After the not-so-successful surprise weekend, Lex devotes himself to his work at the garage. During his absence garage owner Sal was molested by the crooks from the street race. Lex feels guilty and responsible. Sal will never be able to work again and asks Lex to take over the garage. Steffi confides in Eva about their past; they are in a witness protection program.

Steffi's father dies and Eva encourages her to visit her family. At her parental house her ex-boyfriend Milo also shows up, Eva informed him on her whereabouts. Steffi runs off, but is terrified Milo will track her down. Out of guilt she keeps Lex at a distance, and Eva uses this space to make advances. From her conversations with Steffi she knows exactly what he's been missing; sex.

The sexual tension between Eva and Lex grows. Eva is everything Steffi is not; a caring mother, a great cook, and a great lover. Life's looking up for Lex, especially when neighbor Lilly is prepared to invest in the garage. Peter tries to contact Eva trough fellow patient Sjors, who is allowed on a trial leave. But Sjors demands a disproportional fee for his service in a very disturbing way.

Lex falls for the charms of Eva, who sees her dream of a new family within reach. Peter decides to forget Eva and move on with his therapist, but learns Sjors hasn't returned from his trial leave. Steffi involuntarily meets Milo and her brothers, who want to get even with Lex. Due to an unfortunate concurrence of circumstances, everything cumulates in a terrible accident in the garage.

Steffi is rushed to the hospital, but dies several hours later. Her dead strengthens the determination of Milo and Steffi's brothers to take revenge on Lex. The witness protection office discover Steffi visited her family and suspend Lex from the program. When Lex tries to flee the country with his kids, Eva convinces him otherwise.
