The second feature film from Tim Brown has been a long time coming. It has been ten years since his debut film The Cradle. In between he has been producing flicks, for example he has worked with our friends from Antisocial 2, Bite and The Sublet. Brown is back behind the camera once again directing a script from first time writer Carey Dickson called Devil in the Dark. The film stars Robin Dunne (Syfy's Sanctuary), Dan Payne (Star Trek Beyond), Daniel Cudmore (X-Men: Days of Future Past), and Briana Buckmaster (The CW's Supernatural). When estranged brothers Adam and Clint attempt to reconnect over a week-long hunting trip in remote British Columbia, they find the tables turned by a mysterious presence lurking in the...

Canadian horror specialists Black Fawn Films have been slowly but surely producing genre product for a number of years. The team first hit our radar when Anitsocial hit the UK back in 2013 (the film made my Top 10 of the year), since then we’ve had films like The Drownsman, Antisocial 2, The Sublet and Bite.
Their latest film, which will screening at the 2017 European Film Market in Berlin this month, is The Heretics. Produced by Cody Calahan (Antisocial, Bed of the Dead) and directed by Chad Archibald (The Drownsman, Bite) the film tells the story of…

While her friends and family search for her, the source of her illness becomes more and more apparent. She’s not sick…...

Their latest is titled Let Her Out. This feature deals with a young women, who has a twin growing inside her. Similar in story to Jason Bognacki's Another (2014), this "vanishing twin" turns Helen's (Alanna LeVierge) life into a living hell. This accident causes blackouts and strange behaviour. Helen becomes unhinged as a tumour begins to ascend in power. And, she must find a way to free herself of this disturbing manifestation. Black Fawn Films is one of the busiest production houses in the country. While an early screener of Bed of the Dead did not wow this critic,...

A new trailer has been released for Bed of the Dead. A co-production between Black Fawn Films and Breakthrough Entertainment, Bed of the Dead will have its World Premiere at the Fantasia Film Festival, in Montreal. In the film, a group of friends find themselves trapped on an antique bed. They are plagued by hallucinations, which bring horrifying visions. Written by Cody Calahan (Antisocial 2) and Jeff Maher, the film stars: Colin Price, Alysa King, Gwenlyn Cumyn and more. The film's first trailer is available here. The trailer shows a few dire situations. One character meets a bloody end, in an early scene. Another character is burnt to death. Meanwhile, the four friends fall asleep in the haunted bed. And quickly, they experience strange visions. While the film requires a much better movie poster, the trailer shows bright settings and interesting, bloody scenarios. A bloodbath on the Bed of the Dead.

Well here it is, my Top 15 films of 2015. If you’ve ever read one of my end of year lists, you’ll know that my choices tend to be a million miles away from the mainstream; and this year is no different! This year has been Amazing for films, I could easily had penned a list of 52 films – one for each week of the year – but instead I managed to narrow down the choices to 28 films quite swiftly. However, to hit this years target of a Top 15 (for 2015 geddit?) it took a hell of a lot of work. I think this list even surprises me – there’s a number of films that going back over the 508[!] films we’ve reviewed here on Nerdly in 2015, at the time I reviewed them, I didn’t expect would stay with me till the end of the very end of the year. Oh, and...

Years after having her newborn child stolen from her, Sam searches a world infested with infected users from the Social Redroom website. After befriending a young girl named Bean, Sam is captured and locked in a facility dedicated to finding a cure for the Redroom virus. Trapped and tortured, Sam tries to escape the facility before an impending update on the Redroom site hits 100% and unleashed its final phase of attack…
Despite the open(ish) ending of the first Antisocial, when this sequel was announced I did wonder in just what direction Chad Archibald, Cody Calahan and the Black Fawn Films crew would take the film. After all, the original film was a one location, claustrophic horror flick that – I thought – had a finite story.

Director: Cody Calahan. Writers: Cody Calahan, Chad Archibald, Jeff Maher. Cast: Michelle Mylett, Josette Halpert, Stephen Bogaert. Cody Calahan and Chad Archibald of Black Fawn Films reunite in the sequel to 2013's Antisocial. This viewer is not a fan of the first film, so we already got off on the wrong foot but, having enjoyed Black Fawn's recent release, Bite, there was still hope for redemption. Unfortunately, even with some great atmospheric shots and some decent gore, Antisocial 2, much like the first, is simply uninteresting. While the message that social media turns people into zombies has potential, the concept is overthought and under-executed thus rendering it powerless. Michelle Mylett as Sam in Antisocial's final scene. The plot in the second film is driven by an update being installed on the social media site, The Social Redroom. The update will supposedly force everyone to become users—to connect. Suffice it to say,...

When is a sequel unnecessary? Most of the time, actually, and unfortunately Antisocial 2 happens to be one of those times. What starts out as a promising post-apocalyptic film about the first film’s survivor, Sam (Michelle Mylett), struggling to avoid "the connected" – those who were irreversibly infected by the Social Redroom’s computer virus from the first film – quickly turns into a somewhat uneventful treatise on the so-called evils of technology and the youth of today, who somehow seem to be the only ones who know how to use a computer and navigate social media adequately.

Antisocial 2, the sequel to the Canadian indie horror, will have its World Premiere at Fantasia on July 30th. Director Cody Calahan and writing partner Chad Archibald return with the next chapter in Sam's fight against the Redroom Virus. Antisocial cinematographer Jeff Maher also adds a writing credit to this sequel along with his help behind the camera once again. Michelle Mylett reprises her role as our heroine Sam. It has been several years since the events of the first film, and the Redroom Virus has won. Spawned from a mysterious social-networking website, it has infected most of the populace, turning them into mindless killers; the few survivors are divided between the uninfected and those who have been freed of the virus' influence via impromptu brain surgery....

Writer/director Cody Calahan first appeared on our radar a couple of years ago with Antisocial (trailer), a horror movie focused on a group of college students at a house party who find themselves at the centre of a virus which is transmitted via social media and which turns the afflicted into raging psychopaths.
I rather enjoyed the movie which felt timely with the rise in popularity of social media but beyond that, it featured some really creepy moments and introduced Michelle Mylett to the world. Now Calahan and producing and writing partner Chad Archibald are back with Antisocial 2.

Antisocial was social commentary on social media and its brain numbing capabilities. Now, Black Fawn Films are set to follow-up this zombie horror feature with a sequel. Aptly titled Antisocial 2, this second film was also shot in Ontario and the film will premiere at Montreal's Fantasia International Film Festival. To celebrate its debut, a trailer has been launched for Antisocial 2 and it is chock full of harrowing situations. Fans of the first film will remember the Redroom Virus. The virus is transmitted through a social media platform; and now, much of the local populace has been infected. Sam (Michelle Mylett) has saved herself, after some emergency surgery. But, she must survive in a new world, in which everyone has turned on everyone else. The premiere date for Antisocial 2 has been announced. The film will debut on July 30th. As well, filmmakers Chad Archibald will be in attendance,...
