Great animation and style, but content left me cold

In one apartment block there lives a heartbroken man thinking of ending it all; a woman losing her last pennies thanks to internet gambling; a kleptomaniac who happens to be a surgeon; and an anxious man nervously waiting for his phone to ring. One way or another, their lives intersect one day.

I came to this film after a lot of buzz on the site Vimeo, which is not always a foolproof indication of a great film, but is for sure a good guide and more reliable than some other video sharing sites. The style and animation is visually arresting from the start and throughout; it is colourful, modern, and has an unique style to it that does draw you into the absurdity of the world in which it is set. From that point of view, I enjoyed these aspects of it – but I am not a student of animation (as if that needed saying) or a creative (ditto) and I did look to the short to deliver a narrative beyond these odd blocks of characters.

It doesn't really do this and while the film was enjoyable within its own sense of color and oddity, it didn't amount to more than this – which is still something, but short of being memorable and engaging on more than an aesthetic level.
