Ross last wore Prada in mid-January, donning a business-casual gray collarless jacket and pencil skirt, reports Fashionista. This time, the 51-year-old headed to the Prada Fall/Winter 2024-25 Womenswear presentation wearing head-to-toe Prada again.
A sheer navy skirt and white blouse served as the base of her workwear-inspired look. A mint green fringed collar livened up Ross’s top and echoed the label’s 2024 aesthetic. The daughter of Diana Ross topped the ensemble with a distressed Prada utility coat in a classic workwear colorway: tan and mahogany.

The WGA strike has forced some to consider alternative employment including temporary jobs and side hustles. Others, like Andrea Alba Von-Buren, a writers’ production assistant who worked on The CW’s Gotham Knights, launched a business by staying close to her community of scribes — and keeping them caffeinated.
In late May, she introduced Dean’s Coffee, a mobile pop-up that offers $4 coffee, tea, lattes and more for striking writers right on the picket lines. “Everything is out of my trunk and a little table with a bunch of coolers in the car,” she explained to The Hollywood Reporter’s Lesley Goldberg on June 5, adding that the reception has been overwhelmingly positive.
So much so that some showrunners and other anonymous individuals have generously chipped in to “sponsor” full days or themed picketing events so that Alba Von-Buren can dole out free cups. “It’s just been incredible and it just...

We're starting to get more and more casting details about Disney's planned live-action/CG re-working of 2002's Lilo & Stitch and a big component has fallen into place. Chris Sanders, who co-directed the original movie, and voiced alien critter Stitch, is back to provide his odd babbling once again.
Sanders is not back in the director's chair for this one –– that duty falls to Marcel The Shell With Shoes On's Dean Fleischer Camp, but Sanders' involvement is at least a positive sign. The new film has also made room for returning cast members Tia Carrere, who voiced Nani, Lilo's older sister in the original, and who will show up as a new character called Mrs. Kekoa, while Amy Hill (Mrs. Hasagawa in the 2002 entry) will play another new person called Tūtū.

Leonardo DiCaprio’s eternal youth and boyish looks may have helped his timeless stardom in Hollywood, but it only hurt his chances of starring in a James Dean biopic.
Director Michael Mann revealed he scrapped a “brilliant screenplay” about late “Rebel Without a Cause” actor Dean due to his dream lead, DiCaprio, looking too young for the part.
“That was so weird about James Dean,” Mann told Deadline. “It’s, ‘Who the hell could play James Dean?’ And I found a chap who could play James Dean, but he was too young. It was Leo. We did a screen test that’s quite amazing. I think he must’ve been 19 at the time.”
Screen legend Dean died at age 24 after a car accident in 1955 after starring in three major films.

After 15 years, it was always going to be tough to end Supernatural in a way that pleased everyone, but The CW must’ve been hoping for the long-running show’s conclusion to be less controversial than it was. In one of its last episodes, the series killed off beloved angel Castiel (Misha Collins), but not before he finally confessed that he loved Dean Winchester (Jensen Ackles). Fans had been waiting for this revelation for years, but they were furious over the fact that he died moments after it happened.
This appeared to play into the harmful Bury Your Gays trope, with Cas given a tragic fate as soon as he’s confirmed to be LGBTQ+ – something made clear by later comments from Collins. It was also a source of frustration that Dean didn’t reciprocate the feelings. Or at least, they were left unspoken. That’s not so in the...

Focusing on development, green-lighting smaller, more containable projects and urging governments to take on the role of insurers are just some of the measures co-producers are taking as they navigate their way through the fallout created by the coronavirus pandemic.
Speaking at the virtual Cannes Marché du Film’s session on Co-Production in Covid-19 Times, produced by film industry body U.K. Film, Wildgaze Films founder Finola Dwyer said that her company has already postponed shoots in Canada and the U.S. and was now focusing on development and local production.
The London-based producer of “Brooklyn” and “An Education” added: “We’re sticking to what we’re doing, holding our nerve and keeping an eye out on U.K. projects that are more self-contained – because this virus is going be with us for quite a while.”

Netflix, Disney Sony, Cartoon Network Studios, Dean DeBlois and Aardman are reading presentations at France’s Annecy Film Festival — as 2020’s Annecy, even online, once more proves to be the biggest animation fest in the world and the international event with the largest Hollywood and now global platform presence.
Put together, Annecy’s latest big wave of programming announcement suggests that its move online will mean no world premiere of a potential Hollywood blockbuster – such as, in the past, the “Despicable Me” movie series. With more studio involvement most probably still to be announced, many of the good and great of the English-speaking animation world do look more than willing, however, to roll up their sleeves to update accredited festival viewers on upcoming releases such as, of titles now announced, Netflix’s “Wendell & Wild” and Sony Pictures Animation’s “Connected.”

Pope has penned one of the episodes himself, while Gaby Chiappe (The Level), Neil McKay (The Moorside) and William Ivory (Torvill & Dean) have also written an episode each. Paul Whittington (White House Farm) and Paul Andrew Williams (A Confession) are attached as directors.

For Dean Devlin, the idea of the new Wgn America series Almost Paradise came about 14 years ago during his honeymoon in Hawaii. He connected and was intoxicated by island culture, island justice and island spirituality — and wanted to make a show set in Hawaii. His soulful connection to island life made sense considering he is of Filipino descent. With that in mind, the idea for the show shifted.
“As the years went on and I kept thinking about it, there was something there that wasn’t authentic to me,” Devlin told Deadline. “It was only a couple of years ago that the idea came to do it in the Philippines and then it changed everything. Then I got really excited about the project.”

In 1985, New Line rushed out a sequel to its breakout horror hit of the prior year. But while commercially successful enough, “A Nightmare on Elm Street 2: Freddy’s Revenge” was initially disliked by mainstream horror fans, then later won cult status, for the same reason: It struck many as “the gayest horror film of all time,” with content that was either homoerotic or homophobic or both, depending on your view.
Breaking from slasher-genre norms, its protagonist wasn’t a “Final Girl” but a cute, blond, “sensitive” high school boy for whom Robert Englund’s murderous Freddy often seemed to be a metaphor: A flaming little secret Jesse doesn’t want to “come out,” and which only the love of the girl next door (Kim Myers) can save him from. Lead Mark Patton was a closeted gay actor who considered the film’s ambivalent sexual agenda publicly “outed” him. Documentary “Scream,...

The Magicians Season 5 Episode 7
Penny brings up a good point in this week’s episode of The Magicians. He and his friends just saved our world; are they really on the hook for saving Fillory as well? We’ve certainly grown to love the world of Plover’s books, but it’s inarguably difficult to get audience buy-in to stop the Taker scourge, an enemy that pales in comparison to previous season villains and anything involving moving the Moon. The idea that the Dark King, a woefully underdeveloped character, is responsible for creating the very enemy he is lauded for vanquishing was predicted weeks ago by fans, making it even less impactful. So while “Acting Dean” was a fun episode,...

“All good things must come to an end.” Chuck’s comment in the beginning of "The Trap" is indicative both of his connection to Sam and the series’ end as a whole. It seems each episode is primed for a reference to the end, and it makes sense -- the end of the world is just about the biggest stakes you can get.
Defiance is a strong running theme in this chapter of the Winchester’s saga. Sam is defiant to Chuck’s plan. Dean is defiant to Cass’s apologies and in the confrontation with Chuck later. Chuck defies anyone to defy him. Dare to defy -- it’s a CW thing.

It’s only December 2 and we have two more episodes after this before Christmas, but this week’s “Saturday Night Live” still opened with a “Christmas Carol” homage featuring Alec Baldwin. Despite seeming to jump the gun a little bit, seasonally, it’s one of the more incisive cold opens in a little while, pounding hard at Donald Trump’s most recent string of missteps.
Afterwards, though, it was an episode devoted to having fun with a fresh face who proved game for all sorts of wackily colored wigs and character moments. If it weren’t for her opening monologue and the fact that U2 was the musical guest, you’d hardly know she was Irish.

But one independent picture you might’ve overlooked is “Dean.” Directed, written and starring comedian Demetri Martin, the warm indie dramedy deserves a bit more love, and we have DVDs for some lucky readers, to help them catch up.
Co-starring Kevin Kline, Gillian Jacobs, Mary Steenburgen, Reid Scott, Rory Scovel, Christine Woods, Ginger Gonzaga, Peter Scolari and Briga Heelan, the story follows an illustrator whose unwillingness to deal with the recent death of his mother means escaping his hometown of New York for an interview with an ad agency in Los Angeles.

At the specialty box office, reviews can have a huge impact. This weekend, “The Book of Henry” (Focus Features), Colin Trevorrow’s return to indie films, was scorched by critics and summoned only a mediocre start in 579 theaters ($1.4 million). On the other hand, the best per-theater-average came from “Hare Krishna” (Abramorama), a documentary the New York Times, normally critical in launching any specialized release, chose not to include among its reviews. It managed over $21,000 in one Manhattan theater.
While IFC’s Northern Ireland political story “The Journey” also delivered a surprisingly strong New York opening, the most encouraging news of the weekend was the impressive expansion for “Beatriz at Dinner” (Roadside Attractions).

Fox Searchlight pushed Rachel Weisz melodrama “My Cousin Rachel” into national release this prime summer weekend, which boasts only one new wide studio opening. But the romantic mystery thriller failed to click with audiences.
On the other hand, Roadside Attractions kept Miguel Arteta’s Sundance hit “Beatriz at Dinner” in limited dates, where the edgy and compelling story of a mismatched dinner at a Southern California estate thrived in its first limited run. With a $30,000+ per theater average and a potential appeal beyond core art house audiences, this Salma Hayek starrer could make a significant impact in upcoming weeks.
Eleanor Coppola’s romance “Paris Can Wait” continues to lead wider releases, at a decent level for its theater break but significantly below such top 2016 crossover performers as “Love and Friendship” and “The Lobster” at this time.

“Wonder Woman” captured the weekend zeitgeist with reviews as good as any new adult-appeal specialized opener — and gobbled up potential audience. But that’s not the sole reason the specialty box office went to hell this weekend.
“Churchill” (Cohen), with the pedigree of an arthouse crossover winner, went nationally in top theaters but failed to capture more than desultory business. A trio of niche releases showed some mid-level interest in New York and Los Angeles — “The Exception”(A24), “Letters from Baghdad” (Vitagraph), and “Band Aid”(IFC) — but none looks likely to cross over beyond the big-city arthouse market.
The scariest weekend news: the total lack of response to Ken Loach’s Cannes 2016 Palme d’Or-winner “I, Daniel Blake.” While it’s been a long wait after a year-end qualifying run, it’s shocking that the well-reviewed BAFTA-winner met with near total disinterest.

How many mothers and wives must independent cinema bump off for the purpose of guiding their children and husbands toward existential catharsis? Where will the body count end, and when? Probably never; people die, and when they do, their surviving relatives will invariably tell stories about them to cope with their loss. This is especially true if telling stories is how they pay rent, though filmmakers have a habit of warping the stories they tell around themselves and not their late loved ones, a’la “Other People,” “The Go-Getter,” or “Garden State.”
Joining this number is comedian, writer, and author Demetri Martin’s “Dean,” a movie that, in other hands, told from another perspective, would feel far more routine than it does coming from Martin, as quietly dry a presence on stage as on the page and on screen.

Just when you thought you could retire the adjective “twee,” along comes “Dean,” a film that represents the worst lessons any filmmaker could learn from a steady diet of the works of Woody Allen, Wes Anderson and Zach Braff. In the first few minutes, we get a dead mom, the streets of Brooklyn, writer-director-star Demetri Martin’s moptop haircut (and matching hangdog look), and a contemporary song that sounds like a deep cut from The Kinks circa 1968. So yeah, it’s like that. And if you guessed that the lead character’s well of sadness can only be overcome with a help.

Chicago – The dry, hangdog demeanor of comedian Demetri Martin is familiar to fans who have watched his Comedy Central show, “Important Things,” experienced his notable stand up routines and read his best-selling books. It seemed a natural to leap into film, so Martin has written, directed and portrays the title character in the new release, “Dean.”
Dean (Demetri Martin) is in a life funk, due to the death of his mother the year before, and the break-up of his engagement shortly thereafter. He plunges into his work as a cartoonist and illustrator, but he can’t shake the recent losses. His father Robert (Kevin Kline) is trying to reach out, but can’t seem to get through to him, until he tells Dean that he is selling the family home. This puts the title character into a tailspin, and even an escape to Los Angeles – and meeting a free spirit...

I’ve been waiting a while to talk about this movie. Over a year after its debut at the 2016 Tribeca Film Festival, Demetri Martin’s filmmaking debut Dean is finally hitting theaters this week. Already a successful comedian and actor, Martin shows off his writing and directing skills in a big way here. Dean is an assured first time behind the camera, to say the least. After winning a prize at Tribeca last year, the flick was picked up for release by CBS Films and has sat back for over a year, biding its time. Now, the film is coming out and I’m here to remind you that it was well worth the wait. Few releases this year have been better. It’s a special work. Here’s a bit on the movie itself. As previously mentioned, Martin writes, directs, and stars in this dramedy about grief. Martin’s...

Admirable without actually being very good, Demetri Martin’s debut as a writer-director, Dean, makes a smart decision right from the outset. At its heart, this is a movie about the grieving process, which seems like inherently depressing subject matter. Martin opts instead to play it primarily as light comedy, focusing on two men who’ve suffered the same loss but aren’t conscious of how much it still affects them. The film’s poignant aspects emerge gradually, coming to the fore only toward the end; but it’s not as if they arrive out of nowhere, since the death in question is noted in early voice-over narration and comes up frequently thereafter. Dean turns out to be quite touching, in retrospect. If only it were funny, clever, or in any other way particularly inspired from moment to moment.

Best known for his unconventional brand of stand-up comedy — awkward one-liners, deadpan musical interludes, and the use of drawing pads on-stage —Demetri Martin is a strange delight on stage. But upon hearing the news that he’s written, directed and starred in his own film might startle fans at first. After all, this is a comedian, known as a key writer for “The Daily Show,” that feeds off his own awkwardness for deadpan laughs.
