No Story, no logic

I stopped watching Bollywood movies but after watching 'Badlapur', I thought they aren't that bad and so went to watch Mr. X because of its interesting plot which made me realize why I stopped watching Bollywood movies (again).

The film starts abruptly giving a crash course for the character's life, whole character development in first 15 min with the song, after that the characters are dropped and the actors are allowed to do whatever the hell they want.

The movie insults the intellect of the audience by offering bullshit logical explanation to how the protagonist gains his powers and what exactly is his power set. Somehow, a chemical that he ingests not only makes him invisible but also his clothes!! He becomes visible irrespective of the light source's direction. It is more than apparent that they have bent the logic to their convenience like giving the power of invisibility to a piece of clothing which had nothing to do with the chemical ingested or the chemical at the warehouse, just to keep the character clothed whenever he decides to make an appearance.

The heroine is given a complicated and borderline artificial personality, also a not so subtle attempt to portray her as an antagonist which FAILS and instead comes out really foolish.

The only thing that made this movie different was the new antagonist, he really had a presence but fellow actors sabotaged his talent and made him look like a fool too. Anyways the reason I rate this 4 instead of 2 is because of the antagonist.

I know getting an original idea is tough but doesn't mean that the producers (and/or directors) get to pick out a movie out of the shelf and remake it into a monstrosity.

To the directors: Please invest some time and find a set of eyes with a brain to tag along with you when you waste money making movies which kill your reputation and the viewer's time.

Moral of the story for the viewers: Check (and believe) the IMDb score before you decide to go to a movie!

Lifeless

The idea of the story had enough potential to make a interesting movie. But, the script, screenplay, acting are all below par, making for a stale fare. Nothing is redeeming about this movie. You can probably watch it with the comfort of the remote. Even a bad plot can be redeemed to some extent with good acting, but here both EmraanHashmi and Amrtya are below par. Amrtya is totally wooden and misfit in a already hopelessly written role. Hashmi appears and disappears as the invisible guy, but his presence or lack of it doesn't make any difference. Of course, he does get couple of trademark smooching scenes. One can't help recollect the excellent MR.India movie, a movie based on an invisible lead, to contrast how poor this one fares, even with technology of 30 years forward!

Good Idea, Gone Wrong!

Vikram Bhatt's 'Mr. X' rides on an interesting premise, that had tremendous potential to become a solid Sci-Fi Thriller, but what is eventually served here, is bland.

'Mr. X' Synopsis: After gaining the power of invisibility; a man becomes a vigilante, in order to take revenge on those who have wronged him.

'Mr. X' doesn't make use of its blockbuster storyline. The Screenplay is problematic & unconvincing. The Screenplay has a few good moments initially, but just drops later-on. You don't root or feel for the Protagonist in his quest for revenge.

Vikram Bhatt's Direction is below average. Cinematography is fair. Editing is zigzag. Music is the sole saving grace. Special Effects are ordinary.

Performance-Wise: Emraan Hashmi is strictly okay, delivering a very ordinary performance. Amyra Dastur looks gorgeous, but that's about it! Arunoday Singh is better. He holds on his own as the villain. Funnyman Tanmay Bhat is unimpressive.

On the whole, 'Mr. X' doesn't work.

Bravo Bhatts....I wanna kick your Butts

Don't jump out of your skin to find a reptilian like guy hitting on a pretty girl and wins her heart instead of experiencing a brief history of pain from the back of her hand. Yes! We are talking about Emraan Hashmi !!!Save your face-palm act for later as we have numerous such examples in bollywood and what's more disappointing is that they never give up. Such movies extend the credibility gap by portraying those girls as willfully offering to indulge in carnal acts with such atrocities. Majority would question that if it were some kind of legal Euthanasia? Even you may want to slit your own throat before watching such ugly duckling get lucky again, but believe me that is his USP (Even you might have secretly wished to switch roles with him).

Storyline: Raghu(Emraan Hashmi) a short stature cop from Mumbai police was assigned to protect the CM. He proved himself worthy of it by successfully terminating a terrorist who had hijacked a roadways bus, while leaving the tough job of diffusing the bomb to the girl. Thereafter, Raghu fell into the trap of his ambitious senior(Arunoday Singh) who sets him up to kill the CM. Hah! child's play! Raghu does the job in a jiffy. Now to ensure a clean job the senior(Arunoday Singh) had to wipe out the loose ends by killing E.H. restoring the law and order back. (You must have seen this part in -Phir bhi Dil hai Hindustani)

What I like about Mahesh Bhatt is how easily he slaps on the face of any logic one could ever come across. His new anti-radiation drug could make anybody disappear by its mere ingestion. Moreover such scientific breakthrough drug was being tested in a roadside company with practically no security at all. Yeah, burn those obsolete schoolbooks and join Bhatt classes on IIN instead; his daughter had already topped IIM's in "two states" and I am sure most of us have seen that flick too. The experimental drug was carelessly tossed in a beverage refrigerator of that company and was in easy access to any Tom, Dick or Harry. The Doctor easily transported it out of the company and was pretty confident while delivering it to Raghu, maybe she also wanted him to give up the ghost.

One can assess her level of confidence when she explained that the drug was not tested even on lab mice. But much to her dismay the lecher disappeared immediately after its consumption as a side effect to that drug. F***ing nemesis !!! He could only be seen under UV radiation now..Wow ! How ? Bravo Bhatts ...I wanna kick you butts . But on the other hand this discovery solves the riddle of invisible audiences who are occupying most of the seats for this Movie. Verdict: (Vanished) /10

The Illogical Hollow-Man

Nothing great can be expected from the Bhatts these days. Still I gave Mr.X a try considering Emraan Hashmi's acting and it being promoted as a science fiction. Forget science-fiction this movie defies your logic. The screenplay feels like it has been written for people with single digit IQ. Raghu (Emraan Hashmi) works in anti- terrorism department with his girlfriend Seeya (Amyra Dastur). He is framed for murder of CM and then presumed to be killed by the bad guys who set it up (who actually work for the anti-terrorist dept. itself!?!). But the hero lives and helped by some unknown doctor giving him some drug. This induces some reaction making him invisible. Bravo! The hero is set, time to beat the bad guys! There is absolutely zero science here and all we get is fill of ho-hum. The action is worse so is the crappy CGI! The dialogues are pathetic and even Emraan Hashmi couldn't save this ride. Not at all recommended.

Even Emraan Hashmi Couldn't Save It. ♦ 0%

I usually abstain myself from rating a film 0%, but earlier this year Roy (2015) and then Ek Paheli Leela (2015) forced me to go ahead with naught. Vikram Bhatt's latest experiment also falls in the same category.

With a feeble opening sequence, the film begins to confirms its audience's nightmare by constructing a make-believe story on a clumsy and baseless plot. Raghu (Hashmi) is an officer with the anti- terrorist squad who is cheated by his own men and eventually murdered. Only, to find that he's not really dead, but invisible; and helping him in becoming undead is, no prize for guessing, none other than the Almighty. Now, as absurd as it sounds, the writers flounder with the most basic factor involved in a sci-fi setup like this - they fail to distinguish between science and God. And we end up wondering - was it God that made him invisible or science? And if you choose to watch this (which I am advocating you not to), that should be the one thing you must try to find out, for there is not much excitement anywhere else.

There is dub-step music for revelers if they feel like getting up in between the movie and dance. The dialogs are pure terrible with some examples that goes like "...nahi, tum kanoon mat todo..." as if justice is a ceramic plate, or "...jab science ko kuch pata nahi hota, to samaj lo wo Bhagwan hai..." While Emraan Hashmi is the showman, he clearly does what he was told and I am not much of a fan of his script- choosing abilities. His co-actor Amyra Dastur should have packed her bags the day she was cast opposite Prateik Babbar in her debut film. She CANNOT act. Period.

In addition, the CGI makes Jaani Dushman (2002) look like a masterpiece. There is no single source of entertainment in this film that one could possibly extract. With scenes copied from Badshah (1999) and The Italian Job (2003), Mr. X should be shoveled right into where most films of the Bhatt clan go: the overfilled dustbin.

BOTTOM LINE: I cannot be more critical than this and if you still decide to watch it, then let Mr. X save you. 0/10 - fail.

Can be watched with a typical Indian family? YES

Low quality and lazy

Looks like they filmed the whole thing in a closet. Denouncing science and blaming god seems odd. Special effects are 15 years behind the times. The lighting makes it look like a soap opera. As does the acting and storyline. The sets are tiny and cheap. Did I mention how the lighting makes it look like a soap opera? Because the movie doesn't let you forget. The songs and dance don't go with the story at all and not in a fun way but in a way that feels lazy. I guess that's how the whole movie feels, lazy. The only part that was very impressive was a shot or 2 during the motorcycle race where I wondered how they filmed it because it looked as though someone was really riding a bike against traffic. Then the person disappeared but the bike still looked real and not digital. Other than that this movie is very easily forgotten completely.

Nothing special in the Effects and run of the mill "Badla" story

We went to see the movie as we had liked the effects in the teaser, because Emraan Hashmi movies are usually good and because it was in 3d. Thought the whole thing would be fun to watch.

Sadly the effects were a copy of hollow man and thus did not appeal. There was no creativity. The guy would switch his invisibility on and off as if there was a defect in his invisibility and no control. The effect of carrying his girl while being invisible was the only new good effect but was already a part of the teaser.

The story was run of the mill "badla" one and not expected from Vikram Bhatt. Effects do not make a movie but there should be a good story.

The songs were irritating and the singer sounds like he has woken up from his sleep and started to sing. The lady's voice was auto tuned. So nothing much was achieved in the music department. The song "you can call me X" was like giving an option to the audience.

The worse thing was that we saw this movie in "Starcity Matunga". We were made to pay 15 bucks for a pair of 3d glasses that we can keep. Unfortunately the glasses were so cheap that there was no 3d effect in some. only half my family was able to see 3d. Even after exchanging the glasses 3 or 4 times we could not see 3d. The staff in the theater were kind enough to help us exchange the glasses but the quality of the glasses had not been tested.

Emraan Hashmi is advised to use his good discretionary powers to only act in good movies and not trust the people who sell him special effects. Also he could select a good boy image, There was nothing much in performances of the other actors. The reason why the invisibility happen was stupid and not convincing. Maybe the twist with which the villain is exposed was the only bit of intelligence in the movie.

How could they even enjoy writing & making such a childish take on the exciting theme?

If one is looking for an example how a completely nonsensical execution can ruin an exciting plot considering the viewers all brainless creatures sitting in the theater, then MR. X would be the perfect film to be quoted even ahead of the recent dud ROY. But in case the statement doesn't deliver the message clearly then supporting it further, MR. X is just another lazily made, outrageously silly project coming from the Bhatt camp, who once used to make CINEMA but are now only interested in doing BUSINESS with lackluster, poor films being regularly offered as products just like soaps or detergents sold in the general supermarket.

For friends who still are willing to read the review, it's a typical Bhatt camp formula movie beginning with a clichéd sequence making no impression whatsoever in its first 40 minutes despite the love songs and infamous 'Hashmi kisses' as always. It has a weird casting choice wherein the young, well-built Arunoday Singh is presented as a middle aged, grey haired, hamming chief of police force who suddenly turns into the baddie in the very next scene. And then despite having all deliberately added bedroom and pool sequences there is zero chemistry to be found between the sleep walking Emraan and the beautiful Amyra, who looked much better in her first film ISSAK. At times beginning of few songs in the background turn out to be surprisingly funny instead of emotional. Plus when the game of invisibility begins then the explanations given, graphics used and the way Emraan goes on and off at his own will without any kind of engaging logic given, simply makes you go ROFL in the new-age net language, meaning 'Rolling on floor laughing"

Inspired from many entertaining films made on the similar concepts in the past (both in English and Hindi), it would be in fact insulting naming a few in this review to be straight. But ignoring any such 'creative crime' committed, the makers even dare to end their film with an open climax hinting towards a sequel raising a valid question that, 'How dumb they actually assume their viewers to be?"

With no justification of why the film was made in 3D, MR. X neither has any of those good trademark love songs in a Bhatt camp film nor it has some enjoyable graphics that ought to be the backbone of a project revolving around 'The Invisible Man'. Completing the circle, repeating both the title & the subject used by Nanabhai Bhatt (in his 1957) directed film MR. X featuring Ashok Kumar in the lead role, the present version falls way short of even that black and white film made more than half a century back in terms of entertainment.

In short, the experience of watching MR. X is exactly like watching a POGO channel comedy serial made for the kids that even the kids would surely reject as non-entertaining. Interestingly the film also features the now famous comedian Tanmay Bhat (of AIB fame) and it would be great to see how he presents a spoof on his own film in one of the next episodes of AIB.

However ending on a serious note (as mentioned earlier in one of my reviews), films like MR.X are actually 'feeder movies', that these multiplexes desperately need to display every week as 'new releases' in order to keep them running. In reality, these are the projects made in between 'the major' ones to keep the business going, otherwise how will the multiplexes earn if there would be only one or two movies releasing in one month? In fact that will totally crush their 'weekend business strategy' highly dependent upon new releases alone, coming every week irrespective of their content or quality.

Hence it doesn't matter whether they are enjoying or not the process of writing and making these films, the production houses are bound to keep supplying such kind of hurriedly made business products to the multiplexes in the name of cinema. And the plan will keep on working till 'the consumer or the viewer' wakes up from his sleep in the coming future.

So the slogan is "Jaago Grahak Jaago" and stop playing in the hands of this silly 'weekend business model' of the entertainment world at the earliest.

An abominable attempt to create new age Mr. India

A new offering from Bhatt camp,Mr. X runs on the same formula as previous films of this camp.

An invisible hero who is a vigilante,An actress who does everything to capture the hero because she loves her duty more than anything, some lip-locks,A few romantic tracks and a decrepit and weak storyline, all sums up to make a film which is below the moderate mark. The main problem lies in the writing which is terrible. The plot is stale and pathetic. The screenplay is very slow and exasperating. The sluggish narration is another big drawback. The movie is full of unnecessary and foolish scenes which are too aggravating and makes you to yawn. The basic premise is good but is presented in such a absurd and ridiculous manner that the film seems like a preposterous mishmash of Mr.India and various vigilante films. Some scenes of the movie seems bizarre and comical. The situations created in the movie are ludicrous and risible. The ending is open and a gate for sequel has been left open(Oh god......plz save us).

Emraan hashmi is a good actor and this time again he plays her role nicely. He has played such type of roles many times and he fits nicely in his role.Although in some scenes he becomes dismayed and uneasy.Amyra is terribly bad and vexatious. He is extremely weak in acting.Arunodaya is decent.

Vikram bhatt's direction is neither good nor bad.Dialogues of the movie are plain and sometimes afflicting too.The film needs a serious editing and can be trimmed down by almost 30 minutes.Music is repetitive and bad.Only title track is audible.Visuals are good.

Mr. X is an attempt to create a Desi sci- fi thriller. The attempt is genuine, noble and praiseworthy but its outcome is not good enough. The main problem of the film is its paper- thin plot.If you are a fan of Emraan or Bhatt camp then you might find it good.Otherwise wait for its DVD to come out and save your hard earned bucks. 4.2 out of 10 is too much.

Better Invisible

I missed initial 2 minutes of Mr.X, and thank god I did! I was expecting this actually to be a okay movie, but it is one of the most horrible experience at the cinemas. Poorly written, terribly acted crafted, mediocre music, wasted 3D Tech, and above all "ready-made dialogues" makes it even bad. I hardly have any sympathy for its makers. Please stop make movies like Mr.X. To be honest I prefer Ram Gopal Verma's Gayab over Mr.X. Horribly acted by Amyra Dastur. She definitely does not deserve to act, please forgive us from your torture. CGI, is yet again poor but I think it was okay. Poor on technical level and okay for implementation. Emraan Hashmi is just okay nothing especial!

Imran was good but the story and the role of girl was very awful.

Movie started with very illogical concept of invisibility, and than and just in the first murder of invisible man, he caught by the girl when she smells him. His miracle power doesn't helped him in only 1 scene. What nonsense there was.

Invisible man can be visible in sun light and all the scenes were day light, no suspense.

Role of the girl was very very over and her acting was just scrap.

The most awful things were, there was no logic of bike scene. When he escaped from the jeep, he can easily hide in shadow, than he get a bike and started running.

Here you discuss all the scenes and all were disgusting and very impractical.

Ovelall imran was good but the story of movie, role of girl and her acting was awful.

The audience went invisible here!!

Mr X review :

He is an ATS cop livin' in with his junior colleague. The lovers crack down on terrorists and make out during their spare time. Life's pretty wham bam (pun unintended) for the couple until Mr. Cop becomes victim of a conspiracy, gets burnt in a chemical factory, emerges as an invisible entity and rechristens himself Mr. X. Directed by Vikram Bhatt for his family banner (Vishesh Films) and featuring their in- house protege Emraan Hashmi as You-know-who, the film is a latest interpretation of the invisible man.

If the attempt was one upmanship on Shekhar Kapur's 1987 classic 'Mr India' or an Indianised 'Hollow man' (2001), regret to inform that X comes nowhere close to them. At most, it gets better than RGVs unbearable 'Gaayab' (2005) which had an invisible Tusshar Kapoor doing unmentionables to Antara Mali.

Of the cast, Emraan Hashmi plays the lead with a feel that he can do such roles in his sleep now. Newcomer Amyra Dastur is easy on the eyes but falls flat on the acting front. Still, she fares better than Arunoday Singh who makes a laughing stock of his ATS chief character. He deserves applause for providing unintentional LOL moments in serious situations something even Tanmay Bhat (of 'All India Bakchod' defame), the supposed comedian of the piece isn't able to pull off.

The dialogues are stale. Lyrics contrived. And the music unsatisfactory. The conspiracy plot is borrowed from SRK starrer 'Baadshah' (1998), transformation to invisibility has a 'Hollow man' hangover and the vigilante hero resembles 'Mr. India'. Situations are specially created for item numbers and smooch sessions.

The only positive aspects are the VFX and 3D effects worked within a low budget, something Vikram Bhatt has mastered over the years ('Haunted', 2011 and 'Raaz 3D') and he doesn't disappoint on this front!

One thing certain, Emraan Hashmi needs to shed his repetitive acts film after film and re-invent himself at the earliest. He's clearly not enjoying himself in such mediocre enterprises now and the disinterest shows on screen. As a film reviewer, I may be sounding harsh and judgemental, but trust me sir, the audience can be more cruel!!

Regards, Sumeet Nadkarni.

Answers to stupid judgment

I am satisfied and happy with Mr.X because after a long time I have seen such a movie....In India there are less Sci-fiction movie...and I am damn sure Mr.X can defeat movies of other countries as well as other sci-fiction Indian movies

I am sad why the people are unhappy with Mr.X why don't they see the hard work done by the actors as well as the crew members.

Instead, of passing stupid comments why don't anyone see the hard work done by them....And I am sorry to say this but its truth that Mr.X is counted as worst movie because the actor is Emraan Hashmi...this is the reason why people don't except it and if in place of Emraan it was Salmaan or SRK or any other famous Actor people would have ranked Mr.X as the top whether their is no story actually the problem is people don't accept new Actors or Actress they want their famous actor.......before judging the film you people just have a look that after working many hours they have completed the movie..
