- Hook asks Gold for his hand to be reattached for a first date with Emma. Henry and Mary Margaret try to help Regina when she becomes frustrated over not being able to find a cure for a frozen Marian. Back in the Fairy Tale Land that was, Rumplestiltskin uses Anna to acquire a magical box from the Sorcerer's apprentice.—ab1995
- "A Long Time Ago..." We start with a "dark one" trying to open what is in the sorcerer's box, but his apprentice makes clear that while many of those who have succumbed to darkness have tried, they will never open the box because the sorcerer has protected it with an enchantment.
In Storybrooke, we see Mr. Gold looking at the box, and holding the dagger over it. The box opens and reveals the sorcerer's purple hat. Mr. Gold looks pleased.
Emma pays a visit to the diner to see Hook and asks him out on a date. He accepts as long as he can plan the evening. She agrees. Going back to her car, Emma is surprised to see it's in the middle of a huge puddle while the rest of the street is completely dry.
Later, Hook meets Mr. Gold at his shop in search of another deal. Hook wants to talk about his hand. He asks Mr. Gold if he can reattach it. He wants to be able to use both hands if he wants to hold Emma. Mr. Gold warns Hook that there's no telling what influence his hand could have on him. Hook hands over his hook and Mr. Gold replaces it with Hook's hand, adding an ominous, "Don't say I didn't warn you."
Emma stuns her mother, father and Elsa with her dress before Hook comes to pick her up. He arrives and she notices his hand, asking if she should now call him "Captain Hand." He says Killian will do.
Back in Fairy Tale Land, Anna of Arendelle pays Rumplestiltskin a visit. Rumple tells Anna that her parents paid him a visit and offers some information in exchange for her help. She says she'll do "whatever it takes" to help her sister. He asks Anna to put a potion in the tea of who he calls a dark and scary man who "probably eats children for breakfast." We next see Anna show up at the door of the sorcerer's apprentice. He invites her in for biscuits and tea. When she gets a chance, she heads for the tea kettle but stops before pouring the potion in. She instead pours the potion into the fire.
On their date, Robin Hood's merry man Will Scarlet drunkenly stumbles by Emma and Killian's table, spilling some wine on Emma. Killian grabs him by the collar and insists Will apologize, but Emma says it's fine and Will leaves. She lets him go even after recognizing him as the thief from the ice cream shop. Killian seems surprised at how quickly he turned aggressive toward Will and stares at his hand. He tells Emma he doesn't know what got into him.
Henry tells Regina that he knows Robin Hood still loves her. She says he's too young to understand what's going on.
At the end of their date, Emma realizes she needs to find her own place. Killian asks if she'll go out with him again and they kiss, but he stops and stares at his hand for a moment, apparently concerned.
Will pays a late-night visit to the library and starts to pick the lock when Killian catches him and inches him out with his new hand. He threatens Will not to tell anyone about it.
In Fairy Tale Land, Anna is distressed when -- after lying to Rumple about having put the potion in the sorcerer's apprentice's tea -- she learns it was an antidote to the poison he was given the day before. She admits she didn't give it to him. In his crystal ball, he shows her the apprentice getting sick and turning into a mouse. Anna runs back to the apprentice's cottage, but Rumple is already there and tells her she passed her test admirably. He needs someone who has faced their inner darkness but not succumbed to it to break the enchantment on the sorcerer's box . She says she's not qualified because she never considered hurting the apprentice. She takes a sword and tells Rumple, who has threatened to lock her in his tower forever, to rip up the contract. In a tense moment, he urges her to kill him in order to escape her predicament. She considers it, but pulls away. He catches one of her tears on the dagger, saying he now has everything he needed. Anna calls him a monster for taking love, one of the most precious things in the world, and using it as a weapon. Rumple heads to the apprentice's basement and waves the dagger over the box, and the purple sorcerer's hat emerges.
In Storybrooke, Killian sneaks into Mr. Gold's and asks him to take the hand back, again threatening to tell Belle that the dagger Mr. Gold gave her is a fake. But Mr. Gold says he switched the real dagger out for the fake after Killian blackmailed him for the hand. Mr. Gold offers Killian a deal without revealing the terms. Killian, after trying to kill Mr. Gold and failing, agrees to the deal because he's worried about what he might do to someone else.
Driving through town on a perfectly sunny day, Emma hits a huge patch of ice and her car spins to a stop. She gets out and chases The Ice Queen for a moment but can't find her. Belle calls Emma and tells her to come to the library, saying they "have a situation." We see Will is passed out on the library floor under a broken window with a book clutched to his chest.
Mr. Gold meets Killian at the dock, per their deal, and Mr. Gold summons a broomstick that starts walking down the dock. Mr. Gold says it's going to lead him to an old friend.
In Fairy Tale Land, Anna demands to know what her parents wanted from Rumple. He says they asked her for a way to take away Elsa's powers because they feared her. He says they couldn't get what they were looking for because the magic was too powerful. Now, with the sorcerer's hat, he'll be "unstoppable." Suddenly, the mouse jumps down off the rafters and bites Rumple's hand. He lets go of the dagger, which Anna picks up and holds in front of her, telling Rumple to stand back. He does, admitting that he needs the hat to free himself from the control of the dagger and keep his power. She says, "Please give me the box," and he hands it over. He warns her that she can't hold the dagger forever and she doesn't want to be on the other end of it when he gets it back. She then commands that he send her and the box home to Arendelle, not hurt her or her sister, and turn the mouse back into a man. She says she's ready, he waves his hand and she disappears, leaving the dagger behind. Rumple is angry.
Back in Storybrooke, the broomstick leads Mr. Gold and Killian to the apprentice's house. Inside, Killian holds the apprentice down in a chair while Mr. Gold opens the box with the dagger. The apprentice says Mr. Gold may have the hat but he won't collect enough power to do with it what he wants. Mr. Gold tilts the hat toward the apprentice, telling him he won't be around to see whether Mr. Gold gets all the power he seeks, and the apprentice is sucked into the hat.
Anna returns home to Arendelle and gives Kristoff a big kiss. Anna tells him her parents got on the ship because they were afraid of Elsa. She doesn't know what she's going to tell her sister.
Back in Storybrooke, Mr. Gold takes back Killian's hand and replaces it with the hook. Killian says their deal is done because he knows the dagger Mr. Gold gave Belle is a fake (he saw Mr. Gold use the real one), but Mr. Gold says he now has leverage on Killian -- the security tape from the apprentice's house, showing Killian grabbing the old man and forcing him into his seat. Mr. Gold reveals that he lied about Killian's hand being cursed, saying that having the hand only allowed Killian permission to unleash his darker, pirate, side. Killian says he is willing to break Belle's heart, but Mr. Gold threatens him by saying Killian will owe him as long as he lives if he hurts Belle. So, Mr. Gold says, they'll "still in business together" and are "going to have some fun."
Emma confronts Will in his jail cell, asking whether Alice in Wonderland means anything to him -- it's the book he was holding in the library. He says it doesn't. She asks him who gave him the shiner on his face and Killian walks in. He stops himself from saying who did it. Emma says she's keeping him in jail for crashing her date. Killian explains that his hook is back because the dark one's magic wasn't all he'd hoped.
David tells Emma that The Snow Queen's real name, Sarah Fisher, isn't in any town census, which means she didn't get there because of a curse. Emma wonders what The Ice Queen wants with her.
Henry comes back to Regina and says they're going to find the author of the Fairy Tale book because of his grandpa, Mr. Gold. He says Mr. Gold must have figured out how to change his story, and Henry says he's going to go undercover to find out how he did it. We next see Henry at Mr. Gold's shop asking for some work. Mr. Gold is surprised at first, then agrees to let Henry work a few hours a week as long as he stays out of the back room and doesn't touch anything.
"You can be my apprentice," Mr. Gold says. Henry sets out sweeping the shop floor.
