  • Sgt. Abraham Ford: I am a large man, and I have had many beers to make up for that.
  • [Rick talks to Daryl and Carol out in the woods about what they need to do next, to get the guns]
  • Rick Grimes: We need to do it sooner or later. Right now they're not watching us. Not worrying about meetings like this. We may need the guns, we may not.
  • Carol Peletier: We will whatever way it goes.
  • Rick Grimes: They're the luckiest damn people I ever met. And they just keep getting luckier.
  • Daryl Dixon: How's that?
  • Rick Grimes: We're here now.
  • [Abraham and Rosita arrive to Deanna's party]
  • Sgt. Abraham Ford: I don't know about this.
  • Rosita Espinosa: [Rosita looks around the room] They have beer.
  • Sgt. Abraham Ford: I'm gonna try.
  • [Abraham walks to the beer, Rosita shakes her head with a smile]
  • [Aaron tries to make a connection with Daryl out in the woods on trying to open up]
  • Aaron: You ride horses?
  • Daryl Dixon: I ride bikes.
  • Aaron: I take it you don't mean 10-speeds.
  • Aaron: [Daryl doesn't give a response] I know you're feeling like an outsider. It's not your fault, you know. Eric and I, we're still looked at as outsiders in a lot of ways. We've heard our fair share of well-meaning, but hilariously offensive things from some otherwise really nice men and women. People are people. The more afraid they get, the more stupid they get. Fear shrinks the brain. They're scared of you and me for different reasons. They're less scared of me because they know me. It's less and less every day. So, let them get to know you. You should go to Deanna's party tonight.
  • Daryl Dixon: I got nothing to prove. I met a lot of bad people out here, doing a lot of bad shit. They weren't afraid of nothing.
  • Aaron: Yeah, they were.
  • [Rick and Michonne talk about Deanna handing them these police outfits to wear around the community]
  • Rick Grimes: I don't know if this is some kind of play, handing authority to strangers.
  • Michonne: The authority to break up fistfights.
  • Rick Grimes: If it was just that, she should've given one of these to Daryl.
  • Michonne: I don't know if it's for us or for them. Or maybe Deanna's trying to get rid of us and them. You put these jackets on me and you, have the people see it. If that's the play that'd be smart. And she seems smart.
  • Rick Grimes: Smart for then or smart for now?
  • Michonne: This is now.
  • [Jessie's son Sam catches Carol in the armory room]
  • Sam: [Sam catches Carol in the act of stuffing guns into a bag] What are you doing?
  • Carol Peletier: Sam, what are you doing here?
  • Sam: I followed you. I was hoping you were going to make more cookies, but then you came here.
  • Carol Peletier: Well, I could make more. I could make a whole batch just for you. Would you like that?
  • Sam: Yes. I mean, yes, please.
  • Carol Peletier: Okay. But you've got to promise me you can keep it secret that I came here.
  • Sam: But I'd have to tell my mom. I mean, I tell my mom everything.
  • Carol Peletier: [Carol lowers her voice stepping toward Sam] You can never tell anybody. Especially your mom. Because if you do... one morning you'll wake up... and you won't be in your bed.
  • Sam: Where will I be?
  • Carol Peletier: [Carol quietly starts to whisper] You'll be outside the walls far, far away tied to a tree. And you'll scream and scream because you'll be so afraid. No one will come to help because no one will hear you. Well, something will hear you. The monsters will come. The ones out there. And you won't be able to run away when they come for you. And they will tear you apart and eat you up all while you're still alive. All while you can still feel it. And then afterwards, no one will ever know what happened to you. Or you can promise not to ever tell anyone what you saw here and then nothing will happen. And you will get cookies. Lots of cookies.
  • Carol Peletier: [Carol whispers with a smile on her face] I know what I think you should do.
  • [Sam stays frozen with his eyes wide open]
  • [Sasha begins to feel overwhelmed by all of the surrounding, happy laughter coming from Deanna's party]
  • Woman: Sasha, honey, what's your favorite meal? I'd love to cook it for you some time. I do it for all the new arrivals.
  • Sasha Williams: I don't know.
  • Woman: Of course you do. Everyone has favorites. So what's yours? Whatever you want. I'm just worried that I'll end up cooking something you hate, you know?
  • Sasha Williams: You're worried?
  • Sasha Williams: [Sasha raises her voice to the woman] That's what you worry about!
  • [Sasha walks out of the room]
  • [Michonne stands outside of Deanna's house party when Abraham joins her]
  • Sgt. Abraham Ford: [Michonne holds and looks at a minature toy sword in her hand] You packing different still nowadays?
  • Michonne: [Michonne chuckles] Yeah.
  • Sgt. Abraham Ford: Live by it, you die by it... and eat potato puffs by it. Pray to God you don't have to use it again. Pray to God you don't get use to not using it again. It's on your back... even when it's off your back. Hmm.
  • Michonne: [Michonne begins to stare at Abraham babbling] How much have you had to drink?
  • Sgt. Abraham Ford: [the two laugh] I am a large man. And I have had many beers to make up for that.
  • Michonne: Uh-huh.
  • Sgt. Abraham Ford: And you know what? By that brave act, I have - I have come to realize things have worked out pretty damn well for me. How about you? What have you done?
  • Michonne: I put on this dress.
  • Sgt. Abraham Ford: Try again.
  • [Daryl catches Aaron following him in the woods]
  • Daryl Dixon: Come out! Now!
  • Aaron: [Aaron steps out with his hands up] You can tell the difference between walkers and humans by sound. Can you tell the difference between a good guy and a bad guy? Rick doesn't seem to be an expert at that.
  • Daryl Dixon: [Aaron puts his hands down] It ain't much of a difference no more.
  • Aaron: Is that how you feel about your people?
  • Daryl Dixon: Why are you following me?
  • Aaron: I didn't know I was. I came out to hunt rabbits. I know why you're out here. Mind if I join you?
  • Daryl Dixon: [Daryl begins walking] Keep up. And keep quiet.
  • [Aaron begins to follow his lead]
  • [Deanna talks to Rick, Michonne, and Maggie about the civilization she see's growing within the community, starting with the constables]
  • Deanna Monroe: You protect and serve. You patrol, walk the wall, watch out for the kids. If there's a conflict, you solve it. And people will listen to you.
  • Michonne: Because we're wearing windbreakers?
  • Deanna Monroe: Because they believe in this. Because I'm telling them to. A police officer used to live here. So we had these jackets and I wanted to make it official. So it's official. There's going to be a government here one day. That's why I want Maggie working with me. There's going to be a police force. That's why I want you two to start it. I see a vibrant community here with industry, commerce, civilization. Real lives. It might be horses and mills, but - What?
  • Deanna Monroe: [Deanna see's Rick look off to the distance] Does that sound like pie in the sky?
  • Maggie Greene: [Deanna looks to Maggie in the eyes] No.
  • Michonne: [Deanna looks to Michonne in the eyes] No.
  • Rick Grimes: [Deanna looks to Rick in the eyes] No.
  • [Rick and his group arrive to Deanna's party with Rick holding baby Judith in his arm]
  • Deanna Monroe: [Deanna is happy to see Rick and his group] Oh, my. Welcome.
  • Carol Peletier: [Carol smiles] Hi.
  • Deanna Monroe: Oh, it's so good to see you. Hi, Carl. Thank you for coming.
  • Deanna Monroe: [Deanna focuses on Judith] You know, I didn't get a chance to interview this one. I envy her.
  • Rick Grimes: Why?
  • Deanna Monroe: She'll get to see what this place will become.
  • Deanna Monroe: [Deanna whispers] Come. Come on in.
  • [Rick meets Deanna's husband Reg for the first time]
  • Reg: [Reg walks up to Rick with his head up] You're Rick.
  • Deanna Monroe: Rick, this is my husband, Reg.
  • Reg: You're a pretty remarkable guy.
  • Rick Grimes: How's that?
  • Reg: Well, I watched the tapes. All of them. The things those people said about you. The things you did for them.
  • Rick Grimes: Didn't you build that wall out there?
  • Reg: [Reg chuckles] Yeah, I did, with help. A lot of it. And it's a damned incredible achievement. But it's a wall.
  • Reg: [Deanna laughs] 14 lives in this world? I think you have me beat.
  • Deanna Monroe: Well, we're standing behind that wall right now, dear. So let's call it a tie.
  • Reg: Well, I'm glad you're here. Now, take a glass.
  • Rick Grimes: I'm good.
  • Reg: [Reg whispers] You don't have to be.
  • Reg: [Rick smiles holding out his glass as Reg fills it up] There ya go. Right. Welcome.
  • Rick Grimes: Thank you.
  • [Noah, Glenn, and Maggie stand in there own corner at Deanna's party]
  • Maggie Greene: Hey.
  • Noah: Hi.
  • Glenn Rhee: Hey, are you okay?
  • Noah: Yeah. Yeah. Just isn't really my thing. I think I'm gonna bail out.
  • Glenn Rhee: No, no. You're not bailing. We're in this together, man.
  • Maggie Greene: You're here with us now. You're here with family.
  • Glenn Rhee: [Glenn whispers with his arm around Noah] Come on.
  • [Aaron finds Daryl walking outside his house]
  • Aaron: Daryl. Hey.
  • Daryl Dixon: Thought you were going to that party over there.
  • Aaron: Oh, I was never going to go 'cause of Eric's ankle, thank God.
  • Daryl Dixon: Why the hell did you tell me to go, then?
  • Aaron: I said try. You did. It's a thought that counts thing.
  • Daryl Dixon: All right.
  • Aaron: Hey, come in. Have some dinner.
  • Aaron: [Daryl pauses] Come on, man. It's some pretty serious spaghetti.
  • [Aaron talks to Daryl in his garage about being another recruiter with him]
  • Aaron: [Aaron walks Daryl into his garage of spare bike parts] When I got the place, there was that frame and some parts and equipment. Whoever lived here built them.
  • Daryl Dixon: It's a lot of parts for one bike.
  • Aaron: Whenever I came across any parts out there, I brought them back. I didn't know what I'd need. I always thought I'd learn how to do it but I get the feeling you already know what to do with it. And the thing is, you're going to need a bike.
  • Daryl Dixon: Why?
  • Aaron: I told Deanna not to give you a job because I think I have one for you. I'd like you to be Alexandria's other recruiter. I don't want Eric risking his life anymore.
  • Daryl Dixon: You want me risking mine, right?
  • Aaron: Yeah, because you know what you're doing. You're good out there, but you don't belong out there. You need to be out there sometimes risking your life. So do I. But the main reason why I want you to help me recruit is because you do know the difference between a good person and a bad person.
  • Daryl Dixon: [Daryl pauses looking up at Aaron] I got nothing else to do. Thanks.
  • Aaron: Yeah.
  • Daryl Dixon: [Daryl calmly jokes] I'll get you some rabbits.
  • Aaron: [Aaron laughs] Great.
  • [Deanna talks to Sasha about her troubling attitude]
  • Deanna Monroe: I'm trying to figure out what it is. What it is exactly.
  • Sasha Williams: This...
  • Sasha Williams: [Sasha looks to the houses within the community] It isn't real.
  • Deanna Monroe: Sasha, you've been through a lot and I accept that, but what you just said... that's bullshit.
  • [Deanna hands Sasha a box of ammo rounds and closes her outside the community gate for tower duty]
  • [Rick, Carol, and Daryl talk about needing the guns or not]
  • Carol Peletier: [Carol holds out the pistols to Rick and Daryl] Take your pick.
  • Daryl Dixon: Look, I've been thinking. Do we really need these? I mean, things go bad, yeah, sure. We do what we gotta do, but it's like you said. We don't need these for that.
  • Carol Peletier: Right now we don't.
  • Daryl Dixon: You wanted me to try, right? I'm good.
  • [Rick hesitates on taking a pistol but then grabs one from Carol]
  • [last lines]
  • Jessie Anderson: [Rick see's Jessie and her husband walking down the street] Hey, Rick.
  • [Jessie holds up the back of her hand showing the matching stamp her and Rick still have as Rick holds up his hand]
  • Jessie Anderson: [Rick walks over to the community wall, slowly holding his hand up to the wall with a walker snarling on the other side]
  • [first lines]
  • Olivia: [Olivia opens up the armory room for Sasha to get what she needs] No, no, it's cool. I'm usually up. I used to open for a coffee shop every day for seven years. Your brain, is wired to things you don't need anymore. I still like carrying around my cell phone, too. One of these days it's gonna ring and freak my ass out. Hey, um, if you happen to bag a boar out there, can I have a leg?
  • Olivia: [Sasha looks strangely up at Olivia] To make a prosciutto. I used to cure meats in my basement even before all this. I made some kick-ass pickles, too.
  • Sasha Williams: Sure, Olivia.
  • [the scene cuts to Sasha taking out a bunch of family photos, photos from the houses in the community in which she uses for target practice with her rifle]
  • Sasha Williams: [Sasha fires away feeling a kind of post-traumatic stress disorder, Sasha then sits back on a tree stump whispering] Come and get me.
  • [homemaker-looking Carol talks to the other girls, when she see's Rick to talk to about needing somebody to get in the armory for weapons]
  • Erin: Mashed lima beans, cocoa powder, and a little sweetener. I would have eaten it all before this, I swear. It's protein, and it fills you up.
  • Carol Peletier: [Carol gives a big smile] Sounds delicious.
  • Carol Peletier: [Carol see's Rick walking down the street] I'll be back. I've got to go beg Rick for some help tonight.
  • Erin: You need anything else, you hit me, girl.
  • Carol Peletier: [Carol smiles at the girls] Okay, thanks.
  • Carol Peletier: [Carol walks to catch up with Rick] You've heard about the party?
  • Rick Grimes: Everyone's gonna be there.
  • Carol Peletier: That's right.
  • Rick Grimes: So tonight, then.
  • Carol Peletier: Should be able to slip out.
  • Rick Grimes: The armory is right next to Deanna's. I'll back you up.
  • Carol Peletier: People might wonder where the new constable is or Carl's dad.
  • Rick Grimes: Okay. We can't use Daryl. They watch every move he makes.
  • Carol Peletier: It's fine. You know what's great about this place? I get to be invisible again.
  • [Both Rick and Carol smile together]
  • [Daryl attempts to hook the loose horse, Buttons, around the neck with a line of rope]
  • Daryl Dixon: [Daryl quietly walks up to the horse] I ain't gonna hurt ya. All right? Come on, boy. Yeah. Just keep on eating. Yeah.
  • Daryl Dixon: [Daryl clicks his tongue] Good boy. Yeah, you used to be somebody's, huh? Now you're just yours.
  • [a branch snaps in the distance as a group of walkers come at him and Aaron]
  • [Jessie talks to Rick about knowing what it feels like to lose something]
  • Jessie Anderson: Having fun?
  • Rick Grimes: Yes, I am.
  • Jessie Anderson: That's kind of a stupid question, right?
  • Rick Grimes: No.
  • Jessie Anderson: Still, this place has a pretty amazing view.
  • Rick Grimes: Yeah.
  • Jessie Anderson: Yeah, take a look.
  • Jessie Anderson: [Rick looks around the room seeing his group mingling with the community] Ordinary life like before. Well, not like before.
  • Rick Grimes: No.
  • Jessie Anderson: Yeah, no. I mean - I mean, it's better. Not out there, in here. You know, everone's been through it somehow. Everyone. And a lot of things disappeared. But a lot of bullshit went with it. They're all from totally different backgrounds, different places. They never would have even met. And now they're part of each other's lives. They are each other's lives. I'm just saying, we all lost things, but we got something back. It isn't enough, but it's something.
  • Rick Grimes: [Rick see's Carl smiling with the other kids] Yeah, yeah, it's a pretty good view.
  • Sam: [Sam comes running up] Mom, there's no more cookies.
  • Jessie Anderson: Oh.
  • Rick Grimes: Well, I happen to know the cookie maker. She's a good friend of mine. And I might be able to see about her making a whole batch just for you.
  • Sam: Mom, he doesn't have a stamp.
  • Jessie Anderson: Oh.
  • Sam: Do you want a stamp?
  • Rick Grimes: Sure.
  • Jessie Anderson: [Sam gives Rick a stamp of a letter A on the top of his hand] See? Now you're officially one of us.
  • [Rick and Jessie smile at each other]
  • [Rick finally agrees with Jessie about the community being a good place]
  • Jessie Anderson: [Jessie walks up to Rick holding Judith] It's been a long time since I held one of these.
  • Rick Grimes: She and Carl... they're why I'm still here. And I get what you've been telling me.
  • Jessie Anderson: What's that?
  • Rick Grimes: Here isn't that bad.
  • Jessie Anderson: [Judith fusses in Jessie's arm] Do you want to take her?
  • Rick Grimes: Yeah.
  • [Rick reaches for Judith from Jessie's arm when Rick kisses Jessie quietly on the cheek, she slowly begins to smile before stepping away]
