While speculation that a Swedish House Mafia reunion will take place next year continues to rage on, fans can at least take solace knowing that ex-shm member Steve Angello will be delivering fresh material in 2017. During his last residency show of the year for BBC 1, the producer announced that he’ll be delivering a new album next year.
Angello brought his last residency show of 2017 to an end by announcing that he’d be taking some time off from Radio 1 next year. He took the occasion to announce that an album is on the way, bringing the two hour mix to an end with his own song “Stay” featuring Saints of Valory, which is set to feature on the forthcoming record.
I’m going to be taking a break from Radio 1 next, as I’ve got a pretty busy 2017 planned. This is probably a good time to announce that there’s a new album coming.

Steve Angello has uploaded the official music video for “Prisoner,” a track from the first chapter of his recent album, Wild Youth. The former member of progressive house supergroup Swedish House Mafia had given us the impression that visual elements would play a significant role in the effort, and the two videos that he’s released so far certainly support that notion.
As with the videos for “The Ocean,” and “Tiger,” the one for “Prisoner” follows what appears to be a pretty well-developed story. This one, however, is set in a modern metropolis – and the scenarios it depicts keep with the criminal theme of the title.
Both videos seem to be segments of larger story arcs (like the one portrayed in the music videos for songs from Disclosure’s sophomore album, Caracal), which could be the audiovisual delivery method which Steve Angello alluded to. Either way, it’s safe to...

Steve Angello made it known that he planned to present some pretty grand audiovisual concepts with his first post-Swedish House Mafia album, Wild Youth. After revealing a visceral music video for “The Ocean” last month, the Size Records founder has now premiered the official music video for “Tiger,” which occurs to us as being quite a bit more conceptually challenging.
The video for “Tiger” opens with a Swedish phrase which ominously translates to “the journey will be easier without the weight of the past.” Serene shots tell the fantastic story of a mythical order being ravaged by cloaked specters, and like the video for “The Ocean,” the cinematographers didn’t shy away from the portrayal of graphic violence.
The closing scenes of the video for Steve Angello‘s “Tiger” is the most cryptic from a storytelling perspective, which makes us wonder if additional videos will stitch together the missing plot points.

2016 is already shaping up to be quite the interesting year for electronic music, and by the looks of things, Steve Angello is getting a head start on playing a vital role in the movement’s transition. His first full-length album since the Swedish House Mafia split has arrived in the form of Wild Youth – and while we were thoroughly impressed enough with what he delivered for Chapter 1 of the effort, Chapter 2 ties it together with an additional layer of conceptual depth.
Angello was somewhat cryptic when he discussed with us his reasons for splitting Wild Youth into two chapters – nor did he provide any insight as to why the tracklist of Chapter 2 didn’t follow that of Chapter 1 chronologically on the full album. By what can be gleaned from what remarks he made, the decision had more to do with the visual content tied to the album than anything else.

“The Ocean” will make you feel something, trust us.
Steve Angello has been exceedingly honest about his intentions with Wild Youth; he wants to make music with emotion. It seems he’s not stopping at just music, either, as the Swedish producer has just uploaded an emotive music video for the 80’s inspired “The Ocean.” While it can be interpreted any number of ways, one thing is for certain: this will make you feel something.
Centering around the life of an Albanian Mma fighter, the music video chronicles loss, sacrifice and commitment, finishing with a rather melancholy ending. The entire thing is more than a tad cryptic, and we’re left guessing as to what exactly happened with this fighter and his family.
The uncertainty of certain plot points gives rise to innumerable storylines, and it’s in this nebulous understanding of what’s going on that the audience can pluck their own meaning.

There aren’t too many names in dance music as iconic as Steve Angello is. The legendary Swedish DJ/producer has been around for over a decade now, birthing some of the most timeless tracks in the genre and making up one third of supergroup Swedish House Mafia for five extraordinarily successful years before their eventual split.
Now, the artist is in the process of redefining his solo career with a solo album set to drop on January 22nd. With half of the tracks already having been released, we’ve had a good taste of what Angello’s been up to over the past couple of years, and we’re definitely happy with the results. What’s been released off of Wild Youth so far has been nothing short of fantastic, and we’re giddy with anticipation to hear what the producer has in store for us with the rest of the album.

Now that taking a stab at eclectic musical styles is apparently the thing for former Swedish House Mafia members to do, it looks like Axwell decided to get onboard – for better or for worse. Shortly after Steve Angello’s Wild Youth: Chapter 1 proved that the Size Records founder had more to offer than big room festival fodder, Axwell has returned fire with “Waiting For So Long (Gloria).”
Unfortunately, though, what he’s lobbed into the air with this single has fallen tragically short of its target. “Waiting For So Long” tries to be too many things at once. It starts with future bass-like atmospheric effects before a Madeon-reminiscent melody sets in. Then, the horn section starts, and that’s when it loses you; it’s hard to even pay attention to the vocals with how distracting the rest of the arrangement becomes.
It’s alright, Axwell, not everybody can be a game changer.

There’s a very simple reason why Steve Angello‘s Wild Youth will be remembered as one of the strongest albums of 2015: It doesn’t sound like anything else on the market right now.
Being that it’s his first full-length album since the 2013 disbanding of his supergroup, Swedish House Mafia, he could have gone the route of his former collaborators and released the hard-kicks-and-hoover-synths progressive house that floods festival main stages worldwide. Given the scene’s current obsession with all things underground, he could also have surrendered himself to whatever whatever deep or tech variety of hipster house is currently being lauded as the second coming of Christ. Instead, Wild Youth Chapter 1 sounds like an evolution of the Edm sound Angello played no small role in shaping that neither betrays nor seeks refuge in the creative legacy he’s already left behind.

Steve Angello, one-third of the now disbanded Swedish House Mafia, but a dance music powerhouse in his own right, spoke to MTV recently about his past musical endeavors, admitting that most of his life has been spent “creating a vibe on the dancefloor.” Now that we’re nearing the release of Angello’s new LP, Wild Youth, set for late January 2016, the Swedish producer is opening up about everything that went into this album.
“I started three and a half years ago. I started it because I wanted to write something that had a meaning and I wanted to tell a story. I think a lot of music today is not really storytelling. A lot of people are just working with songwriters and producers and they get delivered something based upon a request from a record label and some input from the artist. So for me it’s really important to start from scratch.

Steve Angello may have become a name synonymous with the shallow end of the dance music spectrum during his years as the helmsman of progressive house supergroup Swedish House Mafia, but his recent releases indicate a desire to showcase his depth as an artist. An interview conducted by Fuse TV during the “Children Of The Wild” producer’s recent trip to New Orleans for Voodoo Fest indicates that the shift in focus has been deliberate.
Angello’s upcoming album, Wild Youth, is slated for release on November 20th. Regarding his priorities as an artist, the producer said:
“First and foremost, it’s about music. I’ve done this for such a long time and for me, dance music means so much than that short hype that it’s had the last couple years. You know, I’ve done this for almost 20 years now, so for me it’s about expressing...

Several weeks ago, Steve Angello dropped his new song Wasted Love, which is the lead single from his upcoming album, Wild Youth. It wasn’t exactly what we were used to seeing from the former Swedish House Mafia member, but it was still an exciting track and definitely had us eager to hear more of his solo work.
While there’s still a bit of a wait until his album releases (it should arrive in Q4 2014), we now have a bit more to tide us over, as Angello has premiered the official music video for Wasted Love. It’s a well-directed and appropriately cinematic visual companion that should go over well with fans of both the DJ and his new song.
Check it out below and let us know if you’re digging Steve Angello‘s new sound.
