Carter and Amelia have their first date at Theatre Cedar Rapids, where the stage version of 'The Summerland Project' originated.
In one moment of film, a technician (Katy Slaven) stands near Amelia (Angela Billman) while Max (Eddie Jemison) stands near another technician (Isaac Helgens). Slaven and Helgens both played Amelia and Max in the first produced version of the play.
Crew members had to remove their shoes before stepping on the all-white floor of the laboratory set. Additionally, the crew was instructed to wear dark colors to hide from the set's many reflective surfaces.
Amelia 2.0 (2017) has over 900 visual effects shots in the entire film. By comparison, The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring (2001) only has 540 vfx shots.
The City of Cedar Rapids declared October 7th, 2014 as "Summerland Project Day." The mayor and city council presented director Adam Orton with an official proclamation, along with producers Alex Levine and Enrico Natale, and executive producer Mary Meisterling.
