6 Found Footage Movies to Watch on YouTube After ‘Milk & Serial’
Image
I’ve always found it curious how the Found Footage genre’s greatest weakness is also its greatest strength, with the same realistic formatting that allows for deeply immersive thrills also being responsible for the massive sea of low-effort cash-grabs that gives Pov filmmaking a bad name. That’s why it’s so hard for Found Footage flicks to stand out these days, as it can be hard for viewers to justify paying for what will likely be just another Paranormal Activity rip-off.

However, there are some clever filmmakers who have managed to circumvent this issue by making their movies available online for free, trusting that the quality of their work will eventually lead to more lucrative endeavors. And with Curry Barker’s surprisingly effective Milk & Serial going viral on YouTube, we’ve decided to make a list celebrating six other Found Footage flicks that you can check out on YouTube for free!

Five Found Footage Horror Movies to Stream This Week
Image
When done well, found footage horror makes for one of the most immersive and unnerving viewing experiences. The inherent naturalism tends to make the horror feel more plausible and real. Found footage horror doesn’t need a huge budget or recognizable names among the cast to induce chills, either, and the lo-fi visuals only further add to the scares.

This week’s streaming picks are dedicated to found footage horror movies that excel with the format, delivering unsettling atmosphere and scares while making the most of their immersive, lo-fi aesthetics. Here’s where you can stream them this week.

Screambox Hidden Gems – 5 Horror Movies You Should Stream Tonight
Image
The Bloody Disgusting-powered Screambox is home to a variety of unique horror content, from originals and exclusives to cult classics and documentaries. With such a rapidly-growing library, there are many hidden gems waiting to be discovered.

Here are five recommendations you can stream on Screambox right now.

The Barn

Before The Barn Part II streams exclusively on Screambox on May 26, catch up on the 2016 original. The Barn stands out among the glut of ’80s slasher throwbacks because it’s not satirical or a send-up; the unapologetic love letter approaches the well-trodden material with a refreshing earnestness. Capturing not only the style but also the spirit of his influences, writer-director Justin M. Seaman taps directly into horror fans’ nostalgia while introducing an imaginative mythology with ample heart in a charming package.

At its core, the film is a coming of age tale about a teenager who doesn’t want to grow...

Thunderbolts Hints Can Explain Why Its MCU Phase 5's Avengers Replacement
Image
Thunderbolts is being set up as Phase 5’s Avengers replacement thanks to recent hints. The MCU had been subtly teasing the team’s arrival throughout the first part of Phase 4 with the introduction of Valentina Allegra de Fontaine and her interest in both Yelena Belova and U.S. Agent. Yet, many were surprised when it was announced that the team is getting its own film, and even more so when the main cast was revealed at Sdcc. Yelena and U.S. Agent will be joined by Bucky Barnes, Red Guardian, Taskmaster, and Ghost. That’s an interesting group to consider, especially since it doesn’t contain any of the classic members from the comics.

Rumors and theories about the film continuously develop as more of Phase 4 progressed, and they will continue to do so until Thunderbolts' release on July 26th, 2024. There’s a chance the team comic readers are familiar...

Marvel's New 'Savage Groot' Is the Caveman Tree Fans Deserve
Image
Guardians of the Galaxy hero Groot is heading for the dinosaur-infested Savage Land in gorgeous new art, and he has the perfect allies to make it out alive - Wolverine and Rogue. In a new series of covers from Marvel's up-and-coming Stormbreaker artists, Groot takes on different forms according to his various Marvel allies, from a grim and gritty Ghost Rider look to an adorable encounter with Iron Man. However, one of these covers truly allows Groot to let loose.

In a gorgeous cover for X-Men #21 by Nic Klein (shared by Marvel Entertainment), Groot grows to giant size, unleashing a mane of twisting branches. Groot often changes his look and physical dimensions in response to various events, from his original towering stature to his sulky 'punk' look, where he sharpened his body to be covered in spikes. However, in the Savage Land, attitude counts for nothing - what's needed is...

Antrum: The Deadliest Film Ever Made and Surviving a Demonic Horror Title: A Film Review
*full disclosure: a screener of this film was provided by producer Eric Thirteen. Directors: David Amito, Michael Laicini. Writers: David Amito. Cast: Rowan Smyth, Nicole Tompkins. Antrum: The Deadliest Film Ever Made or the simpler Antrum is a title from directors David Amito (Stress Postion) and Michael Laicini. Amito has starred in a number of projects, while Laicini has four scripts under his belt. Together, these two filmmakers have created a supposed cursed film. However, Antrum is more of a faux documentary. A few interviews are given in the style of Savageland (2015). But, this film fan was also reminded of the found footage title The Blair Witch Project (1999), in that the material for the film is found after-the-fact. The film's gimmick and hook is that, by watching this title, it will kill you. This viewer is still alive, but Antrum comes across more as a film school project, than anything from below (Hell!

Savageland Tears Through a Whole Town: A Film Review
*full disclosure: an online screener of this film was provided by Terror Films. This reviewer has worked on publicity for this film. Tagline: "Fear has no Borders." Director/writer: Phil Guidry, Simon Herbert and David Whelan. Cast: Monica Davis, Edward L. Green, Patrick Pedraza and VaLynn Rain. As the classic idiom states: "a photograph is worth a thousand words." In the case of Savageland, there are at least thirty-six photographs and a whole lot of victims. Very professionally shot, the film covers a fictional massacre, at Sangre de Cristo. The film is told in a pseudo-documentary style and Savageland comes across as a mystery, that you might find on the A & E Network. Much of the film is told through photographs, taken by the sole survivor Francisco Salazar (Noe Montes). They piece together a night of horror! The film comes across as believable, outside of a few lines and Salazar's conviction.

Savageland is Host to a Massacre: Official Trailer
Savageland is a film from a trio of directors. Phil Guidry, Simon Herbert and David Whelan have developed this horror feature. And now, the film is set to see United States' video platforms on February 24th. In the film, there is only one survivor of a terrible massacre. It is believed that he is a serial killer. But, as more evidence emerges, it becomes apparent that something even more malevolent is at play. More of the film's story can be seen in the film's first trailer, found here! For more on the story, events take place at Sangre de Cristo. This small town is the focal point of a multiple murder investigation. Fifty-seven people have been killed or have disappeared and there is only one man left alive. His story is unbelievable, at first. Then, with more video footage, it becomes obvious that there is more than one killer. Savageland...

Horror-on-Sea 2017: Seaside Horror Warms up Winter
This year's festival was held over two weekends in Southend, in the Park Inn by Radisson Palace Hotel. Friday 20 January's standout movie was 'Savageland' (directors: Phil Guidry, Simon Herbert and David Whelan, 2015, Us). A prisoner is convicted to die by lethal injection after he is accused of going on a killing spree in his one-horse town. As he's the town loner, the survivors are keen to see him executed. Cinema verite interviews of the local sheriff and other town worthies add uncomfortable realism, as talking heads say there may be no direct motive for the murders but there's also a lot of local hate...

A Shroud of Mystery Surrounds Savageland: Early Release Details
Terror Films has acquired another indie, horror title for distribution. Titled Savageland, this film was written and directed by: Phil Guidry, Simon Herbert and David Whelan. Savageland involves a small town on the Arizona-Mexico border, which is wiped out by a vicious attack. One lone survivor has photos from that chilling night. This feature is slated for a 2017 release, across North America. A preview of the film's launch is hosted here. There is a bit of mystique surrounding Savageland. Only a few stills have been released for this title. Two of those photos can be found here. They show strange figures moving in dark grey or white backgrounds as if captured on a film roll negative. As well, early reviews have been positive, with Michael Klug, of HorrorFreak News, saying of the film's unnerving nature "[it] digs at something even deeper within." This unsettling picture will see a wide release through Video-on-demand and other digital platforms,...
