Very strange, but lacks a decent narrative.

It's a very odd film, it has an interesting premise, some great visuals, but ultimately just doesn't really hit the mark. I love the idea behind the film, it's a drug that can only be used once, any further uses will lead to destruction, and of course the curiosity of human nature meant they were always going to push it further. I lost it a bit towards the end, as it went off on a tangent, and I failed to understand Pierce Brosnan's character and purpose, although I did enjoy his performance.

I did stick with it, as it had some interesting scenes, but it's not a film I'd want to watch for a second time.

Not terrible, but definitely not good.

Feeling the Urge

But try to resist it. Consider it a game of how long can you last. Yes Pierce Brosnan is in this, and Ashley Greene too. But everyone needs money don't they? The answer is yes, if that was unclear. The movie itself has a nice premise, trying to give us what we crave. Though the problem is, while it is by the numbers it is also pulling punches. One example is the nudity (again).

But violence wise you have to admit, there are quite a few good effects on hand. Also a weird ending to the whole thing. Maybe not so fitting to a movie that has not much class up to that point. Then again, there is a stinger after the credits are over and it may actually tell us something ... or does it? Make sure to watch it though (you've stayed on for so long, just fast forward your way to it - not that you can't see it coming from a mile away, but still)

OK...so this was crap

The movie revolves around a group of friends taking a drug that evaporates all inhibitions. So far so good.

This interesting premise and some artsy scenes are pretty much all there is to this flick. The whole rest, nearly all of its runtime is just wasted time - sadly to say at least.

The rather well known actors seem like caricatures - there is overacting and underacting - never consistent, never convincing. The only one that seems to enjoy his role is Pierce Brosnan, actually I would consider his performance one of the highlights in this movie.

The personalities of the characters are plainly sketched and clichés of group dynamics are just thrown in your face. Interesting deeper relationships or conflicts are strangely lacking.

Direction is uninspired - the proclaimed outrageousness that the premise promises is not found in the movie - instead you get minutes of quite uninteresting party scenes that do not even convey the party vibe and even lack the uneasiness it should deliver as it foreshadows the very foreseeable events.

Even if you want to watch this expecting to see some raunchy scenes like a good B-movie might offer you - you will be disappointed. Sadly this movie is actually a time waster. Granted with an interesting premise and some nice Pierce Bronsnan scenes and even a couple of art-house scenes - but very underwhelming as such.

Good ideas, lack of focus

I can't help to wonder if the guy who got the money to do the movie was too excited because he got way more than he expected.

It's like a kid who got the permission to grab all the toy he wants from the toy store.

I want sex scenes ! An expensive location ! A sultry party in a night club ! Pierce Brosnan ! I want to send a strong message about our society ! I want to make a god allegory ! I want a lot of gory scenes ! I want to try this effect with the camera lens over and over !

There was a lot of nice ideas thrown in the making of this movie.Unfortunately, the storytelling got lost in translation.

I didn't believe it would be this terrible.

Don't believe any of the good or even OK reviews. It's just truly the worst film.

What an embarrassment for Pierce Brosnan and these other actors.

I can't find a single positive thing to say about this film.

The people who made the film have absolutely no concept of filmmaking or art.

How could they make such a piece of junk and waste money like this is beyond understanding.

There are lots of bad movies, but this one takes the cake. Like another reviewer said, they felt like writing the review is terrible because IMDb requires a long enough review to submit it.

Normally I might not bother writing writing a review for a terrible movie, but this one requires a SINGLE WARNNG. Do not waste a cent or a bran cell on this one. This is not run of the mill bad, this is a disgrace to even sell.

I rented this for 7dollars on Amazon. I want my money back. Even had this been been free on Amazon Prime, I'd want my money back.

I can only speculate about the sick people that made this in NEW YORK CITY.

True waste of time

I'm not sure why I even gave it the score of 2. Perhaps because I've seen worse. So, this is not the worst, but goes in the categories: "waste of time", "should have never been made", "why and which audience was it made for" and alike. The story could have been intriguing and interesting, but the director got very lost in telling it. It's your typical: friends getting together desperate to have the best time of their lives and guess what? Something goes wrong. Just like the summary says, but fails to evoke the plot holes, unfinished scenes, no explanations, no consistency. Oh, it's a mess. You expect orgy, but nothing is shown. And in my opinion, Ashley Greene stands out as doing the worst job in acting. Actually, when it starts, it looks like the beginning of a porn movie. Acting and script are that bad. I really wanted to see what will happen, but as it became more and more predictable, I just wanted it to end. And boy, what an end??!! There's nothing to enjoy: acting, script, dialogues, story, direction,... I guess you have to see it to believe it.

Thoroughly surprising and enjoyable

Although almost turned off by negative reviews at first, I am glad I stuck through with this one. The beginning is humorous, but slowly gets darker and darker. It was interesting, had me on the edge of my seat, and seemed to provide a parallel to the realities of drug use. Character performances were for the most part skillful. Enjoyed it!

Impressed by its ability to be strange and horrifying at the same time

It's a weird one, but a cool one.

Pierce Brosnan plays a unique pusher man who gives a group of young people a drug that will let you know what it feels like to live without the boundaries of society holding you back for one night only.

Danny Masterson plays a man who is part of the one percent and wants to supply his friends with the drug for more than one night.

The problem is when you take a drug more than once it gives you total freedom to do whatever you feel like with no regrets and to have a world with no boundaries is a dangerous one.

The beauty of the film is how messed up these people got. It was well acted when these people just started doing what they wanted.

Best way to watch it, is to cling to the person in the film you most relate too (their was this one girl who after taking the drug twice wondered what it would be like to smash a Kim Kardashian type's head into a window for being annoying, so she did)

Also giving mad points to the great music in the film that really set the tone and was super impressive, making up for the not so great cinematography.

Urge you to see it.

has potential as a very quirky, unintentional comedy . . .

An interesting attempt at a concept piece, but never quite assembles into a viable production.

Perhaps the most intriguing aspect of this production is that Pierce Brosnan actually signed on to this project

Maybe he was already taking an analog of the drug "urge" out there in the real world and thought this project was a good idea . . . OK, just kidding (well, sort of).

Seriously, though, I can't help but leave this viewing experience feeling as if 90 minutes has been sucked out my life, with essentially no redeeming qualities to justify this sacrifice of time.

Theoretically, this was supposed to be a sort of great philosophical voyage enabled by following the various characters' descent into darkness, the "monsters of the id" syndrome magnified by an evil drug concocted by the ethereal villain (Pierce Brosnan's character) in this clumsily woven together story.

The result, however, is not a vast panorama of epiphany, but rather a very quirky, unintentional comedy . . . somewhat like a psychedelic modern day equivalent of "Plan 9 From Outer Space".

No doubt this will devolve into something of a cult classic among a select few, but for me at least, anything above zero stars would be deceptively misleading.

Having said that, however, for at least it's potential as an unintentional comedy, I'll grant 2 stars . . . tentatively

No one could possibly like this movie's end (no spoilers)

I was honestly enjoying this movie. It was stupid, but in a fun way. It wasn't anything to serious, just movie about 20-somehing year old getting high on what was basically Ecstasy.

The only problem I had during the movie was that the acting was TERRIBLE. It was weird because there were actors in it that I've enjoyed in other things, so I know they have the ability to act well. My guess is that no one was really taking the movie seriously , which is probably was made the movie as fun as it was. I imagine the set was just a bunch of actors screwing around,

But then Mr. Ending comes along and ruins the entire movie. It just STOPS. Anyone who says they like the ending is lying or just really really stupid. There's nothing to like. I don't understand why movies insist on using endings like that.

Do people actually LIKE those endings? I've never watched a movie and thought to myself "I really hope this abruptly stops and there's no closure."

I actually wished I could have used that "Urge", so this movie would be way better ...

"This weekend's gonna be epic."

How the hell did the makers of "Urge" convince Pierce Brosnan to join them? Pierce Brosnan, better known as the legendary 007 and his participation in light humorous romantic comedies. And sometimes he even tries to showcase his musical talent, as in "Mamma Mia!" for example. But I've never seen this top gentleman as devilish and evil as here. The acting of Brosnan is also the only positive part in this movie. And also the only thing that fascinated me.

Neil (Danny Masterson) is a young, wealthy entrepreneur, who's used to a life where he gets everything. An arrogant guy whose group of friends probably consists of artificial friendships that live off his amassed fortune. One day he and his so-called friends Vick (Chris Geere), Danny (Nick Thune), Joey (Alexis Knapp) and Denise (Bar Paly) go to an island to enjoy a great weekend together in his ultra- modern villa. This could well be an epic weekend. That's what he promised his secretary and semi-lover Theresa (Ashley Greene). However, there are two surprises awaiting them. The first in the form of Jason (Justin Chatwin), the uninvited would-be artist and infant terrible, but yet Neil's bosom friend. And the second surprise is the drug "Urge" which is presented to them in the exclusive nightclub Volcano.

Clearly it's not a typical night club. There are eyes projected at the wall and randomly they choose someone to grant him exclusive access to the club. Once inside they are welcomed by a kind of Oompa Loompa person. And the audience seems to be under the influence of some chemical drug. The moment Jason meets the charismatic and Delmore Schwartz citing owner, who's known as "The Man", he's offered an exceptional brand new drug. A unique experience will await him and his friends. Provided they only use it once. Too bad for Jason. Seems like it has no effect on him.

It will come as no surprise that this gang of idiots will break the golden rule. The result is complete hysteria with everyone's deepest desires and bizarre fantasies taking an unrestrained form. With all its consequences. An outbreak of violence and sadistic savagery is the result. A kind of "Clockwork Orange" frenzy. And this hysteria takes over the entire island. It seems as if the entire population has consumed a bit to much "Urge" and forgot about that important rule.

Afterwards I was wondering what the ultimate message was behind this story. What was it the creators wanted to show? The decay of our society? The danger of hallucinogens and other chemical mess? Or were they trying to prove that each individual has a dark side? Actually, I expected a kind of sado masochistic story after seeing those ladies with delicious curves and dressed in red latex in the beginning of the movie. Ultimately, "Urge" is like a space cake without space. Or a mushroom that should give you hallucinations, but turns out to be an innocent champignon. Nothing mind-blowing or exciting. Afterwards you'll get a sort of Machiavellian interpretation, but the meaningless and disappointing ending spoiled it somewhat. It would have been sublime if a package of "Urge" was being delivered with this film. Just to keep an open mind, while watching this rather disappointing film.

Anger about the waste of money and talent

Not going to say much more about this movie which hasn't been said yet.

Only this!

It has an easter-egg at the end and even that part they where able to run into the ground.

Wish there was an undo button so I could wipe this movie from my mind.

The worst thing of it all is that IMDb forces me to write 10 lines about this movie.

It's not worth that amount of lines.

It's a waste of the carbon emission of the energy spent to write these extra lines

The worst part were the bed scenes. And also the swimming pool scene was horrible.

And come on smoking getting out of nostrils after snoring the drug was infantile.

This was more then enough comment! Run while you can.

Put it in the bin!

I am a huge horror enthusiast and was excited about this release when I heard about it. Urge (2016) is about an obnoxious capitalist that goes to some weird island with his spoiled friends and unlikely girlfriend/secretary to drink expensive champagne and fool around. Instead they find a sinister night club where they are given a new drug that takes away their inhibitions. This premise sounds interesting because the drug, contrary to alcohol, doesn't turn people into drooling idiots at the same time...

Alas, this is an amateurish project that looks, sounds and feels like something out of a lower grade film school. This project would not have passed the final exam. I feel sorry for the director and people involved – especially Pierce Brosnan who is obviously desperate for work now. It is a dreadfully made movie that just oozes of cheapness and bad writing and acting. None of the characters seem real or even possible to accept as characters. It is all so unrealistic and trivial at the same time. The title role should say it all: Danny Masterson! And consider the fact that the club was supposed to seem cool, when it just seemed like a sleazy fetish club. The whole thing is so misdirected and lame that I couldn't even finish it. And I have finished some awful movies in my time, believe me. I have even seen all three Human Centipede movies from back to back, for example. So what does that say about this one? I am sad to say this: I give it one stars out of ten possible.

Beyond contrived

Here's the problem with Urge, the dialogue is some of the worst I've ever heard. If people really talk like this, Pierce help us. Sadly I think people do, they're known as douche bags (yes, even the women), which is what this movie should have been called.

Additionally, the acting suffers, which given the talent level and the opportunities given (or lack thereof) you figure they would have been trying to make the most of their roles. Pierce is the only one who shines, show 'em how it's done Remington Steele!

Engaging and Disturbing

I was quite surprised to see a pretentious self righteous review for this movie and after having watched it I can only conclude that the reviewer must have been confused about what they were reviewing.

The movie centers around the premise of the hedonistic lifestyle of a wealthy individual Neil (Danny Masterson) who takes pleasure in indulging himself and his group of friends with the best experiences that money can buy.

An excursion to a luxury home on island includes a trip to an exotic night club that has a sexy stylized feel similar to attending a performance art show on steroids. The opportunity to try a designer drug like no other presents itself at the club and Neil and has posse have an experience like no other the only catch is they are told they can only take it once, but told why.

The next day they are keen to recreate the experience and its then that everything starts to unravel.

The movie does not set out to preach about the dangers of drugs and it is not the theme yet you cant help but recognize the parallels between the decent into psychosis that some are unfortunate enough to experience with recreational drug use and the aberrant behavior of those taking URGE.

The ending has a interesting twist and after the final credits a short scene sets up the possibility of a follow up movie.

This movie is both engaging and disturbing in the same way as a car crash can be, you know people are being harmed but you cant help but keep watching out of macabre curiosity.

A solid 7/10 anyone who thinks otherwise needs to get over themselves.

Without a doubt the worst film I have seen this year so far. It is almost worth watching for 2 reasons :

1) Just to have something to compare other awful films to. 2) To see how low one-time A-listers will stoop to get a pay cheque.

Awful.

If you have to make a choice involving this film or literally any other film ever made, choose the other film. Even if it stars Nicolas Cage post 2012.

If this had been better I would have turned it off after half an hour, but through sheer morbid curiosity I watched it until the mental, deranged, senseless, rubbish ending.

Don't say I didn't want you.

Cool Idea

The first 45 minutes are so it's pretty boring, but it does get somewhat better. The ending sucks, but I think the movie does an overall good job of what's trying to accomplish. Even though the characters didn't have too much depth I still think the makers made their point about drug use and loss of inhibition. I just wish the party scenes had been a more detailed so that we can see exactly what all the drug was supposed to have done.

Although the former James Bond have a convincing performance, if this sort of film is what we've got to look forward to in a new generation of modern day drug, sexual hormonal 365 day rip offs of 50 shades rubbish then I won't be watching any. You can already tell up to ten minutes into the film it's going to be a cringe fest. Purging your inhibitions

Urge is badly done cautionary tale of living life to an excess. It has a nightclub scene which reminded me of Eyes Wide Shut masked ball scene and it made that movie's laughable soft core scenes look like a work of art.

The film follows a an obnoxious tech millionaire and his cronies flying to an island where they enter an exclusive nightclub. One of them, Jason is invited to meet the mysterious club owner (Pierce Brosnan) who is rather devilish. He gives Jason a drug called Urge that allows people to be uninhibited and urges them to share the drug with his friends but they can only use it once.

Jason seems unaffected by Urge but the others have the time of their lives and they ignore the warnings and try it again. This time they become angry, paranoid and violent as deep seated resentments bubble over. It seems infectious as the whole island have gone off the rails with random acts of extreme violence.

Brosnan pops up now and then with some philosophical advice but the film is incoherent, messy, boring and filled with unlikeable people. The women are sexy and this and at least provide suitable eye candy.

What am I?

Urge is a psychedelic, apocalyptic, sexy, horror, thriller, flick. That is to say, its not sure what it is and as a result, nor is the audience.

I simply did not know what to make of this film. Its has a reasonable cast and Pierce Brosnan puts in a couple of fun appearances but that's really about it. For me, the scripting is far too convoluted, to really hold this film together. As a result, what you get, I would describe as cinematic "confetti".Lots of things happening, that have nominal meaning on their own but don't really work well, as a coherent whole.

The result is a film that looks interesting but never goes anywhere, interesting. My advice, give this one a pass. Four out of ten from me.

I have the urge to go back in time...

I've come to the conclusion that any recent film with Pierce Brosnan in it is a B movie of dubious quality. The only thing I was relieved to find out on watching this train-wreck was that my Rule still holds true.

He must have burnt through all his dosh from his 007 days. I think I'll be steering clear of Mr Brosnan in future.

BTW, as far as the moral that this movie was trying to convey: I get it entirely. Unfortunately it's presented in the most ham-fisted, uninspiring and boring way that it's not worth the bother. Honestly - not even any revealing sex scenes to at least make watching this more interesting.

OK, not amazing, but not bad at all

Quite enjoyable little thriller. Annoyingly rich 1%'ers get f*cked on drugs and it goes a little strange.

unleash the "id" where your basic needs are as depraved as you want them to be. Well the drug Urge allows that, and then some on repeat use.

Yes, some bits are not the best acting, but in general its not a bad movie at all. Worth the 2hrs.

Shockingly the sex scenes are not cringe worthy, camera angles are not obtuse. A well made flick but not quite top hole, well a little way away.

worth waiting till the end of the credits for that little bit extra. ;D

Not so much a lurid movie, but a morality play

Pierce Brosnan gets to star off character once again as he continues to extend to portfolio of movies including a nasty assassin in Survivor (2015) and a more amenable one in Tailor of Panama (2001), or The Ghost Writer (2010) where he plays a questionable politician. In this movie, Urge is the new drug and a group of elite young mostly high- class friends get an invitation to try it, but only once. What results is not so much a lurid movie, but a morality play. By focusing not on the sensually sordid (which a majority of movie might) but on the action of human beings this movie attempts to offer up another look at humanity in a way that seems more fascinatingly almost surrealistically horrid than strictly dramatic thriller. But movie eventually takes the easy way out by avoiding an extended explanation and experience of how the climax of the movie is arrived out. What is nice about the movie is the way it insinuates what is going on without ever explicitly revealing it and how not always the characters one might suspect will end up with there denouement. A more artistic and meaningful experience to watch after this one would be Stanley Kubrick's Eyes Wide Shut (1999).

The prequel to a film no-one asked to be made

Urge appears to be the prequel to a film that no-one would ever want to watch. It cannot decide what it wants to be thriller? Horror? Cautionary drug tale? Social commentary?

It is in fact none of those things. It feels like the makers started to bore themselves and made it up as they went along cramming in more and more nonsense.

Its like the film you make up between your friends when you're 17 and stoned, riddled with loose ends and inconsistencies and when you wake in the morning you feel embarrassed how good you thought it seemed but in this case they actually made it!

The characters are pointless and unlikable their roles within the film a mystery to the viewer. Although it hopes to seem deep it says nothing except humans are essential bad people which is in fact nonsense unless your talking about the writer of this film.
