The Lion King is a franchise that has a lot of deep lore about the history of the Pride Lands, something that has been expanded in supplementary material like novels, video games, and TV shows. However, it seems that Mufasa: The Lion King is throwing all that lore out to weave a fresh story, which may include a plot point that recontextualizes the entirety of The Lion King.

The teaser for the film came with a lot of clues as to what the story of the film is going to be, but it seems to retcon quite a bit of established lore of Disney’s The Lion King. To begin with, it indicates that Mufasa will not be of royal blood in this iteration of The Lion King, as spoken by what a young Rafiki narrated in the trailer.

It is a truth universally acknowledged that a movie that makes more than $1.6 billion at the box office is probably going to get another franchise entry greenlit very, very quickly. Such is the case with the 2019 "live-action" remake of "The Lion King," which didn't leave much of a pop culture imprint, but certainly had an impact on Disney's quarterly earnings report. Thus, this year will see the release of the prequel movie "Mufasa: The Lion King," which just dropped its first trailer during "Good Morning America."
As the title suggests, "Mufasa" is the story of Simba's father becoming king of the lions, despite being born "without a drop of nobility in his blood." The film was directed by Barry Jenkins, who joked at CinemaCon that this "eight-quadrant tentpole" is quite different from the types of films he's known for, but said that its story was "very personal" to him. The new film, which hits theaters Dec. 20, will tell the backstory of Simba’s father, Mufasa, an orphan who grew up to be a wise, powerful and compassionate ruler.
The official logline is as follows: “Mufasa: The Lion King enlists Rafiki to relay the legend of Mufasa to young lion cub Kiara, daughter of Simba and Nala, with Timon and Pumbaa lending their signature schtick.

“The Lion King,” a Disney Media Franchise, commemorated its 26th anniversary this past June. It is a genuine archetypal that can captivate audiences of all ages. The first Lion King film in the series was produced in 1994.
According to Environment Weekly, there were more than 600 animators involved in the production of “The Lion King” including animators, technicians, and other crucial figures. In fact, every moment was arduously explored, reorganized, and refined again which cost a lot of money, time, and a lot of headaches. And here’s the result – the great movie “The Lion King.”
The key to its success comes from its skilfully constructed characters who frequently walk and act like their real-life equivalents. The real-life lions were brought to the studio for the animators to study.

The television academy first formally acknowledged the art of small screen music composition by honoring the “Dragnet” score in 1955, and they have similarly awarded other series every year since 1968. Since 2019, only continuing scripted shows have been allowed to compete for the Best Music for Series Emmy, while others are now either relegated to the Best Music for Limited Series or Best Music for Documentary Series categories.
The 2022 slate of Best Music for Series nominees includes comedies “The Flight Attendant” (HBO Max), “Only Murders in the Building” (Hulu) and “Schmigadoon!” (Apple TV+) and dramas “Loki” (Disney+), “Severance” (Apple TV+) and “Succession” (HBO). Each nominated composer, most of whom have been recognized before, currently has a shot at achieving their first victory in this category. The original was already one of the most beloved animated movies ever, so it was no surprise that Disney’s The Lion King remake went down like gangbusters when it arrived in theaters over the summer. And it’s also no surprise that we’re hearing the studio is considering developing a sequel to a movie that earned them over $1.6 billion at the global box office.
We Got This Covered has been informed by our sources – the same ones who told us an Aladdin sequel was happening, which we now know to be true – that Disney wants to do a Lion King follow-up. According to what we’ve heard, though, director Jon Favreau isn’t so keen on the idea, which may mean that a new director will be hired to helm it. We’ve also been told that it’s not a sure thing just yet, but they’re...

Co-directed by Roger Allers and Rob Minkoff, Disney’s 1994 animated movie The Lion King won Academy Awards for original score (Hans Zimmer) and the original song "Can You Feel the Love Tonight" (by Elton John & Tim Rice), as well as the Golden Globe Award for Best Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy. In 1997, the stage production made its Broadway debut, winning six Tony Awards; 22 years later, it still remains one of Broadway’s biggest hits, recently marking its 9,000th show. The beloved Disney classic also inspired two direct-to-video follow-ups – The Lion King II: Simba's Pride (1998), and The Lion King 1½ (2004) – and two television series, Timon and Pumbaa and The Lion Guard. Now, after the critical and financial success of 2016's The Jungle Book remake, director Jon Favreau is utilizing the same photorealistic computer animation technology to re-tell the story of The Lion King for contemporary audiences in an immersive way. In case you haven't heard, Disney's The Lion King is the latest classic animated film to get the contemporary treatment. Like The Jungle Book before it, the "live action" remake of the movie will feature photo-realistic CGI to tell the story of Simba, Nala, Mufasa, Scar, and the other denizens of the pridelands. The Lion King feels like it's been around forever - or at least long enough for its big death to permanently traumatize a generation of children - but exactly how long has it been since Simba first roared onto our screens?
The animated version of The Lion King was released on June 24, 1994. Its 2019 remake will essentially be a 25th anniversary celebration, scheduled for a Summer release 25 years after the original. With the voice talents of Matthew Broderick, Jeremy Irons, James Earl Jones, and more, the film was one of the most sophisticated Disney movies made to date.

Disney's Big Hero 6 was such a fun movie!
