Why? Just why?

Low budget indie film not worth the time. I love an indie horror flick when the story/stories are somewhat original but this was not one of them.

Do not waste your time
hosackl-122 October 2016
Hahahahahaha. I love to see the 10/10 ratings for this movie. Don't they realize how transparent their bias is? IMDb should require reviewers to fill out a conflict of interest form, and if someone signs it and there is later suspicion that there was, in fact, a conflict, then that person should have legal action taken against them, at the most, or banned from IMDb for life, at the least. I'm making a big deal out of this because there is so much crap out there that it is really hard to wade through all the BS to find something that is vetted and worthy of my precious time. Verrrrrry frustrating. This is a 3/10 horror movie, at best. Cheesy special effects, stupid stories, low production value, just....stupid. I actually think the acting is the, ahem, bright spot in this turd. I understand that this is an independent effort but for the love of God, if this is what your final product is, then don't bother making it. If this movie were a person it would have 3 legs, 4 arms, horns, hooves and an IQ of 12.

Just don't bother.

Glad I saw the sequel first
berg-7453217 July 2019
The sequel had issues like why all these monsters or people gather in one forest but this movie is so bad I can't believe a second one was made but that is the better movie. The worst actor in this movie was the guy that play David in the smiling Jack bit and I was shocked to see he is a recurring actor on Gotham. Watch the second one first and it will be easier to sit through this and you'll see what happened to lead to what happens in the sequel.

An Adult/Indie Horror Film
gwnightscream8 October 2019
Warning: Spoilers
This 2016 horror anthology film tells about a guy who tells weird tales to his girlfriend. This is basically like an adult/indie horror film and the only good thing is some of the girls have nice bodies. The cast stinks, the stories are boring and the characters are unlikeable. If you're looking for actual, horror anthologies, skip this and check out "Creepshow" or "Trick 'r Treat."

This should be called "rich parents with talentless kids make a terrible movie".
ivegotgeemail29 September 2019
This is what happens here in LA when rich people give their kids a bunch of money to blow on something they know nothing about. These hacks can't even figure out simple dialogue! Example..a bunch of friends out in the woods that were in different groups. Everything is fine, but suddenly a guy gets murdered. Girl hanging out with murdered guy runs back to others (who have no idea what's going on) and says "John just died!!" (I forget his actual name). Their response wasn't, " WTF HAPPENED!!" or "HOW!!! WTF!!!". Their response was, "Are you sure?" WHAT??! SERIOUSLY??!?!?! You're camping and your friend runs back and tells you another friend is dead, and you respond by saying, "are you sure?" without asking wtf happened?? My 12 year old could write better dialogue. That's just a taste of how bad this movie is. I will give it this...if anyone is a fan of Troll 2, you may LOVE this movie. For those who don't know, Troll 2 has a cult following as the worst horror movie ever made. So if you like movies that are hilariously terrible, then definitely watch this. My wife and I were busting up the whole time. If you're just looking for a horror movie, then watch just about anything other than this movie. Home Alone scared me more than this movie. Dead serious. 😂😂

This is what actors do for free when they can't find paying work
vasiln4 October 2016
A couple tells each other scary stories until the lights come back on: a hunter encounters a siren in the woods; a slasher terrorizes a group of actors in the woods; a horde of drones hunt down hikers in the woods; and a clown kills more actors in, you guessed it, the woods.

Compared to movies made by brand new filmmakers, on a behind-the-sofa-cushions budget, filmed over the course of a few weekends in the neighboring trails, widely released to just about anybody that will show it, Terrortory is better than might be expected. So, filmmakers, please don't be discouraged, and please keep trying.

Compared to feature length horror films, with budgets that don't need a decimal point, intended for theatrical release, Terrortory isn't good.

Youtube quality production values, without any real charm or originality to compensate. The actors were mostly competent, but they couldn't save the film on their own.

To really enjoy the movie, you have to respect low-budget filmmaking.

'TERRORTORY': Three Stars (Out of Five)

An ultra-low-budget anthology horror movie, telling six different supernatural tales. It was written and directed by three indie filmmakers; Dan Doran, Kevin Kangas and Mark Wenger. It stars a cast of completely unknown actors. The film is pretty cheesy, and amateurish, but there are a few quality elements to it; especially considering how low-budget it is.

The movie centers around a couple that's trying to entertain each other, while waiting for the electricity to come back on during a power outage. The guy (Brad Masters) tries to impress his female friend (Laura Kiser), by telling her five very bizarre scary stories. Each supernatural tale revolves around different people being stalked, and killed, in the woods. The segments are titled 'Gotz', 'Siren', 'The Prowler', 'Smiling Jack', 'The Drone Collector' and 'The Midnight Clown'.

At first the film was pretty painful to watch (full of atrocious dialogue, nonsense stories, and bad acting); but as it went on, I started to notice several elements I liked to it. I think to really enjoy the movie, you have to respect low-budget filmmaking; being an ultra-low-budget filmmaker myself, this is something I can do. The movie is pretty bad, in comparison to mainstream horror flicks, but for a next to no-budget film, it's not that horrible (some of it is kind of cool).

A perfect indie horror anthology set in Baltimore
nealcj19841 October 2016
The basic premise of this movie is that a young couple are on vacation in the woods when all the lights go out, so they spend the rest of the night in the dark discussing "the terrortory," the portion of woods they are in that is full of urban legends. This is the frame story for all the other stories told (titled Gotz) and it definitely does not end up where I thought it would, with the final minutes including one of the best sets of lines in the movie.

The stories being told are Siren (a hunter encounters a strange woman), The Prowler (a film set has someone come shake up down time between filming), Smiling Jack (a duo of hikers are chased by a slasher), The Drone Collector (a group of hikers are chased by drones), and The Midnight Clown (a group of filmmakers are terrorized by a clown).

My favorite two stories were Smiling Jack and The Midnight Clown. I felt those were the best two executed shorts that could work as feature length films. Smiling Jack is by far one of my favorite shorts from any anthology, I considered it that amazing! As with any indie movie, some segments did have a few faults. The Prowler had audio that didn't match the other segments and was too low. The Drone Collector also had a scene of really bad audio peaking. And for a microsecond in The Midnight Clown there was a crew member crouching in the background.

Yet that is it. Everything else was great! Even the practical effects, those were incredibly well done. Especially in Smiling Jack towards the end, that had a gory sequence that was well executed.

I highly recommend giving this a watch.

Second Viewing
jpmellow28 January 2019
I revisited the original Terrortory tonight. Since my first viewing, I've fallen deeper into the rabbit hole that is microbudget indie filmmaking, specifically of the horror variety.

I "get it" now, and I'm a fan. You can't come into this expecting a polished film with seasoned actors (although a few are quite good). What you can expect is a fun, well-written script, some legitimately weird, scary monsters with their own memorable trademarks (DID YOU BRING ME MEAT?), some nice camerawork, a pretty terrific score, and a palpable love for the genre.

Even if there's a segment in this anthology you're not super impressed by - for me, it's 'The Prowler,' - a new one starts up before you know it.

For me, it's the writing in 'Smiling Jack' and the nightmarish weirdness of 'Gotz' that make this one of my new favorites. Support these for-the-love-of-moviemaking filmmakers! There's a lot here to admire.

Poorly made, but still sort of charming
jdollak17 October 2016
Warning: Spoilers
I'll watch any horror anthology. My standards are usually pretty low for them, since I only expect a modicum of cleverness.

I liked this, in a strange way. It's not well written. Too many of the segments seem thematically similar. There are some technical problem, like some poor photography and especially some poor sound work.

But it doesn't come across like it's trying too hard. And there's a sense of fun that spreads across the whole thing. These seem like everyone was usually having a good time.

The acting is unremarkable, in a poor way. But it doesn't reach the level of being truly bad. These look like people who never intended to make acting a career - they're doing these short films for fun.

More importantly, the stories are usually pretty predictable, but there's usually a little twist that I didn't see coming. Smiling Jack? The sequence where he "eats" isn't a detail I expected. The oddity of the scene with the guy watching the couple in the tent? It's strange, and I'm pleased that I didn't expect to see that in this movie.

I can't say this is a worthwhile watch for casual viewers, but I think it's got something to offer fans of the genre. It might be forgettable, but it's a little more charming than dull.

Low budget effort with very few high points
Mikel315 October 2016
Warning: Spoilers
It's October and Halloween is right around the corner. We were looking for something scary to watch we'd never seen before. I checked on Amazon Prime and found a couple of new horror anthologies described as being like 'Creepshow' and 'Tales from the Crypt'.

I found this film and another low budget one that was recently made. The other is the better of the two and no gem either. When I see these films I realize they're low budget and perhaps a first effort for talented young film makers so I cut them some slack and give them a chance. Everyone starts somewhere and good low budget films have been made, especially in the horror genre.

With that in mind the framing story and also the first segment in the anthology called 'Siren' showed promise. 'Siren' can be taken as an interesting twist on the hunter becoming the prey after promising his wife venison to eat. Since I'm against hunting of any kind for sport, I saw a certain poetic justice in this segment. Even a reference of sort to hunters using decoys to attract their prey. The ending to 'Siren', intentional or not, was ripped off from 'The Descent'(2005). Still it was an okay entry.

Unfortunately from this point on the stories went downhill. I realized there was no real hope for the overall film reaching any kind of quality when they resorted to showing a stereotype chubby nerdy guy playing with himself behind a tree as he observed what he thought were two lovers in a tent. All he could even see WAS the outside of the tent not the couple inside. Watching the couple would have been sick enough, yet somehow the tent alone excited him. He was supposed to be one of a group of film makers in the woods. I saw no reason whatsoever for this stupid scene and it took the whole film to a lower level.

I will not get into detail on the remaining segments. I will say they were amateurishly acted and had pointless plots for the most part. Also the sound quality was often terrible. We had to turn the volume way up just to hear the dialog in parts, not that it mattered much hearing it, I suppose. There was the required bare-chested bimbo T&A scene in 'The Midnight Clown' segment. It was thrown in as if the viewers expected it so let's get this in somehow. She just lifted up her shirt to show one of the guys with a camera who wanted her to.

I should mention that the framing story of the couple with the sleeping child was okay, like the first segment was. I wish they had explained to us better what was actually going on with the creature that attacked them and what was happening to the dead to make them look like bug eyed dolls or whatever. On a bright note...I did find the final scene where the couple decide to go to the beach a humorous twist. I'll just say it "almost" made up for all the time wasted on the other segments.

I'm Glad I watched it Twice!!
nicmarie-775791 December 2021
Warning: Spoilers
The 1st time I watched this film, I definitely saw the "Tales From The Crypt" Vibe. Plot started with Datenight In Darkness!! F that!! Telling scary stories to your girlfriend about The Terrortory. Felt like the 80's & had outdoors Camp Crystal Lake setting. Missing Jason Voorhees, Did have a scarecrow wearing a Jack O Lantern & a Creepy AF clown!! What's a clown doing in the forest!! Granted it is VERY LOW BUDGET & the different stories drift in different directions a little. Apparently that is what the woods in Baltimore Maryland look like. I was not impressed with the fx gore & blood. Flesh looks like it was bought at Party City. Also the acting. Let's just say I felt like I was back in 1st period Drama Freshman Year. Hence Low Budget. I was impressed with actual Face makeup, wardrobe & boob jobs!!! The 2nd time the story line made more sense along with the GOTZ nightmare!! I will admit it!! I liked it!! I'm an avid Horror fan that loves Low Budget Independent short films!! Last but not least wearing your boyfriends MegaDeath Shirt! She did probably the best the entire film with her role. Being a mom myself I would appreciate the mom role in a horror story& The song Hold The Night played during Credits!! Perfect close for this Low Budget Weekend Blockbuster!! On to the Sequel!!

Is that a clown?
nogodnomasters24 September 2017
Warning: Spoilers
The film is an anthology of 5 tales told while a young couple vacations. They all involve the woods in Maryland. The film opens with an interesting map. The five original tales (for the most part) tended to be amateurish without great endings. The camera work was suspect. The acting wasn't great with perhaps the best made feature was "Smiling Jack." I liked Melissa LaMartina. One episode included adult star Nadia White for the token topless scene. The first episode has nude model Meadow Bosworth in a see-through gown wanting meat. The film showed some clever writing, unfortunately the execution left something to be desired. There also needs to be an episode that ties them all together, something more than a map.

Guide: F-word, sex, nudity.

Wow, great story
bobgray-322 August 2019
Just think, higher budget absolutely loaded with CGI this could have great. I know people like practical special effects but I'm a CGI lover, sorry. The story was great but show the evil as mythical creatures with killer CGI and.... Wow what a story.
