Exclusive: Cori Abraham, who led crime and documentary across NBCUniversal, is joining SpinCo.

Abraham will oversee original unscripted content at the newly spun-off business, which will encompass cable networks including E!, Syfy and USA Network.

Her move comes amid a number of changes across NBCUniversal, particularly on the unscripted side. Deadline revealed yesterday that the company made a number of layoffs with SVPs including Stephanie Steele and Jenny Ramirez exiting the company.

These cuts came as part of a wider set of changes over the last few months that saw the creation of SpinCo and changes to its management structure involving Pearlena Igbokwe and Frances Berwick.

The creation of SpinCo, which may end up being called Spark Media, per Dylan Byers, led to a handful of cuts as well as a number of NBCU executives moving over, including Abraham, on an interim basis.

Exclusive: NBCUniversal recently went through two major changes: the spinoff of a new standalone company that will house cable networks such as E!, Syfy, Oxygen and USA Network and a restructure that saw new roles for top executives including Pearlena Igbokwe and Frances Berwick.

Deadline understands that the Comcast-owned company is now starting a process of layoffs tied to these moves.

We’re hearing that a few dozen employees across NBCUniversal’s television and streaming business are being let go. Insiders tell Deadline that these cuts are more “surgical” compared to previous “sweeping” cuts. This covers NBC, cable networks, Peacock as well as on the studio side, although is largely focused on marketing and communications as well as some more junior folk in certain areas of programming.

It was always expected that a number of NBCUniversal executives who worked across multiple cable networks and streaming service Peacock, would depart with SpinCo looming.

From red carpets to resident aliens and driving ranges, NBCUniversal’s SpinCo has given its first indication what its programming strategy might look like with the hire of Val Boreland as President of Entertainment.

Boreland will oversee programming for cable networks including USA Network, Oxygen, E!, Syfy and Golf Channel as the Comcast-owned company spins off these assets into its own entity.

Boreland’s background – she is currently EVP and Head of Content Acquisitions, TV & Streaming for NBCUniversal – points to a mix of third-party acquisitions alongside original series.

She has overseen acquiring content for NBC, the cable networks and Peacock and was credited with the latter’s savvy acquisition of the streaming rights to hit Paramount drama series Yellowstone as well as its deal for the John Wick prequel The Continental.

But she does also have original programming experience, as NBCUniversal was quick to point out in its announcement Thursday.

“I’ve tried it. I thought it was amazing,” Terry shared with Page Six. “I didn’t have that much weight to lose.”

“But I wanted to try it because so many of my patients were on it and I wanted to see what it was like when you’re not diabetic and you only have 10-15 pounds to lose,” Terry continued.

Terry then said that losing the weight wasn’t worth the “low-grade nausea.”

“I thought, ‘You know what, I kind of want to get my appetite back. The holidays are coming, I want to enjoy myself,’” Terry said of his reason to quit Ozempic.

MGM Alternative, a division of Amazon MGM Studios, announced a pact with the Global Esports Federation to create a range of content built around the Gef’s Global Esports Games, esports pro athletes and “the gaming lifestyle.” MGM Alternative’s productions include such reality shows as “The Voice,” “Shark Tank” and “Survivor.”

The Singapore-based Gef, founded in December 2019, says it “promotes the credibility, legitimacy and prestige of esports globally.” The organization and MGM Alternative will work together to develop new linear and streaming content, as well as live events within Gef’s esports conventions and events.

Plastic surgeon Terry Dubrow, who co-hosts the E! reality series Botched, has opened up about suffering a ministroke and how his wife, Real Housewives of Orange County star Heather Dubrow, saved his life. Speaking to ETOnline, Terry recalled the moment the ministroke happened and how he initially refused to go to the hospital despite Heather’s insistence. “So we were at the Ivy, my favorite restaurant, the place actually that Heather and I met, and where we have all of our wedding anniversaries, and we’re there with my son [Nicholas],” he explained, noting how he started to have trouble speaking during the dinner. Heather began to panic and told Nicholas to call 911, but Terry was adamant that he was fine. “I said, ‘Do not call 911!’ And within, I don’t know, a minute, it was already over. And so we got into an argument,” he recalled. “I said, ‘You are embarrassing me; stop this!
