So-so hero anime
Tweekums23 June 2014
Warning: Spoilers
This series is rather short; just five seven minute episode; which of course means there won't be time for such things as character development or even much of a story. Protagonist Momoko is a high school girl and local idol; she is also a bit of a ditz! One day after school a strange man approaches her and gives her a strange glowing ball that disappears into her. The next day when her school is attacked by aliens she thinks she should transform into a hero and promptly does so and becomes 'Wonder Momo'! She quickly defeats them but while doing so is photographs by a boy who wants to be a press photographer; luckily he doesn't reveal her identity. As the series progresses we learn that her fellow idol is also a hero but unfortunately she has no time for Momoko as a hero or as an idol, we also learn that Momoko wasn't the first Wonder Momo; her mother was before her and she comes out of retirement to help her daughter. As things progress the bad guys become more threatening till the three heroes and the aliens who gave them their powers must confront many enemies… then it ends leaving us wondering what happens next.

I had read that this was a pretty terrible series but thought I'd watch it for a laugh as it is so short; it isn't terrible but isn't great either… perhaps having low expectations helped. The story needed more time to be properly fleshed out and to explain what was going on. The ending was disappointing as well; it felt as if the final episode was missing; we see the characters about to confront the bad guys then it just ends! On the plus side I did find myself laughing more than I expected; usually due to Momoko's ditziness. The animation is okay if a little cheap looking; I'm sure one fight scene was reused. Overall I'd say this is okay if you have half an hour to kill and aren't looking for anything deep.

These comments are based on watching the series in Japanese with English subtitles.
