Sarah Jessica Parker in an entertaining film. I enjoyed watching it.

A surprise
eric-langner22 July 2018
After all I have read I almost abandoned watching this movie. But I didn't and I'm grateful for it. I liked it. Of course, the story is predictable, and, of course, it's not the best film ever - BUT: it's entertaining. And it's sincerely done. The actors play authentic, there is nothing over the top, which was probably the most surprising thing. There's certainly charm in it.

Simply awful
tara_moore6 February 2019
I'm not sure much effort went into this. The characters are unlovable and annoying, the plot is weak and 50% of the dialogue is un-subtitled Italian. (I understand we don't have to know what is always being said, but it's such a pointless movie that it could be argued nobody needed a speaking part!)

Neigh!
Racingphan28 June 2023
Warning: Spoilers
Just kidding. But seriously, Sarah Jessica ain't much to look at anymore, but she still has a great nervous energy that invigorates the screen.

The real treasure of this movie is Rosie Day as the bratty teen daughter who slowly grows and matures into a caring human being. And of course, she's absolutely gorgeous. This talented young lady is destined for bigger things.

And a special mention to classic Italian actress Claudia Cardinale. She was still a spitfire, even in her eighties.

The Italian male lead isn't much to look at, and couldn't act his way out of a paper bag.

The scenery is just amazing.

Hard to believe the script made it to production. Silly and implausible. Two stars because it's good to see Claudia Cardinale on screen again.

All roads lead to romantic comedies, for us die-hard fans; this one is quite wonderful
inkblot1127 August 2016
Maggie (Sarah Jessica Parker) is a divorced college professor in Manhattan. So, her marriage struck out. Now, she is having serious trouble with her 17 year old daughter, Summer (Rosie Day). Summer has chosen a bad boy for a boyfriend and Maggie is at her wit's end trying to discourage her offspring. Finally, in desperation, she drags Summer away to Italy, for maybe an ocean will work wonders, Besides that, Maggie was once a grad student in Tuscany and she wants to revisit a time of happiness. But, ho, what memories indeed. Almost at once, Mags runs into Luca (Raoul Bova), a former flame, who still lives the single life in the country, caring for his 80 year old Mother (Claudia Cardinale). There's electricity in the air between the two who once loved each other. While they are engaging themselves in conversation, Summer steals a car to head back to Rome for a jet plane back home. Riding shotgun is Luca's Mama who wants to meet her fiancé in Rome to get married once and for all. This is against Luca's wishes. The two fugitives find they have much in common and bond quickly while Maggie and Luca speed off to get them back. Will love grow again on a journey to Rome for the one- time lovers? This lovely romantic comedy has so many assets. The cast is great, with Parker always an engaging performer and Bova just a doll. Day and Cardinale are terrific also as the delinquents. Then, what could be more beautiful than the Italian Tuscany, with its put your eyes out glory? With a funny script that is a mixture of languages and a tireless direction, this trip is well worth taking. Romcom fans, all roads lead to enjoyment if you make the trip to find this nice little flick.

Poorly written with average performances! 2/10

Warning: Spoilers
Review: I'm usually a suckered for an emotional Rom-Com but this film really wasn't that good. Sarah Jessica Parker is more annoying than funny and her daughter Summer, played by Rosie Day, just didn't have any respect for her mother or any adults whatsoever. The storyline also went from one extreme the next and I lost interest as soon as Maggie (Sarah Jessica Parker), threw her daughters iPhone out of the car window so she wouldn't receive calls from her boyfriend. When they finally reach the remote Tuscan village, were Maggie previously fell for the dashing Luca (Raoul Bova), she tries to bond with Summer but she just wants to go back to NYC to be with her boyfriend. Summer then decides to steal Luca's car and make her way back to the airport but Luca's eighty year old mother, Carmen (Claudia Cadinale) needs to get to her secret wedding, against her sons wishes, so she jumps in the car with Summer and they make there way to Rome. When Maggie realises that they have escaped in Luca's car, they take chase, to try and stop them in there tracks. That's the main concept of the story but of course, Maggie and Luca fall in love, which really wasn't that surprising, and Summer causes trouble along the way. I wasn't expecting too much from this movie because I don't really rate Parker as an actress. The script also was really poor and the silly situations that Maggie and Summer get themselves in, just became ridiculous after a while. Anyway, I wasn't a big fan of this film and I'm not surprised that it didn't go down well audiences around the world. Disappointing!

Round-Up: Sarah Jessica Parker, 51, first hit the big screen in 1984, in the hit movie Footloose and she started to make a name for herself with films like Girls Just Want To Have Fun, L.A. Story, Honeymoon in Vegas, Striking Distance, Hocus Pocus, Ed Wood, First Wives Club and Mars Attacks but it was Sex and the City that made her an household name. After two hit movies from the series and the lead in The Family Stone and Failure To Launch, she hasn't really taken on many projects. The movies that she has taken on, have been really poor and her range, in terms of acting skills, are pretty small so this movie was a disaster from the beginning. It was directed by Ella Lemhagen who has made 11 movies for the Swedish market, which haven't really been heard of. I personally think that it's going to take a very well written movie for Parker to come out of the Sex and the City bubble because her career hasn't progressed since the hit series became popular around the world.

I recommend this movie to people who are into their comedies starring Sarah Jessica Parker, Raoul Bova, Rosie Day, Paz Vega and Claudia Cardinale. 2/10

She Should Be Ashamed
wjacobs-6480429 June 2021
I can't imagine how this was passed over by the Oscars. One seldom gets to experience this level of acting and writing (thankfully).

I purchased this DVD because it was filmed in Rome, a city I love and adore.

But the shots of Rome don't make up for this movie's shortcomings. First, there is no one in this film to care about. No one. Sarah J. P. plays such a poor parent that it's impossible to believe much less care about. Second, the plot is so simple and cliche ridden that it could have been written by a high school student. Third, S. J. P. Is old enough to be the male leads mother. Fourth, she can't ACT, but she does mimic a teenage girl shaking her head and tossing her hair well. Fifth, it will break your heart to see Claudia Cardinale in this film.

Although I wanted to see the scenes shot in Rome, I had to stop the film before it ended. It was just too painful. If I put it on ebay for 50 cents, do you think anyone would buy it?

Who cares
evans-154752 June 2021
I was fast forwarding within 2 minutes of the film start and when I saw the car they picked up at the airport I knew I wouldn't make it to the end.no real chemistry between cast very poor script, as a Rom com I felt it was worse than a hallmark Xmas special.at least my 85 year old mother was delighted that she had aged better than Claudia Cardinale so extra point for that.

If Tommy Wiseau made a rom com...except more boring
drhoads-9374328 July 2019
This is an absolutely dreadfully terrible film. I'm not just hating on it because it's a cheesy rom com. By the end, my wife and I were chuckling because of how terrible it was.

The only thing that could have made this film better is if Tommy Wiseau actually played the part of Luca. That would have made the whole thing make sense.

Sarah Jessica Parker clearly owed someone a big giant favor, or she she was so bored with her life and getting no work that she took this part out of desperation.

IS THERE A NEGATIVE
renniturillo18 March 2022
I gave it 1 star because there was no minus choice.

It's like everyone of SJ's movies, she's winey, plays with her hair a lot and in general is horrid.

I watched it because I thought the scenery might be great - even that wasn't great, , , , and it's Italy, how hard is it not to be great? None of it was worth the time.

Wooden performances
davphv12 June 2023
This movie suffers from a lack of believable acting and a sorry script.

Sarah Jessica Parker is just awful. A lot of her dialogue is repeating what someone just said, as if she's more stupid than she normally is.

I didn't recognize Claudia Cardinale. She and Bridgette Bardot have not aged well. I guess it's better to die young so you're always remembered that way (Marilyn Monroe, Natale Wood).

There should be much more problem communicating since neither the mother or daughter understand much Italian. Out of the blue, when they can't get what the Italian is saying, the Italian switches to fairly perfect English. Have an issue with this, particularly when they're out in the countryside.

This was a good movie and I am not a SJP fan. The mother (Claudia Cardinale)was my favorite character and I did like Summer too. Watch it and see for yourself.

Woke roads to Rome
bingene14 February 2022
All type of woke comments during the film plus bad acting and even worse storyline. Perhaps the worst rom comedy yet. It was bas from the beginning. How sad that fun dialogue and interesting moments are a thing of the past.

SJP Ruins Rome
calebcalebwhitney6 November 2023
To those who made this tripe, we pass gas in your general direction. Thanks for ruining Rome and confirming that SJP is one of the most annoying actresses ever to darken a stage. Motivation of various characters were nonsensical and characters were impossible to like or root for. I found myself wanting SJP's character and her onscreen daughter to be arrested and sent to one of those people broker parties where they would be sold to an Albanian traveling carnival.

Horridly disgusting and unwatchable. Had I hopped up on my dear old ma's kitchen sink, as one does, squatted down and evacuated a pile of buttsludge out of my back door sausage machine after my morning coffee, it would have stank less than this

If you watch this, I'll be disappointed in your ability to make responsible choices.

Inconsistent Pink Hair
kathytrulove20 February 2022
How hard is it to keep a character's hair a consistent color? If you are going to do pink hair, then do pink hair. Summer's hair went from barely pink to faded pink to bright pink all in a matter of 30 minutes. Very distracting and annoying. Movie overall was kind of dumb.

Generic Rom-com
freemantle_uk16 May 2020
I watched All Roads Lead to Rome because I like Rosie Day and she gave a performance that was too good for this film. All Roads Lead to Rome was a predictable rom-com with an uninspired road story and punch lines that could be seen from miles away. It's best as background viewing.

Too Silly
nicorip222 May 2022
It's not a good movie, it's too dumb. It is a romantic comedy with little comedy and also with little romanticism. The plot is bad and pointless. I can't rescue anything, it's not even well acted.

Racist

The movie begins with Sara Jessica Parker saying that Italy is corrupt. She says that right at the outset. Who wrote this script and what country in the world would accept that.
