Main campaign is only half the game
darkphoenix-8316417 December 2015
I love Resident evil games in general, but as of late they've shifted the focus more on action rather than horror aspects. The Revelations series serves to remind us that Capcom is still fully capable of delivering chills and creating horrifying creatures. The final boss is truly a beautifully grotesque work of art that disturbs as much as fascinates. The game is also filled with eerie moments and intense encounters all the while providing limited ammunition, so every shot counts. However, as interesting as the main campaign is, Riot mode is where the real meat lies, taking up hours and hours of your time in an addictive mini-role playing action game that will give you a unique experience with every character you build up from scratch. All in all, a must have for fans of survival horror and action alike.

A refreshing direction for the franchise with good thriller story. All characters, returning and new, are delightfully likable.

Resident Evil games of last gen have been reasonably successful and they are also the subject of many criticisms. The prevailing theme is the addition of partner, which may boost the action but leaves the horror aspect unpolished. Revelations 2 isn't as big budget as a couple of previous titles, but this is probably the closest Capcom has ever been in mixing horror and action together.

Story follows two perspectives; Clarie's and Barry's, both with their respective partners. The campaign spans across four episodes, shifting between Claire and Barry repeatedly. This is a great direction since the narrative is pretty complex, but not to the point of overwhelming as Resident Evil 6 four campaigns. Clarie and Moira, Barry's daughter, are kidnapped and taken to an island. They are unwilling participants for a bizarre experiment. Meanwhile, Barry is going to said island later in the future to investigate the incident. There he meets with a strange orphan Natalia.

The two stories work dynamically as they complement each other. Things happened in Claire's perspective might have impact on Barry's and there are certain events that are revealed after completing the counterpart. The transition is smooth, and this is quite a feat since the areas for each episode are shared between the two. Characters are likable, I find myself caring about their ordeals, which is rare when playing Resident Evil games.

Dialogues are decent, it still has the campy feel of B-movie, but with more emphasis on humor this time around. Dubbers perform the voices to suit the characters, especially Moira who throws profanity at a whim. Plot may not be as bombastic as the fall of a city, although this smaller scale actually works to the game's benefit. It gives more focus and lets the players invest on the characters.

Unfortunately, graphic suffers a slight frame rate. For most of the time the game runs smoothly, but as it changes area or tries to perform intricate scenes the visual will screech almost to a halt for a few seconds. This will hamper the game more than a couple of times. Design for the setting is good, the island has all the bits of previous titles. Claire and Barry will go through prison, village, city and odd facilities. It's definitely leaning towards horror effect, its gritty corridors and abandoned outback are memorably fitting without being too flashy.

Gameplay is interchangeable between two characters, or you can get a friend to play the support character. Each main character has the ability to fight, while the support mainly dabble in finding items and are not too proficient in combat. The AI isn't shabby, but playing with another person is definitely better since AI still encounters some issues. For those who are familiar with third person shooter, Revelations 2 won't pose much trouble.

It has standard basic mechanic while offering simple upgrades with skills and parts. Previous titles are more like a corridor based shooter, players clear a segment with gun blazing and move on to next one. Revelations changes that with predominant horror thriller aspect, some simple puzzles as well as a bit of exploration. It's not large by any means, however this type of gameplay fits Resident Evil atmosphere very well in just the moderate amount so it won't plod the pace. Add quaint graphic and eerie sound effects, the game is a legitimate addition to Resident Evil lore.

Revelations 2 story has average playtime. It can be finished in about 10 hours. After player is done with Campaign, there are two separate extra episodes, each clocking at about one hour. There's also Raid Mode which is a gauntlet with different objective. This resembles Mercenary Mode from previous titles, where players can go through multitude of stages and unlocks different upgrades from main story. If one is interested, there are plenty of medals and records to achieve, but I don't think this will buff the playthrough more than once or twice.

For episodic title Revelations 2 has a lot of content, certainly the best bang for your buck. With likable returning as well as new characters and pleasantly good story, Revelations 2 is a great addition to the franchise and genre.

===================================

Graph : Good design on characters and setting, but the technical aspect is flawed. 6.5/10

Sound : Interesting voice works and scores. Script has corny Resident Evil vibe and it's actually funny this time. 8/10

Gameplay : Presentable third person shooter with partner gimmick. The throwback to horror element is a nice touch. 7.5/10

Presentation : Improvement on story and hefty content will definitely entertain the genre fans and action enthusiast. 8/10

Overall 7.5/10

Your 3D review from Ratcat IMDbs only games reviewer for 3D compatibility

Warning: Spoilers
With an NVidia video card and nVision 3D this game works very well in 3D. You need to set depth to full and convergence... well it is up to you but the 3D experience seems so much better with everything simply oozing out of your screen so play with convergence until your character is small but not tiny. As with previous recommendations go to the Helix web site. There is no fix for this game as it really doesn't need one but our friend Helix has a set of video settings which make the experience excellent. Do a web search for Helix 3D wrapper or Helix game 3d or simply go to - the helix web page for a complete list of games and recommended settings.

In video settings, just a few tweaks and RE - revelations 2 will look great. The game itself is a fun game and the best game is a game that you can enjoy. It has a few momentary glitches but overall it is really enjoyable. Just one of those games that you will find yourself immersed in and time simply flies by. The developer could have made it a bit more interesting by adding a few more combo moves and given the younger teen character a weapon other than melee but we are talking about a game that is a few years old now. As with past reviews the most important aspect is simply enjoyment. Did you become stuck? Was a puzzle too hard or you just couldn't find your way out? Well never fear, RE2 revelations is well polished and the difficulty on medium is certainly do-able. Puzzles aren't 'impossible' and the game progresses at a nice pace. Do yourself a Molly and play RE-Rev2. Well since It has been ten or more years playing games in 3D the time has come to delve into VR... Virtual reality is here and we need someone to step up and review games in both VR and 3D. If you want to see your game reviewed in either 3D or VR feel free to email me, Paul at ratcat0@hotmail.com. May all your games be good ones, Paul out!

Fun, disturbing, and emotional.

Resident Evil: Revelations 2 was, in my opinion, one of the best games of the series. Raid Mode especially was fun, and the fact that you can be able to play co-op in this game's campaign, unlike the previous installment, Resident Evil: Revelations. The story's main characters are Claire Redfield and Barry Burton's daughter, Moira. It's almost impossible for starters, but it's pretty fun. I recommend this to Resident Evil franchise fans and new-comers!

Revelations of Dread
hellraiser710 November 2016
I'm a fan of the Resident Evil franchise it's one of my favorite games of all time, though unfortunately like with most video game franchises as time goes on the pace slows down as fast as a zombie walk. The first Revelations game I felt really made the franchise pick up the pace again but I did like the first revelations game but truth be told didn't totally love it because the story wasn't that memorable, but that's just how I feel.

The second outing I personally like a lot more because of the story as well as the new kind of format they utilize. I really like the fact that they went for the episodic/cliffhanger approach which of course is utilized for the Teletale games; I think this format fits the game perfectly which made it all the more suspenseful because after beating one episode I couldn't wait to play the next one because I wanted to know what else will happen, what going on, and what more there is to uncover. But also in the utilization of the split story format which as usual in the franchise is great because it kind makes the story a bit of a puzzle as were seeing thing in different perspectives and finding out how both connect.

The story I think is great as it's pretty much focused on both Berry and Clare whom we haven't seen in a while. That's one of the things I love about this franchise whenever they bring characters were familiar with their even more interesting because you can see both physically and personally how much they've changed and how much the war against Umbrella and the Undead have affected them. I even like how the story adds one or two things new to the mythos of the franchise.

The graphics are very good, from the character animation from the protagonists to the monsters that are delightfully nasty as usual. But I really like the use of darkness and the grittiness and wear of the enviorment making it feel like a world that is against you completely unfriendly and just falling apart.

Gameplay is great it's the familiar format like with RE4 and the first Revelations and I personally wouldn't want it any other way. There is plenty of action but it's not in overabundance it hits at all the right times, and I like that you actually have a bit of strategy because in some battles you can't always fight you way out because of not just the odds but how fast certain situations can drain your ammo. So you kinda have to weigh in on fight or flight, it's up to you depending on what the situation dictates so choose carefully your life depends on it.

But of course what really powers the game is in the suspense and scares and this game thankfully has plenty of them which was I'll admit seemed to be sorely missing in the franchise. There were some situation and moment that literally made me tense, like in one sequence when a horde of zombies and monsters is coming out for an ambush, I thought oh crap I better put the petal to the metal to do what I have to do to get the hell out of there. Or even just simply venturing into those dark buildings was intense as your not sure what the hell to expect whether there could be a booby trap or even a zombie in the next turn or room. And of course that music in the game is great, I really like it whenever there is this really tense/scary toon that starts up which acts as an alarm that danger is coming and it's time to get ready for battle or retreat.

Hopefully they'll be a third and possibly final game for this, the ending did give a little hint of the possibility after all. But if that happens they'll have to change the game play up again may'be utilize the same one from the upcoming seventh volume in the franchise. But if a third game doesn't happen then I'm fine with that also, sometimes it's best to quit while your ahead.

The Revleations for this sequel are good.

Complex challenges
kluseba20 January 2019
Resident Evil: Revelations 2 was one of the very first Playstation 4 games I bought back in 2015 and it took me a whopping three years to complete this game. There are a lot of positive and negative elements about the game even though I would overall consider it an above average to good game.

On the positive side, the twisted story is quite interesting. It takes place in two different timelines which is an interesting concept. There are also multiple different characters to control with different objectives which adds some change and pace to the franchise. The story revolves around the events on an isolated island where an experiment has gone terribly wrong and has had grisly short- and long-term consequences. The different chapters are very challenging, detailed and long. The opponents are at times tough to fight, especially the bosses. The most recent editions even include two bonus episodes among other elements. If you purchase this game, you will have numerous hours of game play as Resident Evil: Revelations 2 truly offers value for money.

On the negative side, I think the game is a little bit too long overall. The fight sequences are quite repetitive and fighting the bosses for hours and hours can become quite frustrating. I often played the game for a week or two, took a break of several months and then resumed playing. That's why it took me nearly three years to make it through this epic game.

If you like the Resident Evil franchise or intense horror games in general, you simply can't get around this game because it offers high-quality long-term entertainment. On the other side, you need to bring some patience to accept the challenge to make it until the very end.

Recommended for fans, and new players!!!
kollarkristian127 March 2015
Resident evil was a bad game from the 6th game, but now the real- real game came back to Us!!! This game is absolutely fantastic: the graphics, the zombies, the characters, just the DIALOGUES are a little bit strange. I like the "episode thing", but not at this game. They should make a full game, but it's never mind... A little bit of bad critics: The beginning of the game was like "The evil within". It was really bloody and disgusting, but the Resident evil feeling will come back, but not at Barry's campaign, it is like "The evil within" too... As I said some of the dialogs are strange, for example: Barry: Do you have parents? Natalia: No, I lost them (...) Barry: You are a brave kid. Natalia: Thanks... Barry: I'm not gonna ask other questions... And they are saying these at normal voice.

So finally, this game is not bad, but not the best. I give for it 87%. I think this game is recommended for fans, and new Resident evil players!!!

What Resident Evil 6 should have been
maxglen7 February 2021
Warning: Spoilers
After enjoying the first Resident Evil Revelations I decided to pick up it's sequel after hearing good things and I must say it did not disappoint. Resident Evil Revelations 1 was a breath of fresh air for the franchise, making the shooting controls tighter than ever and returning to the series' horror roots (For the most part) Revelations 2 continues down this path but is at the same time, a very different game to it's predecessor. The episodic format is back and honestly it works a lot better here; In the first game I could have taken or left it but here there is very little backtracking, which makes moving from location to location and episode to episode feel more natural. The story is intriguing and the tone is quite a bit darker than even the other Resident Evil games, feeling almost like Saw at points. This game definitely wants to get back under your skin after years of action based Resident Evils and I think, for the most part, it succeeds. The new enemy designs are gross and the invisible larvae/human hybrids that lay their young on your broken body are really quite frightening. This time round the story is cut into two play-throughs like in past titles but here they happen alongside each other, having to play through both simultaneously to get the full picture. Each of these 2 storylines has 2 characters; Timeline 1 has fan favourite Claire Redfield and Moira Burton, a likeable foul mouthed young woman with a traumatising past hanging over her every action, and timeline 2 has RE Classic alumni Barry Burton making a return in search for his daughter alongside Natalia, a mysterious young girl who can sense infected from a distance. The story is a semi sequel to Revelations 1, making references to Terragrigia and the FBC but is much more of a continuation of Resident Evil 5, 2 and 1, providing a solid continuation to the Oruboros virus introduced in 5 as well as a new chapter in the lives of Barry and Claire. In my humble opinion, THIS is what Resident Evil 6 should have been. A few extra notes before I leave you are the soundtrack, which is fantastic and atmospheric and the voice acting which is enjoyably cheesy at worst and emotionally engaging at best. Not too much bad to say about this one, up there with some of the best Resi games if you ask me. Strong 8 out of 10

The Return of the Nightmare
AntonioLenciano4 July 2021
Resident Evil: Revelations 2 tells the story of the kidnapping and forced to fight for the survival of the sister of the legend of the Resident Evil universe - Chris Redfield - Claire Redfield and the daughter of the known from the first part - Barry Burton - who also got his own piece of a separate story.

The game begins with a movie, and the first episode taking place in the prison facility is reminiscent of the structure of the "Saw" film series with its structure.

Along with the twentieth part of the Resident Evil series, the production theme known from the first part returns, emphasized even more than before.

It is worth noting that Resident Evil: Revelations 2 starts in many ways better than its predecessor.

The site models look really dingy - but the dingy, given the nature of the production, is "beautiful". Carefully designed locations in such a way as to perfectly reflect the atmosphere of horror and the spirit of the roots of the series by designing a spooky dark mansion.

Finally, the survival model that was so lacking in the two previous installments of the cycle also returns. You should manage your resources wisely and carefully look for new ones by browsing through the nooks and crannies.

The production perfectly keeps the player in suspense, in nervous anticipation of what he will find behind the next door.

Worth mentioning is the excellently constructed sound.

The ubiquitous snoring of opponents, the creaking and shuffling of the surroundings or powerful gunshots give the game an unmistakable atmosphere, which is complemented by music that creates an aura of tension.

The opponents, as always in the series of the Resident Evil universe - are perfectly (monstrously) designed. Their attacks towards the player are often accompanied by a course of chills mixed with a sense of disgust and fear.

The cooperation system between the characters also differs from its predecessor, which was constructed very nicely. Depending on the choice of character, the entire character of the game changes, so that boredom and repetition do not creep in.

Companions deal with opponents much better than their predecessors from the "number one". Including they can focus the enemy's attention and take an active part in the fight.

The (mini) boss fights are very well designed.

Interesting, boring, challenging but achievable.

And the final itself is a masterpiece of production.

If something casts a shadow on this sensational production, it is the implementation of "invisible walls", occasional blocking of enemies or problems with graphic textures.

With a good feeling, the game is quite a challenge for our nerves and mental resilience.

Last time my nerves were put to the test by Dead Space 2.

Everything is terribly correlated with each other - so are the locations, appearing opponents, psychedelic music and a dense atmosphere.

What more could you want from survival-horror?

Rating: 9/10.

Simply one of the best
emrekiriscioglu5 August 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Although Resident Evil 7 is seen as the savior of the franchise, Revelations 2 proves that Capcom was back on track just a bit before the series reemerged in the mainstream.

Due to the episodic structure, I ignored this game for far too long until I came back to it in 2022 when I was hungry for RE content. Only to realize that Revelations 2 offered a perfect blend of Survival-Horror and Action.

Many of the elements in the game, especially the sheer atmosphere, can make you feel the despair second trilogy entirely forgot about. It's harder to find ammo, enemies don't drop items, you have to craft certain life-saving items, and even though you're better equipped at certain situations, you never lack that thrill of survival during the entirety of the game. It's especially admirable that it manages all these without the classic sticking to the "stuck in one place" formula. It uses a rather better combination of linear gameplay combined with a "stuck" situation, much like the one in Resident Evil Village.

Does it have problems? Yes. I was especially annoyed at the fact that getting a "canon" and "bad" ending depends entirely on a single plot point that passes too quickly. When I said to myself "Hey, Claire can reach for the gun as well! Why should I let Moira relive a trauma then?" I could never guess that I messed up an entire ending, which I now couldn't change without replaying entire chapters.

Nonetheless, I enjoyed playing Revelations 2 so much that I ended up finishing the main story in just 2 days. Something that only happened in REmake, REmake2, and RE4.

Deeper than your darkest fears
MB-reviewer1856 April 2024
I did really like the first game Resident Evil: Revelations (2012), this game took place between the two games Resident Evil 4 (2005) and Resident Evil 5 (2009), along with the game feeling like two my favorite installments in the series put together, that being the first Resident Evil game and Resident Evil 4 (2005); this second game to that takes place between Resident Evil 5 (2009) and Resident Evil 6 (2012). The game Resident Evil: Revelations 2 (2015) was as good as the first game with it being scary with a creepy setting, investing and likable characters, easy to understand gameplay mechanics, and a story you want to see more of; there might be an occasional line of dialogue that can be weird and a recap and preview for every episode that can get annoying to see every time, but you can skip them so it was not much of an issue as it could have been.

I liked being able to play as Claire Redfield since Resident Evil 2, with her being kidnapped and finding herself on this island without knowing how it happened, and she is still a likable character that you like to play as and succeed on your mission to escape and find out who did this to her; along with new member of TerraSave Moira Burton who works with Claire to get off the island and both of them work very well together once you are able to switch characters on multiple occasions. The other two characters you play as are Moira's father Barry Burton and this little girl found on the island named Natalia who goes with Barry who is trying to find his daughter and Claire, while bonding with Natalia, and learning about his relationship with his daughter; you can play as the little girl and she certain abilities that can help. Lastly, I will just say without spoilers that it is revealed when certain events took place when playing as the characters, and they connect in some way I was not expecting when going back and forth with each character.

Like the first Revelations game, I like the setting, the idea of being stuck on a monster/mutant infested island and trying to escape just sounds cool, and it was also creepy and did freak me out a couple of times while playing; also, the mutant monsters can be difficult to defeat depending on what weapon you use and what character you are playing as, with an occasional cheesy funny line of dialogue. The graphics are nice to look at and the gameplay mechanics are easy to use with you having to switch between the character you are playing as and the person you are with to do certain things; a creepy atmosphere with a good sense of danger whenever you are near a monster/mutant, and I will not spoil a reveal of a certain character who is responsible for what is happening, I will just say that it was surprising to find out.

The game Resident Evil: Revelations 2 (2015) is worth a playthrough with it being scary with a creepy setting, investing and likable characters, easy to understand gameplay mechanics, and a story you want to see more of; just watch out for a recap and preview cutscenes for every episode because it can get annoying to see every time, but you can skip them. I will end my thoughts by saying this is what makes Resident Evil fun to play, having it be a creepy survival horror game, and that is what the fifth and sixth game had lost track of; this is worth playing for those Resident Evil fans out there, and for people who just want to play a fun, creepy, and enjoyable horror survival game.
