- After a stray cat adopts Zachary, he meets Marilee and realizes the single life is not as fulfilling as he thought it was.
- Fireman Zachary finds a stray cat that seems to take a liking to him. When he finds out that the cat's owner is dead he takes care of him until he can find him a permanent home. When Zachary is out to buy cat food he meets Marilee, a veterinary student, who gives him advice on what food to get. Their paths crosses on several occasions while Marilee first loses her extra job at a pet store (at the hands of Zachary's girlfriend) and then her apartment (when the landlord finds she houses a cat). Zachary who feels guilty over her losing her job offers Marylee to stay in a house that he's currently restoring to flip. While living there it's not only their cats who finds each other.—Johan Hammar
- In small town Jamestown, Zachary Stone is a firefighter who flips houses on the side. Zach resists the notion of romantic love in his now divorced parents, who were always arguing with each other when he was a child, not providing him a good model of that romantic love. That's why he is dating model Blair, the latest in a string of narcissistic and in Blair's case privileged women who are probably unaware that Zach does not consider them his "girlfriend" in equating the term to commitment. Marilee White's life is totally consumed with her studies in veterinary college, and her job at a pet store to pay for her studies, that focus which has led to the decision not to date until she graduates. Her love of animals is demonstrated by she owning a cat named Queenie, who places in jeopardy her tenancy in her "no pets allowed" building. Zach and Marilee's paths cross after a cat named Ambrose "adopts" an initially reluctant Zach, who originally intended to find him a good home upon learning Ambrose's previous owner having just passed until Ambrose became a comforting fixture in his life, unlike Blair. There is an immediate attraction to Zach on Marilee's side, she who would probably forgo her no dating policy if the opportunity with Zach arose. Zach, on the other hand, will have to open his eyes further to realize that he is truly falling for Marilee in that committed sense, his commitment now to Ambrose which may show him that first step to a new perspective in life.—Huggo
- Fireman Zachary "Zach' is a shy dater, although the Jamestown FD's obvious benefit calendar poster-boy, and handy enough to buy houses, fix them himself and sell with a profit. His parents' divorce decapitated his romantic aspirations, no marriage. Nor pets, until stray orange cat Ambrose most convincingly invites itself, soon into his warm bed and big heart. He dates but dislikes narcissistic model Blair, and apologizes in her place when she gets her tamed father to fire Marilee White, who needs the clerk job to pay her veterinary studies, from his pet shop for 'rudely' telling the truth. Finding her thrown out of her apartment for being loyal to her no pets-policy-banned cat Queenie, Zach lets them move in with him 'for now'. Finding her a model housemate, almost as handy, and the cats a perfect mix, each soon wants but neither quite dares propose a long-term arrangement. A jealous misunderstanding makes her move out, but Ambrose works a magical solution.—KGF Vissers
